    Fake wine

Warning, they are selling a fake wine. Yesterday we bought Porto for the evening with friends in this store, and, unfortunately, at home we discovered that the bottle was not sealed properly, there was no stamp strip that was supposed to be applied to the cork and used as a seal on the bottle, and the wine in it was fake, without alcohol content, which was not very pleasant, especially to discover this fact at a party.

This place has huge selection of domestic and imported wines. I am glad I found my favorite wines here. Price is good too!

Wow, what a place! I stopped in on a recent visit home to the Albany area. I've lived all over now (LA, San Francisco & Fort Lauderdale), but I have yet to come across a store that rivals All Star. The selection is what impresses me the most. When we go to our local liquor store in FL, I always notice that there really isn't anybody around to answer your questions. At All Star, there is usually someone knowledgeable on the floor to give you suggestions on what to drink. They also have some helpful descriptions under the bottles. If you aren't picky about what brand of alcohol you are buying, it seems that you can usually find something on sale. The inventory is amazing. You could find just about any kind of liquor or wine that you are looking for. I like that there are NY based products sold in this store, I believe some were even local. I remembered the labs wandering the store since I am a pet lover, happy to see that they are still there! I noticed the multiple fish tanks, I loved the large custom one in the back of the store that is supposed to look like a bottle! I swear we spent 10 minutes just watching or interacting with the various animals in the store. Bottom line, the animals are awesome to visit, but the selection here is GREAT!

Back where I am from, we had a place called Grocery Outlet. My good friend lovingly called it "Groce Out". But beyond expired meat and wilted produce, they sold close-out wine. It was a bargain-hunters paradise. All Star Wine & Spirits seems to have some of that going on, inside its hollowed walls. They had some of my favorite finds from Groce Out. Except in this case, it kinda seems less honest. With these closeout wines nestled among some really fine bottles of hooch. All Star has some remarkable stuff. But it's not all remarkable. Let the buyer beware. The 1992 Scharffenberger Pacific Echo Brut is a good bit over the hill. I've never had a bubbly taste sherried before, but I know enough that it's not a good thing. Still, to get an opportunity to taste something that was bottled when I was in college... for $4!... is a special thing indeed. Sadly they used to have a Beaujolais Cru section, but it is gone. Apparently, the people of Latham just wouldn't buy the good wine that All Star had been stocking. What a shocker.

Awesome special on Inniskillin ice wines!

During my short visit I was approached by three sales people, two very friendly, welcoming, and anxious to answer any questions. I was primarily interested in French and Northwestern wines. Not a huge selection but some very interesting and fine selections, several of which I haven't seen elsewhere in the Capital Region. I walked out with seven bottles. While I didn't expect this, I received a half case discount. Not inexpensive, but seemed quite fair for the area. I am looking forward to a return visit.

After that I wrote the owners an email and I never heard from them .Not an apology was issue not even a reply .I can't help but to think This was somewhat racially profiled but I can't make that judgement only god can I just know I will never set foot in that establishment again .

They have probably the largest selection of wines I have seen on any website and their prices will usually beat every other location. I have looked into. For example a bottle of Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling is usually $10-13 a bottle. They have it for under $9. I ordered a case which was delivered two days later for like $12 which is still cheaper. Some more expensive wines might actually give you free shipping. Going back to the case I ordered. I realized three days later that sent me the "sweet" Riesling. Which is too sweet for me. I called they check my order and switched it out the next day GREAT customer service. I will be using them a lot more often since it is so convenient and just talking to them feels like they really care. One day I'm make the trip there ( when I have about $500 to spend ) to make it worth while.

What really sets this place apart from other places though are the self serve wine tasting station where you can taste before you buy and the in store chilling machine. The self serve wine taste station usually has 4-5 bottles on tap and little cups for trying which really is a better way to go than picking the prettiest label like I usually do. Then, if you want your wine ice cold, drop it in the self chilling machine and in a mere seven minutes, ice cold baby. Me and my cousin couldn't buy our wine being over 55 years of age because he was inside of the store to begin with. I contacted multiple liquor stores and they have all told me the same thing. It's NOT the law. He lost about $100+ in sales. That means if a mom walks in with her 1 year old that she can't be sold because she has her kid with her. He also claimed to be a multi million dollar business but his whole back shelf was empty and wouldn't be in Albany New York in a small town if he was. Store was a ghost town til we came in Aswell. Strange behavior from someone who could've used the money. Lied about the law but what do I know, rude throughout the whole process so glad he didn't get my money. I went to another store and got my liquor for cheaper and had some respect when doing it. Not a surprise that the man who works here is specifically the one all the negative reviews are about. Store is rated a 2.3 as I'm writing this cause of his behavior. Keep acting the same and you won't be doing your business any favors getting yourself these reviews.
