This City of Austin entertainment complex is located just down the street from where I live and is in fact on the same street. There's so much fun stuff to do like bowling (16 lanes) and roller skating at the indoor roller rink. There's food court, movie theatre and arcade too. There are rooms for parties, events, and more. I've attended a few events at this complex. It's clean and well-maintained and an important space for kids and families. It started as a safe space for kids. My granddaughter and i went bowling there and it was a lots of fun. We went on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all.

Place was filthy. Most out of order signs I've ever seen in one place. Dead roaches on the floor, every surface was sticky, hand soap in the restrooms was Fabuloso I'm pretty sure. Really sad the city doesn't put more money into the facility. Could be an awesome place. read more

We stuck it out and kept coming to Millennium and they have been much more reliable lately! We've been skating there twice and had a blast. This looks like a fun place for kids in the community to enjoy. They have skating rink, an arcade, basketball gym, bowling alley, DJ booth and real food. When I say real food, I mean fried chicken, chicken and waffles, catfish, pizza etc... not your average snack bar food. I came here for a charity basketball tournament and it was the perfect place to host it. Music was on point, food was on point, the restrooms were clean and the staff was great. read more

The Millennium Youth Entertainment Center is a great place to take the kids for fun & for a reasonable price :-). It's really open & big & has a bowling area, skating ring, movie theater, & a video arcade area!! Woooh that was ALOT :-). There is also a food court w/ lots of seating & tables but just know that the food court sells the typical food court food so don't come hungry if you're watching your figure ;). You can also have birthday parties at the MYEC ..which is always a plus to let someone else help w/ all the work. The parking lot is also very big w/ plenty of parking so no worries there. My only "could be better" is that this time at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Center there were lots of "out of order" games in the arcade area..the pool table was out of order & there were also about 4 other games not working & the basketball games no longer had the nets around the rim & some of the basketballs were flat. I do hope that the "Higher Ups" do keep up maintenance w/ the games that do need repair & get ALL games in working order so that the MYEC can continue to be a fun & awesome place for everyone to keep enjoying. read more

The only thing positive about this place is the concept and idea, and that's about it: a youth and family-focused place for fun and events. Beyond the curb appeal, this place is a bureaucratic nightmare. Let me paint you the picture: -Huge facility with huge skating arena, bowling alley, arcade, and small movie theater -Facility owned by the City of Austin -Operations managed by a 3rd party - for-profit - entertainment conglomerate (ASM GLOBAL) -Funded by grants and executive decisions made by a small neighborhood/community board of directors (Austin Rosewood Community Development Corporation) First, the management of the place is horrible. It's open 4 days a week, leaving this hugely potential facility closed for 3 full days where they could be supporting the community and offering programs to youth, rec sports, and general recreation activities every day. The management also ignores all emails and phone calls unless you persist to get ahold of someone. Let's also get real, the manager of this place has been the manager for 20 years. These people are comfortable in their positions and don't give a shit about the community, just their paycheck and cushy 4-day limited hours work week. The same goes for the Rosewood community neighborhood board who keeps this place bringing in big bucks to an outside entertainment operation company instead of keeping the funds local and putting it back into the community. The board of directors for this place is just a fake facade. Having a board makes it seem like they're doing something good for the community when really it's just a label they can fall on to advance their own careers and agendas. And I imagine ASM Global is lining their pockets deep. This place needs new management badly, and the whole business structure needs to change to actually support the community by making the venue accessible and affordable. read more

The Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex (Everybody just calls it the Millennium) is the place I have been going to skate for almost a year now. It's a great place to skate when you want to practice because very rarely it's crowded. You can order food and drinks from a counter in the skating area and it's mediocre, but really good for a place that counts as a skating rink, basketball court, arcade, bowling alley and movie theater. Another thing I like is the consistency, rarely it is closed but when it is it's very difficult to find out when and how long. I usually go there 3 days out of the week so I think I can say that I really recommend this place. read more

By far the best rink in Austin. There are 3 reasons for this: 1. Grown 2. Folks 3. Roll MYEC hosts a monthly event called "Grown Folks Roll." Actually, it is called "Grown Folks Step & Roll," we'll get to the "step" part in a minute. GFR is a special time, where they do not allow anyone under 21 into the rink. Where, for a mere $5, you get skates, access to the rink, and the privilege of bringing your own booze. Yes, that is right: BYOB Skating. I could really stop this review right here, but I will go on. The rink is actually really nice: it is wooden and has not been varnished to the point where you cannot tell it is wooden. This is a plus for me, because I like the feeling of wood slats under my skates. During GFR, they play all the old hits. For some reason, all I can remember now is "Macho Man," but I'm pretty sure they also played some MJ, J5, Bee Gees, and Donna Summer. Anyway, did I mention it is BYOB? Oh, I did? Alright, moving on. The skates. Well, this is a youth community center. On the east side. So, these skates have been well-loved. I would definitely recommend bringing your own inserts or wearing really thick socks, or just bringing your own pair. The steppin'. Alright, towards the end of GFR, they host a "Step & Roll" competition. People do the Electric Slide in skates or stocking feet. I don't know what you win, but being able to do the Electric Slide in skates is really its own prize, isn't it? I latest about 45 seconds and then went back to my seat and drink to watch the grown folks step and roll. The other. This is a full-service youth community center. Been bringing the kids here for 10 years. Great venue, cheap games, bowling, semi-working movie theater, and the best of all - a well run roller skating rink. However, this place is in desperate need of new management. The company who manages it is SMG, and they've had the contract since 1997. The venue is heavily subsidized by the city and in 2016 the city contributed $663k to the operational budget. The take away here is that this is and should be an affordable venue, period. However, with the budget it has, I would expect better performance. But hey, I'm not volunteering to take over the place so... Three stars for trying, and the employees here do try. Aw, man, these reviews make this place sound like some kind of ghetto dive. It's not. It's a kid's idea of paradise, if said kid is too hip for that Chuck-E-Rodent place. My wife does the Big Brothers Big Sisters thing, and the plan today was to take her little sister skating and bowling. Since the little sister stood us up, we ended up going without her. They didn't seem to mind that we were there without a kid on a Friday afternoon. We didn't partake of the skating rink, the concessions, the movie theater, the karaoke room (what?), or the video games (the section of which seemed sparse, but included my beloved skee ball)--no, we headed straight for the bowling lanes. One game for the two of us was $6.46 (shoe rental included, though staff is cool if you just want to wear your sneakers). Subsequent games (we played three total) were only four bucks and change apiece. In all, a cheap date and a very fun afternoon. Apparently Friday is "Family Day," and everyone is charged a little less, so expect to fork over a little more on other days. read more

The MYEC is a place for hiding out from the cops when you've just been chased all over East Austin and need a free place to run into. While you're there, you can play a multitude of quarter video games (Pac Man, Dance Dance Revolution, etc), pool, air hockey, catch a new release movie, a game of real [crappy] bowling, or roller skate like Xanadu. You can also have your 50th wedding anniversary whacky party there. They have enough tables and frozen personal pizzas for any geriatric gamer. The feel of this place is very government run, old, dusty, dorky, and vacant. I don't think I'd ever take my party people there for fun, but I do have to say that it's a great place to take your sword wielding, shin kicking, blood thirsty 2 and 5 year old boys. It's not busy, so you can surf your iPhone while the chitlins take over the world. Hence the 3 stars. read more

I wish I had discovered the roller rink at this place sooner. A friend of mine had mentioned it several times, but it wasn't until I had a really bad day and needed something to cheer me up that I finally went. My friend and I had the whole rink to ourselves...they even turned on the disco lights while playing funk music. It's hard to be having a bad day when you're skating to good music on your own personal rink! Now my friend and I have started doing recreational roller derby. We come here a few times a week to practice on our own and, since we go during the day, we usually have the place to ourselves (lucky us with flexible jobs). It took the staff awhile to warm up to us, but we are familiar faces by now. The guy that runs the skating area is always really friendly to us and knows what kind of music we like (80s of course...because we want to relive the skating day)...he puts it on before we even ask. Better yet, this place is affordable. I think it's a great resource for kids, and I hope it gets used more than it appears to be when we go there. read more

I was mad at MYEC for a while but I'm glad we made up. :) I went to Grown Folks Roll this past December for the first time and I was in LOVE. $5 for admission and skate rental, a DJ spinning the best old school hip hop, and BYOB? Blocks from my house?? Yes please!! I immediately decided I wanted to have my friends come here for my birthday in February and drafted up a Facebook invite at the beginning of January. After that, I spent weeks trying to get in touch with someone at MYEC with some questions I had. No one ever answered the phone and the place never seemed to be open whenever myself or friends tried to stop by. I even emailed several addresses and got no response! I finally got someone on the phone and they told me that Grown Folks Roll was no longer every Saturday-- just every THIRD Saturday. I explained my birthday situation and pointed out that their website still advertised it as being a weekly party. They did not seem to care. They did point out that I could still come, but it would just end a little early, there could be kids there, and no BYOB. That's a birthday cake of a different color, but I was willing to give it a try... until they told me I'd have to pay all sorts of $$ just because I mentioned it was my birthday! Homey don't play that! I kept nicely pointing out that I had a whole bunch of people RSVPd to come out for my bday, so I would be bringing them all sorts of business, but they kept insisting they wanted a payment up front. When I hung up, I felt like it was over between MYEC and I.. (and I never even made it to the cheap theatre!) But what can I say? I can't stay away! Grown Folks Roll is just SO MUCH FUN! I returned again this past weekend and sure enough my love has been rekindled... Their customer service might not be the best...and sure, their pizza is most certainly the frozen kind (don't know 'bout y'all, but that's what I grew up eating in skate rinks anyway!), but I can't think of a more fun place to gather with friends on the cheap. So, Millennium is the #1 coolest place, according to the kids that come to the library where I work. They don't have a lot of money for entertainment, but Millennium somehow manages to make the prices reasonable for kids in the neighborhood to walk there and bowl, watch a movie, play video games and rollerskate. City of Austin Employee Appreciation Week is going on. Aw, shucks! Thanks, City of Austin, for appreciating me and letting me and my immediately family go for a free night at Millennium. My husband and I were the only family sans kiddos there, but we still had a blast. They turned off the token feature on video games, so I got to continue my Time Crisis II game as many times as I wanted! I got to level 3, y'all! Then we rollerskated through a crazy obstacle course of dozens of falling toddlers. Then we bowled- they had a shortage on shoes so I got to bowl in my high-tops. I looked through the reviews and tried this place for a party. I will have to say we really enjoyed it. Plenty of parking, the complex is really big. There is Bowling, a $3 movie theatre, a small arcade and roller skating. We had a birthday party for just over $130, which is half the price of most other places. The party host and all the staff were all very nice. This place was also very clean, much cleaner restrooms than Blazer Tag or Jumpolines. I would recommend this place to anyone with kids 4 to 13. We will definitely go back for some family bowling also half the price of the regular lanes. They are owned by the city of Austin and prices are kept low so youth have a place to go for fun. read more

It's not Dave and Buster's or Chuck E Cheese, but the prices are RIGHT ... it's so inexpensive it's practically free. All of the prices for kids are $5 or less and dear adult chaperone, when is the last time you watched a movie for $6 with only three other people in the theater? That's what I thought. Nevermind the fact that the movie (which was quite interesting) was in my humble opinion not entirely appropriate for children ... but then again, I was there on my own without any kid accomplices. On a recent Saturday afternoon, as we waited (with partial patience) to buy our movie tickets, the employees who were selling movie tickets and handing out bowling shoes had to make an announcement for everyone to clear the arcade no fewer than three times. Our patience and amusement increased as we watched the scene unfold. It was literally and figuratively a one-way conversation as the employee made increasingly urgent announcements imploring the kids to part ways with the video games so they could set up a party. We were a little worried about being late for the movie until we overheard one employee say to another "we need to start the movie becaue we have some people who just bought tickets" at which point I realized we were going to have the place to ourselves. The point of all of this is that in exchange for these bargain basement prices you should not expect to feel like you are at Violet Crown Cinema, Highball, or even Playland or you will be sorely disappointed. Instead think of it as a tricked-out community center with all the bells and whistles. And by bells and whistles, I mean nachos with plastic cheese, $6 feature films, a skating rink in central Austin, and bedraggled but friendly community center employees who help keep small herds of kids on the up and up. New derby girl in town looking for a place to get some skating time in, after moving to Austin during the off season -- very impressed with MYEC. Showed up on a Tuesday afternoon and had the entire rink to myself for over an hour. Later on, a few more people trickled in. Pros -- Nicer surface than the Austin Roller Rink; full-sized; big parking lot; very friendly and helpful staff (pick your own music!); nice bleachers... super cheap prices for long open-skate sessions. I put four out of five because of the pros and some cons: Pros: 1. Highly inexpensive 2. A lot of entertainment options for children 3. Friendly staff 4. Kids love it 5. Surf on wifi while kids play or socialize with other adults Cons: 1. The same level of quality as any govt. run facility shows a lack of funding 2. Sometimes games are not working (As with any arcade) 3. Greasy fried food options or fruit with high fructose corn syrup (I am more health conscience). When the center gets busy, the staff work hard and are still friendly. It feels like a family environment. I feel that the people there treat you like family as long as you are respectful to them. If you get rude then they will get rude. That doesn't bother me because I would have been rude to assholes when I worked in retail if I wasn't told that was a way for me to lose my job. I am always friendly and so are they. I personally love being called "honey," and "sugar" from my cashier. read more

I like it here when I can go, prices are cheap . I really like the Bowling Lanes they are all the same as highland lanes and other bowling alleys. They also have automatic scoring for bowling which is a plus. They have a ok selection of food. This place is awesome and I wish I had discovered it sooner. A roller skating rink, bowling alley, arcade, and theater all in one and at a reasonable price! Fridays are family day so it was only $3 to skate and $3 to bowl. The prices for other times aren't much more. Clearly I am not the only one who has missed this gem. I like this place because it offers a choice of activity for kids: skating, bowling, arcade, and movie theater. We had fun skating and bowling then hit the arcade at the end. They have a decent size rink that was not that busy for a Saturday afternoon. Afterwards, we were able to walk in and get a lane without a problem even though they had several parties going on. They have ball ramps for those who need them and bumpers for people like me who completely suck at bowling. :) The arcade is limited and they had a handful of games either out of order or in need of service. They have signs stating they are not responsible for lost tokens however they replaced a token we lost in one of games. This complex is ok...nice entertainment venue, which includes a theater, bowling alley, food court and arcade room. The arcade has machines that takes your tokens, more than one machine that is....bowling alley has 16 lanes, which was good, since there was a bowling tourney going on....food court, regular burger and fries of course, but also, shrimp, fish, chicken, pizza, hot dogs, sausage wraps...good variety..but they are a little slow on getting you your order...ok, maybe it was because of the bowling tourney that caused my food delay....the theater..didn't get the chance to get in there...but it's only one showing all day....all and all..it was ok. read more

This is my second time there and I can't imagine why I haven't been back sooner. I went again last night so that my 40 .... year old sister could enjoy my experience. Well a bunch of us met up included were grand kids, nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, son, daughter and friends. Needless to say everyone had a ball. We are going to try to make plans for all the Fam to get together once a month. Some of us are originally from Chicago and St Louis and have been on the hunt for a place to meet up and have a family outing. I must say I am very pleased to have found a family friendly place that's affordable and offers a variety of things to do. We live North for the most part or else we would most likely go once a week. Friday about 9:00 pm I took my daugter along with my niece to the MYEC skating ring. At the admissions booth I was charged a skaters fee and wasnt planning on skating. Thats fine its cheap 3.25 at the door per person. What ticked me off was the fact there is a re-admission fee, meaning if you step out to take a call you have to pay AGAIN to re-enter! So whats the point of the wrist bands? The place is under staffed and the palce was filthy. There were too many childeren unsupervised. No one to clean tables or to pick the trash up from the floor. There was even trash in the skating ring. The concession stand closed early and the line to the water fountain was endless. An hour later EMS and the cops appeared. Apparently somthing went down in the bathroom. That place needs a new managment team. Won't be going there again. read more

This place rules, and I really don't get the hate I've seen in some Yelp reviews. We went skating today and played at the arcade with our 9 year old and had a great time. Every worker that we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The rink is huge, was practically empty on a Saturday afternoon, and is much cheaper than Playland. read more
