I came here on a Saturday night . Overall my experience was okay . Skating rink is mid-sized and can get crowded really fast . Let me start off by saying the bartenders hands down may be the best respectful workers they have . Drinks were great. Customer service definitely needs to be worked on (disregarding the bartenders). Front desk greeted my group of 4 with great customer service and was very respectful. we got our tickets and unfortunately waited almost 10 minutes to get our skates . Both the male and female workers made eye contact with each person of my group and continued to help EVERY other person except our group. Very dismissive, until a kind fellow customer seen we were waiting before they had walked up , spoke on our behalf then we were finally acknowledged and provided skates. I then ordered food , waited 1hr for a kids pizza and fries . I complained after about 30 minutes after ordering about the wait and then was explained My waiter was in training and said he had delivered the pizza to my table but "the people that were sitting there said they didn't order anything " (neither my friends or I were approached ) then took the food back to the kitchen but was being remade . 15 minutes after, I then asked again about the wait & was explained that the kitchen made the wrong pizza and I would have to wait another 10 minutes for the kids pizza to be remade . I was compensated by refund for the wait which I do appreciate. read more

What a cool skating spot! Much bigger, nicer, newer than the one I've been going to down south. Great jams, which is very important to me lol. Today is Tuesday, which I think is Adult Night, so plenty of throwbacks. The vibe was on point with the music, the lights, & the peeps. If you're looking for a good rink, I'd definitely hit this place up for a night out with a couple friends or your boo thang. The only thing I'd keep in mind for beginners, is that this place is poppin, packed, & pretty fast paced. Wouldn't say it's the best environment to learn. This place is an absolute nightmare when it comes to the staff and just the general atmosphere. I'm sure it can be nice during weird off hours when not a lot of kids are around and most of the weekend staff is in school. The whole idea of allowing kids to use their pvc-pipe-walker-trainer-danger-crutches is just plain ridiculous. I'm all for inclusiveness, but not at the expense of safety and enabling of kids to never learn how to skate on their own. If a kid can't skate, maybe they should spend some time in their driveway at home before endangering others, but hey that's just my 2 cents. The staff is also completely run by teenagers who literally have no idea how customer service works. I literally watched a "staff instructor" zip through the table area and knock over some little kid. Seriously dude? Anyway, long story short, this place is a frenetic cluster and not worth it. Went to bowl and check out the new place for the Thurs $10 special. Lanes are quite dark which makes it hard to see. Bowling side was quite warm so dress lightly and be prepared to sweat. My 18 yr old daughter and I walked into the skating rink expecting to have a wonderful time at my little cousin's birthday celebration.However, when we approached the counter we were met with nothing but attitude. I logged it as maybe she's having a bad day but I didn't pay it any mind until it was time for me to make the payment and she visibly snatched my 100 dollar bill out of my hand. I spoke with her manager on shift at the time who appeared to be equally frustrated for some reason. Well when YAZMIN returned with my change I took my money out of her hand and I snapped a picture of her for my review and she attempted to attack me by taking my phone away from me. Her manager told me NOT to take pictures of his employees and I told him this was a public place and not to mention his employee tried to attack me and take my phone. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CENTER & hate that I had this experience. I hope something will be done about these kids who are working and don't know anything about customer service. read more

Background knowledge: I have been in and around roller skating rinks since 1970. I have skated, worked at, managed, and consulted with and for rink owners for 3+ decades. I have skated in almost every state east of the Mississippi River, California, and Colorado. In Texas, I have skated throughout the DFW metroplex, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Unfortunately, if you want to skate in the Austin area, you are limited to one of three choices, none of which are worth your patronage. I also have been a certified firefighter/first responder for the last fifteen years, with a lot of experience in hazard mitigation and safety. Playland is the 'best' of the three choices in ATX, but the bar is so low that it might as well be lying on the floor. Let's start with the facility itself - the floor in particular. I generally skate for 2-3 hours, and when I'm done, my wheels are COMPLETELY coated in gunk (gum, candy, dirt, soda, you name it - it's all over your wheels. Every time I return from Playland, I have to take a drill with a wire wheel to scrub the crud off of my wheels. Yes, it is that bad, and yes, it happens every single time I skate there. As you roll across the floor at Playland, you will see the gum, the candy, the powder from the candy straws, pizza, cake, and everything else you can imagine ground into little black stains on the floor. It is astonishingly filthy as roller rink floors go. It is truly a shame though because the floor is now actually starting to deteriorate due to the abuse and lack of routine maintenance. The staff is incredibly rude, inconvenienced by your presence, and couldn't care less if you're satisfied or not - they know they are the only game in town, so it's them or bowling. None of the staff (mostly teens) have any basic concept of first aid and I have seen many injuries that have been met with "I'll get you a bag of ice" and nothing else. Your most common injuries are going to include wrist, arm, ankle, tailbone, and head trauma (mainly because of the condition of the floor), and the times I've been there, they average 2-3 significant injuries. This is a huge issue if someone has a head/neck injury, and they decide to move them off of the floor. It is, in my opinion, a disaster waiting to happen. Crowd control - nonexistent. Moms and dads walking with their children out on the skating floor - not along the side, not in the middle of the floor out of the flow, not on the "practice floor" which is off of the main floor - nope, walking right smack dad in the middle of the flow of skaters with their heads down, focused only on little Johnny of Suzie with zero regard for any other skaters. There are generally a half-dozen or so rowdy friends of the teenaged floor guards that are allowed to skate completely unchecked, zipping in and out of inexperienced skaters and causing a lot of the spills that end up as injuries. To make matters worse, on Saturday afternoon sessions, with a couple of hundred kids on the floor who can't skate, they think it's a good idea to not only turn the lights off for 10 minutes or so but also to turn on the fog machines. Very low light, add fog, add kids that cannot stand up on skates - do the math. Music selection and sound - abysmal. The speakers on the near end of the floor almost work, and the rest are 50% distorted. The music selection is the worst music I have ever experienced at any rink - absolutely unskatable. This is why half of the skaters are wearing headphones - another recipe for disaster as they cannot hear whistles (if there are any), announcements, warnings, etc. Filthy floor, rude staff, dangerous conditions, not even basic first aid training. Sadly, I have to pass on Playland and pretty much give up on skating until I move out of central Texas. read more

I want to start by saying how saddened I am by the experience we had this weekend. My granddaughter had her party there on Sunday. We booked the party for 18 kids and of course parents would be there too. We were given a table that only sat about 10 to 12 kids. We were in the corner in a high traffic area. We had to put the gifts on the floor. The host we were given seemed like he didn't want to be there. We asked for another table and were told because we added kids they couldn't accommodate. The price of the party was going to be over 800. The price wouldn't have mattered if they had accommodated our party, had a good host, and if the food wouldn't have been raw. We talked to several managers and they all said they couldn't accommodate. The final straw was when the host told my daughter if she came to bitch or if we were here to skate. My granddaughter cried at her party. Birthdays only come once a year. And this year it was ruined by this experience. read more

Then as soon as they get up & running, they fire her & a bunch of the people that stuck around and helped them. They called it a no call no show but the app obviously wasn't working. Didn't try to check up on her to see if she was ok or nothing. She just finds out she's fired when she cant get into the app & call up there to ask why. Yall are absolute trash for that. Let the nostalgia of Jr High begin... As soon as you walk in.. from the neon lights to the 90's print carpet, and the old school snack area all the feeeeellsss!!! I had been wanting to check this place out since I moved to Austin 8 years ago, and I wanted to go on my past birthday this October.. but it just did not work out. But this day.. after a couple of margaritas had settled nicely.. I was SO ready to hit the rink as if it hadn't been 10 plus years since I have skated. LOL The music is very nostalgic.. I mean the Ashlee Simpson, the Mambo No 5, the best music of the late 90s, and early 2000's. I love how clean this place is, even though you can see the age. I love the staff, they are very friendly and you can tell they enjoy what they do. the snack bar is not super high priced. They give you the GOOD SONIC ICE for the water you pay for. And trust me, if you are like me and my girlfriend, you are going to need it after a few minutes of trying to keep up with these kiddos doing triple axles (not exactly, but you get the point). It was honestly just so much fun feeling like a kid again. Once I got back used to it, I started my groove, thinking I can turn on my own and balance etc. I only managed to fall once! Went here for a private event. First time in about 20-25 years. It changed -a little- The arcade machines moved. And they don't do bingo there anymore. So there's some dedicated exit spots everywhere around the rink. And a small practice area. The arcade also had a small prize counter as well. With a cash buy out option which seemed a bit genius (Kid doesn't have enough tickets for what they want? Well you can snag it for a few bucks) Their rental skates are alright. Make sure to bring thick socks. (Though I am pretty sure I saw they had skate socks for sale on my way out. Just my luck!) The AC unit seemed to not be up to the task, but that might also me being fat. or the fact they might not have cranked it up all the way. Honestly, I will certainly go again. I love it enough that I'm considering a monthly membership, but the place is NOT new skater friendly. My wife was first time skating, staying along the wall and a guy plowed into her hard at full speed, knocking her down and bruising her pretty badly. Inconsiderate people speed around and weave as if they are on a speed skating rink and no one is there to manage it. Throw alcohol and THC into the mix and it gets dangerous. It's just like the skating rinks you remember from the 80's but without the smoke. The skates are pretty good quality and entry price is good. If I wanted to worry about crashing or being cut-off, I would've just gotten on the highway... :/ This is definitely the most crowded place I've been since COVID-19 began. I don't think they were bothering to restrict the number of people allowed inside... I really wanted to have fun. I tried. I was loving the vibes with the lighting and music. Great wooden flooring, fun-colored carpeting, and a mini arcade in the back. But too many of the advanced skaters were just brats. We'd gone for the Tuesday adult night to avoid the children but... considering full-grown adults were prodding me in the back (yes, touching during COVID!) or shouting at others "INSIDE!" as they whizzed past... I think I'd've preferred the kiddos. These folks were just plain rude. Weaving madly between others, cutting off elderly people just trying to have a relaxed skate, what seemed purposefully getting as close as possible to beginners to rattle them off the floor, sneering at those who had fallen. And when it was announced two fast skates were coming up in ten minutes, do you think they slowed down? Nope, they had to hot-rod around showing off the entire time leading up to that. So much for slow, gentle skate! Idk about anyone else, but they were definitely ruining it for me. I'll come back again some time during the day to try it out and see if it's better. The establishment itself was great-- clean restrooms, $1 water, decently maintained rental skates. But they need to police their floor better. I saw one fella standing on the floor with his phone out with his mask down, violating three rules at once. Not cool, dude. Took advantage of an awesome online BOGO admission deal. $9 got both my partner and I in, along with skate rental. So we got our money's worth, even if we left halfway through the night. read more

We went to the adult only Valentine's Day party. We are both 62 and were masters at skating in the 70's....well, we need to go again and again to get back our moves but this place is golden! EVERYONE there was so happy, glad to be there, encouraging, and I could go on and on. Very diversified group of the friendliest people I've ever been around as a large group in Austin...EVER! I took my two kids (13 and 10). My 13 year old doesn't know how to skate and didn't want to learn, but I didn't want to leave him at home, so I brought him alone. The plan was to busy shit inside and read while we skated. Despite the fact that he didn't skate, they still charged him as if he was. Although I've been in Austin a while and had heard of this place, I never got around to visiting. Had an opportunity to take my grandkids (ages 7 and 9) here a few weeks ago. I grew up in the Northeast: ice skating, roller skating and even played both roller and ice hockey. Switched to rollerblading in Texas and used to skate the Veloway in South Austin quite a bit. So I'm somewhat used to being on skates. My old 5-wheel K2 skates were in the garage and used them. Skating is like riding a bike, you never really forget, although you do get rusty. Both grandkids chose rollerblades, you can also rent quad skates. They had both tried this once before and liked it. Anything that gets them away from TV or screens and is physical is GREAT and I'm all for it. They have this terrific skate "walker" for beginners. This PVC pipe device on wheels allows them to have something to lean on. Both kids had a blast and one wanted to try quad skates. The people at the facility were glad to let her change (and then change back when she wanted to go back to rollerblades). The facility had a pretty big turnout on a Saturday afternoon. It's a gorgeous wood floor rink, quite large. Wood is the best surface for indoor skating by far in my opinion. The kids had a blast and so did I. My only complaint was the cost. I thought the place was a bit on the expensive side (of course, it's easy for me to say, I don't have to try and make it profitable). That's the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. First time attending this adult skate night on tuesdays from 7-11p. Not at all what I was expecting...it was way better! Gets pretty busy around 8:45p/9p to the point I felt like it was too crowded. I appreciated that it was a diverse crowd, lots of friendly people, great music to skate to, decently priced concessions at an affordable price. I appreciate the retro decor. Staff was nice. There is a back section of arcade games and a side section to practice on if you need to. There was opportunity to skate in different directions and opportunity for advanced and beginner skates. Great indoor skating rink. However, if you're wanting to come skate in a more open space without worrying about dodging people all the time, you need to know when to go. Otherwise, you can get stuck skating in a rink crowded with people. For instance, Tuesday Adult Night is like a New York subway train during rush hour. You will likely be skating with a large crowd. I'm an intermediate skater but I was nervous the entire time having to dodge skaters of all levels. I can only last a max of 1 hr. It is tough to get a good quality skate in during those nights. I will admit that the vibe is nice. Music is usually on point since a DJ comes in specific for those nights. However, if you're looking to beat the crowds but don't mind radio music, come on the weekdays before 6pm. I went here for the first time for Adult Night on a Tuesday. I didn't expect it to be busy but it was! I arrived at about 10 minutes past 7pm and the line was already getting lengthy. It took about 5-10 minutes to get to the front. Once I was in I quickly got skates and laced up. The lockers where you can store your stuff are the old school kind where you need two quarters to lock it, so come prepared with change. I'd say capacity is the biggest drawback. Adult night is nice because you don't have to maneuver around children, but there are still a lot of people and at varying skill levels so you have to watch out. My preference would be for it be a little less crowded, but I would still totally go again. The music was great and the overall vibe was a lot of fun! read more

Cheap thrills are what we live for these days, especially any indoor ones, so when someone suggested Playland for a random Tuesday activity (vs a bar), I was all for it. It's adult only (18+) night on Tuesday, 7-11pm. Get there early and enjoy a somewhat sparsely crowded rink where you can get some quality laps in. After about an hour it gets pretty sardine-like, and although everyone is wearing masks, it becomes a lot less of a leisurely, fun activity and more of a defensive, on-guard type dual between those that can skate and the wobbly, unsure wheelers. I will say, though, if you're not good at skating, you don't necessarily need to worry about getting in the way of the advanced skaters, as they're skilled enough to whip around you, but they make a sport out of it (totally their prerogative since they paid to be there, too), so it's a little distracting, unnerving if you don't have your rink legs quite yet. The pros are that it's cheap, the music on Tuesday night was a nice mixture of current pop and good oldies, it's a fine rink when you have more space to frolic around in it, and there's a snack bar in the event you work up an appetite.
