Revisited Pinnacle Peak for the first time in many years. Last trip, it was just not good, I probably would have rated it a 2 star. But, we decided as a group to give it a try again. We went on a Monday right at 5:00pm - it was not very crowded, yet. We were seated right away and the drink order taken - they do have a bar, but we just went with soft drinks, tea, and coffee. After a quick review of the menu - the prices are definitely up all across their items (to give you an estimate - it was a couple hundred for the 6 of us in the end). We ordered Cowgirl steaks, Pit Beef, a Filet, and a Chicken breast dinner. Good variety across the menu - all the entrees were very good (quite an improvement from last visit). Sides were good - beans (thumbs up), bread (how about toasted?), and mushrooms (yummy with the steak). Service was good - could have checked back and filled drinks better. Worst food I have ever received at a restaurant. I ordered the shredded beef dinner which came with 2 tortillas, shredded cheese and tomato. A good amount of shredded beef was provided, but it was extremely dry and tough and inedible. The tortilla was burnt and had that burnt smell which lingered. 2 tomato slices were given which where not even close to being ripe and the hard white centers were basically the whole slice with only a little red on the edges. A decent cook would have been embarrassed to serve those tomatoes. My dining partner got a steak which he said was tough and tasteless. The beans looked like watery bean soup and had an off taste to them. The salad dressing was good and the service was excellent. read more

My steak was excellent, but the rest of the meal was just "okay". My suggestions: (1) add some seasoning to the green beans (2) bread was cold, tasted like plain white bread. Texas toast would be a much better option (3) consider putting the salad in a bigger bowl. It was hard to eat . Lettuce kept falling out and could not mix in the dressing. It was such a fun meal for my family. I love the western ambience. Our server Doc, was excellent. He steered us through the menu and always checked in on us, even with a surprisingly packed dining room for a Wednesday night. Highlights were the rib eye, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and salad with ranch. Kudos to the man in the grill pit, bc the steak was . We weren't very fond of the ranch beans, brisket, the red salsa and greens, but still enjoyed the meal overall. Not necessarily a place I'd come to just for the food. I'm not exactly sure why there's a decent amount of good reviews for this restaurant; food, service, and discrimination all in one visit. We called ahead to reserve a table for 13 people at 6PM. We arrive at 6, was seated at a table and then told us that we had to get up because they accidentally gave away our table. We were seated 30 minutes later (our group was separated into two tables). As soon as we sat down, our waitress, Desperado (assuming that is her restaurant's alias), took all of our drink orders. When our African-American friend tried to put her order in, Desperado interrupted her "nothing? Ok". After waving her down to order our friend her wine, we placed our orders. Received our appetizers soon after, but our dinner came out an hour later (not to mention a lot of the food that came with our food was missing). Our orders were wrong but we were so hungry, we didn't even bother to send it back. I ordered my steak medium rare, received a medium well steak. Food was bland and was not cooked to order. We left at 8:45, most of our time was spent witnessing tables that were sat after ours, begin and finish our meals before us. To top it off, once we gave the waitress our credit cards, we were scolded for not wrapping the receipt around our cards. We left the restaurants with our cards thrown in front of our faces. Pinnacle Peak is one harmonica, a camp fire, and a few horses away from a true cowboy cookout. While listed as a steakhouse, you would do better by expecting a cowboy cookout, with delicious food, family style sides, and hospitality served nightly. Those looking for the 2 inch thick topped in butter and garlic filet would do themselves a favor by heading over to one of the many great steak houses in the northern part of Tucson. Pinnacle Peak goes full cowboy style by serving up steaks and ribs over mesquite smoke. The steaks are delicious, the ribs are some of the best I've had, and the overall friendliness of the staff is incredible. You may find the ambiance of the restaurant to be a bit cramped, but that is also part of the charm. It's a great match to the authentic Trail Dust Town that the restaurant is housed within, complete with western show and rides. Pinnacle Peak is a Tucson "must do," but don't go looking for something that isn't there... this is a western cookout through and through and I bet it's one that you won't forget. read more

This is my least favorite "steak house". The steaks were over cooked and we were given a large bowl of beans that were not appealing nor tasty. The service lacked but I don't know if it was just our server. It was just an overall bad experience, it felt like people had attitude and weren't helpful whatsoever. When you're in that situation I don't want to say "my steak is a dry brick" and it was supposed to be medium-rare to rare. There is just always a fear that an unhappy server would tarnish your food. So you live with this and end up just not coming back to the establishment. It was such a nice idea of cutting people's ties off and it makes this place memorable to try and get tourists in but being a local I don't love this place. They have a few rides you can go on surrounding the area for kids and a train adults can ride on. I would come back to bring kids on the rides but I would not come back for the food it's really just not worth it. If you want steak you're better off trying really anywhere else. read more

Pinnacle Peak is not the experience that it used to be. The food is still good, not great but still good. The menu is expanded to include some new items to appeal to a broader cliente. The steaks ordered in our group were ok but not well seasoned and one was overdone. The ribs were very very fatty and the salmon was quite dry. One of the baked potatoes was ordered "loaded" and the additional toppings were brought quite a bit later and only after an additional request. Although we requested extra butter none was provided until the third request. Courses were rushed, the entree came only a few minutes after the salads were delivered. We were less than halfway through the entree course when we were asked if we wanted dessert and the.check delivered. Check was all on one bill though we asked for separate checks initially. Drinks were not refilled in a timely manner. Overall not the place to have a leisurely meal and conversation with friends that it used to be. read more

"The ole girl ain't what she used to be."Wife and I went to Pinnacle Peak for dinner last week and found the restaurant's food average at best. We were quickly seated at a booth near the back of the restaurant. I ordered a Cow Girl ($28.99). Wife ordered the Ribeye ($29.99). The very attentive waiter soon brought us the complimentary salad. A decent salad that reminded me of a store bought bagged salad. We also received a large helping of "same day freshly made" bread. It was ok, but considering we were eating an hour after the place opened, it was stale. Soon our steaks and a large bowl of bland ranch style beans arrived. My medium cooked steak was cooked fine, but rather tough/chewy. It had average taste. My wife's ribeye was also lacking in much flavor. Halfway through our meal a large party of 15 people was seated at a large table within arms reach (seriously). The restaurant was half full at most and I wish we/they had been seated at the numerous other open booths/tables. This definitely affected our dinner. The waiter even apologized. I haven't been to Pinnacle Peak for 40 years. I found the place a good place for tourist to go with young kids, but not a place to go for a memorable steak. read more

Excellent steak house. Open area to see where the steaks are grilled. This place is huge! Inside, outside themed. It was really cool. There's even a night show there outside. The rib eye steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare. I ordered the rib eye, salad, and baked potato. I was surprised to see some beans come to the table; of which the beans were awesome. I put some beans on top of the potato with some butter and sour cream - bam! Great steak for a great price. I think the rib eye dinner plate was $25. See pics. Great spot for a steak! Sadly, I think this place has gone slightly downhill food wise...This place was a special part of my childhood and today, when I went after not having gone for years, I was very sad to see how different it had become. We had a party of 6 including my 93 yr old grandma, I drove OVER 7 hours into town, just to be with her and take her SPECIFICALLY HERE. I literally checked into my hotel yesterday and check out tomorrow to head back home. Our original server was named Fawn, personally, I would fire her. I'm not one to "get the manager" but Fawn's behavior caused me great anger and frustration. She was incredibly sarcastic (not in a fun way), incredibly short, her attention was incredibly dispersed (the restaurant just opened for the evening), she would argue when my sister and I both sent back our drinks because they tasted horrendous, she would make comments under her breath and talked to me like I was an idiot. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore so I went to the manager (who barely cared about my issues), and I asked him for a new server. As I was speaking with the manager, Fawn was still at our table taking my sisters order, I saw her stare at me the entire time I was speaking to the manager and according to my sister she was mumbling insults under her breath after saying "oh my god". The manager honestly didn't seem to care at all about how nasty Fawn was to us. He argued with me a bit saying that he would have to place us back on a waitlist because he has no other server who can take our table. I told him to switch our waitress with another server. He never told me that he fixed the issue but sooner than later, another waiter came over and was a lot more kind. The food- I'm SO disappointed. My sister, friend and I each ordered the $31 Cowboy special. My sister ordered her steak med and it came out med/rare. My friends steak was not cut evenly so therefore didn't cook evenly. My steak was cooked correctly but was nothing short of sad. None of the steaks had flavor, I mean lacking something as simple as salt and just weren't good in general, texturally and otherwise. I'm also pretty sure their cuts of meat aren't the greatest of quality. I'm an avid steak eater, so I'm well aware of a good quality piece of meat ( I'm aware of prime vs choice cuts etc etc) and tonight, the steaks were not appetizing at all. We also got the shredded meat and chili appetizer. This too, was sad. The meat was very dry, didn't taste freshly made. The rest of it was lackluster as well. The sweet tea that I got, even that was subpar and I had to order an RC instead. The tea was WAY TOO sweet, it didn't even taste like tea anymore, almost had a chemical taste to it. My grandmas steak (bone in ribeye) was rare instead of med/rare, so she sent that back. I hate to sound heartless but the steaks were so unpleasant that neither my friend, my sister or myself came close to finishing our steaks, we took them to go so as to not make my grandma feel bad, as coming here again was her idea. We all 3 tossed our steaks, over $90 worth of food, garbage. My nephew had a kids hotdog which was fine. My other nephew had the kids Mac n cheese, that he couldn't even eat, it tasted that bad, and not fresh. My niece got the kids chicken tenders and couldn't eat that. Said her chicken tasted "funny". Even our end of the meal cobblers weren't that good, we tried apple and peach. About the only things edible tonight were the baked potatoes, beans, a hot dog, some bread with butter and my friends bottled Coors lights. They removed the 3 kids meals from our check and the 2 cocktails that my sister and I had to send back. Our bill was still $168. This saddens me, it's a place from my childhood that just doesn't have the magic anymore. I'm really upset that we wasted $168 on food, we wanted to have more items taken off of our check but we didn't want to deal with the uninterested manager and again, we didn't want to make my grandma feel bad. So we sucked up the experience. The menu is also pretty small, I was surprised to see so little selections of entrees and even the appetizers. I'm in no way trying to be disrespectful or rude, this review is completely honest and this experience really really upset myself and my family. Sadly. I will leave this restaurant as a childhood memory and never return. Unfortunate to see how far PP has declined. Gave my friend a tie (he knew what was coming) and settled on two Cowboy t-bones @ $32 a plate thinking it would be a treat for his 70th birthday. A rare (ordered medium rare), chewy, thin, non-mesquite flavored, bony steak was helped out with the lukewarm but tasty pinto beans. A dispirited cowbell announced the tie cutting to maybe 5 other tables, with dozens empty. Tiny scoop of apple cobbler and ice cream. Am I spoiled? My dad was the doctor for the butcher supplying PP and El Corral and my freezer was stocked with the best t-bones in Tucson, usually one or two a week for me. Those were awesome, these were as disappointing as the ambiance. $100+ bucks down the drain. This is a great place to come for a short night out with friends or family! The restaurant is located in traildust town with lots of small attractions around. The atmosphere is really fun and they have ties hung up all around the restaurant. The food is good, you get alot of it and it's reasonably priced. All of the meals come with a salad and they bring you bread and butter while you wait. You can watch them cook your steaks depending on where you are seated in the restaurant and anything from their menu is a good choice, I personally enjoy their sandwiches. It can get very busy, including if it's a holiday or weekend so come early but the restaurant is pretty big so the wait is never too long. Great place to bring dad for a birthday or holiday and fun night out with the family and don't forget to wear your tie. read more

First of all if you've never been here and you show up on Monday it looks deserted, but you have to drive further behind. The steaks are very tasty, big, and reasonably priced compared to what you would find at another place. It's a very Meats and potato kind of place. The reason for the three stars is because the salad had way too much dressing and it took an hour to get our food. Also had the ribs, they weren't fall off the phone but decent. The restaurant is covered in ties and we saw a group of kids wear their ties and have them cut off. They were super excited and their server made a big deal out of it, seems decently kid friendly. This is my 2nd time visiting this place. It's cool but no one should ever go here for the food. The food is terrible and the prices don't reflect the quality of food at all but it does counts for the overall experience. I'm not from the area and this place is advertised as a restaurant for steaks but it really should be advertised as a place for campground food. The salad was drenched with dressing, the bread was stale. The ribeye was flavorless. A good dose of seasoning would have made a piece of tough meat a little better. The ribs were dry and flavorless covered in a ton of sauce. The only thing that was ok was the canned baked beans. They'll cut off your tie and hang it up if you wear one. It's a great place for a kid's birthday or large party. However, the food is subpar. Was invited to Pinnacle Peak for a family member's birthday. She had heard so much about the cool atmosphere and good food. Unfortunately our party of 7 were all disappointed in not only the taste of the food but also the quality (atmosphere was fun and casual). While our server was very nice, it seemed as if she was overwhelmed and it took quite some time to get our bar/food order taken. Once our food arrived to the table, many of the temperatures we had requested our steaks to be cooked to were over done. The steaks had zero seasoning and the meat was tough. Most of our party drowned their steaks in A1 sauce (which you shouldn't want to do at a steakhouse) or got to-go boxes to bring the leftovers home to our dogs. The sides were also lacking with grey watery beans, unseasoned potatoes, plain white bread and undercooked cobbler. We all wanted to support a local restaurant and enjoy celebrating a birthday but unfortunately could not with the meal we received at Pinnacle Peak. read more
