Being alive for over 30 years, as an Asian American, this is the worst tomato beef chow mein I've ever had in my life. Seeing that they only had 3 stars in Yelp, I was cautious about ordering. Tomato beef chow mein is such a simple dish, I thought to myself they can't possibly mess this up. But they did. And on all levels. The dish was fully drenched in high fructose corn syrup sweet and sour generic sauce, preordered from their supplier. In fact, there was so much sauce, I felt sharp, stinging, or aching feeling in my teeth as if my teeth had an enamel erosion resulting in tooth nerve pain while eating. The sauce was overflowing and was leaking out of their styrofoam toxic to-go box. Red flag! On top of the above: 1. The chow mein was soggy and all broken. (It's supposed to have a chewy texture and long in length). This could signal that they recooked or reused old chow mein. **one review mentioned that they had char on their chow mein. I also had some in my order today, so it means old chow mein is mixed with new?** 2. The tomatoes were overcooked and mushy. It also had a foul smell. Like they picked up some rotten tomatoes inside an old garbage can. 3. Green bell peppers and squash were both undercooked. Also had a foul smell and tasted like spoiled veggies. 4. Onions. They simply just tossed it in the food before closing the to-go box. It was pungent and raw. 5. The beef wasn't edible. 80% of it had the texture of a rubber band. Beef wasn't fresh even though they tried velveting it with baking soda and flash-frying it. I feel bad for the town of Idleston. They have to experience low quality foods and poorly prepared and high prices. And I viewed all their health violations. Just wanted to puke. Clearly shows a business that is profit over people. Will not be returning. Also not sure why they added a packet of soy sauce when clearly the dish was drenched in sugar sauce. They also added a container of oil based sauce. Maybe learn how to control cost so you can reduce your prices in the your menu. read more

Awful. Just awful. We ordered generals chicken, house chow mein, salt and pepper shrimp, beef fried rice. My husband is not a picky eater, he couldn't finish this. He looked absolutely disgusted. The meat was chewy and not of "cow" origin. When I bit into generals chicken... I was overcome by this almost "bleach" like taste. Nothing about this dish was general at all. I can't even confirm that the meat used was chicken. I would actually advocate for an investigation into what meat is actually used in this kitchen. The prices were also a bit extreme for whatever it was that was served. It was absolutely 100% NOT chicken or beef that we were served that day. I didn't even send the general chicken back because I do understand everyone is going through a tough time right now. But please be forewarned.... This is NOT good. I can guarantee what we were served was NOT chicken and it was NOT fresh beef. As far as ambiance... terrible. No music. Nothing. read more

I have been here 4 or 5 times. The food is very good, however my problem is with their to go containers. They need to start using paper and wax Chinese food boxes and unfortunately they put piping hot food in styrofoam boxes. I could smell taste and see the melted styrofoam in my food. The food is so good, they have the best honey walnut shrimp in the Bay Area! They just need to change their to go boxes and this will be my favorite Chinese spot. Being that we love Chinese food in our house and love to try different establishments and show support. We decided to stay really close to home and stop in here. Was very quiet with one other person seated. We were welcomed in and sat where we chose. Provided a double sided menu with some good choices.,once we placed our order I was excited to see Thai tea on the menu. But even more surprised that it came out in.a can. (Not what I was expecting) but after tasting was not bad in taste. Our food arrived, everything smelled good and was served as family style portions. I like spice in my food but when asked for sriracha, was told they only have chilli oil. I'm not much of a fan of that. While here we also noticed cool decor on the walls and a few displaying of pineapples , hince the name. I see this spot as a cool place to have for the very small town that it is. The sweet n sour pork was a tad tough to chew but every thing else we ordered was okay.. But if passing through and Chinese food is on your agenda. Stop in and see what you think. I was exploring Isleton because of their history, and thought to myself, why not eat Chinese food in a historical Chinese-American town? The decor, in my opinion, was actually really nostalgic. Reminds me of how Chinese restaurants looked in the 80s-early 2000s with the horoscope, paper place mats and flowers. My friend and I opted for their family meal set, I forget if it was A or B option, but it came with won ton soup, 2 fried appetizers (I think shrimp and eggroll?), pork fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and maybe something else? Maybe not..can't remember now. The won ton soup came out and were so happy with it, the broth was delicious and it was a great starter. Sadly, the rest of the food was really unappetizing. The deep fried appetizers they gave us tasted like they were cooked in old grease, so it was unsettling in our stomachs. The pork fried rice looked great, but lacked flavor. The sweet and sour pork was disgusting. The meat pieces were old and over cooked, didn't even taste like meat, and they were soggy from the sauce while being incredibly dry on the inside. The veggies stir fried in looked fresh though, but that was the only pro. We couldn't finish it, most went into the trash. Altogether we paid over $50 for the both of us, no drinks just water and the 2 person meal deal, tax, and a modest tip. They also advertise they sell tamales, which I thought was interesting for a Chinese spot. read more

Everytime I drive through the Delta, I think of Pineapple Restaurant and if I have enough time to pick up some food. You see, I've only heard about this wonderful place from my cousins. They have always told me to try the Garlic Fried Chicken if I'm ever near Isleton. This was the first time that the stars aligned for the Pineapple Restaurant and Me. I was driving back to Sacramento from a short trip to Antioch. It was about 11:15am when I called in my togo order. They open at 11:30am daily. The girl on the phone was super friendly, helpful, courteous and knowledgable because she's worked there for many, many years. Here's what I ordered: Garlic Fried Chicken - Two orders, one for me and one for my cousins. Super crispy with great garlic seasoning, but overcooked. House Special Chow Fun - Two orders, one for me and one for my cousins. Foil Wrapped Chicken - One order for myself. BBQ Pork - One order for myself. I ate this in the car while driving. It was obviously homemade, because it didn't look like BBQ Pork from a Chinese market and the texture was off a bit. It didn't have a lot of marinade, so the taste was lacking and it was dry inside. They serve it with hot mustard, but I didn't try it. I wouldn't order it again, but that's just my opinion. If you are wondering why I didn't describe the rest of the food, it's because my cousin and I both got sick from eating the Garlic Fried Chicken. My order was fried to Death. The pieces were on the smallish side and I determined it was because it was cooked to Death! It was super crispy and had the familiar texture and crunch of some Southern Fried Chicken I've had in the past, so I ate it. Apparently my cousin did too and we both had stomach aches and diarreah! It was horrible!! We knew it had to have been the chicken because that's the only thing my cousin ate that day, while I had that chicken and their BBQ Pork. So, I didn't eat the rest of the items I ordered and threw it out. My cousin called the next day to inform the restuarant. They were neither apologetic or caring and just said thanks for letting us know. IMO....I think they had a feeling the chicken was old and decided to fry it to Death and give it to someone with a togo order. I've been to Pineapple many times and have never had a problem, UNTIL yesterday. I ordered general chicken and broccoli beef. When I got home, boy was I disappointed. The general chicken looked like popcorn chicken, NOT the bigger pieces like before and the broccoli beef was mainly broccoli and it was sooooo over cooked that it was soggy. There was hardly any beef in it. I hate to say, but for what I paid at Pineapple, I could of gone to Panda Express and gotten waaaay more food and better tasting. Oh and I didn't even get a fortune cookie. LOL I don't think I'll be going back. I was very disappointed. read more

While driving through Isleton, we wanted a good hometown feel meal. This was the only place seemingly open on Labor day, so in we went. It had the vibe of a 1980s Chinese food restaurant...with a random deer head on the wall. Maybe Chinese Americana? Anyway, no lunch specials, a rarity for Chinese food places. We each ordered a chicken dish, but what annoyed us was....$4 for a bowl of steamed rice...EACH! $8 for two bowls of steamed white rice. Talk about a profitable side dish.... The garlic chicken was overly fried and dry. So, yeah....not great Chinese food. Essentially, with tip, $40 for a "meh" lunch. We were on a Delta ride and stopped in Isleton and stumbled across Pineapple Garden. First of all, when you go in, you are taken back in time to a very eclectic interior. The interior is very eye appealing with all the different wall decor they have. The decor definitely has some pizazz. The server was kind and explained the menu. We dined family style with the house chow mien and pineapple chicken with some steamed rice. The food was good and felt like a good value for the amount of food we were given. I stopped here at the Pineapple Restaurtant while driving through this area with my family. It was one of the only restaurants in the area that was open at the time. We ordered a ton of dishes for an extremely low prices. We ordered Char Siu pork, broccoli beef, fried rice, orange chicken, sweet and sour soup, and an order of potstickers. Everything was extremely delicious and came out fast. Our waitress was friendly and took our orders quickly. Love coming to this old school Chinese Restaurant in the small town of Isleton. Thanks to traffic it was time for lunch. Not much going on in town except for a few places to eat so let's eat! I was a bit worried as I said the town was empty and that perhaps the food wouldn't be that good with so little traffic...wrong! We ordered 2 items, Tomato Beef Chow Mein and Mushu Tofu both were plentiful with good ingredients and tasted like they should! When I say old school it brought me back to 80's when I'd eat at places in the city (SF). As a bonus a nice couple shared their appetizer of Paper Wrapped Chicken which brought me back to my Grandma's version so that's saying something! Open finally for indoor dining. We had the asparagus and beef with pan fried noodles . So darn tasty. Served hot and spicy like we ordered. Also had an order of egg rolls. Looks like they did some upgrades during shutdown. Service was excellent. We drive 25 miles to have this great food. read more

I was craving chow main and veggies . So this was the only place open at the time . Had to drive from Rio vista to here. Called in my order for veggie chowmein and shrimp chowmein in for my girls. I wish I would have checked the boxes before I left . Opened the food and can instantly smell burnt noodles . There was still char on the noodles like they probably reheated old noodles and veggies were mush. The shrimp chowmein same thing with the noodles , the shrimp however my girls were disgusted (they are shrimp lovers) mushy old breaded shrimp just recooked and thrown in the noodles. While camping at Delta Shores in Isleton we decided we wanted Chinese food. The options are pretty limited (one place in Isleton and one in Rio Vista). We decided to give Pineapple a try. While the staff was quite friendly and the menu offerings were pretty standard fare, the food was for the most part mediocre, in my opinion. We ordered won ton soup, Mongolian beef, shrimp with broccoli, and general chicken, along with steamed rice for four. They provided a HUGE amount of rice. The large soup was enough for six people, it was a bit bland, though. The beef was prepared differently than I've had at numerous restaurants; it had bell peppers and maybe some carrots.... I prefer the more traditional onion and scallion with Szechuan pepper preparation style; the shrimp wasn't what was expected either, just really different. The chicken was about the only item that wasn't far off from what we thought we might receive. Overall, it wasn't bad, just different. We'll probably want to try the Rio Vista option before heading back to Pineapple. read more

We love visiting Isleton and have usually stopped at Peter's Steak House on the way home from birdwatching. But we decided to have a Chinese dinner instead of steak, and stopped here. Macy, the server, was helpful in getting us a set of dishes that would be more than enough for the 3 of us; we had plenty of leftovers! The vegetable and tofu dishes were cooked just right, so that veggies were crisp and everything was tasty. We ate, and talked, and Macy kept up with us and our tea needs. Can not recommend going here by yourself everything is alacart so if you want some rice, some chow mien and sweet n sour pork guess what you get a large order of each. I'm ok with left overs but when each thing is 10 bucks it makes for an expensive lunch. They should do combo plates with less food for those that don't want to buy three meals at a time. We finally made it to Pineapple Restaurant. Our friends mentioned it and I saw this place when I cycled through Isleton last year. This is an old establishment with quickly charm and good Chinese dishes. Our garlic fried chicken may looked burnt but it was tasty and juicy. We should of ordered the 8 pcs dish. We shared a combination lunch dish and that was good. The service was great and she was pleasant to all the guests (regulars and first timers).
