This was a cool spot. The 'front' room where you walk in makes you think this place is tiny, but the room off to the side more than doubles the whole place. This is a cool place, hip vibe, great location and of course a great beer selection. I wish I had the means to bring something home, their selection seems killer. They do have a lot more cans than draft, which was somewhat hard since you couldn't really look at every can they had behind the counter. Therefore, I opted for a delicious IPA on draft., which was a little pricey but worth it I suppose. It would be cool if they could have a can list as well, so you could more readily see what they have in the case. I understand this would be difficult with the ever changing selection, however, it was bothering me that there was A LOT I couldn't really evaluate. Otherwise, they have a bar side and a gaming side, which had Sega and Nintendo, which was just awesome. They had cans for purchase to drink or to go, draft pour, and a welcoming environment. I liked the original place. Always felt it was little more pricey than some of the beer stores up the road, but what do you expect on Lark. If you are local and don't want to get in the car and drive, this place is ideal. Liking the new place even more, with the bar, and casual atmosphere. This is a mellow beer bar with both indoor seating and a few tables outdoor (not covered, just on Lark street). They have TV's inside as well as one bar with seating at it. I liked that they had a variety of beers on tap as well as tons of canned beer to take to go. I agree with another review that it's a tad on the pricey side. Most of the beers are about $8-$10. However, because of the type of beers they have you probably can't find all of them at your local bars. One of these days I'll learn to always keep a small growler in my shoulder bag. I've been in this shop before just to come and look around at the beer selection. Actually, that's not true. I also came in once looking for an esoteric form of coffee filter for my Filtron cold brewing bucket. My thought was that if any place would have it, this small specialty store that focusses on beer and coffee would be my best bet. Unfortunately, they didn't have the filter pad. No big deal. In some ways Brew feels a bit like a beer gallery. One of the things I love about the new modern age of craft beers is packaging design. So many of them are just so freaking beautiful. And the selection at Brew is carefully curated. This isn't a place to come to find anything you might want, this is a place to explore what the owner thinks is special. On my most recent trip, I was there for one thing. The release of Founder's KBS. It's a special beer, released only once per year in limited quantities. Once it's gone, it's gone for good. And thanks to the Brew Instagram page I knew they were going to start selling it a noon with a four-bottle maximum. Some times these kinds of things have lines of people who show up in advance to guarantee their purchase. I'm not sure if that happened at Brew because I was there around 12:30 or so. But there was only one other person in the store at the time, and he was just there for singles of interesting beers. In addition to my four bottles of KBS, I would have loved to take advantage of some of the beers available in draft. But I left my growler in the car, and I wasn't about to buy another bottle in which to store beer. I've already got too many. Surely, if I lived in the neighborhood, this store would be an indispensable part of my life and a five star local business. I really enjoy it, and I love what they do. We're quite lucky to have so many super high quality places to get excellent beer. It may not always be worth a special trip just to come here, but it's definitely worth checking out once in a while. And certainly, if you find yourself near Washington Park on a beautiful sunny day, a stop in here is a must. read more

Their rotating beers are excellent! I had the Sloop Juice Bomb (Hopewell Junction, NY), a New England IPA. Which was served just at the right temperature in a 16oz goblet. It was a smooth beer. However u preferred the Finback Connect the Dots, which is a watermelon Imperial IPA. It had just the right amount of watermelon flavor to taste. Definitely recommend! The environment is cozy, it contains friendly and approachable staff. A plus for dog lovers- dogs are allowed! read more

Saturday night dinner service can sometimes demand a period of winding down prior to heading home. An adult beverage, along with some conversation, can provide the ideal transition between work and rest, with a bonus if you can walk to a place that allows for both. Lucky Center Square residents have the fairly new incarnation of Pint-Sized, which has evolved from a coffee/beer-to-go spot into a full-fledged beer and cider joint, that does a fairly good job of meeting both of those needs. My friend and I rolled in sometime after 11:00 to find a hopping bar and selection of quality beverages. While I love a good beer (and plan to drink a few next month while in Europe), cider has been my jam in recent years. I just find it a bit lighter in my belly. As soon as I spied the beautiful can of Nine-Pin Cider Rosé, my decision was made. We grabbed two and headed to the less crowded area, down one step and 10 decibels. We sipped our drinks directly from the can and caught up, enjoying the great view of Lark Street and the excellent playlist. We were eventually joined by a pretty damn noisy group of folks, but they didn't detract from the experience too much. I do wish, though, that people could moderate their volume a little better but, it was Saturday night and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. As did we. I think I found my new summer sipping spot. They have $3 Narragansett for those on a budget (and, potentially, a mission), standards like Sloop Juice Bomb IPA, and beers you've never heard of. The staff is knowledgable and unpretentious. I love sitting and just asking them what's new, because they all are genuinely happy to tell me all about what's there and why. They consistently always have the best music playing and have some great DJ takeover nights that cover a wide range of musical tastes but still not your typical bar DJ scene. Hell yea. HELL YEA. This place is such a refreshing addition to Lark street. It started as "Brew", a small bottle shop with a couple of taps for growlers fills. They moved across the street to the former location of Ben&Jerry's less than a year ago and added a bar. Pint Sized is no frills beer bar with friendly staff and weirdo beer nerds by the dozen. They have a really strong collection of cans as well as an excellent rotating draft list with a focus on local breweries. They also get rare and hard to get stuff here so follow them on their social media accounts. The space is small (hence the name) and they have very limited food offerings (empanadas from empanada llama). But the beer and cider selection is unmatched on Lark Street. Pint sized likes to host some better than average events. You may not find weekly trivia here but you will find a spelling bee hosted by a local comic. One of the kitschier items on the menu, bottles of Miller High Life, was given away for free on New Years Eve (champagne of beers toast). They also have daily specials and they evening I came in I had the pleasure of meeting August, the owner. He was a super chill guy and I'm happy to support this tiny, local place. read more

This is a great place to go if you care about beer. They carefully choose a wide variety of great craft beers and sometimes have things that you will have trouble finding anywhere else. The prices are fair for what you get, but in addition to the good stuff they also have Narragansett cans for $3 if you want to keep a buzz going for a lower price. Often you will see the owner working at the bar and his passion for the place is apparent from the first moment you speak with him. He has an authentic passion for beer and music and it shows. They often have cool small events so I make sure to follow their Facebook page to find out when they are. The smaller size of the place actual lends to a positive atmosphere where you can interact with the staff and the other patrons. They've got a pretty good selection of craft beers on tap and now that you can taste them I can step out of my comfort zone and try something new. This past Friday I stopped in hoping that they had Ommegang Glimmerglass on tap but it was not to be. Instead, August let me try a couple of different drafts and helped me make up my mind. I settled on a fill of Paradox Beaver Bite IPA. For $6 it was a pretty good deal since it didn't require me to get in my car and deal with the craziness of a Friday afternoon. Nice list of beers to choose from, my only complaint is they ran out of couple beers we where either drinking or wanting as a growler. Very aptly and cleverly named, Brew is a specialty beer and coffee shop on Lark Street. They offer craft beers that may not be readily accessible at most places that sell beer as well as coffee from various purveyors. My husband has been regularly buying coffee beans here to make at home. Some of the brands they sell include Stumptown roasters based out of Brooklyn and Barkeater coffee based out of East Greenbush. He's bought some of each but I think one our favorite has been the Barkeater porcupine blend. My husband made a cold brew with the porcupine blend and it's delicious! It's been a great morning treat for one of my many early mornings! He's also used the coffee for French press and pour over and it never disappoints. It's also so nice to see business like this one popping up on Lark st. The area definitely needs small specialty shops like this that will hopefully help lark st to spring back to life. Along with Stacks Espresso and Wine bar I hope shops like these help launch a much needed Rennaissance for Lark St. It would be nice to see something like the revival of downtown Troy in downtown Albany. read more

It's a cute place to take over the old Ben & Jerry's spot, but I really don't understand the hype. Do people like the graphics? Their logo is pretty well designed, but that doesn't make up for their products. I wasn't a huge fan of the cider selection although the beer selection was pretty vast. Every drink is at least a dollar or two over market value, which is pretty steep for a place that doesn't even have food. I really hated the cider I got, but that's not their fault so I won't let it mar this review. I LOVE that they have old video games hooked up in the next room and that they promote local events with posters littered on the tables. The bartender was kind of rude, but it was super crowded and he seemed overwhelmed. Regardless, it's in a great spot. It's a better place than Bombers to get a drink, but I wish they would paint the walls because I can't stop thinking about ice cream... especially since it's called Pint Sized lol. I think they should work on the atmosphere of this place and really break it in. I will definitely be back here once they are settled and hopefully update this review! While rare/high quality beers are on the higher side of the price spectrum, there are also familiar cheap classics available for those who don't care for the finer beer in life. If you're not coming for the beer, you're coming for the playlists, board games, and super cool staff - all of whom are Albany treasures. Outdoor seating is the best for people watching amongst lark street - you might even see a 21st birthday party stumble out of bombers after finishing the giant margarita! He keeps a a delicious and balanced selection of beers on tap for growler fills and usually has something super fresh and local. The bottle selection clearly has thought put into it and I can always find something to try. Usually, I ask for a recommendation from August and he always has a good suggestion. In particular I enjoy that they carry a lot of Chatham and Paradox beers and that they are often in the growler lineup. read more

Wait BEER and COFFEE? those are my favorite things! This place is great, and if I lived in Albany or anywhere near Lark St I would probably be a regular. The iced coffee is incredibly delicious. I drink it black, but if you don't your only other option is 1/2 and 1/2. Even black it's incredible. The beer selection looks pretty awesome, there aren't prices on anything and I was only there for iced coffee so I can't figure out how crazy the pricing is. I do like that there is a lot of beers that you can just by individually. Had I been able to buy beer there were a few I would have picked out. It's got a pretty stellar variety. My only concern would probably be that EVERY SINGLE BEER is in bright lighting...which is not good for the beer in the long run. read more

Although Brew is on Lark Street in Albany, it is pretty accessible via car. There's typically parking available on State Street, which is the street adjacent to Brew's store front. Despite being in a smaller space, Brew has a large enough variety of above average ales and lagers. They have cans, bottles and draught options that will guarantee to please any beer drinker's palette. Beyond beer, Brew also has a good coffee bean selection. This puts Brew over most of their competition and makes them a must visit for anyone getting ready for the weekend in Albany. Need help finding the right beer or coffee? I came in one day on impulse and was impressed by the selection of beer they had on the wall. They have anything you could brew, not just beer! There were teas and coffees along with their respective brewing equipment. The guy tending the store was helpful when I asked him about the beer brewing kits (the pricing is on par with/slightly higher than other home brewer stores). He also let me know if there was a beer missing from the wall that I could make a suggestion for the store to stock. I will come back and grab a growler of draft beer on a later date. read more
