Coliseum has been around 50 years and generally just "knows" how to cook great food. Nothing TOO fancy, just excellent steaks, past and what you would expect from a good restaurant. We were there last night and they had "steak and lobster" on special. I haven't had lobster for about 30years, so decided on the special. When it arrived, sadly it appeared that they "broil" the lobster. Generally, boiling/poaching cooks it slowly, and keeps it moist like a little cloud of deliciousness. Some people LOVE broiling. I should have checked. Broiling (particularly when the place is packed - like it was - and I imagine they have to crank out a couple hundred of them) generally overcooks the outside and removes a lot of moisture. The steak (as usual) was great, and all the expected sides (baked potato etc.). The drink was great, and we laughed for hours (our gorgeous friend's birthday). We've been there many times (live a few minutes away). I've never - until last night - been disappointed. The birthday girl was having a great time so I just ate the dried out lobster with some extra butter (I like to add some Worcestershire sauce to it). Another great meal at Coliseum Pizza and Steak. We met a friend. She had the steak, I had the pork ribs (which I didn't take a photo of...oops), and my husband had the meat pizza. Server was friendly and quick. it wasn't so busy at a lunch on a Tuesday. Place is dated but seems like it belongs there. It reminds me of a grandma who loves the Oilers (who frequented there in the 80s) basement. Food was delicous. I snagged a few bites of my husbands pizza which was excellent. I don't ever order meat lovers, but I would order it there. It wasn't greasy but with the right amount of meat. My pork ribs were delicous and saucy and they fell off the bone. I per usual ordered the baked potato and I had a starter of soup. it was tomato cabbage and even though it doesn't sound exciting it was delicious. No room for dessert this time. We stopped for a quick bite on a Saturday evening after not being in this neighbourhood for years, and the restaurant was very busy. Since we were strapped for time, we ordered a Greek Salad and Calamari to share. The salad was excellent... crisp greens, nice assortment of peppers, tomatoes, olives, cheese and onion with a great dressing. The calamari was just okay but the standout for us was the incredible service and the great atmosphere. It was a little loud but the noise was of people enjoying their companions and their meals. There are long-standing mainstay type of restaurants and then there's Edmonton's beloved Coliseum Steak & Pizza. Open since 1976 and named after the Coliseum arena in which the Oilers played from 1974-2016 (and located a mere six blocks away), it's easy to imagine the deep roots that this restaurant shares with its community. Every part 70s steakhouse, not much has changed in nearly 50 years. The restaurant still serves as a gathering place for hockey enthusiasts and the players themselves are still known to dine there, as they always have. But there's more going on here than just sports. Edmonton Journal named Coliseum S&P Best Overall Restaurant 2023, proving that the legend lives on through the generations. I'd only ever visited once before, many years ago, and as I made my way over to 118th Ave in the Parkdale area I was reminded of what this part of the city used to symbolize. The Avenue of Champions. The Edmonton Oilers did win five almost-consecutive Stanley Cups in the 1980s, after all. And there Coliseum Steak & Pizza was, in the heart of it all. I can almost feel what that energy must have been like and it still lives within the walls of the restaurant. Their lit-up signage shines down the avenue like a beacon. I arrived early on a Saturday evening, around 5pm, and the place was packed. And it remained packed. It only got more packed. Everyone seems to know something and it's time that I did too. Walking into the space, the walls are steeped in hockey lore and the servers are seasoned and friendly. You certainly get the sense that much of the decor has been untouched since the 70s, and frankly I wouldn't have it any other way. There is honey-hued wood for as far as the eye can see, carpet on the floor, and archways that probably seemed very fancy at the time of their construction. There's also a mural of the actual Colosseum in Rome. The dining room is quite large and they always seem to have room for more. And of course there's a big screen at one end of the room because they wouldn't want you to miss the game. (Honestly, this has gotta be the best place to watch hockey other than the arena itself.) Once settled in I was surprised to find a rather large drink menu full of cocktails. On second thought; the 70s loves a cocktail. I ordered a Coliseum Sangria (Red wine, cherry brandy, orange and cranberry juices with a splash of 7-Up - $9.95) because anything with the restaurant's name in it is probably a solid bet. (This was about to become a theme.) This beverage was very big and very dangerous because it tased like juice. I loved it! It was almost like a shirley temple, except for grown ups with some alcohol in the mix. I might have enjoyed this more than I should have but it was really delicious and easy to drink. I do have questions about the Coliseum Special Coffee and what's in Uncle Peter's secret blend of liqueurs... The food menu is pretty big and of course there's a lot of steak and pizza on it. There are also things like burgers and a surprising amount of seafood. It's definitely not pub food but it's likely what pub food wishes it could be. Once the food was ordered it took almost no time at all before a chorus of plates arrived at the table. One of the meals that we ordered came with a garden salad which we upgraded to a starter Caesar Salad (Romaine, parmesan, seasoned croutons, and bacon bits, tossed in our famous, homemade caesar dressing) for an additional $4.95 and this arrived first. A caesar salad in a steakhouse just feels like the right thing to do and it was love at first bite! What seemed like a fairly standard salad was made better by the fact that I could taste that their dressing truly was homemade and done the real way. The flavour from the anchovies was present, adding their saltiness. The bacon bits were actual real bacon. The croutons tasted fresh and housemade. No corners were cut and it makes all the difference. What could've been a pretty standard salad was made so much better by simply making it right. I also really enjoyed the small chop of the romaine lettuce which made the salad easy to eat and share. I think that this is the best casear salad in the city. As an appetizer of sorts I was intrigued by their "loaves" which I assumed was something like a sandwich? It was time to find out by way of the Coliseum Loaf (Pepperoni, salami, ham, onion, tomato sauce, and mozzarella, all baked in a sesame roll - $13.95) Not that I assumed otherwise, but this loaf was such a hit. Everyone at my table agreed that it was the biggest surprise of the meal. Every ingredient is perfection and works so well with the next. The trio of meats are flavourful and piled high, the crunchy onion (which I don't typically like) added such a welcome element to the sandwich, the cheese was melty and gooey, and I absolutely loved the soft yet crusty sesame bread. I honestly wish I could give more than 5 stars.. this is one of the most underestimated restaurants in the city in my opinion. We were looking for somewhere to go for our anniversary. We love steak, but wanted to try something other than The Keg and Chop, which are kind of the standards for us. Coliseum has been around forever - I think I probably went there when I was younger, but definitely not in a long time. When you walk in, you're transported back to the steak houses of the 80s. Not much has changed inside over the decades. But everything is clean and well organized. Service was incredibly friendly. Our server seemed like she had been working in restaurants for a long time. She never wrote anything down, but quite clearly knew what she was doing, and got everything exactly right. Food came out of the kitchen hot and quick. Steaks were cooked PERFECTLY. Honestly, I think it was the best steak I've ever had. Everything was seasoned so well, and I love that they still do the old style condiment caddy for the baked potato toppings. Gluten Free Option available I'm pretty sure my family visited this restaurant when I was a kid, but I had never visited as an adult, but that changed 18DEC2023. My husband and I went for dinner. The menu doesn't list what options are gluten-free, but our waitress was more than happy to check with the kitchen what was "safe" for me. I got the House Special 8 oz Top Sirlion and subbed a baked potato for the spaghetti and a Greek salad for the garden salad and obviously skipped the garlic toast being a Celiac I dded Mushrooms. It was a perfect medium. We will definitely be back. The decor seems like it hasn't changed since they opened, but I was there for the food, not the looks. read more

We ordered a special pizza large and a lasagna based on previous reviews as well as our long term patronage. This was hands down the worst pizza We had in our long life. when we were pretty young we bought a pizza mix in a box. We used the pizza as a frisbee. That is what this pizza was like. When she showed it to me it looked smaller than a large and somehow off but I took it anyway. Too much the typical polite Canadian in me. However After 36 years going to this location I will never go there again it was a complete waste of money. They are nowhere's near the Quality place they used to be. I've been eyeing this place up for quite awhile now, every time I drive past I wondered about it. We had a lovely server and we were a bit pinched for time but at 8pm on a a Thursday there was plenty of open seating and the service was incredibly fast! We ordered the ribs and shrimp as well as the calamari salad. The salad was super neat with a Greek salad and calamari with tasty taziki! And the portion was great! The ribs came out way faster than we anticipated but they were very good and interestingly it came with some cut up bread instead of fries. Prices were about average for what I would expect and the menu would be a good fit for a family dinner out kind of place. read more

So this place one of those places you can take your parents or grand parents. It's family friendly but I feel it hasn't changed in years same menu. My steak was cooked well and to the right temp but no real seasoning on it. no option for poutine for the fries. We visited this place 3 nights ago, and I can't stop thinking about the food. Honestly, the best steak I've had anywhere ever. Much better than the Keg, or Morton's, or Ruth Chris! I had been unfairly dismissing this place on our semi annual pilgrimage to Edmonton the past 20 years (hubby was born and raised there), but now it made it onto our must go places each visit. It's unassuming, not trendy, not fancy, no need to dress up kinda place but the food is OMG! Excellent food! I had the house Merlot which was very good, side Caesar salad which was good, fresh nothing special but hey it's just a side dish, the 8 oz filet cooked just under medium, loaded baked potato, and blueberry cheesecake. Great care appears to be taken to the cut and trim, aging, and cooking of the steak. The filet was perfectly trimmed, no fat on it at all, which is how I like my filet, it was shaped and cut even, was juicy and tender. There was no residue blood on the plate even though it was just a smidge under medium. I can't stand places where the stake bleeds onto the plate and to the potatoes. I'm not sure how they do it here but the steak was still rare enough but not bleeding. It was buttery soft melt in your mouth yummy. Baked potato was just the right size and well cooked. Not too big, not too small, and not grainy. Hubby had the beef and onion pizza and he ate the whole thing, which typically doesn't happen, so that tells me it was excellent. The blueberry cheesecake was unexpectedly amazing! I wish I didn't have to share it. The other couple in our party equally enjoyed their steak, pizza, desert and were raving about it. We had no reservations and just walked in. Front staff were friendly and attentive. Server was good overall, we had refills when we needed, and she was there when we needed her, she was not overly friendly but we didn't go there to make friends. I didn't remember taking pictures in the moment that's how surprisingly good it was. I highly recommend this place if you are in Edmonton and craving a good steak and good pizza. This place offers cozy comfort food for a reasonable price. The portions are big and food was delicious. I ordered the house special steak with mushrooms on top. For around $26, it came with steak grilled to your liking, pasta, salad and garlic toast. I was so full afterwards and it was a very satisfying meal. This pizza and steak joint has been around since the early 80's.. the decor hasnt changed much, so it's like stepping back in time. Service is super friendly and place has an ambiance that's warm and inviting. They had a New York steak special tonight with buttered mushrooms which came out nicely seasoned and comparable in execution to high end steakhouses. I swapped out the side of fries/baked potato with spaghetti and homemade meat sauce for my toddler who made quick of messy work of it lol! Thr side of clam chowder was tasty and had a good handful of clams in it. We also went with the Coliseum special pizza (added pineapple for the toddler) which was a nice thick crust pizza loaded with toppings. Haven't been here for awhile. Every time I go I am reminded how much I love it. Consistent menu, good service, lots of parking, old school decor and most importantly great steaks cooked to perfection. I enjoy the simple Baked potato and how the garnishes come in a little tray doled out by the server. The garlic toast is fresh and buttery, served hot and crunchy. I'm always on the lookout for a good pizza place and since we were headed to the Eskimos/Riders game, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to check this place out! When we arrived it was PACKED, but thankfully we didn't have to wait (at all). The restaurant is quite large and there were a lot of Saskatchewan Roughrider fans (myself included) enjoying a meal before the game. I ordered a coffee and we got a large 3 meat pizza. Unfortunately with it being so busy, my coffee cup sat empty for awhile. The pizza arrive in a reasonable amount of time, fresh from the oven & piping hot. The pizza was very good, no complaints! I loved the chewy crust with the crispy/cheese edge. There were a decent amount of toppings, tasty sauce and lots of cheese. Perfect. Our waitress was extremely busy, but took the time to compliment my Rider jersey and apologized for being so busy. She was very sweet and was clearly busting her ass to trying to do a good job. While we were waiting for our food I saw a lot of delicious food coming from the kitchen. The steak & shrimp looked delish! Old school dining at its finest - from decor to menu offerings, this is a throwback to the 70's/80's. That said, I quite enjoyed myself here. The food isn't fancy - which is a funny thing to say about a steakhouse - but it's hearty and wholesome. The menu is a nostalgic reminder of the ridiculousness of the past (ex. The appetizer combo for 2 had a million things on it...including a RACK OF RIBS! Whaaa? Who starts with that?? Not going to lie. We were so very tempted.) Tried a steak and it was heavily seasoned with a good amount of fat on it. Yum!! Came with a starter salad (we went with clam chowder for an extra charge), a heavily buttered piece of garlic bread (tasted like it was buttered, toasted, and then drenched in margarine. Basically, amazing.) and a baked potato. A server comes to the table with all the condiments (butter, sour cream, bacon, chives) and loads you up. Fun! Also tried their signature pizza and it was also pretty good. Crispy bottom but a bit soggy towards the middle, and loaded with toppings. Not the best pizza in town, but it was decent. I tried Coliseum Pizza and Steak house for the first time and I want to say how impressed I was with this restaurant. My bfs mom mentioned to me that she use to come here for food with her sister and it was one of their favourite restaurants in the city. I have driven by this restaurant many times, but this is the first time that I went in for food. What have I been missing?!?! I ordered the steak ofcourse and it was DELICIOUS! Service was also fast and waitress was friendly. This place has been own and run by the same owners for a very long time and they take pride in their food and you can definitely feel it. I came here for a business lunch and it wasn't too busy. It did fill up with more customers during my visit but it was never packed nor too noisy. We were seated towards the back where it was slightly raised from the rest of the restaurant. They pushed 2 tables together to fit us all. The server was attentive and friendly to bring us our drinks, take our order, and check on our food. I found the lunch menu a little limiting as I didn't want pizza, salad, or steak but then again, I am at a pizza and steak restaurant! I decided on the Coliseum loaf but asked for light cheese as I think it stated it came with 2 cheeses. It was on a toasted sesame bun and cut in 4 pieces. There was pizza topping meat inside, I can't remember it all, but I should have known it would be a bit too salty for my liking. I can't even recall if there was any cheese in it. The sandwich was ok and I think next time, I would stick with ordering pizza as I'm not a big steak eater. If we had another meeting here, I wouldn't mind but wouldn't make a special trip for a meal here. read more

Well I picked up a pizza for take out. Have heard a ton about this place. I decided to go with the coliseum special which is shrimp all of pepperoni green peppers mushrooms etc. The large-size about 27 bucks and it was awesome. Really crispy thick crust pan pizza. A bit pricey, but that's what you get for home made. Is also very thick way more toppings and your typical delivery pizza place. Definitely a great pizza and I will try to get back here before and we were game to check with the atmosphere that I read some of the reviews. Many years ago, I remembered going for dinner here before the Foo Fighters concert. I ordered pizza and it was amazing. We went again a couple years ago, and it was STILL amazing. It has been a little while, but we wanted to celebrate Mothers Day a day early and hubby asked me where I wanted to go. I do like chinese food for a celebration, but Coliseum Pizza & Steak was on my mind, so we decided to drive into Edmonton. No reservations, but we must have timed it perfectly, because we were seated in a matter of minutes. I had my usual Hawaiian Pizza and it was awesome - exactly like I remember. It's rare when a restaurant has such consistent great quality over years and years! My hubby loved his shrimp and our son was so impressed with his 12 oz top sirloin - medium rare - that he devoured every single bite. He said the garlic toast was great too! If you want to go old school throw back to 1984 steak and pizza...this is your place. The decor of this joint hasn't changed one bit, old wood trim, those kinda beige leather chairs, and even a few team pics of the Oilers from the glory days of the 80's. The food is actually really good, and reasonably priced compared to most other "steakhouses" in the city. I ordered the beef ribs while the gf had to try a shrimp and mushroom pizza. The ribs show up and I knew it was going to be a sight...basically a Flintstone sized plate of cow and bone with fries and garlic bread. My lady looked frightened...the ribs were very flavourful and by the time I was done, I swore off food for 24 hours. Her pizza was delish as well, pretty typical pie for a place such as this, definitely homemade sauce and lots of toppings. Sometimes on a cold night you just want the comfort of a rustic place that will feed you right. This is the best spot in town for that kinda dinner. Fine dining it isn't, but sometimes you just need a steak and a beer... Oh did I mention it was packed...usually a good sign, especially with no arena next door to bolster sales on a game night. This did create some pretty suspect service though, tough to get a second drink etc. I felt like our server was a bit burnt out just going through the motions. We went here yesterday before the last Oilers home game of the 2009/2010 season. The place was packed, as we expected, but there was only one couple in front of us, so we were hopeful. The hostess told us that we could be sat right away, but we would have to sit with another couple that would be coming later. I asked how long we would have to wait if we didn't want to share table and she bluntly said "7" (the game started at 7:30). I was hesitant but agreed, and was not happy about it. We got to our table and sat down. I really couldn't believe that they would cram people in to the point of sharing tables with other strangers just for an extra couple of bucks. I was really peeved by this. No one was at the table, but every time a hostess walked by with 2 people, I thought - oh crap. No one ever came to join our table, but the fact that we were even asked "just in case" showed me how money hungry this business was. We ordered and our food took forever! I guess that is to be expected because the place was packed, but it was over 20 minutes for a medium steak sandwich and a half vegetarian loaf. Our food finally arrived, and Ryan's pathetic little steak, potato and garlic bread was sure a rip off for $18.00. He was so disappointed when he cut into his steak and it was well done. I enjoyed my food, but it was nothing special really. We left feeling neglected as customers and disappointed as food lovers. We will go back, hoping that it was maybe an off night, but the nostalgia of this place has truly changed for me. read more
