There's a skating rink, bowling lanes, a bar for drinks, an arcade, a toddler play area for the little ones, and food all in one place. It made it a very practical choice for a group where everyone wanted to do something different. We went for a birthday party and had a great time. The arcade is medium sized but still has enough variety to keep the kids entertained. The skating rink is spacious, so you're not constantly bumping into people. We also tried the pizza and it hit the spot while we were there. This night was a special night for a few reasons, but the most important thing is to do what you really love and enjoy. Add a little kid I love skating and watching adult skate in the streets and I wanted to do that but I always have protective parents so we were only allowed to ride on the street never in the street. A few years ago, I had a surgery on my knee due to a torn meniscus, and I have been desiring to go skating, but life has taken a course where I never made time however, this valentines, and anniversary weekend we decided to go skating. I had such a blast and I realize I really enjoy skating. Although there was a little discomfort in my leg from all the work of going around till midnight on adult night, which is Tuesday and Saturday nights from 9 to 12 PM and it was about $33 for two people with skate rentals. I brought my own skates however the skates that they have are quite nice for rent. I had o much fun watching everyone just smile and enjoy themselves. The staff was quite friendly, the DJ got better as the night got later, and we didn't get a chance to explore the whole new side. We are definitely looking forward to going back again with some other adult friends and experience the whole facility. read more

This skating rink has a pretty bad look from the outside for what it is. They should definitely remodel the sign since it is hard to see and can be easily missed. The inside is very nice u can rent rollerblades for 13 dollars. They have birthday specials and other nice features. As another Yelper pointed out, Pins & Wheels does a lot of things, but I miss the old Playland. The skating space is still awesome on a weekday afternoon. The practice area is about twice the size of the old one. This is good. We all agreed that it was too darn cold at the skating rink. They have NOT updated the skates. You can buy a pair of Playland socks for $4. It's Tuesday afternoon and this enormous place (Karaoke, bowling, skating rink, axe throwing, arcade, restaurant, bar) has some 20 or so customers. I imagine it will be packed on weekends and in the summer. There's Happy Hour between 3:30 - 6:30pm on weekdays. On Wednesdays, arcade games are 1/2 off. The food is mediocre or worse. The French fries for $3 are okay. I miss the old fries. The pizzas got thumbs down from my two companions. The nachos get a failing grade. The orange juice is *condensed*. Who still serves that swill in Austin? They do have non-alcoholic beer - two kinds. That's a win. They do not honor your old loyalty points. I'm told that they are going to issue gift cards with them... or something. When? This place has been revamped for months. This place has so much to offer! You can book tables, and there's plenty of parking--just be mindful of the kids running around. Check-in for roller rink parties is seamless, and the staff is incredibly accommodating. The food is great--I highly recommend the fried pickles, hummus with pita, flatbreads, and pretzels. The arcade games are a blast, costing 12-14 credits per game, and you can get 80 credits for just $5. They even have a half-off arcade day! The big virtual room is 48 credits and totally worth it because it's different and fun! We even tried bowling, which is priced per lane and even cheaper on Thursdays. I also visited the roller skating rink a few weeks ago--only $8 for rentals, and they have helpers if you need them. What a great place for our schools meet up/fundraiser event! It's nice to have a local place willing to draw in families and give a little back too. We had a clean restroom visit and a reasonably priced concession snack for the kids. I was impressed with three different staff members and their positive attitudes on a Friday night: Grey behind the front counter for skates was patient with our family and offered first time welcome advice. I didn't get the name of the employee behind the skate counter who offered an upset child some attentive encouraging words after falling on her skates. He had brightly colored hair. Pro Tip: Start with the VR game, followed by one of the non-arcade games (such as axe-throwing, bowling, or roller skating) and then wrap up your experience with arcade games. This was a stress-night for the staff and, overall, I do think they did pretty well managing the larger crowd. Sure, the bar got backed up for an extended time, but I can't imagine the demand will be as strong in a window of time on a regular night. I do think, however, that staff could've had welcome drinks prepared in larger quantities. Banco, at the VR station, was highly engaged and committed to interacting with us guests. He even pumped us up and cheered us on as we tried to safe ourselves from the "lava"! The food, however, was not as marketed - "Chef-inspired". I'd describe it as, 90's kid's party munchies. Don't expect the best pizza, tacos or chicken wings you've ever had; instead, look forward to a night of fun and nostalgia with the added benefit of munchies if you need it. The cocktails looked pretty exquisite, but on the sugary side, and the beer selection was actually unexpectedly decent. They had Electric Jellyfish (cheaper than what you'd pay at an Austin FC game). Playland is now Pins & Wheels and the updates are amazing, exactly what I expected when I heard they were renovating. It has a nice fresh and modern feel while still keeping some nostalgia. We went today for their Noon Years Eve event and the 2pm balloon drop. They opened at noon, we arrived at 12:15 and the line was out the door. It moved quickly though as they had ample staff which was a change from our past visits. They had maybe 4 lines to get checked in which was great compared to the old school way of one person at the window. You do have to sign a digital waiver now though so do that ahead of time!! Now this review is more for the event really, I'll have to go back in a normal day to get a real feel for what it's like now but as for today it was super disappointing. It was packed! As expected but it's like they didn't prepare for this amount of people. Compared to the old set up there was a lot more space in the front area which was nice but the lack of table space was obvious. We were there 15 min after opening and couldn't get table space and planned to eat. As people piled in behind us the disappointment continued with disappointed faces looking around for a place to sit down to put on their skates no where in sight. The concession stand line was pretty long but they kept it moving, it just seemed to pile up and not have a real direction though so people were confused and aggravated. Prices for everything have gone up but to be expected with the refresh. Just not somewhere we can frequent sadly as it was $55 for 4 of us to get in and $55 for 3 kids meals and popcorn with a bottle of water. So $110 in the first 20 minutes we were there. Then of course it was so packed and kids falling all over the floor with the pros flying around, my kids couldn't take it, they were begging to leave. A suggestion, consider selling tickets to this event prior to the event. Maybe sell tickets for two different blocks with the two ballooon drops. Like 12-3 and 3-6, this would alleviate some of the lines and the crowds. One thing they didn't upgrade, THE SKATES! Haha. They are still from 1989. I forgot mine so had to borrow some and they were rank! Then the shoe laces were so short on one and snapped while I was tying the other. (With the new carpet it's super hard to roll or walk too, just love prepared to be super awkward. But not a big deal, just fyi) We were impressed with the amount of balloons this year and loved the dance party after the drop, that was a nice touch from the last NYE event we came for. I also miss the old food. Their pizza was good before and today it was nasty, the kids wouldn't even eat it. The pretzel is now huge but it wasn't as good it was hard as a rock and not the best pretzel flavor. I did LOVe their queso and fries though, chicken tenders were good as well. Our family loves to skate so we will be back just hoping it will be less chaotic. I wish we were still skater tot age :(. Or wish they could add a 2 hour block for kids 12u. When these "professional" skaters hit the floor it's just so hard to enjoy skating and not cannot be fun for them either. read more

It's very cool how much they're able to fit in their space and it still feels spacious enough. I first learned about this spot because of a Yelp Elite event which was an amazing opportunity to see all they have to offer and the perfect place for a bunch of Yelp Eliters to fit. Since then, my husband and I have had a chance to come back and experience their bowling and arcade games. We'd recommend checking out their bowling on a Thursday night as that's when the pricing is only $10/hr for a lane. They also have happy hour weekdays 3:30-6:30 which we made sure to take advantage of. They seemed a bit short staffed as there wasn't a dedicated server in the bowling area - it made sense earlier in the evening when there were only a couple parties, but eventually it started to fill up to almost all lanes. The food also took quite awhile to come out. For some reason, the air conditioning did not appear to be on as we were sweating profusely as the night wore on. I think it didn't start to kick in until towards the end. A huge plus for this place is the large parking lot, so no concerns there! read more

We were there for a private party. They have bowling, axe throwing, laser tag, darts, and arcade games. And full bar and food. A lot of games were not working and they ran out of shoes for bowling. But they let us just bowl in our socks. It had been a while since any of us bowled, and we had a good time. The beer selection was pretty good, and the mix drinks came out fast. My review is regarding the skating rink, as an adult. Relatively fun, but insanely crowded on the weekends. Be prepared for people to weave in and out at break neck speeds, kids going in wrong directions, etc - eventually causing you to fall on your butt. I can see this being a lot more fun when it's not so crowded. Also - I understand the need for those little helpers for the kids but honestly they seem to pose more a threat to safety from my perspective because of how massive and clunky they are, and especially when the floor is full of them... you're constantly dodging them. I want to return again, but probably during adult skate only this time. I'm sure my experience will be different. I also like the fact that they have discounted skate times. That's pretty cool. I don't like the fact that they charge you for lockers, if you can't find a table to stash your stuff on, considering most of the tables are reserved or already taken. Manager & floor "ref" (really just a couple of teenagers someone left in charge) did nothing when a 10 yr. old boy kept sliding on the floor on his knees into my child who was skating. I asked the boy nicely without effect, boy become aggressive so I asked the "ref" and "manager" again. Nothing. I finally got fed up and we left. Additionally, $35 for 2 hours of skating? Nevermind if you want to eat. Give me a break. It's not even that nice inside. Smells like socks. Not worth it. Go to the movies with your money and keep safe. read more

My brother had his birthday here and night was too crowded with people. It was just right. The rink is huge and they have colorful lights to make the space seem inviting. I love how the tables are close by the rink so that you aren't having to walk too far on skates to your party guests. In the back of the rink, there's an area for practising especially if you aren't familiar or rusty on skating. I hadn't skated in years since childhood times, so that was an added bonus for to practice my skills. You have the option of choosing regular skates or rollerblades. The rollerblades are pricer though. Upon walking in, there's a booth where you have to pay. The staff is pretty friendly and accommodating. The renovated Pins & Wheels Playland is great! After visiting it for a soft opening hosted by Yelp, I knew I had to have our birthday party there (my husband and I have birthdays two days apart.) Although they offer party packages, just dropping in to skate is more our style. It went smoothly, and they were able to accommodate all our adult friends on top of all the other kids and usual guests who were there on a January Saturday afternoon. The place was packed, but not to the extent that it detracted from the fun. It's too bad their adult skate time is so late. I don't have energy to skate at night, I have energy to skate in the afternoons, so I'll skate in the afternoons, and deal with the kids. Who doesn't love skating???? As someone who grew up in the 80s, skating rinks were THE place to be with friends if not at the mall. The roller rinks in the 80s were filled with fun, laughter, and a little angst, of course. However, the music, the lighting, and most of all, the vibe were what made it. Skating has changed a great deal since I was a kid...this location has adult libations; wifi, food (wow) and all the other things one comes to expect at a rink. The prices for entrance have gone up a great deal from the days I used to skate. This rink charges $12.00 per skater to enter (that includes the skate rental). During this visit, Thing Two seemed to enjoy herself here with her friends. Yesterday was my 30th birthday -- and this place completely ruined it. We went with the intention of having a fun and unforgettable celebration: skating, bowling, arcade games. A month before, I personally called to ask if I could bring a birthday cake. The person on the phone said yes -- that I could bring one item from outside. At no point was a reservation, fee, or special booking mentioned. Not once. So I ordered a gorgeous custom cake and invited about 15 friends. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation. I said no -- we planned to sit at any open table (there were PLENTY). The moment they saw the cake, everything changed. They immediately said it wasn't allowed. I explained I had called and gotten approval, and they asked who I spoke with. I couldn't remember the name -- and that was their excuse to completely shut me down. They insisted a cake was only allowed with a booking. I asked to make a booking right then and there -- again, the place was NOT full -- and they still refused. No solutions. No alternatives. Just a cold, repeated "no." We asked to speak with a manager, hoping someone reasonable could help. Instead, the two employees -- a young woman and a man -- told us they were the managers. That was the moment I realized there was no way forward, no one else to talk to, and no interest whatsoever in helping us. Their attitude was so unempathetic, and completely unprofessional. Meanwhile, my guests were supporting the business -- buying drinks, food, skating, and spending money in the arcade. And yet, they wouldn't even let me sing happy birthday with a cake I was explicitly told I could bring. I pleaded, and the more I begged, the more it felt like they took pleasure in denying me. It was so sad. In the end, we took the cake outside and sit on the ground in the parking lot, singing happy birthday and eating off napkins. It was humiliating and absolutely devastating. If you're thinking of celebrating anything at this place -- DON'T. The staff will not support you. The management is incompetent. And if something goes wrong, there will be no one willing to fix it. What should have been a fun and special 30th birthday ended up feeling disappointing and frustrating because of how poorly we were treated. read more

OH my gosh, my husband and I went here for our anniversary and had a BLAST. It was such a great option for us other than the typical dinner and a movie ordeal we've done so many times before. Reasonable price for rentals, especially since you can skate for 4 hours. Let me start by saying I am 100% AMATEUR at skating. I had no idea what I was doing and looked awkward as heck, but surprisingly I was not alone. We went on Adult Night and there were a handful of other people who were new just like me, which was comforting. If you are anticipating going but are nervous about being a first-timer, don't worry, people were extremely forgiving and understanding. my friends and I were looking for a fun little activity to do on the weekend and we were recommended to check out play land. I was a little hesitant at first because I am not good at rollerskating whatsoever but I thought it was gonna be really fun and from the photos the vibes look like 90s which was so cool. Play land is tucked in down a residential area, but it has ample parking and is easily accessible. We decided to go after eight which was adult hours and I'm so glad we did because it wasn't as packed. I'll check in all you had to do was show your ID and pick your skates. They have a variety of skates from four rounds to rollerblades. I'm so glad that it was very affordable because it's something that I could see myself doing in the future as a past time. Once I got my skates, I got straight into the rink and I feel like a kid again. The music they're playing was on point and they were playing a variety of 80s 90s and 2000s hits. Although there were very good people in the rink, they stuck to the inner rink and slower people could be in the outer rink, which I have appreciated. I came here on a Saturday night . Overall my experience was okay . Skating rink is mid-sized and can get crowded really fast . Let me start off by saying the bartenders hands down may be the best respectful workers they have . Drinks were great. Customer service definitely needs to be worked on (disregarding the bartenders). Front desk greeted my group of 4 with great customer service and was very respectful. we got our tickets and unfortunately waited almost 10 minutes to get our skates . Both the male and female workers made eye contact with each person of my group and continued to help EVERY other person except our group. Very dismissive, until a kind fellow customer seen we were waiting before they had walked up , spoke on our behalf then we were finally acknowledged and provided skates. I then ordered food , waited 1hr for a kids pizza and fries . I complained after about 30 minutes after ordering about the wait and then was explained My waiter was in training and said he had delivered the pizza to my table but "the people that were sitting there said they didn't order anything " (neither my friends or I were approached ) then took the food back to the kitchen but was being remade . 15 minutes after, I then asked again about the wait & was explained that the kitchen made the wrong pizza and I would have to wait another 10 minutes for the kids pizza to be remade . That can be a little intense, but it depends on the collection of kids and parties that are going on there. The staff have all been nice and helpful.
