We're from the east coast and had never been to a Pizza Ranch. I'd been to Cici's pizza back in the day, so long ago that the buffet was $3! Times sure have changed, as a buffet for 2 here was nearly $35. What a waste of money and calories. Why? Let's do niceties and discuss some history first. Pizza ranch has a dedicated following in the Midwest. It has its roots in Iowa and it seems as if the locals love it. God bless 'em. On to the review: We made the mistake of coming through the doors of Pizza Ranch on Valentine's Day and were very disappointed. The food was stale. Many salad bar containers were completely empty, including the lettuce! The marinara sauce that I guess you dip the pizza in (since the pizza has no sauce on it) was very dark, dried out and sad looking. The Mac and cheese looked like it sat out 6 hours, I was too scared and disgusted to try any. The pizza was also pretty old and never replenished. The crust had holes in it reminiscent of those Boboli pre-made crusts you could buy at the grocery store in the 90's. Do they still make those? Let's be positive a little bit: Pizza ranch also has fried chicken on the bone, and chicken tenders. The tenders were in fact decent. I'd say it's on par with what you could get at a chain grocery store, perhaps even a little better, and it was actually hot! I had 3 tenders with honey mustard and that was pretty satisfying. They also have a dessert area with what looked like apple pie pizza, some other product I missed, soft serve ice cream, and cookies baked round like their pizza. The cookies were surprisingly good. Better than the ones I've had from dominos or papa John's. Sweet and flavorful, not just notes of cardboard. My dining partner reported that the soft serve was very good. If you have a sweet tooth and they put out dessert stuff, grab it fast because it's pigs at the trough otherwise. Friendly advice to the store: -please stop putting away food at 7:30 when you close at 8. We arrived at 7 and felt we had no time to eat. -please replenish the food that runs out or has sat out for too long. -Don't you also have bread? We didn't see it. -do you always charge for drinks when people may not want them? I know it's a buffet, we aren't going for our health. But I just wanted water and was charged for soda. Why is it mandatory to pay you to get even more diabetic and corpulent? -finally, Would it be hard to have seasonings aside from salt and pepper? For $35 to feed 2 people, you could spend half as much at dominos using a coupon. Pick it up, bring it home and .have a better experience than pizza ranch. I truly expected better out of such an esteemed regional pizza purveyor. If you do go, stick to the chicken, the cookie pizza, and soft serve. read more

The things we like most about Pizza Ranch are the chicken and made to order pizza. Tonight, the chicken bin was empty every time any of us went to the buffet. We didn't get notified about our pizza and had to check on it. They didn't make the pizza as ordered and it was not fresh out of the oven. We won't be going back. read more

Fantastic! Great place for a family- affordable and delicious food options to please the picky kid. They prorate the kids based on ages so it did not break our bank. You can order a pizza for the buffet made you way, plus they had all kinds of amazing options like this Asian fusion pizza that was ahhhmazing. Just as we were leaving they put out a salad pizza that I wanted to try. The dessert pizza was the best I've ever had! I thought it would be similar to Godfathers but it was sooo much better. I am from Cali and wanted pizza so decided to give it a try walked in and paid 19.00 with the tip and grabbed a table. Went to the buffet and there was fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and gave it a shot! Great fried chicken all and a great supply of it! The potatoes were slightly dry but eh gravy solved everything! The pizza was awesome and I was asked if I wanted anything not there it was crowded but easy to eat there! The atmosphere was of a fun place for kids! The only thing that was bad was when I got up two times they cleared the table the place needs a flag or marker to show people are still eating. This location needs some management overhaul. First time visit and NOT impressed. From the very beginning with the cashier with a big scowl and zero guest engagement to a salad bar that needed to be refilled to an assistant manager who also had a scowl and a terse response when I let her know there was no lettuce. Finally after waiting around 10 minutes i gave up on the salad bar. Next I counted 15 tables that needed to be bussed, ended up moving someone's used dinner ware I sat at a dirty table because none of the empty tables had been cleaned. This section wasn't bussed until I was completely done with my meal. Next, the dessert area. Ice cream machine was not working and the other items in that area hed not been refilled the entire time 40 minutes while I was there. A lot of deer in the headlights look from employees wandering back and forth none of them bothered to pick up dirty dishes while aimlessly wandering back to the kitchen. Absolutely no leadership from the on duty manager. A lot of quibbling between employees. Not once did I see her pick up dishes on her way back to the kitchen either. I was skeptical about a 4-star pizza buffet, but once I started working through the pizza, I had a hard time finding one I didn't like. They were ALL good. And drinks were included, they had salad, fried chicken, ice cream, etc. I should give them 4-stars for ruining my diet for the day, but I guess I'll step up and accept blame for that one myself. I live in California and was planning a party for my mom's birthday in Rapid City. I wanted Pizza Ranch to cater because it's my mom's favorite. I have been in contact with Abby and Katrina for a few weeks they have been nothing but helpful, especially when I kept having to make adjustments. They were kind and accommodating. Nice family restaurant. The various buffet areas were well stocked. There was a good selection of various pizzas, a salad bar and a dessert bar that included soft serve ice cream. I have tried Pizza Ranch in multiple states and they have all been at least decent. This location is by far the best I have ever been too! I took my wife with me this time and she was just as pleased as I was. The customer service was on point. Many people checked it I was ok or needed anything, this is not normal for a buffet! I've heard people rave about the fried chicken but it really is just so so. This was my first dining experience at Pizza Ranch. The Chicken was crispy and delightful, though I was confused why a pizza place sells chicken. The pizza was kind of frozen pizza ish, but the salad was incredibly fresh and the bathrooms were remarkably clean. There was so much food I had leftovers for my beloved cat, Whiskers.
