After much hesitation, I decided to do something I really never do, write a negative review for a…read morestylist. I hate to do this, as I don't like feeling as if I'm damaging someone's livelihood, but if it keeps someone else from going through what I'm experiencing, I think it's necessary. I was in need of a new stylist so decided to try Claudia. I wanted to do a new color, and I saw she had a positive review about that service. And she did in fact do a great job! I wanted a slightly darker color than I had, and even though I didn't have any example photos, she came up with results that I really liked. But the haircut...wow. It was the worst one I've had in many years. I have very long hair which has taken me years to grow out. I told Claudia I wanted the ends cleaned up and didn't want to lose any significant amount of length. She cut 4-5 inches, about two years of growth, off. I also told her I needed some long layers around the face, to provide framing and keep my rather coarse hair from turning into a triangular poof. She did none of this. She did do some weird thing on the ends that left me hair looking much more frizzy and frayed than normal. The hairs around the bottom are all slightly different lengths. I have no idea what the purpose of this was supposed to be, but it left my hair looking a lot worse. I lost all my hair several years ago during cancer treatment and this experience has triggered some really unhappy feelings. I know it's just hair, but I had finally gotten to the point where I had kind of a cool and unusual hair look, and now it's just a standard middle-aged mom cut, and not a very good one at that. Claudia may feel this is unfair as I didn't say anything before I left, but I was honestly in a state of shock and just wanted to get home and wash it to see if it was as bad as I suspected. I also didn't want her to do anything further. I'm going to have to let it grow for many months before I'll start looking for someone to repair the damage.

The number on the certificate actually ended up being the stylist's cell phone or something, but after the initial awkward "WHO are you now"s, we set up an appointment for the next week. The salon itself isn't very noticeable from the street--it's right on 65th where lots of other businesses are, but since it's in a house you probably wouldn't know what it was. In fact, walked up the steps I was debating about whether I should ring a doorbell or not. But you walk in and, despite the cute living-room style waiting room, it's all set up like a real salon with stations and all that. Graem was the guy who offered the services for the discount, so we chatted about I wanted--highlights for the upcoming nuptials, so there was a big debate about how drastic to go. We decided to go very subtle to start out with, and he went to work. I got the scoop on the business--it's been there somewhere around 15 years and is owned by a woman who not only is a stylist but also paints all of the art that's on the wall. Sounds like a talented bunch! Well, most salons I've ever been to you can pretty much bet on sitting in the chair for an hour + while they do foils, but he zipped through in about 30 minutes (barely enough time to finish my US Weekly!). My coloring turned out nicely--maybe TOO subtle, but I'm already scheduled to go back anyway for a touch-up before the wedding. I'll probably get a little more Va-Voom then, but until then I'm totally rocking the 'chestnut undertones.' Bottom line: You should come here, even if you don't get 1/2 off!

My hair is curly and I had no idea what to do with it, so I kept it in a ponytail. I received an appointment with Andy, and can't recommend him enough! He helped me design a short hairstyle that suited my curls, while also teaching me how to care for and maintain my unique hair. He also sent me recommendations for hair products suited for my fine, yet curly hair. I only worked with Andy, but they both really seem to care for their clients, and take very good care of them. As I was coming in, another very happy customer was just finishing up. Their hair looked amazing! I am also very happy with the work Andy did for me, and the extra mile he took to educate and help me. I will definitely be returning, and will recommend No Harm to others!

I wanted to experiment with a hairstyle but I figured if it was taking too long I'd have been told. I genuinely had no idea that it was taking too long, if I had I'd have paid more or cut my losses. At no point was I demanding or anything and honestly I don't remember it taking as long as Rachel Gowin accused me of, which was an hour and 40 minutes. I had gone on my lunch break so I definitely don't remember taking a 2+ hour lunch. And if it was an issue I would have paid extra for any extra time. But I literally had no idea. Babalouise was a recommendation from a coworker, who originally recommended Diane Halcome but because of her limited availability recommended Rachel. So it is INCREDIBLY embarrassing to have been banned from the entire salon for something that seems like a misunderstanding stemming from a lack of communication. And even moreso, that since it was a personal recommendation, why would I have knowingly done something to get banned? It just doesn't make sense and I'm very embarrassed by this entire situation. I'm really just confused because if there was a way for me to make it right either now or at the time of my haircut I would have, but no opportunity was ever given to me. Nothing like this has ever happened to me anywhere else in all my life, and this entire situation is more confusing than anything.

She was very personable and asked me lots of questions about myself but nothing I had gone to the salon for was accomplished. I booked the appointment online and wrote a memo with it stating I wanted to keep the hair cut off in a braid (very important to me) and wanted face framing bangs. I figured anything the stylist wasn't comfortable doing or needed to be charged extra for, she would let me know so that I could either make an appointment elsewhere or add on the service. I arrived with washed hair so it would be easy to put the ends into a tight braid but it seemed to be a non issue for the stylist. She said something about putting it in a, "loosey goosey braid you can mess with" and I wasn't too happy with that but I told myself I could probably fix it as long something like a braid was started. What I got, well, I'll attach a picture so you can see. I almost burst into tears. No way I can make anything resembling a braid from it unfortunately. On to the face framing bangs. I told her last time I got bangs my previous stylist had to pull far from the back in order for the bangs to not separate into sections bc my forehead was prone to get oily. She nodded. Didn't pull very much hair forward but okay maybe she'd start w gradual sections. I tell her she can put the blade up to my face since I wanted the bangs in a blunt arc that curved it's way into a chin length layer around my jaw and had a pic of exactly what I wanted (which I've had before) and indicated the curve with my finger. She said she only did that with blunt straight across bangs and that people had to get haircuts that she felt worked with their body and face shape otherwise they should rethink having her cut their hair. At no point did she tell me she didn't feel like she couldn't do anything I had communicated or shown to her and I was already thirty minutes into the haircut. I had written a memo with the appointment and brought pictures. She didn't explain to me why or that she was not confident in her abilities or tell me that she didn't want to do what I had communicated to her until I felt it was too late to stop. Kind stylist overall but couldn't braid or do face framing bangs. Since that's what I went in for and communicated expectations for prior to my appointment, two stars seems equally kind.
