I had a hazy IPA which had great hops, and we also decided to share some appetizers. The corn bread and butter was outstanding, the butter was perfectly salted, and the corn bread was warm and moist. We also tried their special of the day which was a Black Truffle Burrata. The presentation was amazing, the burrata was very soft, and overall the bite was unbelievably complex yet easy to indulge in. For the mains, we had the four star mushroom risotto which was well balanced and dense. And I personally had my eyes on the Maple Leaf Farms Roasted Half Duck which was one of the best duck dishes I've had. It was citrusy and came with forbidden rice , leeks, and roasted squash. The poached pear dessert was very unique, sitting on top of whipped labneh, wine syrup, and was on the sour side with some sweetness from the pear. The best thing I ate at the Taste of Highland Park was the $13 crispy chicken sandwich from Pixca. It was absolutely delicious. A upscale take on the the humble fried chicken staple, was by no means cheap, but it make up for it in attention to detail and flavors. Super juicy, crunchy, spicy, coleslaw, brioche toasted, excellent! I have not had anything else from Pixca, but judging by how they do a chicken sandwich, I would imagine their other foods are just as well constructed. It may be an expensive resturarnt, but if you are looking for a nice place to eat high quality food, this should be on the list! read more

Nothing but good things to say here. This place is much fancier on the inside than it looks from the outside. I was worried we were underdressed, but they greeted us warmly and sat us at a nice table. The food was excellent. We had cornbread and cauliflower and hamburgers, and everything was perfect, with rich and complex flavors. Service remained on point through the meal, and the prices were reasonable for the quality. Nice small cozy spot. Prompt, and good service. The calamari we ordered for appetizer felt like the squid to onion ratio could have been better (not enough squid). The skirt steak with chimichuri and the skinny potato sticks with Parmesan was excellent! The burger with onion jam was also very good. Multiple waiters recommended the strawberry shortcake for dessert, however it was not like the traditional cake, instead it was more like a flaky biscuit with cream and strawberry topping. It could have been because of the hype but I think I would've like the fried ice cream better... or maybe if the shortcake was ala mode? read more

This was a total sleeper place for us! We were in the area and had about an hour of time, so we decided to grab lunch. After checking Yelp, we decided on this place as the menu looked pretty versatile. We walked up, and were able to get seated outside. The fact that weather that weekend was absolutely stunning, was a huge plus to add to the ambience of this experience. The menu is interesting, with a Latin flare. I ordered the green enchiladas, and other members of my party ordered the chopped chicken salad, Breakfast burritos, chicken, and waffles, and the star of the brunch - the avocado toast! The presentation, and all the dishes was top notch! My green enchiladas were some of the best enchiladas I have ever tasted. They were warm and gooey, and saucy, with the right amount of spicy, and were just perfect for me! All other diners also enjoyed their entrées, but the avocado toast was the real visual star of the table, with the beautiful greens, the guajillo pepper sauce, on top, and overall looking scrumptious! The service was impeccable, with attention to detail and accuracy of all the orders that came to the table. The prices are a little higher than your average lunch spot, but you are in the middle of downtown Highland Park, in a beautiful, outdoor setting, so the ambience added to palatability of the bill. I would definitely come back to this place to try the avocado toast. And if you are ever in the area, I would recommend you give it a try as well. read more

I came here to try a new spot and was not disappointed. The staff was very attentive and friendly, the decor was very modern and welcoming, and the whole place was huge. Pixca is very awesome spot! For brunch we tried the chicken and waffles and the french toast. I asked for extra crispy bacon which is exactly how it came. Interested in going back for a dinner service in the near future. Um...where do I start...first off the service was really good. The atmosphere really hasn't changed much since the previous place did most of the changes with the addition of the 3 restoration hardware chandeliers (and I'm not talking about the horrendous Cafe Central with the Uber rude son of the owners who was so entitled and um shall I say, nah I won't go there. Lol. But I digress. Anyway back to Pixca: the new chef owner is a really gregarious and eager to please guy. His food is good don't get me wrong but almost all his dishes come out not really hitting the mark at this price point. I had the steak with chimachuri sauce and onion rings. The steak had a bit of a not- so- fresh aftertaste, sorry to say, and the onion rings were soggy and okay. I also shared the whitefish with couscous and it was doused with citrus sauce that overpowered the dish. My other friend had the duck prepared al'orange. The presentation was not at all appealing: a darkened burnt carcass of a bird with fries everywhere: a total mess and a miss! My partner had the prime burger. It was good if you like an abundance of mayonnaise on your burger to mask the flavor of the prime meat, or was it? We did start with winter salad and it was ok. We should've ordered the Caesar salad. For desert we had the pumpkin bread pudding and it was good and so was the chocolate mouse! I want HP establishments to succeed and would definitely come back here again and give this place another go and hopefully I can give it another star or two. read more

We have partaken of the delicious food here on two occasions. Once we did take out and the other time we dined outside at one of their sidewalk tables. Both times the food was primo! On our most recent visit, the outside experience, we ordered the halibut and the steak. Then hubby and I split the dishes so we made our own surf and turf. The fish was halibut which was cooked perfectly! The whole dish was so perfectly balanced and really hit all the flavor notes perfectly. The steak too, was a master class in dish preparation. Our server did tell us that it was the last night for that menu. The chef changes the menu seasonally and he was shifting to the summer menu. When we ordered in we had a mussels appetizer that was to die for. The burger and the salmon were also spectacular! Highly recommend this farm to table restaurant. It's the real deal! read more

An unusually warm week in November meant we got another opportunity to enjoy outdoor dining...and we didn't even need heaters. After reading so many rave reviews about Pixca I booked a table on their front patio. While they have heaters next to the majority of tables out front, it was warm enough that we didn't need them. There's also apparently an outdoor patio in the back, but I didn't get the chance to see it. The people who work here were very friendly and the place itself has a lot of charm. I really wanted to love it as much as other yelpers, but besides the friendly staff thought the experience was just OK. They seemed a bit off of their game with their service. We were the only table that did not receive bread. We asked for it 2 times and then finally gave up when it didn't show up and decided we didn't need the extra carbs anyway. We also had to ask for silverware after our food showed up and for a pen once the check came. All small things, but they didn't seem the most organized. The food came out relatively quickly and was ok, but I found myself wishing I had gone elsewhere since this was likely our last meal out for a very long time thanks to the pandemic and winter coming. I did like the burrata and would likely order that again if we dined here on another occasion. My chicken was flavorful, but not quite as good as other local spots- including casual Cluckers that I ordered from the next evening. My husband said his short rib special was also just OK. We were excited about banana cheesecake on the menu, but it was basically a piece of regular cheesecake with a banana sliced on top...we were expecting something a little bit more unique. This front patio would be tough to dine at during a Chicago winter, but I'd give this spot another chance once it warms up and/or is safe to dine inside. read more

Started with apricot margaritas (2) and a Smokey Manhattan. 3 of us shared 2 starters; Spaghetti squash with grilled grapes, burrata, pine nuts and toast AND Brussels sprouts with fried onions. I did not dine in this time, I chose carry out. The fish was so fresh you couldn't help but to feel like you were donning by the seaside. Amazing! The skirt steak dinner was a good 6 to 8 ounces, done to perfection. I believe the side sauce may have been Chimichuri which is an Argentine like pesto. read more

What a delightful restaurant in the heart of downtown Highland Park! I thoroughly enjoyed brunch here with some friends. The ambiance is very warm and charming. Service is incredible: special shout-out to Cookie, our server, who was so nice and helpful and put up with a lot from our table, as we were admittedly a tad bit obnoxious. We enjoyed some brunch cocktails: the mimosas were delicious. I opted for the green enchiladas with chorizo for my entree and shared a potato side with a friend. The enchiladas were very good but those potatoes were out of this world. Another friend of mine tried the brunch burger which looked delightful and was served with a side of those awesome potatoes instead of the usual French fries, which I thought was great. The value was good considering what we had. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to return. read more

We are very short staffed like every other restaurant we're doing the best we can I have a bunch of kids with no experience working as servers and they don't know what they're doing, I asked your wife when she was by the bar that day if everything was ok she didn't give me an explanation of the situation in that case there's nothing I can do about it next time if something like that happens ask for a manager instead of going online to toast the restaurant there's always a solution for everything." I don't have a wife, clueless where that came from. Our waiter was at minimum 40 yrs old. We asked for a manager. No response. Nobody came out. Anybody even see one glint of an apology for ruining out Father's Day Brunch. I moved here in May. First time for me here. So rude. So excuse riddled. Never again. Had another great Sunday breakfast at Pixca today. The Shakshouka is wonderful as are the omelets and freshly made guacamole. The staff is always amazing too. Reservations online make it easy to reserve a table for our family get togethers. The place is our favorite spot for dinner in town. The salmon is a favorite as is the kale salad. read more

Had a great meal at Pixca. Husband is celiac, and while they don't have much on the menu that is gluten free, the chef did a fabulous job taking care of him. Made him white fish, simply prepared, but very flavorful. Sitting on fresh vegetables. He raved about it. I had burrata appetizer, with fennel and olives. Unusual and delicious! We enjoyed our brunch at this restaurant tremendously. We had the Huevos Rancheros and the Lemon Ricotta French Toast and both were delicious and also complimented each other (tasty savoury vs light and sweet). We have been here for dinner twice, enjoying the first dinner more than the second as we find the seafood risotto too salty the second time around. The pork chop is too dry. All other dishes were good especially appetisers and vegetables. Desserts too sweet for my taste. Ambiance is pretty nice. Would come give dinner another try. read more

The menu changes here given the season as is hinted in their name. They were overbooked when we got to the restaurant so I asked them if we could sit at the bar. Solution to the overbooking. Relaxed place, gets loud when it is full. The outdoor seating seems to be really private, and looks great for intimate dining. We ordered corn bread for an appetizer. Not the best we have had, but solidly in the top 5. For an entrée I ordered the Skirt Steak with the Charro Beans. You can tell immediately that they use fresh ingredients. There was a distinct play between the heat on the beans vs the rustic smell of the steak. My special other got the whitefish and said it was just fantastic. We snuck in the rice pudding, but not so good there. A bit tough. Overall a great experience and we would go back. read more

HIDDEN GEM in Highland Park. We stopped in for brunch with my two little kids today and the food far exceeded our expectations. OMG everything was so thoughtfully composed and beautifully plated. We got the Brunch Burger, Avo toast, kids split the pancakes and a fruit side, and we shared a cinnamon roll. Everything was pheenemonal. The cinnamon roll rivaled any bakery, and was fresh. A little crispy, soft in the middle, perfectly sweet. My avocado toast was like no other I've ever had. Came with blistered tomatoes, pickled onions, a spicy oil and perfectly over easy eggs that held up to the toast but also had some runny qualities to soak up. Oh and cilantro finished it off. The burger was the best my husband has had in years. HUGE - like 1lb of meat, perfectly cooked, with the aioli with lemon rind in it for brightness, perfect sesame seed bun. I could go on. This restaurant is an incredible find in our backyard. The flavors, originality, service were all outstanding! My Cornish hen, which was a special for the night, was an extraordinary combination of perfectly cooked foul, as well as a blend of flavors in the sauce that was the best I've ever had. My wife , who is an extraordinary, cook herself, had the salmon and was enraptured. Our appetizers of a Burrata dish that had a base that was exceptional and the best tasting cornbread I have had only added to the experience. Was optimistic at first as our initial round of drinks and appetizers were good and prompt. That's where the positive experience ended. Once our server returned to take our meal order, things went off the rails. He admittedly (after around 30+ min of waiting ) forgot to put in our order and promised it would be out in 5 min. Around 20+ min later the food started to arrive. The mains were passable at best - over cooked duck, "shrimp and grits" with 3 shrimp and an over abundance of mediocre chorizo. We were there for almost 3 hours while tables around us (including one for 10) came in, were served and left. Will not be back and would not recommend. read more

This place is my new local favorite spot. We came here a month ago for dinner for the first time and were blown away. The ingredients are so fresh and everything was made to perfection. When we found out they have brunch on the weekends we had to give it a try and have been coming here weekly ever since.
