What a cute place tucked away in a cozy space! I was in the area on a Sunday drive with my dog and saw this spot had been praised for good fries and fish & chips according to some other Yelpers! I definitely had to check them out. I decided to sit outside (despite the super warm day) because I had my pooch in tow, but the inside felt cool when I went in to get a table. I ordered a giant glass of iced tea (which automatically came with lots of ice--thank you)! The staff were friendly, and the food came out pretty fast. I enjoyed the fish & chips I ordered -- but can't say for sure if they were hand battered because the filets were too evenly coated and "homogeneous." They were giving a little bit of that "frozen to fryer" vibe -- but they were no less tasty. Fries were nicely seasoned and the tartar sauce was light on the acidity--nothing extra lemon couldn't solve for! I look forward to stopping by again when I am in the area. Being that we live close with in the area, we tend to visit here once maybe twice a month during their open season hours. Overall, each meal that we have had from here has been very good. For the most part, the customer service is good. I can only really account for one occasion that, I could tell the staff was having a off day with how they were speaking to each other in earshot of customers. But all in all we usually enjoy our visit here. It's nice being able to have your mail and look outside and see a beautiful view of the Deltaboats on the water. A lot of people that are just for the weekend or are new to the area overall. Definitely a good spot to catch me at and at times ice cream and or nice cold beer. read more

After relocating to the area in Sept2023, we began familiarizing ourselves with the local restaurants. Being remote workers who spend quite a bit of time at home working, Sunday's are our "date days" and we love getting out and starting the day with brunch. This was an excellent decision when we showed up at the Lair, a nice little diner on the Delta. I had heard about the Lair's Fish and Chips and was really bummed that they only serve it for lunch (it was 11am) so I settled on the Ham and Egg White muffin. Hubby got the Chicken Fried Steak, which he LOVED!!! This was a great little place with a great view of the Delta from out table. read more

This was the cutest waterfront cafe with THE BEST Bloody Mary I've ever had (and that's saying a lot because I'm very picky with BMs)! The staff was polite and food came out promptly. The drinks were unique in that they don't have liquor so they use rice wine and they taste amazing! It's clearly a locals spot. The fish and chips were good and the other items our table ordered looked great as well. Would love to come back and try more! read more

haven't been here in quite a while before Covid used to have the best french fries out of anywhere I've been. Went there yesterday with my family ordered two Rubens and a Caesar salad, both sandwiches were burnt. French fries were a soggy mess. Salad was swimming and dressing. One piece of meat folded in half on the Ruben was like rubber very disappointed because this is one very few restaurants left. Wish they had changed it and raised their prize wasn't please go back to your old ways. read more

Party of 3 went for breakfast, placed the order around 1030am. After the order was placed, we were informed They were out of biscuits - disappointing but understandable since it was late in the morning. We still ordered breakfast- eggs, bacon & chicken fried steak. Breakfast took just under an hour after the reorder. Overall the food was just ok. The chick fried steak was frozen and the bacon not fully cooked. The coffee is also horrible, and really weak. Really disappointing. read more

This place has great food but there's too much drama going on with the staff. They finally hire a great waitress (Vicky) who knows the biz and works circles around the younger less eager staff, and then poof drama n she's gone! WHY? The cooks prepare the best food on the delta, and quick depending on if you go during the week or weekends. Weekends are busy busy but cook can dish it out! The breakfast was awesome. Lunch yes yes yes. Menu has nice variety. Food is excellent!!!! Wish I knew where Vicky went tho. It's sad when management can't see between the hired help. Production anyone? read more

It's kind of a little bitty spot next to a marina and they serve the standard fare but, everything is done with a little different twist. The coleslaw has a little horseradish in it the sauce for the fish and chips is nicely spiced with dill, and the french fries Are double fried so they're real real crispy. Also you can sit at the tables that overlooks the marina and watch the boats go by, can't get much better than that read more

This quaint little spot in the Delta's got beer and wine, breakfast til 11:30 am and outdoor plumbing. The grilled ham and cheese sandwich made me feel like a kid again and the pictures of Elvis on the wall hark back to a simpler time. Love it! read more

We came to the Delta for a nice family vacation. A gentleman told us to check out Pirates Lair café for breakfast... We got there at 11:30 AM and were seated, given menus, and were told that lunch would not start for 40 minutes. So we ordered coffee and orange juice and we were there for breakfast anyways. Just before we were brought our coffee and orange juice a woman came out and barked at us,"Breakfast is over!!! We're not serving breakfast anymore!!! You're too late, breakfast ends at 11:15!" Then we were told that again we couldn't even start to order lunch for 40 more minutes. Our Family was in total shock, as to why this woman was so rude to us for absolutely no reason. I wish this café luck if they're going to keep her around. What kind of café stops serving breakfast at 11:15 AM? And then won't serve lunch until 12:30? We go to a lot of cafés and this by far was the most dysfunctional café we've been to yet. Their orders were completely backed up and they were only at 50% capacity. So if you want to go to a café and not get served any food and get yelled at, then this is the place for you! read more

Cafeteria food anyone? My tuna melt and fries reminded me of my grade school days... I understand that the town is small and there aren't really many tourists, so the food around Isleton may be slacking a bit.. I wish I could have like the food,simply because it has been a family business for decades- but we're talking about mediocre food here. The tuna melt was about $8, which is also steep. There was a semi- melted cheese wedged in the tuna...It just wasn't hot off the grill as I would have liked. I appreciated the fact that it wasn't dripping grease though. read more

Used to come here all the time. Came for the first time in a year or so. Service was ehhh decent, sat outside( deck was closed ), table was dirty. Ordered mimosas- about 6oz-8oz for 3.50. Quality and quantity of food was not worth my drive. I was let down cause I always speak highly of the place. read more

This place is a 5 star for ambiance but only a 3 star for timely service. I understand wanting everyone to relax in this lovely tropical resort setting, but really now, how long does it take to make simple bacon and eggs? The food is good, when it finally arrives, but the menu is simple. Staff is friendly and prices are reasonable for a resort-type location. It does deserve high marks for having a dog-friendly front patio where you can have a meal with your fur-baby. It a nice change of pace from in-town locations. read more

Rude staff!!! So rude that we left without ordering! My daughter and I have a Saturday ritual that includes driving along the river and having Saturday brunch. We have passed Pirate's Lair numerous times but we were never hungry as we passed. After talking about it for months, we stopped to eat this morning. We entered at about 11:20. The restaurant had only a few patrons but we were not greeted by staff. My daughter told the waitress at the counter (who still had not said a word to us) that we wanted to sit outside. She told us of an upper patio area and watched us walk out a back door and up the stairs. And there we waited without menus or utensils. At 11:30 on the dot my daughter said to go down and get our waitress because the menu says they stop serving breakfast at 11:30. Not only did they refuse to make us breakfast, they actually accused me of lying, saying we were not upstairs! They obviously don't need business if they can be so rude to customers. If you're in the mood to wait for two hours for food when you're the only group in the restaurant and enjoy being told you're "difficult" by multiple employees go here... It may have been my bad for asking to add tomatoes on a tuna melt. Sorry I was "difficult". I honestly didn't know whether or not I should be pissed or just laugh. Love this place and wish they would be open for dinner too (there are no options if your staying on your boat out here). We've been dining here for years and have never had a bad meal. A great place to visit right off of the San Joaquin river. I love the decor and feel of the resort. The food is good for a delta restaurant. My husband and I shared a tuna melt and salad, which was good. The service was good and the waitress was very nice and polite. We did not experience any of the issues identified in earlier 2015 posts. read more

Breakfast is down home and tasty. Ham steak is huge. My favorite with crispy hash browns. Order breakfast before 11:30. For those of you with wait time problems, look around you are in the Delta. read more

This is a wonderful place to have breakfast on the roof. The food is great and yes it is kicked back because everything is cooked fresh. So if you are in a rush go elsewhere, but if you want a nice quiet enjoyable time this is the place to go. The staff is great and so is the food. read more

Came to the restaurant for a morning breakfast around 9:15A.M. as a party of 4. After having to ask numerous times to order we finally were approached by a waitress. We then waited an additional hour after ordering before deciding to cancel our orders and leave. When we told the waitress to cancel the food, she expressed to us that they had not even began making the food yet. It was a small restaurant that was no where close to being crowded and the staff was unapologetic for the bad service and waiting time. read more

Went for breakfast yesterday. We had a party of 7 and were told there was a party if 11 ahead of us to get food. Didn't really seem like a big deal since the restaurant had maybe 4 other people in it. An hour and a half later we finally got our food. The words I used was "mind boggling" how it could really take that long to make simple breakfast food. My husband did not like his breakfast burrito so avoid that and the scrambled eggs are powdered eggs. I accidentally spilled my water and they brought me a stack of napkins but didn't offer any help to clean up the floor or table. Oh one positive about the place is it is VERY empty so if you have a really hungry 1 year old and 4 year old it didn't matter that my husband got up with them and went for walks in the time we waited. read more

Doug E. you are mistaken about them hating bikers. I and my biker buddies go there every time we are riding our Harleys in the Delta area. They treat us very NICE and always have in fact. We love their food also. We all have different opinions I guess. read more
