Had a wonderful dining experience at Pippal, Dublin location. The chat appetizer is freshly prepared in front of you which is sight in itself to watch. Lamb chops were amazing and flavorful. Main course was amazing. Dishes from Paneer Parath, Butter Chicken, Fish curry was absolutely outstanding- every dish was packed with authentic flavors, perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. Garlic and butter naans were very light and fresh. The service was exceptional from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly and made sure we felt welcome and comfortable throughout the evening. What made the experience even more special was when the chef personally came out and we got to meet him. He was incredibly genuine, humble and passionate about his food. A big shoutout to the host/manager as well, who did fantastic job making us feel warm, professional and very accommodating. As a hotelier, I've been trained to notice every little detail, the finish on the walls, the cleanliness, the menu layout, the plating, the service flow. It's just part of my DNA now. On February 26th, I walked into Pippal Dublin for an early dinner at 5:30 pm and I left completely blown away. (did not have a reservation, but they accommodated). From the moment you step in, the ambiance wraps around you like a warm hug from back home. Elegant, refined, and unmistakably Indian without ever feeling over the top. The space is generous too, perfect for intimate dinners, big family gatherings, or even larger celebrations with their private dining area. The menu is thoughtfully balanced between vegetarian and non vegetarian options, with every allergen clearly marked, something I wish more places did. The cocktails are a standout: selective, beautifully inspired by Indian flavors, and presented with quiet elegance. Huge respect to the mixologist. But the food? Whoa!! That's where they truly won my heart. I ordered the prawns, Patthar ka Mutton Kebab, and Parsi Fish Curry, every single dish was cooked with care and packed with flavor. Then came dessert, and I have to be honest, I flew all the way to Jaipur in my mind when I tasted the Ghewar. Perfectly crisp, not a single soggy bite, topped with the most beautiful, naturally sweetened rabri. I also had the Balushahi, both desserts were pure joy. I actually had to call the manager, the incredibly sweet Ms. Bella, and asked if Chef Munish was free. He came out, and the humility and genuine smile on his face said everything. No TV chef ego, just a kind, passionate man who clearly pours his soul into every plate. The entire service team greeted us with warmth and authenticity that felt rare even in India. Every detail was taken care of with pride. Sorry, I somehow cannot recollect the name of the servers. Pippal Dublin is not just another Indian restaurant in the Bay Area. It is a heartfelt piece of home, served with love and excellence. To anyone reading this, please don't be overly critical. We visited yesterday, and honestly, I was not very impressed. The menu is completely different from the one in Emeryville. They seem to have included dishes from various regions, but the flavors did not come together for me. The service was quite slow, even though the restaurant was almost empty since it was a weekday and late evening. It took a long time to even get our drinks from the bar. The prices also seemed unusually high. I am not sure if that is due to tariffs or an attempt to make the place feel more upscale. The lounge music was a bit loud, and surprisingly, none of it was Indian. The manager, who was not Indian, stopped by twice. Once she came to take our order, but when we asked about certain dishes and ingredients, she did not know and had to call the waiter to explain. We walked in excited; this place has been all over Instagram and has glowing reviews, so expectations were sky-high for a "modern Indian fine-dining" experience. What we got was one of the most disappointing Indian meals we've had in the Bay Area. Let's start with the only positive: the ambience is genuinely nice. Beautiful décor, good lighting, comfortable seating; it feels upscale. That's literally the only thing they got right. Food & Service Highlights (or lowlights): - Ordered the **Masala Papad** sampler as a starter. What arrived was plain khakra with some dips. Zero masala, zero crunch of actual papad. When we pointed it out, the server just shrugged and said "that's how we serve it." Cool, then maybe take it off the menu or rename it "Random Crunchy Thing We Found in the Pantry." - Asked if the **Butter Chicken** (or whatever curry we ordered) could be made even mildly spicy. The waiter came back with a straight face and said, "The chef does not take suggestions or alterations to his recipes." Excuse me? I'm paying $28 for this bowl of orange water and I can't even ask for a pinch of chili? Since when is the customer's palate less important than the chef's ego? It felt incredibly rude and pretentious. - Everything was painfully **bland**. Like hospital-food levels of under-seasoned. Even the naan was average. - **Mocktails** were $13 each and tasted like sugary juice with a splash of food coloring. For that price I expect something memorable, not Tropicana with an umbrella. This is not authentic Indian food, it's not even good "fusion." It's just overpriced, underwhelming dishes served with an attitude that says "you should feel lucky to eat the chef's vision." If you want pretty plates and Instagram photos, sure, come here and flex. If you actually want flavorful Indian food that respects centuries of spice and tradition (or at the very least respects the customer), go literally anywhere else. So many better Indian spots in the area that don't charge fine-dining prices for canteen-quality taste. Hugely overrated. Pipal - Dublin, CA The food at Pipal was incredible and delicious. The tableside chaat experience was unique and imaginative, and honestly a highlight of the meal. Everything we ordered was really, really good -- especially the dessert, which stood out the most. From a food perspective alone, I would give this place a 9/10. Unfortunately, the service and overall professionalism completely undermined what could have been a great experience. Our waiter was initially great. When it came time to pay, he asked if I wanted to pay by card and whether it was okay for him to bring the card reader to the table, which I agreed to. The original bill was $131.89 plus tax and tip, but when he ran my card, he entered $149 plus tax, and I then added an 18% tip on top of that. I was confused but didn't push back because the food and service had been good. After we left, my wife realized we had been charged more than the original bill. I chose not to go back in, assuming mistakes happen and that it would work itself out. Later that same day, the restaurant called my wife accusing us of not paying for our meal. I already had a pending charge on my Chase card, so I knew we had paid. I spoke directly to the waiter, explained the situation, and he said, "Oh yeah, now I remember," and apologized for bothering us. They had called using the phone number we provided through OpenTable. Despite this, the restaurant proceeded to call my wife 2-3 more times over the next two days, continuing to accuse us of not paying. I finally answered and explained -- again -- that not only did we pay, but we were actually charged more than our bill, and I didn't dispute it. I told them I had a confirmed credit card transaction from Pipal for $173.66 and asked them to never contact us again. The woman on the phone was rude, dismissive, and continued to accuse us of not paying despite clear proof. This was one of the most unprofessional situations I've ever experienced at a restaurant. We were overcharged, still left an 18% tip, and then were repeatedly harassed and accused of not paying for a meal we clearly paid for. 1 star is solely for the price of the live chaat tray. We did the tray for 4 people which is $42. What you get is a single standard size plate of chaat that has some dry ice yogurt, dhokla, papdi, and sev. They put some chutneys down and then each of those elements, and that's it. $42 for a single plate that I can get legitimately at any other place (Even other high end restaurants), for no more than $25. The food is fine. Realistically, it tastes good. This was my 2nd time coming and many of the dishes like the paneer ones were actually good and comparable to other restaurants. We had the most delicious meals at Pippal. Our family loved the Prawn pepper fry and Pathar ke Kabab the most. We also loved all our entrees, especially the Laal Maas and Saoji Chicken. The best part of the restaurant is all the differentu regional dishes. The Burrah Kebab was hands down the best lamb chop I've ever had--perfectly cooked, smoky, and incredibly tender. The Pathar ke Kebab was just as impressive,. The Live Chaat was the surprise standout--fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced with sweet, tangy, spicy, and crunchy notes. I visited Pippal a couple of months ago and tried Chakri Paneer, Malai Kofta, East India Butter Chicken, Bhopali Pulao, and Garlic Naan. Chakri Paneer was excellent (5/5) -- full of flavor and perfectly prepared. Malai Kofta was also outstanding (5/5), rich and well balanced. The East India Butter Chicken was decent (3.5/5); the gravy tasted slightly unusual and a bit heavy -- possibly due to magaj -- which made it less enjoyable for me. Bhopali Pulao was good (3.5/5), nicely spiced. Garlic Naan was perfect (5/5) -- soft, fresh, and well made. One very positive aspect is that they're bringing cuisines from different regions of India, which is refreshing and unique for the area. Overall, a good experience with some standout dishes.
