It arrived pretty close to on time (they gave me a link to an app and told me the delivery time), pizza was still steaming and dessert was still warm. I ordered a hand tossed cheese pizza with ham. It was very good, not overcooked, not undercooked and definitely not burned which in the past 3-4 years more than half of my delivered pizzas showed up with burnt crust or cheese. The cinnamon sticks were very good, but I don't see how one could mess them up, cook the dough, cover with cinnamon sugar and pour on icing. The price was pretty much as expected, so many delivery places have a service charge, a delivery charge, and ask for a tip. Honestly I can't figure out how the money is divided up, eating in I tip the server and they give the bus team something, the bar tender, and the kitchen staff do they get anything? In delivery the only people are the driver, the person that boxes the order, and the kitchen staff. So if the service charge stays in house am I paying $1.50 to put the pizza in a box? The delivery fee is stand alone so who gets the tip? I asked this of one of the many pizza apps and they never did flat out tell me how the money works. Anyway, the pizza was timely, hot, good sauce and meat, not cut into squares (haha an StL thing) and the dessert was very good. Again I had the hand tossed, not the thin crust. In a world where somehow one pizza is now upwards of $45 if delivered many places, I appreciate I can get a pizza delivered with slices to spare for under $30 - and it's a good pizza too! 2. Pick your delivery time. And they hold themselves to it as well. I have selected a delivery window on multiple occasions and they are literally ringing my bell at that exact moment. Bravo! 3. Fresh - no cold pizzas; when that pizza hits your doorstep it is piping hot out of the oven. Is it the best artisan sourdough blah blah crust ever? No - its fine, better than chain pizza for sure; and I think they are a little heavy handed on the toppings. Also I wish they put the peps on top of the cheese (personal preference). But I will return time and time again to give my $$ to a local business doing a great job for a reasonable price. p.s. Placed an order online, payed $20 for the pizza, ~$3 delivery fee, like $2 and some change for taxes, and left a 10% tip. About 10 minutes later, I receive a call, and it's the owner! He had an insulted attitude and was incredulous that I would "only tip 10%", in his words. He said he couldn't send out a driver for that low of a tip, because that wouldn't be fair to them, and he would pass the order to DoorDash instead. I understand 10% is not a great tip, but how am I supposed to give them free money to hope that I get good service? (Which I obviously didn't) Why am I paying a delivery fee if you rely on tips to make my order worth your time? I live literally 1.5 miles away too, like that's not too far, I feel? I kind of get it, but to call me, act offended, and be slightly rude about something that is ultimately their problem? Like come on. To boot, the pizza that arrived was wrong!! There were a total of 10 slices and it was filling! Surprisingly, they said that it would be ready in 10 minutes, which was fast for a Friday night! The toppings were great and filled! The chocolate chip cookie at the counter is also worth tacking on. Worth flagging: you can get full pies or by the slice. That's a real asset if you don't want to be locked into committing to a whole pizza, or if you want to try two styles without ordering two pies. The vibe is the most interesting thing about the place. Pizza Head presents as punk: murals, checkered tile, a VHS-TV combo in the corner, 70s, 80s, and 90s punk rock blasting. But it's pop-punk pizza. The Blink-182 of vegan pizzerias. The aesthetic is Warped Tour; the operation is a welcoming neighborhood shop with compost signage. The most counter-cultural thing about Pizza Head is that the menu is entirely vegetarian/vegan, which is also the thing they're best at. That's not a knock. Running a vegan pizza place long enough to become an institution is its own kind of stubborn. And the pizza is likable enough that you can bring a group of mixed eaters and expect everyone to leave happy, which anyone who's fed a group with dietary restrictions knows is hard to pull off. The truth is this pizza would succeed under any theme. Strip the murals, swap the punk rock for smooth jazz, rename it Pizza Foot, and the slices still land. The Warped Tour dressing is fun, but it's incidental. Go out of your way for the pizza. It's not my favorite pizza in town, and my rubric for a 5 is whether I'd go back the same day, which I wouldn't here. But four stars is still a real recommendation: a reliable, friendly, group-proof slice that earns its reputation. What would move it up: one slice I'd cross town for. A weekly special, a sleeper combination, something that rewards the regulars and gives the rest of us a reason to come back the same day.
