This is a new place brought to you by the owner of Old Country Inn. So I went in with some high expectations. Now you have to allow some slack because this is Pine. I didn't expect super fast service are 5 star food. So how was it? Not a huge menu, but what they have is really good. I was never a fan of the sub-par, greasy, overcooked bar food that Sidewinders was dishing out. I once ordered a chicken salad and they forgot the chicken. They were always a better bar than restaurant. This place is the opposite. The layout is really nice and decor, it's a lot more open and clean than Sidewinders was. I ordered the burger and it was delicious, reasonably priced and cooked perfectly to match my order: medium rare! Something I never experienced at Sidewinders. So at the end of the day why give it 4/5? Well the drinks are very overpriced. I'm not sure this is a great idea. It's going over fine with people like me that stay for the weekend, but the locals aren't going to drink there. I think they are going to struggle in the Winter if they don't serve beers at a reasonable price. I mean $12 for a pitcher of tecate? Mind you a small pitcher that barely filled two glasses? That's crazy for Phoenix, let alone pine! So hopefully they make it through some of the growing pains and survive. If they can get those drink prices down, it's a great option! Their servers are great, just like they were at sidewinders. Super friendly people who are attentive and fun to talk to. This is a great addition to a place that doesn't have a lot of options for dining out. They just need to get some cheaper priced beers and drinks instead of focusing exclusively on Hoppy Hipster IPA microbrews. read more

I really want you guys to succeed, so maybe try retraining all the waiters and waitresses on how to be attentive to the customer... like giving out menus to start. Extremely slow service on a Monday at noon. It was not crowed when we went in, it did get busier over the hour we waited for our food (party of 3). We noticed others who came in 30 minutes after us being served before us. 2 of 3 orders were wrong also received watered down mustard. Yeah meditate on that for a minute, I get watering down booze but mustard, WTH? When I asked for another side of mustard (in hopes I would get actual mustard) waitress looked at me as if to say "how much mustard could you possibly need for a burger?". Others at the table got refills of iced tea w/o solicitation, I had water but nobody refilled. I gather they must be saving the water for their condiments. Payson is only 20 minutes away, do yourself a favor eat there avoid this place. read more

Terrible terrible terrible. Slow service, and food was horrible. My daughters grilled cheese came on completely dry bread--no butter or anything. My on and j burger came and had so little topping/sauces that I thought they gave me the wrong one. The cheap generic grocery store bun was dried out and burnt like a hockey puck and mostly inedible. The bacon was mostly raw with burnt ends. Then could not get a check. Really debated the dine and dash for the first time in my life out of simply needing to get my kids home and their total disinterest in getting paid. Disastrous. read more

My friends and I stopped in here for a bite on our way home from a ziplining excursion and our stomachs were immediately growling at the smoky bbq scent wafting through the door as we walked in. They were slammed with customers and clearly short staffed but we were still greeted by a hostess within moments of our arrival at the front door. She personally cleaned off a dirty table for us, making sure to disinfect it before she cheerfully sat us down with menus. There was notably only one waitress working but she took our drink and food orders in a timely fashion. It did take quite awhile for our food to arrive but when it finally did we all tore into our meals with relish, commenting in between bites how fresh and delicious everything tasted. I was particularly appreciative of how much care was given to the presentation and quality of each of our meals. Even though the kitchen was behind and trying to get food out as fast as they could, my pulled pork sandwich was neatly stacked with a even spread of BBQ sauce and fresh coleslaw on top. It wasn't a haphazard hot mess and the fries were legit the perfect texture and doneness. My friend had nachos and you could tell that the tortilla chips were hand cut and freshly made and the toppings were evenly LAYERED between the chips. At the end of our meal, I mentioned to the waitress that we wanted to express our compliments to the cooks and she was kind enough to send the owner over to our table moments later who had come in that day to help in the kitchen because they were so shorthanded. We left with smiles on our faces and very happy bellies and I truly feel that the people working at this establishment are a genuinely lovely bunch. I have been to this restaurant 5 times since they opened. Very good food and drinks. I love that they have Kiltlifter on tap. The staff is very attentive and the live music on the weekends is an added plus. The burgers are to die for as well as the Cobb salad and deviled egg appi. My friend had the trout dip appetizer and loved it. If your in Pine, this is a must stop. read more

My wife and I were in Pine for a trail event and this was our first visit to Pinewood Tavern. Although the food was good and the atmosphere was friendly, we couldn't get over the poor service. Our waitress seemed to be in a perpetual state of annoyed. At one point, I sat with empty glasses for 10 minutes trying to get refills during dinner. Keep in mind this was Cinco de Mayo and they should have been prepared for a crowd. Not to mention this is one of the few sit down restaurants in Pine for a Saturday evening. read more

We are locals that relocated to Pine this last year. We have been there quite a few times. Service is usually hot or cold depending on who is there. The male bartender with the long hair has always given great service. Today our experience at the bar was so bad we walked out. It was clearly during shift change. The male bartender asked us right away what we wanted to drink. Gave us drinks and never returned. The female bartender Stephanie saw us sitting there and never acknowledged us. We sat there for 45 minutes waiting for a least a menu or another drink. She acknowledged the couple that sat next to us, gave them drinks, menus... for 45 minutes she ignored us and it felt like it was on purpose. Even when we tried to get her attention. Funny though.... as soon as we stood up and my husband walked away to pay the hostess and cancel our name for a table, because at least she was responsive. Stephanie quickly grabbed our empty drink classes and then wanted my attention to pay. Our drinks sat there empty for 30 minutes. I understand getting good servers/bartenders in a small town is hard to find, but I work in customer service and my husband in public safety and we understand busy and hard times. They should go to the valley to learn busy. Even in busy times they have way better service and pleasant attitudes. Sure it's a touristy town here in Pine but look at your other reviews, the service is at most dismal. And the locals should want to and enjoy going there because of the service not the opposite. read more

Visited here for the first time since new ownership and remodel. We had the bacon/deviled egg appetizer and it was ridiculously delicious! I would go back for more of those despite the poor service. Also had the chicken sandwich and it was good. We sat at the bar and watched about 6 employees talking in a group while ignoring an almost full house. No one checked back on us after we got our food and we had to flag someone down every single time we wanted to order anything. And we were ordering food & cocktails, not free iced tea refills! I really like the place, but they have a lot of work to do to bring the service level up to par. read more

We arrived at 5:15 on Saturday night. We were told that we would be the first on the list to be seated and saw her write our name on the top of the paper. She could not give us a time frame as to when a table might be empty and mentioned that a party of 13 was coming in. We asked if we could wait at the bar and then we did, ordered beverages and watched as people left and others were seated. We asked the bartender several times if we could have an empty table and were told that it depended on where we were on the list and that she was the bartender and not the hostess. She said she would get the hostess. She did speak with the hostess who then pointed to us and proceeded to speak with and seat other people. We flagged her down and she then said that she had sent over several people to ask us if we wanted this table or high top. Perhaps she sent people over to us but they never made it to us and we were never asked if we wanted a table or high top. Was it a lie? Was it confusion? Obviously, she forgot about us or misunderstood that we were waiting at the bar not eating at the bar although we kept our name on the list. If she had told the truth and said she forgot or misunderstood we would have not been upset. To misrepresent was not ok. We got seated at 6:00 but by then we had lost our appetite because of the situation. The music was great, the waitress was fine. Not sure I'm going back and certainly would not recommend it to anyone unless they don't mind being ignored or lied to. read more

We stopped at this restaurant & tavern for quick early lunch today and left pleasantly surprised. We had visited Sidewinders in the past but their food was ordinary. My wife had the Fish & Chips and I had the Cowboy burger. Both meals were very good and really liked the burger the best. I would highly recommended both. Nice job, we will be back. read more

My wife and I were seated by the hostess and were ready to order our food. The server came and told us that we have to leave the restaurant to finish eating the ice cream cones we brought in. She said it's because it's not a food we ordered at the restaurant. I explained we came to order and eat their food. We took a drive and decided by the reviews to stop at Pinewood Tavern. The only good thing I can say is the strawberry cider was delicious and my husband's beer was cold. We got our food and our sandwich was ice cold. Being in the industry for a number of years I watched the line and noticed sandwiches will sit in the window for at-least 3-4 minutes before the French fries get placed on the plate. Once we were done eating half of our sandwich our plates were left in front of us when there were only a total of 4 people at the bar. This is one of my biggest pet peeves especially when the servers/ bartenders are standing around talking to each other. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

First opportunity to stop at the Pinewood Tavern in Pine, Az. It did not disappoint! My wife ordered the Tree Hugger! A veggie burger that surpassed what she thought it would be. I ordered the Bleu Cheese Burger and it truly was delicious. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked to medium rare. Kim our server was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We arrived after lunch time but a nice crowd inside. We will return to the Pinewood Tavern. read more

My experience was beyond disappointing - I had looked forward to it opening . My pulled pork was half cooked fat - yuk but the kicker is the coleslaw on top had plastic in it- we reported to the waitress who was mortified - she couldn't find manager and asked me if I wanted more coleslaw - I said no - she took our plates to manager who discounted meal $5 - never came to apologize or anything - beyond poor customer service - the waitress was the only good part of the experience - and my husbands fish was soggy as well - not worth the money spent to try - there are much better restaurants around town with good service and management read more

My husband and i just had lunch at Pinewood Tavern and it was delish! I had the cowboy burger and my husband had the Pine rib dip. Both were very good and priced very reasonable. We shared a Adios Amigo cocktail that was yummy. Service was also excellent!!! Will stop in next time we go through Pine. read more

This used to be mainly a biker bar with food. Now it's a restaurant with a bar. My wife and I have been here several times since it changed owners and found it above average. Our only complaint is the fish and chips were very greasy both times we ordered it. Everything else we've had there was good. And the service has always been excellent. read more

Man, these guys are 2 for 2 for lousy service. The Old County Inn has done such a great job and Mike has improved Pine for the better. Tonight the manager, of the new and dysfunctional Pinewood Tavern, shared with us that 'no other food was allowed in', although our daughter has a severe corn allergy - which nearly every product comes in contact with at most restaurants. Instead of accommodating the request (after we had sat down and ordered drinks- family of 5) he asked us to leave and shared 'she can have the chicken fingers' - who knew this guy doubled as a allergy expert..... What a total douche and someone who is incapable of making a customer service decision. Options are limited in the area and we have had a place in town for there for years. Never again Mike, fire the below average staff and start over there. You are blowing your brand!! read more

I heard so many great reviews on this restaurant, I finally tried it. I am totally amazed at how many people in this area have taste buds destroyed by either cigarettes or alcohol. I had the full rack of ribs. The ribs were over cooked and dry. Also had too much dry rub. ( added flavor for the smokers & drinkers) The beans had a terrible vinegar taste as did the cole slaw. The fries tasted like they were fried in oil around 325* instead of 375*. They were limp and soggy. I have experienced way, way better. BUT, I don't smoke or drink, so my taste buds work fine. I won't be returning. I can make much better food at home. It wasn't worth the one block walk from my home. I wish the owner would allow me to show him how to make excellent food instead of mediocre food. I believe there are enough smokers and drinkers in the area to keep him in business so there is really no need for him to improve. read more

This review is not based on "just because its Pine" , but because overall, I think its an outstanding place, with great comfort food. As noted by others, same owner/operators (they are not absentee owners) as Old County Inn. The price/value is outstanding, especially the cocktails(as someone noted-in the valley -$12 - 15 each, $8 or so here. Yes, its a limited menu, but my belief is - go for quality, not quantity, and embrace the local, farm to table trend. There are other (not nearly as good) places if you want an extend menu...but if you want great food, prepared and delivered by people that really care-then go the Pinewood Tavern. read more
