The atmosphere was good, a nice neighborhood feel. Parking was fair considering we were visiting and did not know the area. The young lady serving us was very cordial and friendly. There were several good choices for seating. The wife loved the pizza crust (though I prefer thicker). The ingredients were well balanced save the olives (they were nearly whole). One recommendation, do not post hate on the front of your shop. We nearly turned around and left without ever stepping inside. read more

On one hand, the crust was good and well-cooked, and I liked that they offered vegan pepperoni, as well as multiple types of veggies. Unfortunately, whatever vegan cheese they are using doesn't cut it. It was thin and waxy, the woe of vegan pizza eaters everywhere. I know there are better cheeses out there now that melt better and taste better. They probably aren't as cheap in bulk, but with the upcharge for all the vegan products, it should be ok to switch. Good pizza~ I ordered the white special (ricotta and squash) and added sausage to the pizza as well. The crust was really good. The front of the restaurant does not have that many seats and it was kind of busy when I went during lunch time on a weekday. I sat in the back of the restaurant (where the wine and bathrooms are) and the decor was very charming and quaint. Service was fast. Not many options on menu but they definitely know how to make solid pizza. Next time I hope to try their red special or pepperoni. read more

The pizza is kind of a Buffalo style w a thicker crust than Neapolitan--still thin, but cheweier rather than floppy--easier to eat. Great flavor. There are natural wines available, but we didn't really see anyone manning the store where those were to help and I saw bottles being brought to the pizza side of things to purchase...my wife is a Somm. so no biggie for us, but this is truly pizza first and wine 2nd. They uplift local bizs in the area and have such a welcoming atmosphere. The patio space outside is really nice on a cool evening. They have seating inside too. There are two sections to this shop: a wine one and a pizza one. You'll order up front and pick up your items when they're ready. You'll build your pizza how you like it. Things are a bit on the pricier side. When I come here, it's for vibes and to support local. The pizza is a bit too greasy and crunchy for my taste, but it's still pretty good. Easy to order online and perfect sized pizzas for one or two people. When I went in to get the food, it was quick and easy. Unfortunately, none of us loved the pizza. We ordered 3 and all the crusts were burnt or too chewy to enjoy and the pizza was underwhelming. We paid $2 to add pepperoni to 2 pizzas and it was only 1 piece per slice. Long overdue review for Pizza Bones, but had to get on here to share my glowing, overwhelming love for them due to their truly extraordinary pizza!!!! Okay, so if you're a fan of delicious crust (CHECK!), insanely flavorful cheese (CAN CONFIRM!), and then some really creative flavor combos with their specials (YAAAAS) then Pizza Bones is for you. Their cheese pizza deserves a trophy because it is truly a work of art. They posted a video once of how they layer the cheese / flavors together, and you can 100000% tell as it is such a flavor blast for what is seemingly such a simple pizza. I'm also a big pepperoni lady, and they have some seriously tasty pepperoni. On top of having delicious pizza, they also have a cutie wine shop, host some amazing dinners and events, are run by a truly lovely and wonderful staff - seriously such a gem in the area and one of my favorite spots. I first tried Pizza Bones when they were doing pop-ups out of Carytown Cupcakes' kitchen in 2020, and got hooked! I enjoy how they cook the pizza pretty well, where the crust is crispy. It is a thinner style crust, which is my favorite kind! Basil, garlic, cheese is always flowing and keeping it flavorful. I was thrilled to learn they were getting their brick & mortar, though Church Hill is a little hike from Carytown, I'll make it for them. Staff is always welcoming and friendly. I enjoy that they offer online ordering as well, and you receive text updates about your order. It's also cool that they utilize their space for pop-ups and markets from time to time, for other local vendors. They have one of my favorite cheese pizzas in Richmond. I called to get a gift card. The woman did not know how to do it. I called an hour later. The woman said she was the only one there but had not spoken with me. We've tried this place twice now. Love the concept and want to like the place, but experience has just been terrible each time. Each time they've taken roughly an hour to make 1 small pizza, and neither pizza was good. It was not busy either time. Employees are just kinda ... there. We've had pizza from pizza bones a couple of times, always pickup. They do have a cute patio space and a little bit of indoor seating, though. If you're coming from outside the neighborhood, keep in mind that it's street parking only. You can call to place your order, or order through toasttab on their website. It lets you choose toppings for the whole pizza or each half. The pizza is good and the customer service is always prompt and kind. I'd say the pizza is a little salty, but I like it salty. The mini cookies are delicious, don't forget to order those with your pizza! read more

Yelp does not allow me to give this the 3 1/2 that would be more accurate, but please understand that I think Pizza Bones is better than a 3 but not a 4. With that said... This is a pleasant place in Church Hill that basically does one thing--pizza. And it does an OK job of it. But this is pizza, and when you are charging $14 for a medium cheese pie, you need to be better than OK, because the competition is fierce. The selling point at Pizza Bones is that the crust is made with sourdough. That may well be true, but I didn't notice any difference between their dough and a typical thin crust dough so I don't know that this is much of a differentiator. Pies come in one size--the 14" medium. We ordered two--a double cheese pie and a double cheese and pepperoni pie. They came out a little overdone. A blistered crust is nice. A burned one is not as nice. Looking at the pies, it is almost as if the oven is not heating evenly or that the pizzaiolo is not moving the pies around as needed while cooking. The pies are also VERY greasy. I expect that (although not to this extent) with the pepperoni, but not the plain cheese pie. Cheese and pepperoni were of very high quality. This did not taste likeover-processed food service "pizza cheese blend" junk. For pies that were ordered with double cheese, there was not a ton of the topping. I hesitate to find out how sparse a single cheese topping might be. That said, double cheese is only $1 extra which is very reasonable. The pepperoni was the smaller type that "cups" when heated. It was quite good with a nice spiciness. Unfortunately with the amount of grease from the pizza, the pepperoni cups were filled with oil which wasn't pleasant. More problematic was the very poor distribution of toppings. See the photo below. This is not how it is done. Non-alcoholic drink options are FAR too limited--Mexican Coke, Topo Chico water, or Richmond City Water. We need some Diet Coke and other options. Not everyone wants to drink beer and wine--although nothing wrong with it if you do. Look, it's an OK pizza. But at the price point they are setting, it just is not able to match the neighborhood's high-end pizza competition like Anthony's and 8 1/2. Don't avoid it but don't make a special trip either. read more

This is a new pizza place in Churchill and overall it's pretty good! They appear to only be doing Togo or you can dine outside at a picnic table. They have limited alcoholic beverages but the rose and red wine were both good. The pizza itself was pretty good. Out of 10 I would give it a 7.2. The best part was how thin, crispy and charred the crust was. I got a pepperoni and it was really greasy but I didn't mind. The pizzas are expensive - $14 for a cheese and $16 for a pepperoni plus $1 per extra topping. They didn't have many topping options available, mainly onion, peppers and olives (there might be 1-2 toppings I am forgetting). The pizzas are 14" in size. Came in an hour and ten minutes later and the pizza had yet to be put in the oven, there were still tickets "ahead" of mine and it'd be half an hour before the food would be ready. They said they were "busy" but I suspect they were prioritizing customers they knew and people that were in store.
