Loved the pepperoni rolls and everyone who had pizza was pleased. We have already ordered twice and just learned of them a short while back.

Pepperoni rolls and steak rolls are delicious! I like their pizza, too. The housemade ranch is almost drinkable.

That being said I wouldn't say this is life-changingly good Italian food, although it is very good. I'm writing this review because I arrived here with a friend at 2 PM on a Sunday, and was immediately told they could only seat us if we promised to be done by 3:45 because they needed the table then. I understand tables have to be held if reserved, but looking around this very large restaurant was only about 1/3 full if that. I also don't feel it's appropriate to communicate scheduling issues to the customer and make them my responsibility. I've never been given a time limit to eat at any restaurant, and from then on the vibes were off. Our server seemed annoyed with us too (maybe because we offered to order everything all at once in order to streamline things because we were told they needed the table) but was perfectly adequate at performing their job. It was a very strange and unwelcoming experience, and I would definitely recommend visiting one of their other locations instead. The food was perfectly fine, but there are other restaurants in the Pittsburgh area with food of the same quality for much lower prices.

Long time customer of Caporella's, dating back to their days in Perryopolis…read more My wife and I dined this week at dinner time for the first time in a few years, it will probably be our last. The menu is the same, massive menu with a list of perhaps 10 different specials. Immediately a red flag, you can't have that many freshly prepared items for a dinner service and have most of it be frozen food service products or pre-made and frozen ahead of time. The bread they give, while hot and warm, is undoubtedly a food service product that isn't real bread, it can't be, and that's an easy one. My wife found a hair baked into her stuffed shrimp, and i ordered chicken Marsala and had to choose a side "pasta, fries, baked potatoes, etc", which is odd. Pair the dish with sides to make it interesting. It just felt lazy and boring, very much turning into a boomer restaurant where the deal is "big portions" and not "th highest quality and vibrant food we can make". The food was good, not great, and for the price tag I'd have expected fresh, all natural, ingredient shining food, but what we got was hot, mediocre flavor wise, and food that has low self esteem. Not to mention our salad lettuce was legitimately brown wilted, very visible from the plater/server prospective, but they sent it out anyway. This may be the reason both my wife and I's guts were wrenching all night, as it was the only common thing we ate. I wish this all weren't true, I love this building and my history with the restaurant, but never again. If you want fresh, from scratch, from fresh REAL ingredients with an amazing menu, check our Jaffre's Tuscan Table in Mt Pleasant, you will not be disappointed. Even my wife said that we need to hit up Tuscan Table to cleanse us from Caporellas. I wish them the best, but we're breaking up.

We have tried many times over the years to get to the new location, but it is so difficult. Especially when you have kids and family events, and have to plan two weeks ahead in order to get them to give a reservation. Be forewarned, make a reservation! You cannot just decide to go to dinner one night and choose Caporella's....at least we've never been able to. For our visit this time, we really liked the location. It is definitely beautiful. Our service was good, as well, while we were there. It was just the wife and I with our youngest, since she was a last minute add-on to our planned date night, and the server was great with her. Food wise, some things impressed, some did not. I do not feel the quality of what I had this time matched the stellar experiences I used to have at the old location. The price tag on few things, as well, didn't measure up. Let me explain. For appetizers: The Beans and Greens were still literally the BEST I have ever had in my life. Their version still stands for what I measure all others against. The Cheese Logs were good albeit crazy for the price, and breading was super heavy on them. For Soups: We had to try the French Onion Soup, as we always do anywhere. It was..eh. Reminded me of a beef vegetable soup with some onions thrown in. There was no depth to it like a stellar FOS would have. It reminded me of something that was just thrown together really quickly. For Dinners: I had the Chicken Parm. Chicken was good, but I really did not like the spaghetti sauce. I'm picky, and it probably is just "me". I don't like tomato-y canned tasting acidic marinara. The wife had their version of a Chicken Piccata, her usual go to, and hated it. She took it home, and I ate it for lunch the next day. It was very sour. Daughter had gnocchi, and liked it. For Desserts: A spumoni, which was great, and a Tiramisu. HATED THAT. I was under the impression it was going to be Tiramisu....not a dry as a bone tiramisu-flavored cake. Was the first time you would hear me say I was very thankful for getting such a small piece. Would NOT get again. Overall, I am not sure if I will be going out of my way to go back again for anything other than those Beans n' Greens. They really are amazing. But, for anything else, the price tag and what we received this time was not going to draw us back again vs. other options in the area, compounded with how difficult it is for us to get there with the reservation-must-have. It's good, but not THAT good.

It was fun watching them fix drinks and mix pasta in the cheese wheel. Sparkling water House salad: candied walnuts and raisins make it next level. Birthday dessert - raspberry tiramisu Complimentary small strawberry filled cannoli was the best cannoli I've ever eaten. There are three levels of dining rooms. We were up on the second floor. Very ornate decor and a beautiful spiral staircase. AJ was a joy to have as our server this evening. We were seated at the bar. But we were treated just like any other table. Great service all night. Seated via OpenTable Reservations…read more Food & Drink: - Mixed Drink(s): 5 / 5 Sip of Sunshine Old Fashioned - My server recommended it and I couldn't understand why he called it SOS until I had it. Spoiler: it's not the name. Clean, clear, smells like any other bourbon until that first sip reveals just how perfectly blended it is. The kind of drink you savor while watching the sun set on the horizon. Crème Brûlée Espresso Martini - As my heart rate settled from the first drink I needed something to kick it back up. One sip and I could've read the dictionary cover to cover without blinking. Close your eyes and the aroma takes you straight to that first cup of coffee fresh out of the pot. Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Martini - Beautiful presentation but flatter in flavor than the previous two. However for a final cocktail that was exactly the point -- the perfect calm down after a rich and spicy meal. - Food: 4.25 / 5 Bread, Oil & Dip: A great palate cleanser that quickly taught me the chef loves his spices. The dip was described as "Italian Hummus" and if this is the standard I completely understand the hype. Appetizer - Ceviche Peruviano: Think of that forgotten appetizer thrown together last minute for a dinner party, a hodgepodge of raw fish and vegetables. But every bite delivers an explosion of complementary flavors, and that sneaky hint of spice hiding in the raw fish bites will wake you up immediately. Pre-pasta - Tuscan Kale Salad: Needed something to cleanse my palate after the spicy ceviche and frankly I am tired of Caesar salad. Not a kale fan normally because it tastes like dirt, but the lemon vinaigrette adds just enough flavor to make that dirt genuinely enjoyable. Pasta - Cacio E Pepe: Easily the highlight. My buddy describes it perfectly as fancy fettuccine. I have never liked fettuccine until now. My server, who prepared it himself, recommended adding house chili oil for a slight kick. I went one click past recommended and even then it was still divine. I would order it again without hesitation. Entrée - Veal Chop, Lobster Tail & Vegetables (Chef's preference): After riding Cloud 9 all evening I felt like Icarus flying too close to the sun. One word: bland. The veal was overcooked with all the flavor locked into the fat, and the lobster tail tasted like a convenience store impulse buy. The best use of those bones would be soup stock. I had no desire to finish it. Dessert - Tuxedo Crème Brûlée: As much as I wanted the house raspberry tiramisu I left the choice to my server after some back and forth. He recommended this for its balance of sweetness and berry bitterness and he was right. The perfect final note to tap out on. Service: 10 / 5 Even now, I still don't think I tipped my server enough. Dining alone, he made the evening feel like I had a companion at the table. Great conversation, personalized attention, and a level of service that few will ever experience. It was a pleasure to talk to someone who knows and appreciates food as much as I do. If you want an exceptional dining experience, request AJ as your server. I promise you won't be disappointed. Vibe: 5 / 5 Presentation, presentation, presentation. That is the theme every dish and the environment itself conveys the moment you walk through the doors at Alla Famiglia. This is a place for those who want to feel bourgeois for the night. Overall 4.25 / 5: My goal in life is to become a regular somewhere. There is something special about finding a place you love so much that every visit still feels like a new experience. Alla Famiglia is exactly that type of place. During my visit I was introduced to new items and dishes not listed on the menu, which only adds to that sense of discovery. It may be a while before I return since this place isn't cheap and my restaurant bucket list is long, but I will be back. Hopefully AJ is still there when I do, because that is exactly the kind of server you want in your corner as a regular. Recommend? Absolutely

We tried to make a reservation but nothing was available. My friend insisted on putting our name on a standby list and the restaurant was extremely excited to call us with a cancellation, which they said rarely happens. I was excited to introduce my friends to this spot! Our party was not the easiest as we have a few dietary restrictions, like one GF person and one vegetarian. We wanted a few of the starters and noticed that getting the antipasto might be the most cost-efficient way. My friend asked if we might have all the meat on one plate and the veggies on another to be considerate of the vegetarian (me) and they nicely accommodated that request. The GF friend was excited to order a Dubai chocolate martini as she thought she would be getting these flavors without the dough she can't have, but it came around the rim and sprinkled in the drink and she had to send it back, which they also quickly accommodated. They also had several mocktails on the menu, really nice options made with NA spirits. I ordered one of these. I usually get the gnocchi here but on this visit they had a pasta special with corn that was like a taste of just-ended summer and I went with that. It was delicious and my friends enjoyed their meals as well. There is a dessert bar next door but service on this night was taking an extremely long time so we didn't get into any desserts. Service on this particular visit was not quite what I've been used to on previous visits overall, and one of my friends mentioned it afterward to the GM who was very accountable and responsive. He had also stopped by to personally check on us during our meal, and it's nice to get a sense that a place genuinely cares about your customer experience. I will continue to come back.
