I love this camp! I have a seasonal site and truly look forward to spending calm and friendly months there.

Beware, all those 1 star reviews and other bad reviews are true. Owner/ management very rude to non…read morecaucasian guests. Camp sites are deceiving. R-sites are small and going down hill in to the river/ stream. No privacy between sites. These site are below the top of the hill, camping on a slope. They also have a ledge of ground on the edge of site going down into the waters. Definitely can easily injure oneself if not careful. Most fire pits are at the edge of the site under the trees branches, not on flat land looking like it is going to fall and go into the river/stream. Quiet time is at 1030pm. This actually means silent time, lights out and go to bed. Can not sit around fire pit and talk. Booked 3 nights with family only stayed one night. Could not stay because of the owner stalking us at night and did not feel welcomed. Being watched all the time. Keep your money go elsewhere. Speedway near by, hear everything at the campground. Can not even hear ourselves speak with the racing going on there. Non caucasian steer clear. You will be judged the moment you step into the office. Treated with no respect, harass and stalked. Come to think of it, it is like a KKK movie...these ppl will speak to you only to benefit them but behind our backs despises us

This is amazing place. It's an AMC lodge so don't expect luxury. The crew are super nice. I've…read moreeaten meals here a few years ago and found it pretty good. But what is really nice is the campsites. We were in Dukes Meadow and were the only people there. Each campsite has a metal fire pit (some have stone pits) with a grill, picnic bench, flat area for your tent, nearby potable water source and bear box for food storage. There are wooden port-a-potties nearby. Ive been there before when it was more crowded and while still fun, it can be on the noisier side. Not outrageous and distracting. Eventhough we didn't pay for food, I went to the lodge to use the bathroom and sneak some coffee. You can also borrow a hiking backpack and hiking poles. You can buy firewood for $15. We hiked up the very steep and scary Holt trail, which I wish was better marked (as we got lost and had to bush whack up the hill). And ps - the signage indicates that the Holt trail is the steepest and hardest trail in all of New England. I had pine needles everywhere! Thank goodness we borrowed those hiking poles. Campsite #27 is in the woods and more isolated than the ones in the Meadow.

It's a wonderful place and we can't wait to go back. Like the other reviewers mentioned, know before you go that this is a lodge, not a hotel. Bring your own pillow. That's literally our only word of caution. We had a bunk room to ourselves, and with three meals a day provided, we were able to relax and just be present with our kids instead of having one eye on the clock all the time for meal prep and cleanup. We've stayed in two other AMC Lodges and this is the most rustic, but like the others it is immaculately clean, and staffed with friendly and knowledgeable people who clearly love what they do, there are abundant and healthy meals with lots of options for gluten free folks, and the staff knew or would check ingredients for our peanut and soy allergic kids. There are huge maps with popular trails, which is great for planning your day, plus each day there were naturalist-led excursions and educational programs. A refrigerator is available in the boot room on the lower level.

I can't state strongly enough how impressed we are with Neal and Monique. They run a fantastic park! We're planning to come back when we pick up our class A. Tons of space make it very easy to maneuver in the park and everything is spotless clean. The property is well maintained and everything you could need will be delivered to you in what seemed like mere seconds. The small park for the kids was very clean as were the swimming pool and onsite facilities. Proximity to local attractions and great restaurants was also very convenient. Usually I like to offer some constructive critique for improvement, but I honestly can't think of one thing I would change or do differently. The only "problem" I have are my now high expectations of other parks. I feel like we need to make another trip somewhere else to see what the downsides to lesser parks look like! Thanks again Neal and Monique for a great first experience! Also, your breakfast recommendation at the common cafe was a winner! Thanks!

The owners, Neal and Monique, are busy working on it all the time and are sooo great. Just over their little hill is the river where people go tent and pop-up camping and float down the river. Sites are EXTREMELY spacious and perfectly level. Everything is well cared for and the little shop is well stocked. The first day we were here, the lady who was in the office bought my daughter some candy to help her feel as welcome as we did. It seems like a bit of a hidden gem too, because although the weekends seem to fill up pretty well-during the week it isn't busy at all, which is kinda fun for full-timers to have the pool and park to ourselves a bit. :)

We stayed at campsites 18 and 19 and it was along the Baker River. They have free shower and toilet facilities, but only one shower and toilet per gender. They turn off their showers from 11pm to 7am so plan accordingly! There is also a water spout in the middle of the campground. WiFi is also available close to the check-in building. It's $10 per person, per night. Make sure to know your campsite number ahead of time. If you arrive late at night, they do not leave any notes or anything telling you where your campsite is. Also, ringing the bell does not help after hours. It's located near the side of the road so it can get annoying when cars drive past in the middle of the night. However, I don't mind staying here again. The folks here are nice. Campground is clean. It's also close to the Common Cafe and Tavern and the crags.

Most campsites are closer to the river and a little bit away from the road. But it is literally on 25 so it can be a bit noisy for traffic. There is an overflow/group camping site to the left when you come in which is good if you are with a group. The bathrooms are cool and kitschy. There is only one sink and shower in each. Two toilets in each. Plenty of places outside the bathroom to relax and wait if there is a line. Shower water is shut off between 11pm and 7am. There is a water tap in the center of the camping ring you can easily access. Not very sandy.

Beautiful sites available right on the water. Other site away from the water area available too. 3. SUPER easy check-in. 4. Not a ton of rules/regulations like most campgrounds and there didn't need to be as everyone is very respectful there, like it should be! 5. Dogs allowed as long as they are on a leash at all times. Again, not a lot of red tape, paperwork and rules to bring your dog camping which is so nice! 6. Campground and facilities are well maintained and clean. 7. Great location with lots to do nearby. 8. Wood for campfires available for $4 a bundle. Cons 1. We picked a site #56 because it was on the water and close to one of the bathroom locations listed on their map. While they were certainly close, they were actually porta pottys, not actual bathrooms with running water. Not a huge deal ,but had we know this, we probably would've picked a site closer to one of the real bathrooms with running water. 2. No central location to wash dishes other than your campsite. 3. Some of the sites along the water are very narrow and close together. We could actually hear the couple in the site next to us talking every morning when they woke up and it was not because they were loud. 4. No campground store so if you forgot something, you're going to have to venture out in the surrounding area to find what you need. There is plenty nearby, but it's always nice if you can just get it from the campground store. Your best options are site 61 if you want a nice, large site on the water (not a lot of privacy) or site 65 for a nice, large site, but very private with only one site next to you and the other side is trees. If you like camping in an open field with other campers and don't mind the lack of privacy, they have that option too. Really something for everyone. One last note, showers are 50 cents for 6 minutes. Not a pro or con in my opinion, but certainly worth mentioning so you are prepared when you get there!
