The rest of the night needed a little more attention. The burgers. These are proper smash burgers. The patties are pressed thin and seared hard, with dark, lacy, crispy edges that crunch before they melt into beefy, juicy goodness. They come on glossy, golden toasted buns with crisp shredded lettuce, and each one has a pepperoncini pinned on top like a small trophy. The star of our spread came open-faced and fully dressed: cheese melted into every crevice, orange sauce dripping over the edges, plus tomato, lettuce, and caramelized bits of beef that make you lean over the box so you don't wear it home. The fries. Cooked in beef tallow, and you can taste it. They're golden, crisp outside, fluffy inside, and have a rich, savory flavor that vegetable oil just can't match. My one piece of advice for Tanner's: don't change a thing. The hot dog. I went with the hot dog, and it was very good. It had a nice snap, was full of flavor, and came wrapped in foil like a gift I was happy to open. The not-so-prime part. We went on a Sunday night and tried to order online, but online ordering is turned off on weekends because it's "too hard to manage." So we stood in line, ordered in person, and waited. Prices are a bit high, and every sauce costs extra, so watch the extras if you're watching your budget. For this quality, I'm not complaining. Red Rooster sports bar has been serving the community of Oceanside for over 60 years. Even though they recently had a change of ownership, the new owners are also local and they left local management in charge. This effectively means that nothing has changed, and they are still providing some of the best bar, food and ambience, as well as drinks! They just cleaned up the bathrooms and a little bit of the interior decor. When it comes to food, the Red Rooster is known for their famous Rooster Burger. This burger is legendary within the community. I also love their crispy fries that are well seasoned. More recently, they have also added $.69 chicken wings on Wednesdays. This deal is available with the purchase of a beer. They also have cider available as well. Although they have a few basic flavors on their regular chicken wing menu, on Wednesdays, they add a lot more flavors to the special. These sauce, flavors alternate weekly, and it adds a nice variety. Most recently, I enjoyed the teriyaki, the bourbon bbq, honey mustard, general tso and my favorite is the lemon pepper. The interior looks much like a divey sports bar, equipped with one pool table and a few high-table seating available. There is also a backyard seating area with a fire pit, that is also fenced off. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the Red Rooster at least once to experience their burger, their chicken wings, and a small piece of historic Oceanside vibes.
