Across the street, I noticed J. Alexander's, where about 15 people were walking out smiling, and the parking lot was still fairly full for 8:45 PM. That was enough to convince me to give it a try. I walked in and was greeted immediately by the host, seated right away in a booth, and within 30 seconds, my waiter came over to ask what I would like to drink. The service was attentive and welcoming from the moment I arrived. I ordered the crab cake, which was what I had originally planned to get at Bonefish Grill, and I have to say it was one of the best crab cakes I've ever eaten. It came with a choice of coleslaw and fries, or I could substitute an amazing tomato salad. The tomato salad was simple, elegant, and delicious. I placed my order at 8:51 PM, and by 9:15 PM, my food arrived fresh, hot, and unbelievably delicious. If you're thinking about dinner, avoid Bonefish Grill and Red Lobster and make your way to J. Alexander's instead. You won't regret it. Everyone was friendly, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was phenomenal. After the disappointing experience I had at Bonefish Grill, J. Tuna slopped on the plate with a few lettuce boat wraps. My husband ordered the NY strip - he said it was 7/10, for sure overcooked. He ordered a Medium and it was closer to medium well if not well done. However, he did say the Not Your Ordinary Mac n Cheese was terrific. Nearly every table was covered in stains and looked like it hadn't been wiped down since lunchtime. It made the entire restaurant feel unsanitary and uninviting. As for the food, it was what I'd normally expect from CAVA, so no major complaints there. However, the fountain drinks were so watered down that I couldn't distinguish one flavor from another. I'm visiting Nashville on vacation, and this location left a terrible impression. I would absolutely not recommend this CAVA to anyone, and I will never return to this location.
