There was a lot of hits and misses with this place. I am in the hospital with a very sick kiddo and my friend offered to take me out for a lunch break (it was my birthday the day before). The decore was nice but not rememberable. It was fairly basic. Service was okay but again not memorable. She did her job, but wasn't what I call friendly. Food was a big hit and miss. First the good. The Asparagi e Patate salad which consisted of Fire roasted asparagus, kale and potatoes with dijon grainy mustard and white balsamic dressing, topped with a med-boiled egg, parmigiano Reggiano and truffle oil It was probably the best salad I have had all year. Fresh, flavourful and tasty. We also split two pizzas. Super disappointing. Look at the so called toppings on the. Skimpy. The crust was good but I was shocked on how much they charged for a couple pieces of sausage. Probably won't go there again for the price they charge. I will probably stick to the cafeteria food in the hospital. At least you know what you are in for. read more

Overall a great date night. A small and cozy atmosphere with welcoming staff. The parking lot is annoying but once you're inside, that's forgotten. The appetizer was unbelievable. We got the cheese with this jalapeño jam. The cheese would melt onto the bread, but the highlight was the jam. The cool jam with hot cheese pairs well, then the heat of the jalapeños comes after. Would buy a jar of it for sandwiches at home. The only problem was the bread was so thick, took away our apatite. Pizza was solid. We could have shared one after the appetizer but we both enjoyed our selection. They bring parm, flakes and chili oil to the table which is a nice touch. Wonderful experience in every way, the pizza is made fresh with lots of unique toppings, and you can get vegan cheese! The drinks are to die for from non alcoholic ones made with fresh herbs and grapes, to wonderful alcoholic drinks that are superb! For olive lovers, don't forget to order the olives before your meal... they start the night off right! Love the ambience here, it's cozy and yet upscale! The owner is a hard worker and friendly. He can be having the worst day getting curveballs thrown at him, and yet still be professional, joyful, and friendly. He's the reason this business thrives! The food was so good I almost cried oh my day. and the gelato is some of the best I've ever had, granted i haven't had much gelato but it was really good. The servers and bartender was so kind; the service was fantastic and they didn't bother me by coming to our table more than necessary, it was the perfect amount of checking in. Rosso Pizzeria on 109 Street (just south of the High Level Bridge)had been for a very long time a restaurant I wanted to go to and try out their pizza!! It was definitely worth the wait - I had the margarita pizza, which was thin crust and fire baked, was absolutely amazing and delicious!!! Definitely my kind of pizza. I had a cappuccino and a gelato for desert. The drink menu is very complete, just as the food menu is; salads, pizza and pastas, as well as a full gelato bar and flavours to choose from. Last but not least, service was very good, friendly, professional and fast. The inside is very charming, well lit and not too loud, and the terrace in the summer is quite nice (I've never sat on the terrace, but people I've seen did seem to enjoy)!! I have to say, the pizza is ELITE and the portions for the pasta (weekly special) was very huge and filling. The tables were a little small and tight that sometimes we can overhear the conversations from others but other than that, the pollo tropical pizza and classic margherita pizza was top tier. I come here ALOT!. The food is always fantastic with good service... I can't say enough about their happy hour. Very good prices on select items. They make the best homemade soup you can imagine. I call ahead to see what the soup of the day is and if they have any left. Trust me they run out. All of the time. Everything on the menu comes from a really great base of ingredients and a chef who knows what they're doing with them. Go for the happy hour. I love the vibe, presentation, menu, and staff at Rosso! The hunnybunny has been digging on their pizza, and keto me has been going after their rapini e salsiccia (broccoli and sausage). There's a great selection of pizza (each as flavorful as the last) as well as salads and other healthies. The owner is personable and the staff have been prompt, conversational, and quick to return food from the pass. The kitchen has occasionally been slammed, as happens, but the results have been worth the wait. (Strangely, there's no bread and butter offered here.) One star taken off because of the on-going perception that it's just a bit too pricey; we can't shake the feeling, and it retards our return rate, and that's not a nice thing. read more

My wife and I joined two other couples here for "reunion" - hadn't seen one couple for about 40 years. We enjoyed some good adult beverages and a couple of pizzas from the limited "happy hour" menu. The pizza was good and with the pricing at happy hour a very good value. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. We got there about 4:30pm, and by about 5:30pm things got very busy and there was a line of people waiting to get a table. Overall a good experience and a place we'd consider going again. read more

I don't go for pizza very often because the options aren't that great in town but hey, might as well continue the search right? Cue in Rosso Pizzeria which specializes in thin crust pizzas. We came on a Sunday for dinner and I was surprised to see that the place was busy. The inside is sleek, urban and modern and you can peer into the back to see the pizza oven. The bar is stuck smack in the middle of the restaurant; it gives off a segregated, almost cramped feel to things, which is quite unfortunate. There's a display case up front that houses a few pastries and gelato. Oh man, GELATO! You can even get it to go in two container sizes ($12.00 small and $22.00 large) - Mozzarella bufala ($15.00) - I wish they would have warmed up and toasted the crostini. The mozzarella bufala was smooth but you only get four pieces. For the price, I'd pass on it. - Margherita ($14.00) - the margherita tells a lot about whether a pizzeria is legit. Rosso's version was decent but the middle of the pizza was soggy and the sauce wasn't balanced. - Funghi misti ($17.00) - you can instantly taste the white truffle oil, which everyone loved. - Kale saltati ($16.50) - the artichoke was nicely roasted and added a sweetness to the pizza. The ricotta didn't add much though, it was almost tasteless. - Di mama ($16.50) - this one was more "herby" but I appreciated the balance in flavours. The crust for all the pizzas were light, crispy and had a good chewy texture to them. Only the margherita was soggy in the middle but I wish they had spread out the pizzas more evenly for us rather than all four pizzas coming out at once. They get cold fast. - Coconut, cherry garcia and pistachio gelato ($4.75 small and $6.25 large + $0.75 for waffle cone) - we decided to all get gelato. Best decision ever. I counted 14 types and we sampled a couple before deciding. Finally a solid place to get dessert! The pistachio was unreal and I was pleasantly surprised by my cherry garcia. You can tell the gelato is freshly made with real ingredients. I tasted real pieces of coconut, cherry and pistachio in each flavour. Excellent. While the food was good, like everything in Edmonton, Rosso Pizzeria is overpriced. Their lunch pizzetta deal ($9.50) is half size but much more reasonable. Other than that, go and get the gelato. This little place near UofA has authentic style thin crust Italian pizza as well as a variety of other options. They have a small parking lot that fills up quickly, so you will probably have to park elsewhere during busy hours. I came for lunch on a Saturday and decided to try the pizza which I'd heard was great. It's about a 12 inch size so great to share, or plenty of leftovers. They also serve teas from Remedy Cafe across the street. I tried the Di Mama pizza with added hot Italian sausage; it was very good, but it was also $21.50 which is a bit steep in my opinion. Blaze pizza is comparable quality, albeit less authentic Italian style, for almost half that price. I would probably try this place again if I'm in the area but I think I would try something other than the pizza; in my opinion it's good, but just not worth that price. read more

This is my second time going to Rosso Pizzeria for dinner & it didn't disappoint! My friend and I headed there after work. Parking can be an issue but I'm usually able to find street parking a few blocks away. I really enjoy Rosso as it has a laid back vibe and grabbing a table isn't an issue. We ordered two pizzas - Funghi Misti & Prosciutto Cotto. It was plenty of food and we were able to take a few slices home. I have also had the Kale Caesar salad at prior visits. It's a good starter for 2-3 people. Although I didn't have the gelato this visit (it was -10), I highly recommend it! read more

Rosso is one of my favorite pizza places in Edmonton. I went there last night for dinner with co-workers and neither of my friends had ever tried it before. They loved their food and are already talking about coming back. There is a small patio outside of rosso and they also have patio seating. My friend and I ordered pizza: the gamberi, margherita and funghi misti. All were delicious! The crust is thin and slightly flaky and tastes great with chili oil. The toppings were flavorful and I especially loved the mushrooms with truffle oil on the funghi misti. We finished off with gelato which is definitely a must. Their classic vanilla bean is one I always go back for. They have a variety of gelato: coconut, chai, salted caramel, dark chocolate and pistachio to name a few. If u like traditional Italian pizzas with thins crust and minimal toppings then you have to try these guys pizza. We had the potatoe pancetta pizza and it was my FAV! Highly recommend. Also tried the panini salsiccia and too was good but I liked the potatoe pizza was better. Had the Salsiccia because I am a huge fan of house made fennel sausage from other places (Local downtown), but was vastly disappointed at this order! The crust was dry and flavourless (like biting into cardboard) and the ingredients scarce and poorly dispersed (see pic). The fennel sausage was flavourful, but the rest of the ingredients were low quality compared to other neopolitan wood fired places. For the price of $17.50 it left us feeling extremely dissatisfied! The overall dining experience was poor as well, due to our server being inattentive and pretentious at most times. We went with a group of six and ordered the bruschetta and antipasto board on her recommendation and the bruschetta came out in 4 pieces so two people in our group never got to even try it... The bread that came with the antipasto was burned and tasted like ashes! The only thing good about this place was the dessert menu as everyone unanimously enjoyed their choices (gelatos were the best!) Don't go here unless you enjoy being disappointed and paying through your nose for horrible food. Go here for dessert only AFTER you have dined at ANOTHER pizza place! This was my first visit to Rosso Pizzeria and Wine Bar. It is located on the south side in the former diCapo spot on 109 st, just north of the Garneau theatre. The new owner, Dave, promises lots of great changes to the inside and shared fabulous ideas! I look forward to many return visits here. This is the perfect place to share a bottle of vino and plates of charcuterie and cheeses. Nibble away the evening sitting on their patio, sipping wine while people watching. Almost like being back in Europe! The food is delicioso! I sampled many pizzas, each tastier than the next. The pizzas are hand tossed in the traditional Neapolitan style. Thin crusted and topped with fresh herbs, thin meats & seafood, and lovely cheeses, including "a to die for" house made Ricotta! The Fior di Latte Mozzarella they use is SUPERB and blends with the other toppings magnificently. In the cheese plate, it offers a great accompaniment to the various charcuteries and fig jam. They also serve a great variety of crostinis, and not your over-served Bruschetta either! (See photos) And let's not forget the GELATO! Lots and lots of gelato. Wonderful flavours such as Panna Cotta, Licorice, Peach, Nutella, Bacci, Strawberries and Bananas, Cinnamon, Chocolate, etc etc etc Mmm!!! I highly recommend you make Rosso your next pizza stop. I have found my Home Away From Home! For me Da Capo was always a solid 4stars. Then they closed down, renovated, went from a nice cafe to a stunning forno oven pizzeria and Italian cafe all in one! All the elements of the previous cafe that made it awesome are still in place (ie the gelato and excellent cappuccino machine!) But now it has a sophisticated elegance to it. With the renovations came the addition of reclaimed marble from the CN Tower that is in place as the bar top as well as a fabulous floor to ceiling shelving unit at the front door that houses the wood for the pizza oven. Also, reclaimed wood from discarded wine barrels make up the table tops, and they are so cool, I wish I could have one of these in my house!! Throw in some chic urban light installations, a floating glass wine wall and boom, you have yourselves one heck of a cool space! Oh, and ya the Zza is awesome; thin, crispy, hot, cheesy with authentic toppings.... Lets just say it's good enough to get this girl in 3 times in the last week! read more

Today was my first visit to Rosso and I am sad....sad that I waited so long! I loved everything about Rosso. The decor is rustic, yet hip and there is all different kinds of seating. It's a very comfortable setting. The food was FANTASTIC. I am happy as long as food is fresh and homemade and Rosso hit the mark. I had the tomato soup which had small chunks of asiago and parmesan in it and was topped with a tiny bit of shaved chocolate. Yes, chocolate! It really complimented the tomato nicely and was very subtle. I also had the chickpea salad that bursted with flavour from fresh parsley and sun-dried tomatoes. I found the meal to be very well priced and the service was great. I will be returning to Rosso very soon! read more

This place is super trendy (they have jars for water!). I really did enjoy the decor though. The service was efficient and quick although I came here on Canada Day so it was incredibly busy. I ordered the mushroom and truffle oil pizza, with wild mushrooms, mozzarella fior di latte , roasted garlic, taleggio cheese, and fresh parsley. It was delicious and perfect. My ideal pizza has a bit of a crunch, is so hot that the cheese is still melted, and has a bit of a 'kick'.. something special! For this pizza, it was the flavour profile. A teeny bit pricy but I think it was worth it for the pie. Go, if you really love traditional Neopolitan-style pizza. My friend and I went on a late Sunday afternoon; it wasn't that busy and definitely not during the lunch rush. However, it took a while for us for anyone to acknowledge our presence. In fact, I grabbed my own menu while being seated. No one asked for our drinks. Eventually, a waiter did notice we were huddled over one menu and finally brought a second menu. With the multiple signs around the entire area reminding everyone to register their vehicle license plate, and us actually asking the moment we entered about it, it still took another reminder to the waiter to take the license plate #. Then, when we finally had a chance to order -- also took a while -- the cherry Italian soda my friend ordered took 20 minutes to arrive. While I understand artisinal pizza can take a while, we were floored that it it took another 45 minutes or so for our meals to arrive. During that time, no one checked on us, our drinks, or updated us to the status of our meal. No one was unkind or rude to us, and we would suggest people try the pizza, but we're confused as to why the service was so slow and inattentive, considering the lack of patrons. I don't know why this place isnt reviewed more. It won best of Edmonton best pizza award before in years past. Its some of the best I've had here. I have had 2 pizza: The rosso which was pretty spicy for me but yummy fresh meats. Everything is fresh and alot of the ingredients are organic which is stellar for the price and size of the menu items. I do find the salads to be pricy but I do recommend this place for pizza. I also had a vegetarian pizza with eggplant mushroom and olives with ricotta cheese. The place is cosy and a great cafe for a coffee, danishes or gelato as well as a semi casual date. read more

It's pretty good pizza, everybody. I don't know that I would put it down as a cozy place to bring your children; mine weren't feeling the pizza at all. But as a nice place for couples to dine and have a nice drink, I think it stands tall as one of the best in the city. Winning staff and tasty dishes (the appetizers especially) make for a lovely night. It's a good vibe, particularly when you can sit out on the balcony on a warm night and watch the people wandering by. The olive caldi and the bruschetta are favorites of mine. Hopped into this place tonight before catching a movie and I was delightfully impressed. Wide variety of food and drinks and desserts, I had the soup of the day and so glad I did, it had chickpeas and cilantro and sausage in a really nice flavourful broth, then I had the margarita pizza and it was the best! This is our regular places for pizza. We have ordered take out and eat in several times the last couple of years. The total bill tends to be a bit higher than Famoso but we appreciate the variety. If you arrive early (before six pm in weekends) there's usually plenty of seating to chose from. The waitresses are quick polite and attentive to your needs. One of my friends prefer less oily + salty margaritha pizza. The order arrived according to the specs. I had argola (?) pizza - aragula and prosciutto ham. I would give this 3.5 if I could. It's good, but there is just room for improvement. The four times I have been there have been good but each time there was something small and niggling. I like the food and its really what does keep me coming back. I see they do alot of takeout so perhaps I am not alone in my thinking. The restaurant just could do better. I have tried many of the appies and 4 or 5 of the pizzas. They have good drink selection. I was very disappointed with the gelato. I tried so hard to like it. I have been to Italy and have had the best of the best. This was just too heavy and one note. I tried a bunch of the flavors. but a taste is all I should ever have...a whole cup is FAR too much and I couldn't even finish. Also the bathroom toilet seat is so cold I froze my ass. I am pretty sure I got frostbite. I mentioned getting a heated toilet seat for the Ladies but the chirpy manager didn't seem to think it was a priority...I was able to experience frozen ass again and again. The muffin/biscuits were burnt, and the side of potatoes were RAW (*gordon ramsay voice*). The raw potatoes were simply inedible. Had lunch at Rosso, been going their since deCapo first opened. Food is always good but service is a little up and down. Of late, service has been great and friendly so I have been going more. But Tuesday was terrible. When we said we needed an extra minute with the menu as I had just arrived still had my jacket on, it turned her off. Attitude, not a smile once and basically avoiding the table. Rosso is small, our waitress walked by us at least a dozen times before I had to ask to order 15 mins after we asked for an extra minute. Asking for water was work for her, asking to remove the oil so we had more room on the table was a chore. When we left no smile, no thank you, was totally shocked by her attitude. Finally tried a pizza here and loved it! It was the Funghi Misti, with lots of mushrooms, a very mild mozzarella, fresh parsley, garlic, and white truffle oil. There was another kind of cheese on it also which I held in favour of just mozzarella (I'm funny when it comes to cheese). It was incredible, with a thin, chewy crust, and a light feeling overall made decadent by the truffle oil. Definitely exceeded my expectations. read more

In the days of Da Capo, I thought I was a fan, but then Rosso opened up in its place, and I changed my mind. 5 Stars, my friends! My first visit was for a lunch with my grandpa and uncle, and upon walking in the door, you could already tell this would be different. Marble countertops on the bar, reclaimed wooden tabletops, and this big, beautiful REAL pizza oven in the back. We all ordered different beer on tap, and trying each of them was great, though the Edelweiss stole my heart right away. I split an arugula salad and the special "lobster" pizza (with corn, greens and freshly made fior-de-latte mozzarella and a light lemon butter sauce), and it was everything a pizza should be - light, crispy crust, just enough sauce for flavour but not soaking the damn thing, and fresh, delicious toppings. We should have ordered two pizzas, it was phenomenal. I recently had the chance to come back for Yelp's Red Hot Rosso Nights Elite Event, and was even more blown away by the food than I already had been. Huge charcuterie platters, locally-made organic hot Italian sausage with rapini, and pizza after pizza after pizza, alongside Prosecco and my beloved Edelweiss. And the GELATO. Heaven. I was especially impressed with the owner - as we sat there (politely) stuffing our faces, he came around to ensure that we were all satisfied with the food, giving us some background on all of the ingredients, and as I raved about the sausage (which he told us also came on one of their pizzas that wasn't served), I jokingly gave him a hard time about teasing us with the delicious sausage pizza and he offered to go back and make me one for my own! A wonderfully engaging man, and I promised him we would be back to try it another night (because I'd foolishly filled up on charcuterie. For shame!). My wife and I have this tradition of going to sugar bowl for beer and if the place is full. we go to former DaCapo. So this time we decided to try the "new" replacement Rosso. I should say beside the appearance and wood burning oven, 90% of the restaurant is the same, even the staff. The only major change that really bothered me is that the price of beers have gone up. I use to pay 7$ for st Bernard now it is 10$ :( I prefer the new look, it is more comfy. Now they also take order at your table, which is a nice addition. I will defiantly keep going to this place. If you like to have a beer with friends and you do not want to stand in line for a seat at sugar bowl, I strongly suggest Rosso. They somehow want to promote the idea that now they are more of a restaurant than a bar which I hope it does not stick :D I prefer the old cafe/bar/good Italian food. I think I can safely say that this was the best pizza I've ever had in my life. I've heard good things about Rosso for a while and my thought was always along the lines of "well, yes, but they're more expensive than Famoso and I already love Famoso" - but seriously, it's like comparing apples to oranges. Rosso is in a league of it's own. The crust is crisp (and soft) to perfection with seriously amazing ingredients. But what really blew me out of the water (on the prosciutto mushroom pizza I had) was the tomato sauce - it was incredible. I can't even pinpoint what was so amazing. Just that it was the best tomato sauce I've ever had and probably ever will have. I also had some of my friends' fungi white pizza and, even without the amazing tomato sauce, it was to die for. We also tried the baked veggie appetizer and it was quite good though slightly spicy. The baked ricotta was delicious but I found the bread to be sliced WAY too thick - and there therefore wasn't quite enough bread for ricotta. The olives, though, were heavenly. Hot and in a amazing herb oil marinade. I ate approximately a million. My only other qualm was that the seating is kind of close together. It didn't bother me too much but I kept getting the evil eye from a lady at the table next to us as we were (apparently) closer than she would have liked (we had 2 people sitting on the booth side of a 2 person table).
