The one comment I would have is the ingredients of the salad were so big, it was hard to eat, I wish they cut the fig, tomatoes and cheese up a bit so it was easier to eat. Pitapitaki is located off Cherry and Wardlow tucked away in the middle of a small shopping plaza.The ambiance is casual, clean with a nice traditional "taverna" sit-down. When you walk in you immediately see the menu. The interior is nicely decorated with Cycladic pieces (the white and blue color style). Outside are more seats to eat al-fresco. The bougainvilleas are a nice greek village touch. Overall atmosphere is a 10/10. You feel as if you're in Greece with the greek television in the background. Service: The staff are very sharp, attentive and hard workers. They can explain the menu and are quick to understand what anyone is looking for. When I am in the area I frequent the place and the occasional little greetings by the cooks are what makes it feel like home. The staff are very friendly. Experience: This is by far the best and most AUTHENTIC Greek establishment in the area & in Long Beach. Look no further, TRUST ME, I have done the trial and error process. The menu has variety. It includes traditional Mediterranean dishes with authentic items: Gigantes, Avgolemono, Tyropita, Gemista, Mousaka etc. If you see these dishes on the menu, 80% chance the menu is authentically Greek. The variety and quality of the menu is well developed. For dessert, do try the Baklava Cheesecake if you're a fan of both desserts. It's an embarrassment to riches. Ingredients: Nothing but the best bang for your buck. Genuine Greek olive oil, fresh produce, and amazing, generous feta. Greek food is all about the freshness -- it's what makes it taste good. In my books for mediterranean food I pay attention to the freshness, oils, and especially the feta if it is a Greek restaurant. Beverages They have greek wines available to purchase as well as Greek beers. I prefer a nice cold assytriko for lunch -- which they have for sale by the bottle. I love how frappè (greek style cold coffee) and Greek sage tea is available. One thing I don't recall seeing is Mastixa?, a greek liquor digestive However that is obscure to find on the west coast -- I highly recommend it if you like earthy, pine liquor tastes to finish off the meal. What Catches my Eye: Attention to detail here speaks for itself when you walk in. You immediately see it from the decor and the usage of their space. As for Greek food, the best litmus test is how one cooks lamb chop and octopus. They cook both well without a doubt! Also the lamb burger is such unique offering. I recommend it, the burger would fit right in at a upscale gastropub. $ Value $: The best bang for your book for the speed, quality, and convinence. Expect the main dishes to be from 15 - 20$ / per main plate. You get authenticity and freshness than spending 20$+ at a haughty sit down. Pita Pitaki is a good deal for what it offers. It's priced well, but do not let its casual chic presume its cheap either. Overall & Recommendations: Fantastic robust all around place. If you asked me for Greek food in town, this is the first and only stop I would reccomend. The prices, ambiance and quality is harmonious. I recommend trying the Lamb Burger, moussaka, and of course the pita sandwiches. Do try the tyrokafteri if you like a little feta creamy spice. For what the establishment is, I would not change anything. However, some cool dishes or concepts to add is a Greek breakfast and Greek espresso. Possibly try introducing regional greek specials. Not sure why it took so long for us to check out Pita Pitaki. Technically, we briefly tried it once a year or two ago. We were snacky and stopped by for some dolmades. They were good dolmades. But that's all we had and it took us another year or two to finally revisit Pita Pitaki. Now that we've had a legit meal here, I think this might be a regular spot for us. In fact, that meal was so good that we came back 2 weeks later for another yummy dinner. That's how much we love this place! It was the Veggie Plate that sold me. It comes with 2 dolmades, tabouli, hummus, a veggie skewer (bell peppers, red onion, mushroom, tomato), and falafel. Let me tell you about their falafel...it might possibly be one of the best falafels I've ever had. The texture is different than other falafels I've had. The falafel here has this smoother texture on the inside. The way that it's fried feels lighter than what I'm used to so it doesn't have a crunchy hard shell. Just enough brown on the outside to satisfy the crisp. This plate also comes with pita but the staff was kind enough to inform me that it contains dairy. This one was new to us and we made the 30 minute drive to visit it based on some rave reviews on TikTok and Instagram. Sometimes, being married to a Greek is exhausting as we're always on the hunt for a more authentic cuisine and experience. This one delivered! Started with the elusive Tiropitas (feta-cheese-filled pastries in Filo dough). Very few restaurants make them as they are fragile and very time-consuming to master. They were spectacular.! Onto the spicy feta cheese dip. Two words... Best ever! Next, the entrees. Greek wife got the Gemista-- tomatoes, and bell peppers stuffed with rice and a concoction of other goodness. Again, not easily found in Greek restaurants in Southern California. She loved it and swore that we would be returning if not just for that. I got--as always-- the Lamb gyro plate. Unfortunately, I got the last of the gyro meat on the vertical rotisserie, and if I'm being honest, it was a bit dry, although very flavorful. I will overlook that since I saw it before I ordered and suspected that might be the case. One note: overall, portions were double XL; enough for each of us to have a complete meal the next day. Came in tonight (Halloween) and the girl working the counter was awesome. Very friendly ( she had dyed blue-ish green hair) service was perfect. She even brought candy for everyone to pick out! I had a falafel plate /w potatoes and it was all fantastic, only knock I have is there was a couple pieces of pita that tasted stale. Rest of the plate was phenomenal. The food was good. Not overly salty. The young lady at the register was a doll. Since they sold wine by the glass I asked if I could try one before committing to a glass. The grumpy lady behind the counter told me she was not going to open an entire bottle so that I could taste before deciding. That set a bad tone for me. It would have been nicer if she mentioned I don't have reds open but if you would like to try a white I have those available. She did come back a couple of times to ask what wine I wanted since she had white open. At that point she has already ruined my experience. I am accustomed to the excellent treatment and courtesy we have always received from George's Greek. Her attitude does not make me want to return since there are so many other Greek options in the area. The interior is small. Not for groups. But cozy. The fans keep the air moving but also make for dirty seating. Our table was cleaned but not the bench. After wiping the bench I had a dirty napkin. They do have a few seats outside. I don't know why I've slept on this spot. For a long time, almost all of the Mediterranean spots that I've been to in Long Beach were acceptable (Panini Kabob, Green Olive, that doner place in LBX, George's, and Taboon, and I'm sure I'm missing others). But none of them slap like my 3 favorites: Open Sesame, Ammatoli, and King Mediterrano (in Torrance). So finally, we decided on Pita Pitaki because we keep seeing it and I kept hearing about it. We did go once but that was purely because I was on a dolma kick and Pita Pitaki did have good dolmas, but I really didn't want to write a review on one to-go item. This time, we made a conscious effort to dine in. Definitely a family-owned spot and casual. But man, the food was fantastic! Everything tasted fresh and the staff was helpful in making vegan substitutions as necessary on their dishes for my SO (their pita has milk powder, so ask for the homemade bread as a substitute). I ordered the dolmas because they were fantastic the last time I was here. The street fries though, are amazing! Just stacked and piled with toppings and fresh fries, you can't go wrong with it! This was big enough to be a meal in of itself. The gyro, probably drier than I like, was probably the only knock and it's not even enough of a knock to drive a point down. I'm so glad we found Pita Pitaki...it's now added to our rotation of regular spots (so far this list includes Thunderbolt Pizza, La Taqueria Brand, Lola's, MeeMa's, and Grilled Fraiche) as locals.
