The pizza was terrible. Biscuit crust with cheap cold cuts. Flavorless sauce. The cheese was glommed together. It was freezing in there. Many patrons were uncomfortable with the chill. The service is super nice. You wanna go where everybody knows your name. Small community feel. Hockey fans for sure. It's nice to get off whyte ave for a change. Only one 0% beer to choose. Limited taps. $5.75 is great for a pint. Game day specials. Prize draws. Outdoor patio would be great in Summer. Large parking lot. read more

I order pizza from this joint once a week. Phenomenal old fashioned great value pizza.

We order pizza from here quite often. Thick tasty crust, flavourful sauce and lots of gooey yummy cheese. Absolutely delicious. Last time I ordered a clubhouse sandwich, and that was also very tasty. I was told that they roast a turkey each day in the kitchen by the bartender. I believe it! Speaking of the bartenders, service is excellent. The staff are friendly with a good sense of humour. Last time we stepped out for a smoke, and the bartender brought our food out to us as soon as it was ready. There was one time we had an issue with the pizzas we ordered, and the staff exceeded our expectations in making it right. Great service and great food at Pipers. read more

Good place for a quick, quite meal. Nothing special about the food, just your average privately owned restaurant. Decor is truck stoppish. Server was friendly but a bit unprepared. Had to ask for everything that shoulda been brought to the table. But she was very friendly and talkative with the children. Pizza was good, better than the 73's and hut's, tons of cheese. Fries were good, burger patties looked fresh and tasted good. A better place to stop than the mcD's that's across the street. We'll be back, maybe not for a special occasion but definitely on one of those lazy days. read more

I came here a couple times last week on a friend's recommendation. This is a typical family style private restaurant. I came here for lunch and supper with a friend. The first time I had their pepperoni and mushroom pizza, it was very good and tasty. Although it took about 15 minutes to arrive, I suppose good pizza takes a bit to prepare. It wasn't anything special, but was thick and cheezy and hit the spot for lunch. The second time I had their donair and fries. The donair was ok but there wasn't enough meat in it, so I wouldn't have it again. My friend had their BBQ quarter chicken with mashed potatoes. He asked for gravy on the side and it came on top of the potatoes - not a huge deal, but still. The chicken was very average as there was more bone than chicken. As for the coffee, it is undrinkable and weak, definitely a not recommend, go for the ice tea it is a bit better. The service was a bit on the slow side, and they don't have wifi or wireless debit terminal, you have to get up and pay near the door. The clientele is definitely older as both times there were lots of seniors, so I supposed the wifi is not a high demand service there, but will keep me from coming in at busy times. Overall, this place is just "ok", a nice change from a chain. They have been there for many years so they must have a few dishes that are good. I will try a pasta dish next time to see if it is worth coming back for after that. read more

Baba & Gido friendly. Flamingos is actually one of my favourite Baba & Gido friendly restaurants because the menu is varied and has stuff I like too. Try the souvlaki, Mediterranean lasagna or salmon. Or pizza if you're so inclined (I think its nothing special but it's better than Pizza Hut or Pizza 73). For Baba & Gido, there's fish & chips, chicken fingers, club house sandwiches, veal cutlet etc. Gido likes the fries but I don't (disclaimer - I don't actually like fries very much so don't take my word for it). The soups are usually not very good. They tend to be starchy and not very interesting. Since I love soup, I judge restaurants by their soups so this is a problem for me. Try asking for a side salad instead. Service is usually quite good so be sure to have some extra loonies in case you need to add something to Baba & Gido's tip (in case of emergency under tipping situations). read more

Good food for a family restaurant that had a long history Went for brunch here for the first time in 15 or more years. Service was good, food was good for a family restaurant and the ambiance is what you would expect from a restaurant of its age and style. Been going to the west end location since I was a kid. My husband and I went to the southside location twice recently. Found the food just as amazing. I hate greek pizza usually but at flamingos I could live on it. Also a must try is there baked pasta and meat sause its to die for! read more

Multiple items over the past 35 years - I have been eating at Flamingo's for 35 years. I first began eating at the Centennial Mall location in 1978, then I starting eating at the 87 Ave. location several years later. I now live on the southside and eat at the 21st Ave location. Food the past several years has really gone downhill; the cooks and staff don't seem to give a dam about customer service or quality of food served. Last week my wife and I ate at the south-side location (23 Ave.) and while service was good, the food was sloppily made and it showed the cook did not care how his food went out. My wife ordered the hot roast beef. When it arrived the water from the under cooked vegetables had soaked the barely toasted bread under the roast beef. The gravy tastes like raw flour and a premixed powder combined to make a bland watered down paste. I ordered the meat lovers pizza and was totally disappointed on how the cook made it; the ground beef in the pizza might as well have been a powder. What really disappointed me was that all the toppings were under the cheese, so tasted like they were poached. I like this restaurant and used to think they had some of the best pizza in town. They need a new cook who can have some pride in the food served. When this family run restaurant first opened I would give it a 9 out 10, but now it is hard to give them a 3 out 10. read more

If I could leave a negative one (-1) star review, I would. This is not just from one visit, it's from a few interactions, from phone inquiries to actual dining experiences. I rarely leave a crappy review ANYWHERE, but even sitting at the table with my husband, I told him this review would be happening. This place used to be called Flamingos, and we had been there many times--always a good experience. This new Piper's staff is unprofessional, rude and, at times, politely-patronizing at best. The main daytime server (Trevor, I think) has regulars who he seems to treat like old friends (he can be overheard asking them, by name, to come back), and then there are those he treats as though we've shown up at his house uninvited & unannounced. [This guy is burly with dark hair & a beard. Acts like he owns the place. Maybe he does. *shudder*] The first time he served us we figured maybe he was just having a douche-y day, and overlooked it. The most recent visit was even worse to the point that I feel compelled to write this review. I don't want to say he seems 'intolerant' of certain 'groups' of people, but you can go there and judge for yourself. Any people I've gone with have been polite, friendly, and respectful. If only I could say the same of him. Sorry, Piper's, but not only will we never return, but we won't even make a delivery order, as we were so offended by this individual. Piper's management: Perhaps you answer these posts but I'm not about to check back to see what's been said. Just know how atleast a few of your (past) patrons have been treated. I can't complain about other staff specifically except to say that there have been a couple of females who have answered your phone or handed over a to-go order who also seemed to be impositioned by the interruption to their day. I don't have names or know if they are even still there. I may put a call in to the manager to voice all of this, but I don't, honestly, want to spend more of my life on this place. I only even went this far because if I were considering going there, and checked reviews online, I'd want this info before making my decision. Cheers read more
