I have been here multiple times and it's always a treat every time. We decided to have the siblings together for an early NYE dinner and this menu was so satisfying! The menu changes every season so this was new to us since we were in for the Fall menu last. We decided to try all 3 appetizer options by sharing the lamb shakshuka and the goat cheese croquette while we each got the lentil soup to try. The mains were harder to decide so we opted with the beef Wellington, duck, and salmon. The duck was roasted to perfection with the skin retaining so much flavor and moisture. I had the beef Wellington and it was so tender with the pastry still nice and flaky. For dessert we had the brownie and the creme brûlée to share with the whole table. The brownie a La mode was a big hit with my nieces and the creme brulee just had a hint of orange that really helped bring out the flavors without it being too rich. Delicious- creative- excellent service- run don't walk. I lost my hat, on a Sunday, thought I would call on Tuesday when I noticed and see if it was there. It was not. No big deal, my issue. What happens next is truly amazing. Joel asked me where I parked, this was already 2 days later. I said no no it's my fault. He said, I will go look for your hat! Guess what!!! The food was very good. We had the beet salad which was nice. But there were many other starters that also looked fabulous, so I was so undecided. I would love to try the mussels and also the calamari. Or the burrata. For the entrees, again, so many good options. I had the steak which was fabulous. My husband had the shrimp linguini which also looked amazing and he said it was delicious. My starter cocktail was the manhattan and I loved it. This is the good part. The not so good part: no one ever came back to ask if I wanted another cocktail or wine with dinner. Eventually, after I finished half my steak, the waitress stopped by to ask how dinner was, and I asked for a glass of wine. It never came. And she never came back to the table. We waited. And waited. By the time she came back, we were all so tired, none of us wanted to be there anymore. So no dessert, even though we probably would have liked some, earlier. And when I asked my husband to make sure we weren't charged for the wine I ordered/never received, the waitress said, "oh It's not on the check" --- but she never apologized for not following through. The weather was great Saturday, so Hubby and I wanted to try Pixca again on their patio rather than ordering in. You can eat inside; they have partitions and masks and everything; but we aren't quite ready for that. So the patio it was! Everything was just as great as when we ordered out. We had a new menu for spring to order from. Hubby got the salmon again and loved the new presentation and flavors. I got the halibut. It was light and the sauce was excellent. I loved the cooked radishes too. For appetizer, Hubby got the kale salad and I got the artichoke. I'd say he ordered better. His salad was delicious. The artichoke was great when you got to the center. But that's always the case. For drinks, I got a spicy margarita and hubby got the burnt orange Manhattan. This time, I'd say I ordered better. His drink was a bit small and he said it tasted a bit "weak". Mine was tasty, refreshing, and spicy! They plan to open for lunch during the week starting in mid-April. It's a perfect place to meet with gal pals. The brunch is on the weekends and looks amazing. This young couple opened Pixca in the middle of the pandemic! They seem to know how to run a restaurant, even in tough times. The food is fresh and creative, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the patio was cozy. As with all our local restaurants, they could use our support right now, and I plan to keep giving my support to Pixca. It's worth it! read more

We had dinner here last Friday and it was fantastic! Pre-covid we'd have date night in the city every Friday and this was the best substitute for that right here in HP. The food was delicious we had -buratta and stone fruit: so good, had a wonderful flavor and the fruit was so fresh -steak chimichurri; excellent flavor and a hearty portion -white fish: perfectly cooked and beautifully plated -peach panna cotta: so fresh and delicious, best panna cotta I've had outside of Europe Cocktails were phenomenal we tried several, mezcal old fashioned, apricot margarita and pineapple martini. YUM! The chef also send us a complimentary slice of their chocolate cake it was yummy with a great salted caramel sauce. We loved it so much we went back for brunch on Sunday and had huevos rancheros, chilaquiles and pancakes. All were fantastic and my husband said it's his new favorite place for breakfast chorizo. We went to Pixca for the first time and loved it! The food was outstanding, we had the tuna crudo, baby kale salad, whitefish and skirt steak. The place was lively and almost full. We loved the space too. Service was very efficient, if not a little tense. The servers and staff were trying so hard to get the food out, hopefully they will loosen up as they find their way. The food is excellent. The problem is that you will be rushed. They will try to take your dish when there is food on your plate and a fork in your mouth. Within three minutes after we were served dessert and at exactly 1 hr 20 minutes after we sat at our table we were asked to leave so they could sit another party. I had not been to Highland Park in a long time. This is the old Cafe Central space. Our server was very good, and patient with one of, probably, the most demanding customers he's ever had. She was at our table, so I know. The food was good and the space is relaxing. They need to reconsider their pomme frittes. They are very thin (thinner than shoestrings) and very greasy. They would be greatly improved by being bigger (mon ami gabi) and blotted or drained before serving. The skirt steak was a decent size and cooked perfectly. Whitefish was excellent as well as the salmon tartare. The strawberry crostada was delicious. Worth another visit. read more

We were searching for a place to dine this evening, Saturday February 27th. Pixca said come on in. Tanya was so grateful to have us. The food was amazing. The cauliflower dish was incredible. My beef tenderloin was superb. They special made a salmon miso for one of us that was amazing. This newer Highland Park restaurant serves amazing food and treats you like family. The food here is really delicious and very creative. The menu changes every season and, while it is a rather small menu, the chef seems to have perfected the dishes that make it on there. I am really hoping that it succeeds because it is a nice addition to the neighborhood. I would give it a solid 5 stars, but am deducting a star due to our experience last night. Lake County does not have a vaccine mandate to enter a restaurant as does Chicago and Cook County. However, apparantly, Highland Park begin a vaccine mandate about a week ago. Living in Lake Forest, a neighboring community, we had no idea of this recent change. While all three of us are vaccinated and boosted, we did not have our vaccine cards with us, and only my daughter had a photo of hers on her phone. Lesson learned - we will keep at least a photo of both sides of our card on our phones, as I guess these mandates can change at any moment. There was only one table occupied at 6:15pm on a Saturday night when we arrived. We were turned away by the host, due to the lack of vaccine cards for two of us. Went to Carsons Ribs instead - totally packed but they squeezed us in. I understand that restaurants have no control over the mandates imposed on them. However, I think this information needs to be on their website or a Facebook post or something to convey this message. Abigails, another great restaurant in Highland Park, has this new mandate information front and center on their home page. Or perhaps a phone call or text to the reservations they have on the books, to let them know this information. Their reservations were wide open for a Saturday night - every time available - and only one table occupied when we arrived. So I'm pretty sure they could have contacted the few reservations they did have to let them know they would need a vaccine card. We also felt that perhaps the manager or owner should have come to speak to us, not just the host. Again, I am really hoping this restaurant succeeds because the food is really good. Sadly though, my husband will not go back. I'll have to try it again with some friends. read more

Holy Moly! We moved up after 20 years in the city & this place satisfies so many cravings. Great steak, great burgers, creative entrees using bold & exotic flavors from different regions. The ingredients are all fresh and sourced locally, the chef is the owner and his talents in the kitchen are only rivaled by his kindness. Holy cow, the brunch here might be the best in town. I can guarantee that the Avocado is the best I've had anywhere. I don't know what they do to it, but the balance and seasoning is amazing. Had the pleasure of dining here tonight with family. We were blown away by the experience! The manager and servers are absolutely delightful and friendly. The food was wonderful! We didn't take pictures because we ate everything as it came out but we basically ordered the entire menu. All the starters, all the vegetables, 2 of the salads, a few entrees and all the desserts. Everything was cooked well, the ingredients were treated with love, and it was an overall lovely time. Great new restaurant. Interesting appetizers and tasty entrees. The burrata spaghetti squash appetizer was excellent. We had the bucatini, salmon, fish and chips with a side of brussel sprouts and broccoli. All of the food was delicious and fresh! We did pick up and look forward to post-covid eating at the restaurant. They ran the food right out to the car. We recommend trying this out NOW so it is here when COVID19 is over. 3rd or 4th visit but I need to spread the word... I love this PLACE the food is so great, not cheap BUT WORTH IT. I had the Rainbow trout that was so fresh and cooked perfectly, the Mussels also GREAT we loved the fresh cut fries on top and a sauce that was so good we literally cleaned out the bowl.
