simple happy hour cocktail with great view (Happy Hour M-F 3-6)

The Point has really found its stride lately. The menu still has everything longtime customers know and love, but it's no longer a hard sell to the grandkids (or the plant-based daughter-in-law). Pasta entrées no longer default to meat, which makes them easy wins for plant-based eaters. There's also a hearty veggie burger--without the dreaded upcharge--and even the clam chowder is thoughtfully made without bacon, making it a rare option that works for pescatarians and guests with religious dietary needs. These may seem like small details, but together they make The Point feel welcoming to everyone. The classics are still holding strong--the fish and chips is as fantastic as ever, the fried zucchini is irresistible, and Happy Hour (Mon-Fri, 3-6pm) delivers with balanced cocktails and great value. Service is attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere is relaxed enough for a casual stop yet polished enough for a full dinner out. What's most impressive is the balance The Point has struck: longtime regulars still get their traditional favorites, while plant-based diners finally feel like they have real choices. That makes it the perfect spot for mixed groups--grandparents who want comfort food, families juggling picky eaters, or the vegetarian daughter-in-law who's usually stuck with a side salad. Now, everyone can sit down here and find something they're genuinely excited to eat. And for us personally, it's a game-changer. We're thrilled to finally have a local spot where we can bring company off the boat without feeling like we have to cook and clean for every meal. The Point has quickly become a place we're excited to share with our loved ones--a true gem in the Delta.

Fish Tacos (crispy, grilled fish is an option)

Needed a lunch spot to meet a friend from Galt, somewhere 1/2 way between us. Found the Point. We shared some fried Artichoke hearts, I had the fish tacos and a bowl of clam chowder. One friend had the tuna melt, one had the club sandwich. The food was fresh with generous servings and service was excellent! The clam chowder had a good amount of clams (some don't), the fish tacos had a pico that provided a nice level of spice. The artichokes were well prepared, no woody leaves, just tender parts of the hearts. It's right on the Delta so views are nice, even on an overcast day. There is outside seating on the back deck with wide views of the Delta.

What a beautiful restaurant on the river in Rio Vista. Having lived in Isleton for a brief period, we made many stops in Rio Vista but never had the chance to eat here until recently and had a great experience. They were doing a meal special for Valentines day, Prime Rib and Lobster special with sides, 2 for $90, a steal for the meal! I like pretty rare prime rib and that is what I got with a heap of horseradish, fried potatoes, and green beans. The lobster tail was a good size, nicely cooked, and served with warm butter of course. We enjoyed our evening looking out at the stormy weather- too windy and raining to keep the boat out that evening but it does have dock for guests to pull up at if you are traveling along the river. This place is not just for "fancy" evenings out, the locals come here for a good dinner and they serve lots of options so there is something for everyone. They have a full bar and serve bottles of wine. I would love to come back for lunch and try that clam chowder!

Everything needs to be better. I guess there is a new owner. Never canceled a dinner order before. But today is the Day. Horrible experience never needed to chase down a waiter after 45 minutes. I tipped well but will never return. Been going for over a decade.

My schedule opened up and I was dragged to lunch on a beautiful Thursday afternoon with my Dad, Aunt, and Uncle (Not complaining btw) The hour drive from Vallejo reminded me why I love East Solano County! We got there and sat out in the lower dining area and Julie took absolute care of us. The initial Margarita(Not pictured) was a cucumber blueberry margarita. It was alright. I wasn't a huge fan. The food: The Shrimp Louie looked amazing and was set up in a 'mix up as you go' fashion The Mango Halibut also looked amazing and was confirmed by my uncle. The fried Cod and Sidewinder fries while kinda basic hit an absolute chord. Light crispy batter, the fish did tend to get soggy kinda quick but it was still good. The French Dip was good! Nice tender prime rib cut super thin. The onion rings were great! The only issue I had was the au jus was more or less a beef base that had little depth and was lacking. The Cadillac margarita was really good and hit the spot on a warm afternoon! Overall between the food and the view this is a great place to hang out if you're in the area!

Do you like old school restaurants on the river? I do. We went to check out The Point over in Rio Vista. @pointrestaurant has daily specials and won the Best of the Delta runner up award for "Best Food with a View," on the Delta. This was worth visiting in itself. It offers patio, banquet, bar, and dining room seating all with views of the mighty Sacramento River. I ordered the refreshing Point's Punch, the jumbo prawn cocktail, deep fried artichoke hearts, and their popular clam chowdaaa! It tasted homemade but just needed more clams IMO. Satisfaction attained. Friendly, attentive, and quick service here. A return visit will be planned soon. Located between the Sac River and a little marina. I rounded my 3.5 stars to 4 with more menu exploration forthcoming. We also cruised downtown Rio Vista and found a couple more spots to explore. The Point!!! Awesome views!

Came here for a second time and tried out some of their other food items. Clam chowder was good, shrimp scampi was a bit watery and needed more garlic. The chicken pesto linguine was tasty. Good service and very nice view. Will definitely come back

Drinks Menu

Had lunch on a Friday at the point. We tried outside first, but my height-challenged wife could not see over the railing :). Started with an Orange Dream cocktail and a plate of Fried Calamari which was a great appetizer served with both cocktail (++) & tartar (meh, --) dips. We had the Fish Sandwich and the steak salad. Ordered Rare steak & got it. Steak was great (no nerves, not too much fat). Just a little bit stingy on the blue cheese crumbles. The blue cheese dressing had no crumbles at all, glad I ordered it on the side. Nice ambiance for older folks right on the edge of the river. Waitress Carolina took great care of us and came multiple times during the meal to check on us. Thanks!

Ask the Community - The Point Restaurant

Do I need a reservation?

We didn't need one plenty of seating..

Would you recommend this restaurant for a vegetarian (no fish/meat/seafood)? If you are a vegetarian and ate here, how was your experience?

Yes, I'm vegetarian and I ate there recently. They don't have a large selection for vegetarians however you can find something for dinner. Four of us were in the party, with me being the only vegetarian. Each of us was happy with the food.

Does this restaurant have air conditioning?

Yes

Is this restaurant upstairs? And If so, is their an elevator?

Are dogs allowed outside?

I did see people with dogs outside but you may want to call for any restrictions. I doubled checked only service dogs.

If you've ever driven through Rio Vista, you've probably heard of Foster's Bighorn (and if you…read morehaven't stopped in yet, you should.) Foster's Bighorn is a local peeps restaurant and bar. It houses a private collection of over 300 big game specimens from Africa and North America, making it a great place to see what big game hunting looked like in the 1930s. The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by world-class trophies covering the walls near the ceiling. It's unlike any other dining atmosphere around in the east bay. For me, this place is pure nostalgia. My dad used to bring me here once a year when he had business in Rio Vista. I remember being completely fascinated by all the trophies mounted on the walls. Large game hunting wasn't something my family participated in, but growing up in a farming family, animals raised for food were a normal part of life. Even so, the quality and quantity of the collection always left me in awe. Going back as an adult, I can say that feeling hasn't changed. The collection is still impressive. This visit, we kept it simple with drinks and appetizers. My friend ordered a margarita on the rocks, and I had a pale ale. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. The bar itself is a classic 65-foot bar that feels like it belongs in another era. For food, I had the Caesar salad, and we split the ten-inch pepperoni pizza. The pizza featured roni cups and felt like a solid, classic appetizer-style pizza . The side Caesar salad was a great portion with crisp lettuce, shaved Parmigiana, and crunchy croutons, simple and tasty. Foster's Bighorn offers a Chop House style menu for lunch and dinner, making it a great spot for a quick bite or a full sit down dinner. I'd absolutely go back: first for the nostalgia, second for the drinks, and third for the food. It's a one-of-a-kind place that feels like stepping into history while enjoying a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Compared to our last visit, the new-ish owner had brightened up the entire place, now with more emphasis on the restaurant, but still with it's huge bar. We probably didn't need a reservation, but we were greeted by the name on the reservation, probably because we looked like we were the only ones who would bother to make a reservation for three. Chicken marsala, fish and chips and lamb chops were all excellent, as was our server. The owner came by our table to check on our experience and confirmed that he had initiated the changes that we had noticed, as well as some that we hadn't. If you like seeing the animal trophies from a bygone era, this is a great place to have a drink or a meal.

Yesterday was a different thing, though. It was cold outside, so we decided to eat in the dining room. It took FIFTY MINUTES to get our food. The time stamp on my receipt said 6:30pm. At 7:00pm, I went to check on our order and she said it was coming up, but then started to hand me someone else's order. When I told her what we'd ordered, she looked at the order wheel and said, "Oh, yours is next." Then it took another 20 minutes to make two burgers, a side of fries, and a side of onion rings. That's just too long, especially since the dining room was freezing cold, too. We asked if the heat could be bumped up, but she said something like, "Sorry, but they lock it so we can't adjust it." The burgers were good, but it was just too damned cold. We will be back, but not until the weather warms up. Maybe in April or May.

At least 6-7 bags were lined up and they weren't confident the orders were accurate. Again, I was the ONLY one in the lobby area. Confusion reigned to the point that nobody acknowledged me there for those nine minutes. When the Asst. Manager finally did, she said, "We'll be with you in a minute." (Really?) My response at that point was "I've been standing here 10 minutes and no one has even said 'Boo' to me." She turned away like a scared puppy after hearing me, and I stood there another minute. Another (potential) customer came into the lobby around the 5 minute mark, saw that I hadn't ordered yet, then went to the restroom. He came out and saw I still hadn't been helped yet. As I turned around to leave, he looked bewildered. I told him it's been 10 minutes and they're only focused on the drive thru, they're really having problems back there. "10 minutes?" he said as I walked out. I got into my car, sat there and watch for a moment from the rear view mirror. As I backed out, I saw him walking out too. So now, I'm going to say that I see why this location (a combo KFC/Taco Bell) currently has a 2.5 Star rating. FWIW, the regular manager does a fine job, treats his employees with respect and has demonstrated adeptness with taking time to train the newer employees when I've visited the store in the past. I'm a KFC guy. And whether it is the Antioch location, which is extremely on point and incorporates the KFC App (something this Rio Vista location refuses to do for some reason) or this one, I come into one of the two locations probably twice a month. This Rio Vista visit was unacceptable. I'm not the type to chalk it up to "The bar has been low since Covid." To be acknowledged within a reasonable amount of time after entering is common courtesy. I'm happy the other guy who also walked out proved with his feet that he feels the same way. When I receive great service, I've proven here on Yelp! that I will leave a great review. Yelp! has even reached out to me on a few occasions to be one of their Ambassadors (of sorts). When I get extremely subpar service or just get flat out ignored, well, here you go. Learn from it. My inkling was to get some tomatoes and bottled water and grapes from Lira's. The tomatoes were for sandwiches for my lunch at work. Well, a homemade turkey sandwich and red grapes was what I had for dinner. It wasn't the original plan, but I have far too much respect for myself, as did the other potential customer who walked out, to accept crappy and clueless treatment.
