It is such a shame that I have to write this, but this was awful. I was with a friend and we got a cheeseburger and a hoagie for carry out. The hoagie literally had 1 very thinly sliced piece of meat on it. It was essentially a $13 load of bread with some unseasoned fries. My friend got the cheeseburger and said it was underwhelming. No seasoning on either the burger or the fries. I understand this is marketed as a pizza place, but if you are going to have subs and burgers on your menu, shouldn't you try and make sure it is not a total rip off? The only reason they get 2 stars is because the staff was very welcoming and seemed great. I visit Frederick often, but I won't be coming back here. read more

Pizza was good; above average wood fired with gourmet topping choices. Atmosphere is pleasant enough. Overall, good but not outstanding. Warning on the jalapeño poppers: they're only lightly roasted, so the jalapeños are raw and, at least in our experience, inedibly spicy. read more

There is a lot of great food to be had in Frederick and my wife and I stumbled upon Pistarro's when we went to the town for First Saturday. What a great find. The pizza is off-the-hook good and the staff is very attentive and friendly. The place was packed when we arrived and I'm glad we decided to wait and snag a two chairs at the bar when they opened up. We had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Both food and service were superb, and we will definitely be back. Tried the mozzarella fritta. The mozz is made in house and incredibly fresh. Hubs liked it so much (and he's a fried mozz connoisseur) that we got a second order. I tried one of the daily special pizzas, the big apple, which was an awesome combo and seemed like it literally melted in my mouth. Hubs got the pepperoni pizza and it got two thumbs up. The crust is delicious and light, and the toppings are fresh. I usually don't get dessert but I had spied a chocolate mousse-like concoction on the menu so I took some pizza for leftovers and indulged. Fan-freaking-tastic. Deep chocolate, whipped cream, and a little bit of salt- wowza. Just get it. Kara was our server and she was nothing short of perfect. This is a family favorite for sure. My family and I frequent this restaurant at least once a week. The Bianca pizza and the fried artichokes are to die for. They cook all their pizza in a wood oven which makes the crust crispy and always has a nice Smokey flavor. It is authentic Italian and it shows. read more

This is our go-to place during our frequent excursions downtown. You wouldn't think it from the outside, but it's a great place for families with children (at least during the day). It has a casual, airy atmosphere, wonderful food, friendly staff, and the music they play is always just right (not too quiet, not too loud). We like to go there when it opens (around 11:30) and my 2-year-old son loves to play in the playground next door beforehand. I especially love the little plate of pizza dough they give children to keep them occupied while you wait for the food to arrive. It's a nice touch. I am still trying to find a pizza on the menu that I like. I've tried two kinds so far: The Blu Fico (Gorgonzola, yukon gold potato, figs, mozzarella, rosemary oil) and the Margherita (Tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil). The Blu Fico was a bit unusual and unexpected, and the Margherita was "meh." I do very much like their pizza dough/crust though; it's incredibly good. I honestly love their Meatballs the best and have found that just ordering the meatball appetizer as an entree is a perfect amount for lunch. read more

Soggy pizza. That's what defined the evening. We started with the calamari which was hot and delicious. It was lightly fried and had a great flavor. It didn't need the aioli, though that was good too. When the pizzas arrived, I quickly noticed two things. One, each was only cut into four pieces which made the slices more difficult to eat unless you were going fork and knife. However, our slices folded easily since the pizzas were so soggy. At first I thought maybe they were undercooking them a bit, or that the ovens were not as hot as other locations, but I noticed the crusts had good burn marks. That suggests that the server(s) did not deliver the pizzas promptly after preparation. We should have been remarking how hot the pizzas were and waiting for them to cool before we at them. That was not the case and I think the delay caused the soggy crust and the dullish flavors on the pizza. It appears they use good ingredients but the flavors did not shine through on this night. The non-soggy part of the crust, towards the edges, had good flavor and that good chewy bite that I like to see in a pizza crust. On a side note, the server never offered new plates for our pizza even though our first plates were covered in calamari shrapnel and sauce. i realize this is not fine dining but it's a pretty basic courtesy of dining. read more

We stopped for a quick lunch on our way home to Baltimore. We sat outside on a cute patio. They have a kids menu with pizza pasta and chicken options. They all come with drink, dessert and dough to play with. Perfect for kids! We split a sausage pizza which was superb. Had the fungi pizza (not spelled right) and the meat ball pizza. It was very good - tasted fresh. Also tried the calamari and that was really good - tasted fresh (not frozen). I plan on visiting again. They have an oven from Naples, which is pretty unique - looks like an apple from my seat. :). Truly delicious pizza. Great selection of vegetarian / vegan items. And we'd really like to come back and try other menu items, but I can't give our experience any higher rating because we ended up leaving with all our pizzas boxed up after waiting at our pizza-less table for an hour after we ordered. Appetizers were long gone. Beer glasses were empty. And we got there at 5 o'clock when the restaurant was slow. Found out the server forgot to "fire" our pizzas in the system. And the manager passed by our table full of dirty appetizer dishes at least 6 times, meeting our eyes and seeing our kids get increasingly more fussy, without ever addressing us to see if we were being taken care of, or checking in with the server. You guys have to get better at this. Your pizza is worthy of it. But we waited too long, didn't get to eat, and never felt that the situation was acknowledged. read more

Pizza is delicious. It is traditional thin crust, I mean realllllly thin. I like it like that though. The only thing that's a drawback about that is when getting curbside, it starts getting cold very quickly and will get a little squishier than I tend to prefer. I sure do miss the days of sitting inside with a hot fresh outta the oven pizza (not sharing), a cold beer, not having to listen to the abundance of all the poor kids screaming their heads off bc they have no outlet and yes, poor parents too. I highly recommend this place for in-restaurant dining or if you can manage curbside and live close by, and have a pizza stone or something to heat it up on, you will be mighty pleased. read more

What a great experience at this place! Returning from a trip to PA I need a quick bite to finish my trip, so I stopped by Pistarro's and I am so happy I did!! I was greeted by a friendly smiling face as soon as I walked through the door. I was alone so I took a seat at the bar, I was immediately greeted by a very friendly bartender who was just finishing her shift but assured me she would get me taken care of before she departed and she kept her word. I ordered a beer and the Versace (mozzarella, arugula, prosciutto, red sauce) pizza, it was delivered in less than 15 minutes! I will definitely be coming back just based on the outstanding friendly service, the wood fired pizza is the 2nd reason to return and trying other menu items is a solid 3rd. read more

After 10 minutes we inquired with the server, she said they were really backed up. 5 minutes later, after the other two people were done, the first pizza came out The person was in shirt / tie so we assumed he was a manager. Asked about the other, he said soon. About 10 minutes, it came perhaps cook medium at best. Never been in a setting where entries were delivered so scattered. Very disappointed. I really like this restaurant, nice modern look, great patio area, wood fired oven, fresh made pasta. The carbonara is very good, crispy pancetta with a smooth sauce that is just right, not drowning in sauce so you can appreciate the fresh pasta. The pane bread is awesome and the toasted olives are a nice snack to start off. I've had their pizza, very good. They also have a good bar and local craft beers. Don't skip this place. read more
