I'm sad. This has been one of my go to restaurants when I visit Sonora every year. First the good. The wait staff was wonderful. We mentioned two food allergies and she did her due diligence to try and accommodate us. She verified if food would be ok for us and told us if it wasn't. She offered alternatives when available. The sad/bad. They couldn't accommodate a dairy allergy. The menu item beef ravioli is actually beef with cheese. With the garlic bread they were happy to leave off the cheese but the garlic sauce has milk. We tried to find something but ultimately left for another place. We will miss you. read more

We are not Sonora locals and just happened to be in the area yesterday. Me, my husband and son were starving so we looked up restaurants close by and found Pinocchio's. we started off with the Sicilian Sausage soup and it was delicious. My son had the pastrami sandwich and both me and my husband had the lasagna rossa. I am typically on the criticizing side of lasagna. I love it, but am often disappointed in the way many restaurants serve it. This was hands down the best lasagna we ever had. EVER. Some reviewer said it was bland. They need to have their taste buds checked out because this was so incredibly flavorful. I could have eaten the sauce alone with a spoon. It was just that good. We live about an hour away and I can tell you we will be back to visit as often as we can. The server was also incredibly helpful in making recommendations and was very accommodating when we changed part of the order to take out mid-meal. (Large portions) read more

Needed food for a wedding rehearsal dinner and was told to come here. They hit it out of the park!!!! The meat and vegi lasagne were simply delicious. The two huge salads they put in my nice bowls were beautifully arranged. The garlic bread was a huge hit. And the cheese tortellinis in white sauce was a huge hit with kids and adults. They were so nice to work with. The food was ready and the prices were incredible. I can't say enough nice things about their food and ease of service. We love their vegi oven baked sandwich too. OK, first I will say that I miss the Pinocchio's that used to be in Merced many years ago, and am totally biased! Not only do I love this type of Italian American food, but I also love and miss Joey, who made it and ran a great place here for several years. Come back here, Joey!!! Alas it is not to be, so a year or so ago we all drove to Sonora for a great meal and a time of catching up. The Sonora store was even cuter with lots of Pinocchio-themed decorations, and the food was just as good as I remembered from the Merced days! If you like oven baked sandwiches, you are gonna LOVE theirs. I recommend the Jiminy Cricket...three kinds of meat, cheese, pepperoncini and onions (or not, if you don't like them), all melted on crunchy bread--- Yum! They've got great meatball and Italian sausage sandwiches too. And they are BIG!!! The half sandwich and salad combo is a really filling meal, and if you get the full size, you can either split it with someone or have quite a bit to wrap up and take home. One nice surprise is that the salad you get with the half sandwich is really fantastic--way beyond what some places give you as a side salad. It was very fresh, with romaine lettuce (NOT iceburg ---uuughh!) olives, cheese and tomatoes. I had the minestrone this time, which was fine, but next time I'd get the salad just because it was so nice looking. They also offer some traditional pasta dishes and lasagna if you want fork food. Atmosphere is very small and casual and it does fill up at lunchtime, but when our family of 5 went, they made an immediate effort to find a table and pull up an extra chair so we could all sit together. Customer service is pretty fast and very polite. Overall, just a nice family place or good for your lunch break from work. Regarding the comments on the cafe's cash/check only policy, yes it is a little unusual not to take credit cards, but I think it's nice that he still takes checks. It's a fact that credit card per-use fees can literally nickel and dime a small business to death, especially when they do a high volume of small sales, so I'd imagine that's the reason for not taking cards. You can get your lunch for about 10, plus drink and tip, so just plan accordingly. The owners are hardworking people with longstanding family ties to the Sonora area, and I think their regular customers find it worthwhile to pay cash for a nice quality meal in a friendly little spot. It's a local favorite, and why not? Clean place, good food, come-as you-are setting, and prompt service are all there. The day we went it was obvious that most were repeat customers who enjoyed running into other locals and talking with the owner. If you like Italian Americain casual food, try it! You'll get a great meal and if you get the chance to meet Joey, you will make a new friend who actually thanks his customers and remembers their names. Pinocchio's is a great little Italian restaurant in Sonora. Pinocchio's is easily a top 5 restaurant in the county maybe even top 3. Great service begins as soon as you walk in the door. Breads are chewy and soft, pasta is tender, chicken in moist and sandwiches are killer. We try something new on the menu every time we eat there and have yet to find a negative. So we decided to stop in at Pinocchios after looking at the online reviews for restaurants in Sonora! This place has good ratings so we came on in and tried a pasta dish and the Cricket sandwich. Of the two options, the sandwich was the winner. Even a half portion was still quite large, and the flavors were all on point. The pasta and sauce were so-so, tasted frozen and canned, something we could've made at home. For the price, however, we felt the meal was a lot of tasty food for a good deal. The decor is fun with the Pinocchio theme showing up in all sorts of memorabilia and collectibles and we had a good time looking around. Otherwise it had kind of an 80s diner feel... A bit hole in the wall, too, so I'm glad the online reviews pointed us here because just driving by we would've never noticed it. I'd say it's worth stopping in for some good food at a good price; not 5-star but still a good time. read more

Great place for lunch. Come very hungry as the portions are extremely large. Ordered a half sub sandwich and thought I was getting a full size sub. Bread quite good and very fresh. Everyone was leaving with a box with leftovers. Different soups each day, my favorite is seafood chowder on Tuesdays. Wife and I split a half sub and each order a cup of soup. Went to Pinocchio's with la familia on New Year's Eve for lunch and was delighted with the soups and sandwich we tried. The part however that was more impressive was the customer service. After leaving the restaurant we drove to go play at a snow park (45 min. away). When I reached for my credit card to pay at the park it was not there. I then called Pinocchio's and was relieved that it was there. The issue however was we were 45 min. away and it was closing time. There was not time to go back and the restaurant would be closed for the next couple of days for New Year's and I needed it to check into our hotel. I asked Sarah if it would be possible to drop it off at our hotel and she said yes. I then told her to please charge some $ on my credit card for her troubles and she didn't. When we got to the hotel my credit card was there! The next time we are in Sonora I know where we'll be going for great food and even better customer service. read more

Let me start by saying I love this place and eat there every time I'm in town to visit family. However today's experience was not so great. I got an order to go that when it was given to me I was thinking wow this is packaged so nice and the two meals separate. Once I got back to my parents I learned that the Ajus had exploded and cover my seat if my car as well as soaked the sandwiches. I called right away and told them of the situation and they said they would remake the sandwiches if I could come back. So I drove the 15 minutes back from Jamestown with the food so they could see what happened and maybe get a better idea of how to package it. I understand accidents happen so I was not mad about it but when I got there but when I was not apologized too and was treated like it was my fault they were having to remake food put an ill taste in my mouth. I gave the cute little young lady a suggestion of how to wrap the hot Ajus up so that doesn't happen to another guest as I am a restaurant manager and in catering so I really do understand how this happens and that it was just an accident. It however have been nice to have Joe the owner come to the front and talk to me about it and defuse the situation. After getting the food the Ajus again was placed on top of the sandwich not wrapped up like I suggested to the young lady. I finally got to eat an hour later and the food was great as always but now I get to suck Ajus out of my passenger seat of my car and shampoo it. Not how I wanted to spend my afternoon. read more
