My favorite campground in New Hampshire! This is the place to get away from RVs and trailers and…read moreloud noises. OK there are a few spots for groups and you could probably get an RV and trailer up there, but I have yet to see it. The campsites here all have the basics for tent camping: picnic table, fire pit/grill, peace and quiet. Most of the sites are spaced far apart so that you don't turn your head and make eye contact with a neighbor. Some of them are almost completely isolated, and a few have lean-tos (you're near the Appalachian Trail after all). The fire pits are kind of annoying though, they're basically three-sided iron boxes with sliding grates on top. You'll stay warm and can easily cook on them, but not everyone is going to have a great view of the fire. There is garbage on site, pit toilets, potable water, and lots of hiking nearby. In fact, the hiking is probably one of the biggest draws. You could get a spot here and then hike to one of the other campgrounds in the national forest (those are obviously hike-in only), or just spend a few hours in the forest. We saw lots of moose droppings, but no moose. Maybe your luck will be better than mine. The river is nearby and there are several parks and access points to get to it. I saw quite a few people fly fishing last time I was here. You've got to drive to Maine to get here, and then head about 5 miles along a dirt road to cross back into NH. Stock up in nearby Gorham and bring plenty of firewood. You'll want to stay at least two nights, and you'll definitely want to come back.

The bathrooms are old and dirty, with walls and doors that clearly need to be scrubbed of built-up grime and feces. The showers are quarter-operated, but unreliable and some without temperature control. The amenities listed online are also misleading. The "playground" is really just a small baby jungle gym, and the area that should be a playground is a complete waste of space. Across the street, they have a so-called swimming beach but it is nothing more than a mosquito-filled pond with a sunken paddle boat. The train is nice and freshly painted, but the swing set is in terrible shape and really needs to be removed before someone gets hurt. The water wheel advertised on the website doesn't work and doesn't look like it has in quite some time. On top of that, there's no WiFi service. With some updates and proper upkeep, this place could be wonderful--but as it stands, it's disappointing compared to what's advertised.

We went back out to the front desk and they wouldn't refund us our money, informing us that "no one else has had a problem getting in"...lol ouch. thats fine my ego can take the hit. We left and drove down the road to Maple Haven, fortunately they were able to squeeze us in, they told me they just had someone ahead of us come in for the same reason.

Kind of exciting driving up and seeing a couple old campers set up like it was part of a theme park. Getting toward the office the road splits into a nice paved 3 lane rd. Excellent if there a few people checking in. The office is well presented, and an arcade next to it is a pristine 200 yr old barn. The roads were well maintained as it turned to dirt and gravel. No rain made potholes a very nice drive. The sites as we drove by were awesome. This place has great large deep private sites, angled very well for easy docking. The site we had 210 was a damn good site. Not far walking distance from office pool and other amenities. Trees were nice and solid and it was large enough for us to do extra. The fire pits were awesome, all large stones with others built up.. excellent on that one moosehillock. Everyone walking by had great attitudes, excellent vibes. Well except that one dude looked at me walking by jealous of my blackstone. Cons to get through quick cause we didn't have much. At $12 a bundle for wood, little steep usually paying $4-6 at other campgrounds. BUT!!!!! you can bring your NH born wood from wherever so that's a plus. No cell service but wifi if you are down around the office. By the way I met a camp worker David who was very professional and helped with every question and matter we had. 100 acres, over 500 sites to stay at rv cabins tents. This is a great place. We plan to go back next summer in season to check out the pool and other accommodations. Recommended for now. Update next season.

We stayed in a Hygge cabin which was spacious and provided us with all the essentials to be able to cook meals everyday (especially with places being closed for Thanksgiving!). Lumen Nature Retreat also has two private saunas that you can reserve and we made sure to take full advantage of that after our days out hiking in the cold. It was a nice way to relax along with their heated, clean bathhouse. The experience is fully self serve, but they are always available to help through text. There is adequate cell service to reach out to them in case you need anything. They always responded within 15 minutes. I would love to come back in the spring/summer to do more hikes in the area and enjoy all that the place has to offer!

Everything is an up charge. There is no water view in sight despite every photo of the cabins showing water. Absolutely NOT worth $1,044 for 2 nights. We camp 15-20 times a year (both tent and cabin) and love the outdoors, but that isn't at all what this is. So sad to have been deceived by their posts. I hope you can save yourself the disappointment. Update- Well over a year after my initial post, Boris, the business owner, finally responded. It is disappointing that after such a long delay, the choice was made to imply I simply didn't "thoroughly review" their photos. Claiming "transparency" while marketing every single cabin with a water view--when in reality, my $1,044 stay consisted of a small cabin on wheels sandwiched between parked cars with zero privacy--is the definition of misleading. Labeling a cramped, overcrowded layout as "community-focused" doesn't change the fact that the actual experience does not align with the curated, secluded aesthetic advertised. My issue isn't a misunderstanding of "glamping"; it's a rejection of being overcharged for a misrepresented experience. Instead of discrediting guests who have spent significant money at your business, I hope you use this feedback to provide more honest marketing. I'll continue to support reputable spots that value transparency over defensive excuses.

Conveniently enough there is no recommendation/review page set up for this place but i thought I…read morewould share my experiences good and bad from my recent stay last weekend. This was the only place left with availability for the holiday weekend, I booked there on site camper for two nights. It was a bit expensive for a camper in the area it was in but I decided to bite the bullet because they offered Wi-Fi and the town of Warren has ZERO cell service no matter who the provider. The WiFi in itself was spotty at best, I didn't expect service like at my home but even a McDonald's has a stronger connection. The camper itself started off at $185 a night, a bit pricy but it is a new model so we went with it. The whole purpose of our trip was to rider four wheelers and the park charges $10 per machine for the office to register them(still can't figure out what that entailed for the fee) then $10 per night, per machine to park them OUTSIDE the park, so basically after riding you're walking a football field or two length back to your site. It was really a pain loading them up the first trip when we had to make numerous trips getting all of our gear! On top of those charges it was also another $25 per trailer per night and they only had spots for 6. We had two trailers and had to park one on the other side of town. It seemed as if there was plenty of areas around to accommodate us parking it. As an afterthought someone older or someone that has issues walking would not make it from their machines to their site! The camper itself was okay, we were told it had two bathrooms, this was not true. Then last minute found out that no linens are included, which is kind of an inconvenience especially for the amount charged, and the fact that I was subjected to a $35 room tax, yet they said they don't have to have them because they aren't a hotel? Needless to say we packed up all the pillows and sheets and planned to make the best of it. Warren is known to have one restaurant that closes early, or runs out of alot of food or is packed. So I planned on grilling food since we were told there was plates and cutlery and other kitchen items. Um there was no grill, I would think they would rather provide one and not have people cooking inside. I have a new trailer the same age and have never cooked anything inside. The unit was clean when we got there but The ac was off when we arrived and turning it on there was the smell of dust everywhere I opened up the filter and it was filthy, also the unit itself probably not totally level because the middle felt soft walking and it was noisy and the screen door would not latch, that's usually an indicator that it's not level. Only other observation I mad is that the bunk bed in the back looks like a death trap. It's set up in a fashion with very little support. The gourmet themselves were very clean,. Well maintained, and lots for the little ones to do. Including a pool, splash pad and a pretty cool play ground set up. if my daughter was hound enough I bet she would've had a blast there! Last thing would be the bath house, something that's always hard to comment on because no matter what they can be criticized. But they seemed clean and up kept. They have showers that are 5 minutes for a quarter. The shower really never got to an acceptable temp when it's 50 degrees out and no heat inside the place and the windows and doors propped open. I also noticed it had a dropped ceiling that was king of nasty and out of place. Only other comment on the bathroom is the the toilets are not a.d.a. Compliant and may be very hard for older people to get up from. All in all it was a decent campground, if I had brought my own trailer I'm sure I would've had zero complaints, but they more you pay the more you expect. My main issue would be the aspects of charges for four wheelers and the placement of them. The sites that you rent for your trailer do not even have enough room for your machines next to it. If the place was full you would probably be expected to put them back on the trailers!

All adults sitting have conversations as the kids are sleeping. Trust me I'm not waking my kid, so I'm being quiet, for my child's sake and the respect of the people around. But this led to being asked to leave the campground. This is not a family friendly place. Even staff have said the new owners are a lot more strict and don't let people enjoy the camping experience people are used to doing with their friends and family. I wish I didn't even have to give this place any stars as they are NOT deserving of it.
