This place was a work in progress and they still cooked for me. The couple that own this place is super nice. I really wish them well. The place is coming along just nicely. Now for the food. I ordered chicken curry to go The entree was reasonably priced for Indian food and for what you get. It includes a cucumber salad, rice and 2 pieces of naan bread. The curry was not spicy but it was flavorful. Just the way I like it. The rice had onions in it which I thought was unusual but it was good. The cucumber salad which was good too. Drenched in something kinda like a tzatziki sauce. Now the portions were very small but it was lunch and it is Mt Pleasant. They have weird breakfast only hours during the week. I love Indian food, but by no means am I a connoisseur of the cuisine. That being said, I think this eatery offers authentic regional cuisine that's different than the fare you'd expect from your typical Indian restaurant. The menu is small and simple. Service is extremely friendly and engaging. The owner was walking around asking everyone how the food was and explaining things. The kitchen is an open concept so you can watch the chef do her thing. Prices are decent, and dare I say cheap, for a restaurant in the specific area they're in. Good addition to the food scene and hope they're here to stay. read more

If you want gold watery food and a Very limited selection, this p,ace is for you. I've eating at well over 100 different Indian Restaurants all over the US and in the UK. I've had fabulous meals from different Regions. I couldn't have been more disappointed. The 1 good star is for the service provided and the rice which was fairly good. Full disclosure, we only ate the Vegetarian Thali, a sampling of the 3 veggies entrees. There was no fish or shrimp on the menu and we don't eat meat. Nothing more to add. You might enjoy a wine or beer or the cafeteria style atmosphere here. I don't recommend dinner. read more

Delighted to have had the opportunity to try Coorg on the second day of official opening. I have said numerous times I love Indian food and my hankering has been satisfied once again. This is a family run establishment with the owner at the helm of the kitchen. We had Spicy Chicken & Chicken Curry along with a small plate of ribs as an appetizer to share. I had my son with me, who has a large appetite!! The plates are normal size and servings are perfect. You will not leave hungry nor will you leave like a stuffed duck. Also to note the food is authentic Coorg Indian which differs from most Indian Restaurants. Curry is of lighter consistency than what you may be used to. I of course had some coffee which is imported from the family coffee farm in India. Fantastic. I have to say. I really wanted to like this restaurant. I love Indian food and we definitely need a good Indian restaurant in Mount P. Sadly, Coorg just didn't cut it. I came in for lunch and I liked the space, it was nice and clean with a few booths and tables. It's a good thing I liked looking around because the waitstaff, although clearly working diligently, didn't come to our table for a good ten minutes. After getting our drinks, we waited a good while to place our order. No big deal. The menu is limited, entrees only, no appetizers or sides. So I ordered Spicy Shrimp and my friend got Chicken Curry. The food came out pretty quickly. There is no bread or anything while you are waiting, which I am fine with. However, the lunch portion is shocking. My $11 plate had a handful of shrimp and a half a cup of scooped rice. That's all folks. My friends' portions were the same. The menu advertised that we would get naan and chutney with our entree but we did not. I asked about it and the waitress said, "we stopped doing that". Fair enough. The food was okay but not really delicious, a basic tomato sauce, not that spicy and no bright flavors or anything to make it memorable. How do you eat Indian food without naan, I ask you? And why are the portions like a tapas or child's portion for an entree? Disappointing. Honestly, you would do better to go to an Indian buffet in West Ashley or North Charleston. I get no pleasure writing this, I really wanted a local Indian restaurant. Bummer. read more

Being a fan of Indian food, I was pleased to see that one was opening in MTP. There have been two others that were opened for a few years, then closed. In fact the first one was where I was introduced to this fine cuisine. Wife and I decided to try this place out on Valentines Day. On internet map service had the wrong address and put us across Ben Sawyer, but we locate the correct address, not after my wife found a new dress shop she wanted to "visit".. So, this place is small, which is why they call themselves a cafe. There weren't any lines outside, a couple of people inside and I could see an empty table or two. However, when we walked in we were told there was an hour wait. Surprise, surprise.. I asked if they took reservations and was told no. Wife and I talked and decided to stay, we were then told we could be seated but the one-hour wait was for the food. OK, everyone must have just ordered, and with the VERY small kitchen area, it would take an hour to cook all those meals. We ordered a couple of drinks, I had a LI Iced tea (weak, had coke in it), wife had a margarita, decent taste. For dinner, I had their goat plate and my wife had a sample platter. The sauce for the goat was VERY flavorful, the meat was slightly tough, never had goat before, so not sure if that is normal or if the prep could have made it more tender. Also, there were bones in the goat, which I could handle but there were also very sharp bone slivers, which did make it into my mouth. My wife said her chicken was slightly dry, but she also enjoyed the flavor. I will try this place again. read more

I'm excited that MtP has Indian food to add to our ethnic cuisine choices. Coorg serves coffee (which I went in for), but it smelled so delicious, I tried a Roti Roll with spiced potatoes. I was the size of a burrito! Not bad for an appetizer. It was delicious! BasThe potato was more like a boiled / mashed consistency and it was SPICY! What a lovely surprise. I'm very disappointed. We need more Indian restaurants around here. I got the chicken curry and it was more like a soup. The flavors are pretty good, but it was so watery and oily instead of the thick creamy curry sauce you would expect from curry. They also used white rice instead of the thin Indian rice so it throws off the flavor a bit. I also didn't receive any naan as some of the photos showed on the side. Some of the other photos looks great and maybe I'll try this place again with a different order. read more

Had lunch here today for the first time. The goat curry was delicious! The gravy was savory and spicy, but you could still taste the high quality meat. Basmati rice was aromatic and tender. Naan was a great side with a pleasant, tender chew to it. For dessert, it was a latte and the baklava. The latte was a very smooth dark roast that paired well with the sweet and flakey pastry. Overall, it was a dynamite meal! We will be back for sure. read more

The Coorg Indian Cafe is one of the latest addition to the Mount Pleasant's eclectic food scene. I heard about it for a while and thought to experience it. I was greeted by Amelia and she was nice, warm and inviting. I could not resist the urge if having the Taj Mahal Indian beer. The co owner Darshan personally served it and we spoke about their vision. He was extremely gracious. They do have the Flying Horse Indian beer as well. I wish they would add a few more Indian beers as well like Kingfisher. They do have the top shelf Amrut Single Malt Scotch, the only Scotch made and exported by an Indian brewery. Try it neat or on the rocks if it's your thing, you will not regret it. Well I first ordered an appetizer the chicken sausage Roti Roll. The chicken sausage made with mild Indian spices wrapped in a fresh house made whole wheat wrap (Roti as you call it in India). It's served with mint and mango chutney dip and yogurt dip as well. I was impressed thoroughly. The spice level for non-Indian palate is on the spot. If you have't have Indian food before and a bit skeptical go try it; you will not be disappointed. Next as an entree I ordered the bone-in spicy goat. Make sure if you are not used to bone-in meat please order spicy lamb or chicken. The spice level is mild, medium and hot. I ordered hot as I eat insane hot food. For a typical non-Indian palate I will always start with mild unless you regularly eat very spicy food. The plate and presentation looked awesome. It's served with steamed veggie; nice crunchy carrot and cauliflower and rice made to perfection. Not over cooked nor underdone. I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy goat topped with fresh cilantro and ordered additional rotis (wraps). In India we tear a small piece of that and pick up some spicy gravy with that and eat it. You have the option to order nun as well (leavened India bread) which is a signature Indian bread. Whenever most think about Indian food they think curries. This is not curry. The curry will have usually a watery gravy. The spicy goat the gravy is thick and is very different. I have not tasted the other dishes so I can't comment but from the overall impression I realized that this place is different. Why? The owners Preethi and Darshan Ayendra (I spoked to them both and they were super nice) definitely had a different vision. Most traditional Indian restaurant do have a lunch buffet and a la carte dinner menu. The typical complain of all the non-Indian palate is "everything taste the same". This is a genuine issue. The owners wisely decided to think out of the box and try something very different. A small made to order menu. Excellent!!! Last but not the least; Coorg is a region of Southern India and the owners are bringing the authentic recipe to you. That's why it's eclectic and should be in every foodies list. Moreover the Coorg region is one of the very few regions that grow Indian coffee. The owners family do own some of the coffee plantation and bring in authentic Indian coffee beans. I doubt where else in US you may find this. You may have tried coffee from Brazil, Ethiopia or Sumatra and Indonesia. Think you are a Coffee connoisseur? Then put India on that map. As a last word I would say Coorg is a very atypical Indian joint and eclectic by all means and I am sure it will find it's own niche in the rich food culture of Charleston. Experience it. read more

Cute new concept cafe in mt pleasant. So glad for any new additions to the ethnic food scene in Charleston bc they are desperately needed. Have been here a few times. This is a family owned and run restaurant-The food is cooked with love by the mom, dad is always there to meet and greet you, and occasionally their 4 adorable kids are also there hanging out. Coffee is delicious, the dosas, paneer tikka, and roti wraps are my favorite. The goat was also a good try - but be warned it's spicy! Give this place a shot and support a local minority business :). read more

Great Food has always been one of the high points of our trips to Charleston and MTP, but as a long time lover of Southern Indian there has always been something missing. Trying Coorg for the first time was one of those rare "pinch me I'm dreaming" surprises. The food is fresh and flavorful. Not too much spice or heat. Everything was on point for my pallet and not too spicy for my wife who tends to be more sensitive. The menu is not extensive but it has some solid options. The thali allows you to choose/mix and match 3 items from a list off 3 meat options and 3 vegetable options. Basmati rice, fresh naan and raita (sp?) are included. Everything I tried was great, no regrets. The pork was my favorite and the Lentils were awesome. The great naan is critical, and they nailed it. The atmosphere is simple and clean, more coffee shop than Indian restaurant, which is expected based on the name :) I did have a Latté and it was fantastic. They even had stevia in addition to the regular synthetic sweeteners. The manager was super friendly and brought our food out quickly. Overall the experience was great and I look forward to our next visit. I'm hoping they add a table outside when the weather permits. read more

There isn't a lot of Indian in the area.. especially not in Mount Pleasant. Coorg is a coffee shop/restaurant. We went as a group and tried the chicken, pork, goat, ribs, and shrimp. It came with rice and chutney. Not knowing this type of cooking very well it's hard to assess. Everyone in my group likes their food. I found it to be a little too hot (spicy) but not really flavorful enough compared to other Indian food. Adding mint and yogurt really helped!! The service was great and all of the staff were kind and accommodating. Our food came fast and the portions were large. The coffee was great. We will be back! read more

We love Indian and we were very excited to see this place open up, especially after reading the (now suspiciously glowing) reviews. We ordered several dishes for take-out and were thoroughly disappointed. The pork was tough and fatty. The shrimp were small and rubbery. The naan bread was flat and moist. My dog seemed to enjoy it. The pastry we added on impulse when we picked up the food was good, not great, and did little to take the sting out of an expensive, barely edible meal. read more

This place is new and they have some kinks to work out with service. First, the restaurant is in the shopping Avian area with plenty of parking and we went in and got seated right away. The restaurant is small and the kitchen is open so you can watch them make the food if you want. Our dishes were quite good. Lots of flavor and the Naan was yummy. The only weird thing is that we had this really nice waitress for the majority of our meal and then she was gone. No word on her leaving so once we figured out that we weren't going to get our bill at the table we had to go up front. They didn't have a ticket for us so we had to let them know what we ate and pay the bill there. Weird. They didn't think twice and just remarked "she left". So besides that just ask for your check as soon as your food comes. The food was good though and I will return. I'm chalking up their lack of organization due to it being new and hopefully they'll figure it out. read more

We stopped to check out Coorg because we were in the area and wow-what a find. Although we simply ordered the Lentil /Dal we found it to be perfectly spiced between hot and flavorful. Ordered $125 worth of take out, was told 45 mins but took 2 hrs and 20 mins. We waited for 90 mins in front of the restaurant and even asked 2 times for a refund. Instead of doing the right thing and owning the problem they argued with us that we ordered too much food. You'd think most local businesses would appreciate a big order not tell their patrons it was their fault for giving them too much business. read more

We are from Dallas and were visiting my friend in Charleston. We picked up food - pandi curry (pork) from Coorg Indian Cafe for dinner. This made me feel we were literally in Coorg eating this rich authentic dish. We also enjoyed a very nice conversation with the owner lady there. We also had one of the best coffees and it just takes you back to Coorg again. I usually stick with what I know but I had an MUSC event for some of our Drs and Alumni for a reunion weekend and needed to switch things up. Coorg was new and so we took a chance. AND we were so Pleasantly Surprised! The staff and chef were super customer friendly to accommodate and guide us on what would be best to serve to a crowd of 40. Some items they felt best served from oven to table only. They don't usually cater and wanted to make sure everyone was happy. The curry shrimp was a hit! The rice, ribs, and paneer were also favorites and people kept going back. They toned down the spicy heat for some of the dishes since while it was a diverse crowd it was still fairly American in terms of the food they were used to having at these events. So I highly recommended Coorg and cannot wait to go back to the restaurant and have some of their fabulous coffee and chai and try some of the things we were not able to have for the event. It is a family run restaurant where everything is made fresh with pride in everything they do! I highly recommend giving Coorg a try. read more
