I used to go to Platoon Pizza when I lived in Slidell. When I no longer lived in Slidell I did go there once during Covid and ate outside. Everything is always delicious. I love that you get a choice of crust, sauce, vegetables & cheeses. It's great for the ketogenic diet because they have cauliflower crust or gluten-free crust. One of my peeps on St.Tammany KETO Facebook Page mentioned Pizza Platoon in Slidell to me as having a Keto cauliflower crust pizza. Actually reached out on Facebook messenger to the business and ask them if it was true. They responded quickly that it was a personal size pizza and yes, they would make it to order. So I planned on making a stop after work one night. This was it, and, oh, how have I lived without this place? Conveniently located in the Fremaux Mall, the green and white military-inspired logo is to the right of the first circle. As I walked in, I took note of the hours and that I had won a recent award. The next thing that caught my attention was the POW table. It touched my heart that they did that. The dining is casual, there is an assembly-line set-up that has been successful in many chain restaurants. But this is Veteran Owned and a portion of the proceeds go to military families in need. Throughout Pizza Platoon, there are photos of all branches represented. Gunny sgt patches, an arial shot of a fleet of aircraft carriers, a framed photo of a cockpit from a F16, a technical diagram of a 1943 M1 Abrams tank. It kept my interest until the pizza got there. There are also a few big screen TVs which I bet are great when the Saints games are on! Hand-made by Gavin, and delivered with a smile, by Savanah. The customer service was excellent. The choices of vegetables, meats, cheeses and other were well thought out and easy to select Keto-friendly ingredients. So, we were looking for places in New Orleans to get pizza and I had the random idea to see what Slidell offered when it comes to pizza. The answer was not much, but this fairly new place came across our radar and seems to be a local owned franchise so we figured why not give them a chance. Bonus points to them that they offered a gluten free crust. We were not disappointed. The pizza here is very good. They do not shortchange you on the toppings you ask for. Their largest size is 10". I wish they offered a 12" option but that's just me being a fattie. Their prices are really nice compared to other places. They offer a great variety of drinks. Two TVs inside the building so the latest sports games are always on (I would respectfully suggest to show more Pelicans games on one of the TVs now that basketball season has started). Really friendly staff, they offered to change all their ladles and work tools to make sure my gluten free crust has as little contamination as possible. They keep the gluten free dough separate from the regular dough to also help with contamination. Tastes amazing and very fast! read more

The pizza is made from scratch right in front of you. Toppings were very fresh the pressed dough was awesome too. The smell alone in the restaurant is enough to make you hungry. I had to think a bit on the number of stars. If this were a pizza town, I'd give it a three, but it's not. In fact, it's so much not a pizza town that by comparison, I'd have to give it a five, but I see room for improvement, so I clearly can't do that. So four it is. You go to the counter, tell them which of three crusts you want (regular, gluten free, cauliflower, with an upcharge for the last two) and which of five sauces you want (red, white, oil, etc), and which of four cheeses you want, and you give them your name so they can call you over when it's done. Then you choose the toppings. They have named pies you can order without having to think, with prices, and they have the usual "two toppings for" types of options, or they have the "whatever you want" for 8.69. I order what I want, tell the cashier what I got, and let them figure out which price to charge. Now you get to play. Anything they have that you want, including stuff like chopped garlic and plain olive oil that isn't out front, you can put on it. If you want something put on after the pizza comes out (like fresh basil or a dash of olive oil) you can do that too. Like a bunch of sauce? Or just a thin layer? Tell them, they'll do it. Want the pepperoni under the cheese or on top? Let them know. Time to play Mad Pizza Scientist. That alone will keep me coming back to try different things. And see how crazy they'll let me get. A couple of things to look for. When the pizza comes out, they brush the outer crust with butter. I don't care for that, so I ask them not to. The olive oil they have out is garlic-infused, so if you want regular olive oil on the pizza, they have to go get it out of the kitchen. I think they ought to keep it on the line, as it's a pretty standard thing. At least in pizza towns. Which this isn't, so I can see where they're coming from there. The quibble I have is with the crust. The crust alone can be the difference between a stellar pizza or a really bad one, no matter what's on top of it. Here, the crust is just okay. I can't tell you what the problem is. If it were me, I wouldn't perforate the crust as they do (next time, I may ask them not to, see if that helps). They use what's essentially a multi-thousand-dollar heated tortilla press to flatten and par bake the dough before topping, and I've seen that work with excellent results at Mod Pizza in other towns, but it's possible the settings aren't quite right. That or the perforations keep the dough from rising as it should. They use a forced air conveyor pizza oven rather than a high temp clay or brick oven, with the pizza sitting on a mesh, and that could just as easily be the culprit. Those things are great for Sicilians and pan pizzas and deep dish, but I've never seen a really good thin crust pizza come out of one. Or, who knows, it's the dough recipe. Bottom line, the crust is okay, could be better. Overall, it's good pizza and good value. The staff are all friendly, act like an extended family who all have a stake in the restaurant, and work together well, and that's always a good thing. The "platoon" theme is great. A couple of extra DRE (dessert) options would be a nice addition, I think. I don't think you can go wrong here for a casual pizza dinner. Good stuff. Please come here often and keep it open for a long time. read more

Very clean and friendly, I was going to go here one other time but didn't think I would like it so I didn't go in. Last night went with a few friends and enjoyed ourselves. Pizza was good and the pie size was just right to fill me. I say that because of you love pizza one pie per person. If you are not a big eater you could split one. This is a great place to grab a quick low carb pizza (and salad). Both my husband and I got the cauliflower crust, which is amazing- I couldn't tell it wasn't real dough! I have not tried the regular dough and probably never will. Why would I when the low carb version is so good?! Anyways, this is not a fancy pizza place or a brick oven style pizza place (which we do need in Slidell) but is a cute little restaurant and everybody was happy and friendly. You stand in line to order and the pizzas go thru a convection oven right in front of you. I got a side salad and you get to pick a cheese and 2 toppings- perfect size and less than $3. The only complaint my husband had is that he had them add way too much cheese on his pizza and then it didn't get to cook enough in the timed oven... other than that we were very happy and will definitely be returning!!! I like that you can choose your own toppings with different sauces that they make in store. They have many different choices of toppings. My family and I are traveling back from Florida for spring break vacation and needed to charge our vehicle in the same parking lot at the Pizza Platoon. My sister, husband, my son, and myself entered the establishment and no one greeted us. We stood where the boys were for about 6 minutes going over the menu and waiting for acknowledgement but got absolutely nothing. They were working on other pizzas even though the place had two other small groups there(4 or less) but zero eye contact or acknowledgment. So we went to the other end of the counter where the female was and she just stood there.....staring and then fidgeting around with pizza boxes and napkins. So we walk back to the opposite end of the counter back where the boys are. My sister asked is this where we order? One boy responded yes but we have to finish this line order. The girl walked over and again silent. We waited to see if they would have time to take the order and absolutely nothing!! We walked out after about 10-15min clearly not going to be served. We walked over to chipotle then Panera bread and both locations the employees were kind and willing to help. If you have children working with the public and they aren't willing to do their job to serve EVERYONE they need to be fired! I guess I'll never know what the pizza is like at this point. Was going to give it a try because I see that they offer "vegan" cheese. So I called to ask about the crust & sauce but never made it to the sauce question. The young lady I initially spoke with over the phone honestly responded that she did not know if the crusts were vegan and that she would ask. The person that she asked seemed very bothered that someone was calling to inquire about whether or not the crusts were vegan. I didn't ask about any ingredients or anything, just simply if any of the crusts were vegan because when you attempt to order online via the Waitr app, the Cauliflower crust is listed as "Contains Cheese". I could hear the person yelling dramatically "Noooooooo" and a few other statements. I asked the person on the phone if the other person was upset and then she gave the phone to whomever was annoyed by my questions. When the 2nd lady got on the phone, I asked her the same thing, "are you upset that I'm asking about vegan options?". She paused & then responded "no, I was confused about the question but we do have a cauliflower crust and our home made crust is not vegan". I explained to her that the cauliflower crust is listed as "contains cheese" online. I just ended the call because her attitude and lack of professionalism was unnecessary. My pizza was raw!!!!!!! The girl that made it was very rude and did not wear any gloves when she picked up my toppings with HER HANDS!!!!! When asked to please put on gloves I was told no we don't do that here. The crust was like eating raw dough. I got the pizza called Uncle Sam and asked for light sauce which I did not get. The girl then added topping that was not supposed to be on that pizza ( think she done on purpose). So not only was it uneatable it had toppings that I do not like.
