Pino's is a pizzeria that makes pizza with presumably real cheese on it, so I was very disappointed when the cheese fries I ordered came drenched in 5lbs. of fake cheese wiz. When hanging out in Brookline at 12:30 AM... after a couple glasses of wine and about 6 back-to-back episodes of Lost Season 4... The munchies set in. Much like the majority of Boston (minus a few food-serving bars, and a few joints in Chinatown), Brookline is lifeless and closed... And all we need is a damn pizza to hold us through the next four episodes... So we walked... Coolidge Corner... Cleveland Circle... and then... there it was. Our beacon of hope in the seemingly hopeless and hungry night... Pino's. Packed with teenagers and young college students, Pino's had our pizza pie ready in under a half hour, despite the crowd. And it was pretty damn good pizza too! We got the pizza home, had our late night feast, and watched some more lost... then the dog got up on the counter and ate the other half. read more

Los Angeles is great and all, but all we have here are lame fancy "artisan" pizzas that are no doubt tasty, but cannot be compared to a simple slice of NY-style cheese. The closest I can get to that in LA is probably at Costco or Sbarro (so sad). With that said, I didn't expect to find bomb pizza in Boston, but after drinking all day, running on alcohol, and not wanting to walk far, we walked across the street from our friend's place and got pizza from Pino's. During a 3-day stay in Brighton, I came here twice to get pizza. Actually, twice in one night. So good and so cheap. One slice was around $2. For Choice of Pizza places we picked the best west Boston has to offer: Pino's Pizza! Pinos is conveniently located right in the heart of Brighton's Cleveland circle andis easily accessible from the Green Line B, C or D lines or route 9 and is near the mass pike (tons of cheap coin parking out front) It is a rather nice and clean restaurant with a very helpful staff and nice view of the Chestnut Hill reservoir for when you leave. Pino's specializes in Thin Crust Gourmet Pizza's. (So if you prefer the thick rubbery crusts of Uno's or Domino's, this place is not for you...since you have no taste!) They are well known for using the best ingredients, cooked to perfection, served with Flair (No...not Rick Flair, the Professional Wrestler, But with a certain elegance mixed with Élan) We ordered a "Large Hawaiian" (no...they did not bring out a fat person from Hawaii) a large Hawaiian is a large cheese pizza with pineapple and ham (for under $20 with two drinks, it's a real steal for a nice dinner for two). At most pizza places you would need to be crazy to order this since the pineapple is straight from a can (leaving your pizza with a dreaded "canny" taste) and ham that was frozen (eeeeewwww!!!) But at Pino's the pineapple comes from a pineapple (who would have guessed) and the ham from a high end deli, so it gives your pizza that "ooo...its soooo good!" quality. The cheese is great to but it is the sauce that really sets Pino's apart. With the rising cost of tomatoes, most pizza places use the worst quality of sauce (That is why pizza tested better when you were a kid) But Pinos uses the highest quality of tomato sauce; more akin to what is on your $80 pasta dinner at the finest North end eateries then a pizza place. All of this results in an unequaled pizza experience and our pizza was indeed DELICIOUS!!! But here is what was even more delicious: And after 20 minutes of Binge eating....I emerged VICTORIOUS!!! I was able to eat 5 pieces of the pizza in the time it took Luciene to eat 3 pieces. Yeah. I know. This was kind of like cheating to have a pizza place be one of our eating contest rounds since we Americans are experts at scarfing down Pizza fast (that's the main thing we learn in college besides Beer pong) and I knew I would beat Luciene when she looked on in Horror as I turned two pieces into a pizza sandwich by putting them one on top of the other. "Well!" I exclaimed pridefully, "I guess they did not teach you EVEYTHING at those award winning schools you went to in China?" LETS! GET! READAYYY-TO-RUUMMMBBBLLLE!!!!! I've gotta admit, my cheesey idea to pit Pino vs Presto came from a Sunday viewing of the Phantom Gourmet. Yeah, the Andelman Brothers are annoying, and yeah, I rarely agree with the phantom's reviews, but whatever, this is how i spend my hungover Sunday mornings with my girlfriend. So effectively this yelp is a product of Fat Kid See, Fat Kid Do. Who's pizza king of Cleveland Circle? My unbiased tastebuds at yo' service.. The test: To keep the environment as controlled as possibleI had a slice of cheese pizza from both Pino and Presto. My wonderful assistant (read tolerant girlfriend) went in and bought slices and then put one of each in both boxes so I wouldn't know which was which. This is serious business... Amed with napkins swiped from Boloco and a can of Pepsi, we walked over to the park to begin the 'testing'. My method was pretty simple.... I took three bites of each, 2 from the cheesey part, and then one at the crust, and then a big gulp of soda; this was then repeated for the other slice in order to insure that both were sampled before they cooled off (It was windy out!). Please note: The evaluation will be on the SSCCCG Scale (Yeah, I just came up with this): Size, Sauce, Crust: Edge and Crust: Pie wedge, Cost, Cheese, and finally, the Greasey Factor So now that it's clear that I have no life (which by in large is true) here are the results.... Noting that Size and Slice are negated as both were equally cheap and generous in size. Slice 1: Sauce - Good, but a bit sweet; did not taste homemade, but unique Crust: Edge - Soft in the middle but slight flakeiness, and a touch of cheweyness in the good way. Light flavor with a hint of sweetness. Crust: Pie wedge - Thin, flakey, but thick enough to maintain structural integrity for consumption. Cheese: High quality; light white in color and remains adhered to the slice very well though it is cheesey and stringy in consistancy. Greasey Factor: Minimal Greezeynesss; a lighter slice to be sure. Slice 2: Sauce: Heavier more authentic tasting spicey sauce; dark red and thick-ish consistancy Crust: Edge: Crispy with slightly tough chew to it; dark and "crusty/crunchy". Crust: Pie wedge: Medium/Thin, slighly chewey, good structural integrity Cheese: cooked longer and thus darker in appearance; stronger and heavier cheese that is bit through, not pulled apart. Greasey Factor; not overtly greazzzey, but def. oily as a result of the heavier cheese combo used for this recipe. Evaluation: I'm at a loss here; even after 2 days of reflection, I haven't been able to make a clear cut decision on the "SUPERIOR SLICE" competition of 2008. I feel like I'm being forced to compare and choose btw Manny and Big Papi.... One's a sure fire hall of famer- the other a clutch hero. How can you promote one with out discounting the other...This may be the most retarded quasi-competition/comparison I've ever partaken in... A few thoughts.... Slice 1: This is the best pizza crust I think I've ever tasted. Chewey, but light and flakey. A doughy flavor with a touch of flower and sweetness to it. It's honestly close to being the deal breaker it's so good... BUT, there's a but... The sauce, is really borderline sub-par. Color was almost orangy and sweet, and really thin in consistancy. This wasn't noted in most bites as its masked by the cheese, but when getting close to the crust and you get a full sauce bite with no cheese... it was really notable. If you weren't doing a side by side comparison it wouldn't be so glaring, but when directly compared? Not even close to slice 2 sauce-wise. Slice 2: a heavier pizza; more similar to Regina's (Please note that this is not necessarily representative of a good thing), but not as cheesey and greezy. The sauce here is superior; spicey and a bit more intricate with a deeper, richer color. And the greasiness is at a good level- you can taste and see the grease, but you don't feel like a pimple faced teenager when you're done. The crust here is ok, but nothing memorable; the cheese is better, but not astounding in any way. So which was which? Slice One, and my day time sober cheese slice selection: PRESTO! Despite the subpar sauce, the crust here was almost the best I've ever had; essentially it was like Ernesto's (my vote for best pizza in the city) but with bad sauce. A final thought: If I was craving pizza at 2am after pounding 30 beers at a Tailgate or one of hte local watering holes, I think i'd prefer the take at Pino's. It's heavier and more satisfying to the fat kids tummy factor. That and the fact that Pino's vintage blinking sign would be really entertaining when you are wasted. Although the random tree growing inside Presto's is pretty cool too. The debate continues.... OK, thats the worlds longest review. If you read all of it, I'm truly sorry. read more

I ordered a calzone for delivery yesterday. It arrived pretty quickly but sad to say, it was "meh" at best!!! It had no flavor, the cheese was tasteless and not even gooey and the crust was bland, just a pizza dough folded over but with no flavor and no cheese sprinkled on the outside of it for flavor or appeal..... Found out about Pino's Pizza in Coolidge Corner (Oopsie, was told that it's Cleveland Circle) from this website. It was fantastic! I ordered a large cheese, tomato and italian sausage pizza over the phone for takeout, and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. This was at noon on a Saturday. The dough wasn't greasy, or too corn meal-y on the bottom. The sausage wasn't what I expected. It was sliced sausages. Guess i've always gotten sausage crumbles before. Be sure to have your own parmesan cheese and/or red pepper flakes since I was told they don't have any for take out. Oh, yeah, I ate half the pizza in one sitting. read more

i was raised in brookline and everyone knows it's the only place to go eat cheap pizza. Not only that they're open late night, they deliver, the people who work there are super friendly (they use to buy lollipops for my fundraiser)and the loaction convienent. if it's late you're waiting for the train across the street, where better than to go to pinos grab some hot chocolate and wait? I'm not going to lie tho, there was one time when i think they reheated the pizza and the crust was so hard i bit into and it like cut the roof of my mouth (a few friends have had similar experiences) Althought this has has not deterred me, granted I haven't been as enthusiastic to go back there and i now check the softness of the crust. I have to give Pino's 5 stars. It's the pizza I grew up on as a child and I keep coming back even though I live an hour away in Worcester. Nothing...and I mean nothing...tops this pizza for me. Maybe it's the nostalgia, but I love a piping hot pizza from this place. The crust is always crispy and perfectly thin, yet holds the cheese & toppings well. My personal favorite is a simple mushroom. My husband loves getting a slice of the thick sicilian pizza. The little old man has been here since I was a kid and he even still remembers my sister when she goes in. This is truly a well run establishment and I've never had bad service or bad food. People used to fight over whether Presto's a few doors down was better. Well, they are closed and Pino's still survives. I rest my case. Love you Pinos! read more

We are lucky to live by Pino's! Their pizza is delicious and their workers are awesome! I try to not come here every chance I get, but how can I not?! The sauce to cheese ratio is SPOT ON. Also tried the Sicilian Pizza. Not the hugest fan of this type of pizza, but the bbq chicken was delish! I'm also a favorite of their sandwiches. Just ordered a pizza and wings also mozzarella sticks and a dite Pepsi well was supposed to get everything at 6pm but they came at 5 so I sent it back to them and called and explained to them that I needed it for 6 as I had someone joining me for dinner no problem so the guy told me on the phone that it was ok no problem he would just make a new pie and everything else that I ordered well I got everything at 6 and noway it was a fresh pie also the mozzarella sticks I could've bounced off the wall the pie taste like cardboard box and I am a diabetic and I have a regular Pepsi not diet but I must say the chicken wings were good everything else was garbage I don't think I will ever ever order from them again I would never want that experience again especially when I was entertaining I wish I could've given it a negative review that's how bad everything was sorry Pino but you are definitely off the list I am a cook myself and I know that the pie wings and mozzarella sticks were just sitting on top of your oven also if you have a advertise a order of mozzarella sticks equal six why did I get five and also the buffalo wings an order is nine why did I get eight I think that's foul play just not right guys read more

There was once a great pizza battle on the streets of Cleveland Circle. I speak of none other than Pino's vs. Presto's. Pino's claimed victory in the early summer of 2012 when Presto's closed it doors. Pino's is your typical looking take out pizza joint, a few booths and tables with the pick up/order counter in the rear. Pino's serves and is known for the New York Neapolitan style pizza but also offer Sicilian style. Ordering was simple and we only waited around 8 minutes for our pizza to be ready. The holy trinity of shakers (Parmesan/Romano, oregano, crushed red pepper) were available. The Pie: The pizza came out hot, with a simple, crushed tomato sauce, good mozzarella cheese, with an excellent melt. The one downside was the crust. The crust however was forgettable with little flavor and was a little over cooked. Overall Pino's offers a solid overall pizza and is an excellent choice for a take out pizza place. The Circle boasts not one but two great pizzerias, Pino's and Presto. Which is better? Do I have to choose? In college, it was an easy choice as I always stuck with Pino's. Though I gravitate towards Presto these days its mostly because I'm getting whole pies. If I'm looking for slices, Pino's would win out. While I find their whole pizza's a little inconsistant, they always seem to get the slices just right. When they are on their game, what sets them apart from Presto is how flavorful their pizza is. Its got a lot of character and is more than your usual slice. Boston can't quite compare with New Haven or New York pizza on getting the basic formula to greasy perfection, but when they try for something just a little different the results can be very satisfying. Conan O'Brien apparently loves Pino's and stops here whenever he's home from New York. I can't argue with him. The Circle enjoys two great spots for pizza, each unique and pleasing in their own ways. I ordered out a pizza with extra cheese and peperoni. The topings were great...maybe even a little too much peperoni. But the sauce was a little off--a bit more sweet than i would have liked. But the pizza itself was huge, so you get your money's worth. Pino's holds a spacial place in my heart. I've been coming here since I've had a license. My friends and I would hang out in a smokey car or basement and when we got hungry, Pinos was THE PLACE to go. While it's not much to look at, this little hole in the wall serves up some the greasiest slices around. I would like to mention that while the shop itself may lack in aesthetics, the young BC girls that frequent this establishment are pretty easy on the eyes. There is almost a complete absence of tomato sauce on they're pie. And you know what I don't care. Sometimes after 15 years of eating acid rich food, your heart burn kicks in and maybe you want only trace amounts of sauce on your pie. Twelve years later and not much has changed. It's still my go to spot for some late night shwaggy pizza. Those large greasy slices really help to soak up the booze and always bring a smile to my face. I used to live around the corner from Pinos and it was my favorite restaurant of all time in that area.... I seriously used to go there at least 2 times a week. The pizza combo deals are pretty amazing because they are usually extremely quick, and the pizza is amazing. Sometimes, I will drive across the city just to get to Pino's for a slice. The people that work there are extremely nice and friendly. I may or many not have been in their inebriated and they served me without any issue. Great for late night. read more
