This review is for their take out menu, not the buffet. For those of you don't know, the restaurant has a much more extensive menu beyond the buffet, which is significantly more variety and more fresh than a static trays under a heat lamp. I ordered Lo mein noodles, friend rice, HK beef and various tofu dishes. All of which were delicious and fresh, rice came with all of the dishes except for the noodles, and the portions are big. Prices are reasonable and everything was cooked well. The local owners of this restaurant were out in front, so it was nice speaking with them- it's not often the case where the owners care enough to be out and greeting customers. Went mid afternoon, the green beans were mushy, shrimp did not taste like they were fresh, the calamari tasted old, chicken chunks for sweet/sour dish were rather dried out and too hard on outside, as was the pork chunks for sweet/sour dish. No waitresses, the owners were the ones doing table duty, no smiles, rather depressing over all. The place had only three other patrons, besides ourselves, and I can see why with the low quality of food. Someone from the kitchen continuously came out to restir the old food in the pans, or to bring out something only to put the old stuff back into it and stir, stir, stir. I was looking forward to going there, it's been a while, but not after this last visit. It will take a rather long period, in time, before we consider returning, if we even think about it, sorry to say. I would visit this buffet around once every 2 weeks. The food is really good, the cleaness is good as well. The reason I stopped going was because, they told me I was drinking too much Ice Tea (they charged me for 2 drinks). The price is good, the food is good, but the staff could us a lesson in good costumer care. I just started going back to it. I now just take water. and I only tip $2.00 regaurdness of service. Got there a few minutes after they opened and there were already several tables getting their grub on. That's usually a good sign. The food was ok, I guess. Not a whole lot of beef in the beef & broccoli, but I'm not sure if that was normal or if someone before me grabbed it all. One piece of pepper in the pepper chicken too. Sweet & sour chicken was hard on the outside and rubbery inside, leading me to believe it was yesterday's fare, reheated. I rate Chinese restaurants on three things. Egg rolls, General Tso's chicken, and egg fu young. The egg rolls were tolerable. The filling was mushy and overcooked, and it lacked flavor. The General's chicken was ok, but there were no peppers in the sauce, leaving it rather bland. Can't tell you about the egg fu young since it wasn't offered on the buffet. Service (drinks/refills) was quite good. The waitress remembered what I was drinking and offered a top off when it was half full. The only fried rice was with shrimp, so if you've got seafood allergies, you're stuck with the sticky white rice. The Crab Rangoon probably didn't have any crab in it, but the casing and filling were delicious. Perfectly crunchy outside that melts in your mouth. The restaurant was clean enough and the bathroom was clean & stocked. The $16.11 check for a lunch buffet was a bit surprising, considering the limited fare. I saw some commercials for this and thought I would try it out. $15, before tip for a person at the buffet. Not many options, and everything was basically from giant cans (not that I expected authentic cuisine at an American Chinese buffet). For the quality and taste, I would perhaps pay $6-7 dollars. Words cannot adequately describe how bad the food is here. Stopped in for the lunch buffet today and got a lifetime supply of salt/MSG. Every single item on the buffet tasted extremely salty, many of them to the point I couldn't eat them. Most items were cold as well. Less than Decent. There wasn't any issues with the service, they were sufficient in picking up plates, refilling our drinks and giving us more napkins. However, the quality in food was subpar for the $17 price tag. Plenty of trays were over cooked, dry and or lacked any flavor. I will say their chicken based dishes were okay, the rest were more close to inedible. Obviously, you don't go to a Chinese buffet for a 5 star dining experience but this place just lacks any effort when it comes to most of what they're serving. Bottom line you can get a much better experience somewhere else for the same price or even less. To be fair, I have noticed most of the negative reviews are from people out of town including me. OK, we've have always loved Golden Fortune, our grandkids also love to go there. However, after yesterday...........nope, not going back! My husband was dishing up a tossed salad and grabbed a few cucumber slices. Cockroach.....dead.....stuck to the cucumber slice! Yes, so he set it on the ledge of the counter. He came back to the table, we watched it set there for 20 + minutes before the main lady was washing the counters and nonchalantly grabbed it and took it to the kitchen. No surprise on her face at all, which makes you think it wasn't an isolated case. Maybe this is an ordinary occurrence in a restaurant? I hope not! But, as we considered where there was one, there had to be more, and they need to "relieve themselves", so nope.....not going there again! The servers in this restaurant were excellent should have charged 20 percent gratuities rather than five dollars or less than 10 percent. The owner came to sit us promptly in our booth and even wiped it down. While the waitress as well as owner were so good at clearing of dishes, offering drink refills. I liked the Salad Bar and Fruit as well as the Chicken steamed dumpling, although both were running low perhaps as the end of day eight pm. My son and daughter who generally loves Chicken Low Mein and General Tsao Chicken did not find so did not really eat as well as a toddler. We were charged full price for a sixteen year old who did not touch his food. The cooks can look to more standard Chinese and American menu and cater as well to children. Although my wife and I ate well, she enjoyed the abundant sushi. Whenever Vietnam is mentioned one always thinks of Pho an amazing soup with fresh beef and fresh vegetable trimmings. This place is my guilty pleasure. They have a large selection of dishes, including some I've never seen on a buffet before. During lunch, they have this fried egg thing drizzled with an oyster sauce; they manage to keep the egg yolk runny, and I can just hear my arteries closing up as I eat it. Their kimchee is really good, but don't try the sushi! It isn't sushi! I don't know what it is, but it shouldn't be called sushi! The soups are decent, and everything is usually hot and fresh. We asked where all the Vietnamese food was and the owner stated that the cook that prepares the Vietnamese food didn't come in. And that they only made Vietnamese food for carry out only. ????? It seems that within the past couple of months this place has gone down in quality and courtesy. I took my family there last night and it started out good we are seated right away. then we had to wait a few mins until our server came to take our drink order. which was understandable since is was a little busy when we arrived. But as we were eating our drinks got low and our plates pulled up and no server. we ended up getting our own drinks refilled and still no server. a few times the manager came over to get our plates and refill our drinks but that was few and far between. And I'm not trying to be that way but there was two families that came in after us both white and they were being literally catered to the server was checking on them like clock work as well as the manager. Well we stayed waiting for someone to check on us and get our plates and drinks. Honestly we felt really disrespected. this is way I say this place has gone down from what it use to be. 4 buffet tables cover most of what you would look for at a Chinese food buffet. Not the biggest selection I have ever been to, but a very large selection. Almost all the food was very flavorful, and lacked the grease usually found at many Chinese food places. Only the fried squid rings were dry. The sushi selection only had a few choices, and lacked the condiments such as wasabi sauce and ginger root. Don't let those small knocks keep you away. You'll do well eating here. Honestly, possibly one of the worst bargain buffet that we ever tried. Here's my honest personal opinion about this place, based on my own personal experience. Food: 1/5. Every single item that I tried tasted wrong. Most of them tasted as if they were submerged in sugar to put some taste on it. Just bad. Price: 1/5.
