I've been coming to Mellow Mushroom since I was a kid, and it's always been one of my favorite spots in Franklin. The food has consistently been good, and I've always loved the unique atmosphere and pizza combinations you can't really get anywhere else. That being said, the experience has definitely changed over the years. While the location is technically in a great area of Franklin, the parking situation has become an absolute nightmare as the city continues to grow. It's honestly getting harder and harder to enjoy going there because of the traffic and lack of parking nearby. I also feel like the customer service has gone downhill recently. I used to have much friendlier experiences there, but the last few times I've visited, the staff seemed less welcoming and the overall atmosphere just felt off compared to what it used to be. I still enjoy Mellow Mushroom and will always have nostalgia for it, but I definitely think there are areas that could improve to bring back the experience people used to love. read more

I always look forward to eating at Mellow Mushroom. Their pizzas are unique and tastes like no other pizza ive had. Their crust has a maple (I think) crust that makes it a little sweet and chewy. A couple of my favorites are Cosmic Karma and Holy Shitake. Previously they had a rib eye pizza with caramelized onions and peppers which was amazing. I do hope they bring this back at some point. It was a fun routine to always come to Mellow Mushroom after the Franklin Art Crawl. Sadly the last couple of times we went to the art crawl (due to no longer serving wine) that fun populated vibe of the art crawl has gone away. There were so few people last time at the art walk it felt abandoned so we left early and enjoyed the rest of the night eating delicious pizza at Mellow Mushroom. I recommend Mellow Mushroom to anyone that wants the best pizza in the area. read more

SUCH A BUMMER - I read all the reviews before coming so I wasn't so taken aback at how bad it could be, but I didn't expect it to be as bad as it was. SERVICE - our waiter was great! He was just rolling with the punches poor guy! However we did have a large party in the bus in the side section. WORST - one of us ordered a beer, and it took forever. I mean, forever. People were getting their drinks, then their appetizers, then a couple of our meals, all the while the pizzas took extra long and her beer kept NOT ARRIVING. Finally they said they were out of the beer and to choose another one. Thankfully they comped it because I think she finally got her replacement choice about 15 mins before we paid and left. FOOD - Unfortunately the pizzas that literally took probably 40 mins to get were not all the way cooked through. Since we ordered thin crust ours was better than our friends that was thicker and barely cooked. Such a huge bummer. My husband really likes this place but he said he won't be coming back. Very unfortunate. Please just make plans for a long wait. Longer than you want for sure. You want to eat at 7:30pm, show up and order at 6:00pm-jokes aside. I enjoyed a recent visit for dinner here while enjoying Downtown Franklin. They don't take reservations, but was pleased to be seated right away once entering. We decided to try one of the specialty pizza's vs the traditional and both ordered a side salad. The food was great and will try another specialty pizza in the future as well. This is a big place and could accommodate all 14 of us at lunchtime on a busy afternoon. Our drink orders got placed right away. Our orders were taken soon after drinks were served. The salads were served quickly. The pizzas followed right behind. However the sandwiches and burgers took a very long time to be served. In fact there was a mixup and some of us were only served half sandwiches! Definitely the most disappointing part of our visit. The decor inside the restaurant was pretty cute. It was a little on the noisy side so conversations had to be a little louder. The salads, pizzas, burgers & sandwiches all tasted good when we finally got it. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, and the server was attentive. The restaurant has an eclectic/psychedelic pizzeria atmosphere. The spinach artichoke dip was pretty good. They let you do half and half on your pizza, which is great when you can't choose between two. The jerk chicken pizza was yummy, but the merry prankster was our favorite. The herb aioli drizzle is amazing! They offer thin crust and classic, and we went with classic, which has a great crust with perfect chew. Finally, you can't beat the location in downtown Franklin. We are Franklin residents and have been to Mellow Mushroom many times. In the past, we thought the food was good, and a fun place to take the grandchildren! We ate there last week(November 2025), and we were completely disappointed. The pizza was mainly dough, the salad had minimal topping, and the drinks were overpriced. The prices of the food were outrageous. The service was robotic. The restaurant has turned into a tourist trap. It is dingy, dark, and noisy. The decor has not changed in almost 16 years. The large mushroom that greets you when you enter is past its prime! There are lots of great restaurants in downtown Franklin, don't waste your money and time at Mellow Mushroom! read more

I'd say this is a solidly "good" pizza place. My wife and I stopped here at 4:30 or so on a weekday, and were seated immediately. Service was prompt and cordial. The pizza itself was good but dough features very prominently (as demonstrated in my pics). Even as someone who loves a good pizza crust, that's a bit of a turn-off to me and we both left quite a bit of crust on our plates. The flavor was good but nothing amazing preparation method, the cheese blend or sauce. The ambiance of this place is purposefully quirky/playful but it is fairly dark inside. 3rd time my wife and I have eaten at this location, we are frequent Mellow visitors, Chattanooga, Charlotte nc, Blowing Rock, etc., I would guess we've eaten at 10 locations or so. Living in Nashville this the nearest location. Service here is fine but our issues is always the ticket times and how long it takes to get food. On our last visit we were sat right away, not busy but yet still waited over 45 minutes to receive or pizza after ordering, our visit took 95 minutes total and the kitchen staff here's is always running at turtle speed. Our second visit was similar as we watched two cooks walk around and circles and chit chat for 10 minutes, our pizza that time also took over 40 minutes after ordering. Essentially if you have two hours to get pizza it's fine, but our last visit the pizza was not typical mellow pizza. Was a deep Dish with so much cheese we Couldn't eat. Avoid unless your a visitor and never ate mellow before. read more

Overall: A chain that, for this location anyway, makes a delicious pizza that's just a tad overpriced. The good: The pizzas are great - the crust is crispy yet chewy, with a slightly charred taste to it (in a good way). The toppings are generous and there are a lot of combos to choose from besides building your own. The Backyard BBQ was great - the sauce on the pork wasn't too heavy and let the poblano and sweet peppers shine. Good pizza. The vegetarian pizza is pretty delicious, as are the salads. They had a bingo night which was fun for the kids. Those are pretty much the only reasons we would ever come back here, though. Their French bread pizza for the kids are not that good and the kids just ended up eating my pizza. It kind of felt like they just put some cheese on top of the French bread and microwaved it. Skip it and try something else. Service was a little spotty, and we had to wait a while to track someone down for orders and for the check. They also didn't give us enough utensils, or napkins. This made feeding my kids really difficult. This is something other staff in other restaurants pay really close attention to when they see that I am with children. I am hoping to attributed to it just being a Thursday evening and then being a bit understaffed, but it's tough when you are with two kids and you want to leave to get them home. read more

As she continued playing on her phone, told us "30 minutes"! REALLY!?! An EMPTY restaurant has a 30 minute wait. Ridiculous!! We decided to leave, still bewildered by the long wait, called and asked about the wait, says they're waiting on servers to come in. It's Shift Change! That's NOT the way to run a business! We sat outside which was nice. When the waitress arrived we ordered everything as we were ready. I ordered a water and a soft drink never received my water. My daughter did and she said it tasted like chemicals so she didn't drink it. After about 15 min I got my salad. Another 15 minutes I received my "pretzel bites" ( they shouldn't call them that as they are not pretzel but pizza dough bites) they were alright but kind of cold. About 25 min after the pretzel bites arrived my daughter's pizza showed up. They loved their pizza. They said it was very good. During all this we never saw our waitress until the end when we needed the check. 2 tables that were seated after us received their pizzas before us. Not sure how that happens. Overall the food is alright, the wait staff needs some serious training on attentiveness to their customers or the management needs to hire more staff so they can. We were "greeted" (not even sure I should use that word it sounds too nice) by the host. Told us it would be a 35 min wait. We decided on waiting seeing as it's Friday night in Downtown Franklin. To our surprise, we were seated after only waiting about 15 minutes. The host that sat us didn't say a word to us as she plopped the menus down at a table and ran off. Shortly after being directed to a table, our waitress (Jane) greeted us. She was pleasant but didn't do a lot of checking in to see how things turned out. Food came out to the table warm-ish, which was a bit disappointing. We ordered the Super Pepp. Being big ricotta fans, we were looking forward to that big glop on each slice. It arrived at our table, and we were saddened to find the smallest little amount. It really was almost pitiful. We also had ordered the white pizza with sausage and there totally wasn't any sausage. It seemed to be a sad pizza moment for me, until I got to the crust. Loved the pizza crust! The place is really cool and it's in Downtown Franklin so it automatically gives it a vibe. Service needs to be addressed though to keep customers coming back. Service is so important to the customer's experience and view of a place. Very mediocre. You can tell they don't train their employees very well. Upon arriving the 2 hosts didn't even greet us they just stared. We smiled and said hi and told them there would 3 of us and then they just started walking to a table without saying anything. So we follow them they drop the menus, we say thank you and smile and still not a word from them they just walk off. The was place was pretty dirty, trash on the ground etc. The server was average, he acted like he didn't want to be there. Mellow Mushroom is a regional chain that doesn't have any locations in CA, so I had to give it a try while in TN. Basically, it's an American delivery style pizza. The crust is similar to Papa John's which has high amounts of oil and sugar, but here it's made with molasses instead of sugar. The rim is brushed with garlic butter and parmesan cheese. The tomato sauce also has a lot of sugar in it. The pizza is baked nicely and I really liked the sausage. Ultimately, this style of pizza just isn't for me but I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it. read more
