It's no surprise to many that Uruguayans love their meat. Cows even outnumber people four to one in…read moreUruguay. It's only fitting that they have a sandwich that highlights that. The word "chivito" actually means "little goat." The legend of the name is that a patron from Argentina came to a restaurant in Uruguay, and tried to order a "little goat" sandwich. The restaurant owner, not in possession of goat meat (and not wanting to disappoint a hungry Argentine), used steak instead, plus whatever else he had in the kitchen and thus the chivito was born. The chivito is also known as the national dish of Uruguay, and is often called a heart attack on a plate. It can be served "al plato" or "al pan," but you're gonna want it "al pan." The sandwich itself consists of thin sliced steak, bacon, ham, mozzarella cheese, a fried egg, tomatoes, mayonnaise, green olives, served on a fresh roll with fries on the side, because of course there are. Pizzarra's Restaurant & Pizzeria on Bergenline Ave. in Union City is most famous for their chivitos and arguably the best place to get one in NJ. I can't recommend Pizzarra's enough. They're an excellent choice for their Uruguayan-style pizza, pasta, milaneses, empanadas, and even desserts, such as the *chaja* cake (meringue, dulce de leche, whipped cream, peaches).

Came here after a bit of a hiatus because I have been away, busy , etc . So glad I cam by, I really…read moremissed this place. The pizza al trancio or por metro is as great as ever, the faina and empanadas hit the spot. The service was very friendly and efficient but not overbearing. The prices are as reasonable as always. They have chaja for dessert but I was so stuffed because I missed their pizza and faina I didnt have room. They owner also has an autographed autobiography by famous Uruguayan international player Antonio Alzamendi of Durazno, Uruguay.

We wanted to hate L'industrie. Well, hate is probably too harsh, but surely it couldn't be as good…read moreas the internet says it is. The long line down the block. The overly crowded "dining room," more like a waiting room for pizza. I can report that the internet was right. The whole experience, from joining the line, placing our order for one slice (lol), joining the angry mob of waiting pizza lovers, and finally stepping out onto the street to enjoy our slice, only took about 30 minutes all together. And this was at 1 PM on a Sunday. Prime lunch rush. (Shoutout to L'industrie's very own Nick for being so chill and keeping the line moving. Such a chill dude. He didn't tell me to say those things about him, but real recognize real.) But it was worth it. My only regret was not getting more than one slice. Like I said, we were doing a Greenwich Village/SoHo/West Village food crawl and had to keep it light. The Fig Jam & Bacon slice might be hands down the best single slice of pizza we've ever consumed. The savoriness of the bacon, the sweet tanginess of the fig jam, and the creaminess of the ricotta scattered throughout the slice just complemented each other so well. If you're a fan of the savory/sweet juxtaposition, this is the pizza for you. The dough had such a great depth of flavor, and it was baked perfectly crispy. Not burnt, just right. Oh! Almost forgot to mention the chocolate chip cookie. It was just staring at us when we placed our order. It was a nice little snack before we got our pizza. Not a must but it won't hurt to order it. I cannot wait to get back to the big city and have L'industrie again. (Spoiler alert: L'industrie was the best pizza we tried on our trip to NYC.)

It's a true, classic NYC slice with the thin and light dough, beautiful undercarriage, and simple ingredients. Solid 4.5/5 but rounding down for the review. Each slice we got was fantastic and I honestly can't pick a favorite. The Burrata Slice added a beautiful layer of creaminess, milkiness, and richness that I enjoyed and complemented the tomato sauce and mozzarella well. The Beef Pepperoni Slice was also delicious with the beef pepperoni being smoky, slightly spicy, and nicely seasoned. As someone who doesn't eat pork, I love that they have this option! It's not on their menu, so this is definitely a #iykyk situation. The Tartufo Slice was the most unique and diverse in flavor. I loved the truffle oil essence in every bite, the mushrooms were delicious, and the ricotta was a great choice here making it creamy but not overly decadent. L'Industrie Pizzeria, you're officially in my top 5! I'm a fan!

And this is none other than "Tom's Delicious Pizza". Located directly on Summit Ave (and tucked in between 17th St/18th St) in the heart of Union City, NJ, this small pizza business has been dishing out mouth watering pizza (by the whole pie or the slice) dating back to 1998 (according to their website). Best of all, they have very generous hours of operation being open Monday-Saturday from 11am-10pm and Sunday from 12-10pm. I came here during the evening of Monday 10/13/2025 at around 6pm. Since it was a cool, windy autumn day, I wanted to find something in close proximity to my Airbnb. This part of Union City is fairly easy to get to (foot, car, transit, etc.) and doesn't get too busy. However, the inside is very small with only a few seats to enjoy your pizza. Their menu is quite extensive for being such a small place. They carry traditional and unique pizzas (in various sizes) as well as wings, fries, tenders, mozzarella sticks, hot dogs, burgers, pasta, and even seafood! However, my lady and I were just craving a piping hot pizza (by the slice) and this place absolutely satisfied our cravings! The guys that worked behind the counter were great as I ordered a slice of their "Chicken & Bacon" while my lady went with a slice of "Pepperoni". Prices here are very reasonable as my slice was only $4 while hers was $3. Once our slices were ready, we proceed to sit down, add our mozzarella & Italian seasoning, and were ready to indulge. I have got to say that this place is legit amazing. Some people say that this best pizza is in NYC but New Jersey is also up there at the top. The slices here are a traditional thin while they did not skimp on the toppings. And the crust had that amazingly consistent texture; buttery, crispy, and absolutely heavenly. All in all, "Tom's Delicious Pizza" is not only delish but the service, prices, portion, selection, and nostalgia of this place made it feel as if I was in an old school neighborhood pizza parlor. And if you just happen to be in Union City, NJ (which is roughly a 15-minute drive to NYC), definitely give them a try. With that said and done, I am giving this small business a perfect five-star rating.
