I spoke with an employee twice to confirm the cost of stretching Marimekko fabric onto a canvas riser--both times I was told it would be $180, a price also listed on their website. Based on this clear communication, I drove an hour each way to the store. When I arrived, the owner inexplicably changed the price--not once, but three times. First to $250, then $275, and finally she refused to give any definite number at all. Her justification? That she wasn't making money on the fabric sale, so the quoted and advertised price didn't apply. That's not just bad business--it's dishonest. Even when I agreed to pay the higher price of $250 just to move forward, she still wouldn't commit to a final cost. The lack of transparency, flexibility, and professionalism was astounding. In the end, I wasted over two hours of my time on a Sunday and left without the service--because the owner lost a sale over $25 and refused to honor her own employee's quote. I just walked into this store to take a look at their coats and head scarves while my boyfriend was outside paying a tow truck driver to not tow his car which was parked right in front of this store. I walked in and was in there for no more than 5 minutes. During this time the worker did not greet me, didn't ask if I needed help, didn't make me feel welcomed. I tried on a head scarf and I was waiting for someone to come help because I wanted to know if they had different designs since I didn't like the color of the one I tried on. I then put the scarf right back on the manikin and my boyfriend happened to call me right then and there to let me know he was done. I get in the car and we start talking about how much it sucked that he had to pay $200 to not get his car towed as I hear someone knocking on the passenger side window... it turns out it was the unwelcoming, unhappy employee asking if I stole anything?? I told him absolutely and told him exactly what I did in there. He then proceeded to go inside and stood by the main entrance door to take a photo of my boyfriends car as we drove away. This was by far worst and most down grading experience I've had. I felt like I was targeted because of the color of my skin and I honestly don't recommend anyone going in here. read more

I was so excited to visit this store as I love all things Scandinavian. They have very nice things, but the staff were incredibly uninteresting in assisting us, even though there was no one else in the store (this was pre-corona virus - in early February, 2020.) Without going into too much detail, I have never felt more unwelcome in a store in my life and I was not browsing, I was trying things on - there was no effort to help whatsoever and I basically had to beg them to phone and see if they had my size in their warehouse. They didn't. By coincidence, I was at a department store in Canada a few days later and found the same dress, in the size I needed, and it was $70 cheaper - so the dress that would have cost me $295 US. was $225 Canadian and it was not on sale. If you can avoid this store, do so. There is a wonderful store in Bellingham called Ideal that stocks beautiful things from all over, including Scandinavia and the staff are very helpful and friendly. read more

Ever since I first saw Marimekko prints while looking for some mid-century textiles I've been in wuv, twoo wuv. I cannot stress this enough. If Marimekko were a person instead of a company with a gajillion designers (hiiii, Maija Louekari, you're my favorite!) I would get down on one knee and propose. My love is such that I am planning on getting a Pakkanen-inspired tattoo. And I cry myself to sleep every night because I cannot afford to have A Very Marimekko apartment. So what am I to do, apart from staring at my one throw pillow and my one wall hanging? Go to Tuuli. I could spend hours in here, looking at every single print, even the ones I've investigated three million times before. This place is a 100% guaranteed pick-me-up, though I always end up buying only some towels or napkins or other little pieces of beauty. I like this store quite a bit and believe that design legends such as Marimekko should be sought out and supported. Everyone can find a spot for a piece of Scandinavian design in their lives no matter what their taste. The clothes at Pirkko are expensive but well-made; the quality is visible. Better fabric, careful sewing....this is the opposite of thrown-together-cheaply apparel that somehow consumers have come to accept. I don't go for a boxy cut and usually prefer more fitted shapes than Pirkko has, but have still found a couple pieces that I wear over and over. One shop girl is from Sweden; a nice touch. read more

I was killing time in Seattle and thought, "there has got to be a store in this city with some Marimekko." I easily found Tuuli and it was dreamy! Bright, cheerful colors and a large range of Marimekko products; it was just what I wanted. I was specifically looking for some Marimekko knit shirts. They had all that I wanted and more. The young woman working was enthusiastic and helpful, not suspicious or pushy. I ended up only purchasing one shirt, but it was a color combo that I had not been able to find anywhere else because it was seasonal. Score. As for the prices, I found them to be consistent with other vendors for those products and don't think the store should receive fewer stars for charging the going rate for their merchandise. I will mention that Tuuli had a number of items on sale and clearance, so there was quite a range. read more

What a happy store! It was so comforting to see products like Marimekko, Kalevala, iitala, etc from my native country (Finland). I was strolling downtown Seattle when I came across this store on the way to Pike's Brewery. I was so excited that I pulled my boyfriend away from his group of guy friends to join me. The owner, a Finnish woman, was so nice and helpful when it came down to picking a fabric for our wall. I could have probably spent over $2000 in this store, but limited myself to one item. A lot of the products are not usually available in the states so it was nice to see something like this. She has a great collection of Marimekko purses, fabrics, clothes and towels. Was walking along 1st street today when a shot of color to my right caught my eye. I decided to go in to investigate. Imagine my surprise and delight when I see Marimekko fabric stretching from wall to beautiful wall. I've only seen Marimekko stuff on design blogs before this so it was wonderful to see it in person. I loved that you could buy yards of the fabric to take home since buying the actual pre-made bags will cost you an arm and a leg. Can you imagine how much more beautiful every home would be with a Marimekko accent pillow? Sigh, I am totally regretting not buying something today and I hope to return sometime soon. read more

My favorite store in Seattle. I discovered this store last fall while just walking around downtown. I now make it a point to stop in whenever I'm in Seattle on vacation. This store is pretty much wall-to-wall Marimekko, so I felt like I was in heaven. Yes, it's expensive, but Marimekko is *always* expensive. This one of the most colorful shops I've ever been to! Lots of interesting things to touch and try on. I purchased a shirt, a really cute wrap-around dress and a brass pendant/chain. The women who work there are so friendly. The Finnish owner helped me with the jewelry. She happily gave me the meanings of the traditional designs we examined together. I was happy to take my girlfriend there when she visited from out-of-state. She fell in love with the Marimekko fabrics that they carry. This is a fun shop! You should definitely check it out. The Marimekko stuff is beautiful -- although expensive -- and they always have something fun. I think some of the stuff is higher priced than what I'd like to pay, but they usually have stuff on sale. I got a nice designer T-shirt for $30, which I don't think it unreasonable. Their product inventory doesn't change very often -- I saw the same thing there a year after I first saw it there -- but it's worth checking out because the stuff is really nice and very unique. read more

In this world of mass marketing and anonymous internet shopping, it is refreshing to visit Tuuli. They are a small family run store specializing in design from Finland. The bold designs and clean colors of original Marimekko fabrics, clothes, and bags still run strong and modern today. They also carry a wide range of other Finnish design, clothes, accessories, jewelry and home wares. Some other names to look for Aarikka wood beads, iitala glassware, Kalevala bronze and silver jewelry....this little shop is a treasure trove of great design, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a good dose of cheer.
