We have a lot of mountains up here. If you really want a quiet day out during the prime months I suggest you find another trail. There are at least 3 others within 3 miles of this one

If you choose to pair it on with the cliff, make sure to do that trail first and it will lead into the falls trail. The cliff trail is MUCH more challenging and is not recommended unless you are experienced with hiking. For the falls trail, I would recommend allotting 2-3 hours. It's a quick and easy trail that will take you maybe 45-1 hour each way depending on your experience, but you'll want to spend some time at the falls. Highly recommend!

You can go into the carriage house for restrooms and more food options. To see or get anywhere near the castle you have to purchase a $23 ticket and take a trolley to the castle. I had my dog with me and they do not allow pets. The do allow service animals. I wasn't even allowed to go take a picture or peak at the castle. LAME! There is a gift shop that is okay. I was going to get an ornament but didn't want to pay an exorbant amount for a place I never really got to see. Definitely didn't want to support them that way. Maybe it would have been different without my dog, but as a traveler from out of state I didn't have many options and was only passing through the state.

As it is a long walk up and down stairs and won't be able to go into some caves and out . Whole track of caves takes about an hours length if you go into all the caves. This is a difficult excision, and the trail may be wet, and even in rock climbing shoes is slippery. There were also orange slugs everywhere, which with foot hold slipping got squished by hands. The first several miles are flat, and then you start bouldering into and then up the Ravine. We did find some show in June, and the caves were cold and refreshing. The climb up to the top of the ravine is challenging, but you are rewarded with epic photo ops and views. The only unpleasantness was the mosquitos and black flies. Kids always bring your bug repellent. You can also extend the hike to hit the peak of Mount Adams. It is prone to storms and lightening. You can seek shelter in the hut near the peak if trapped in a storm. You do not have to go back down the ravine, you can return vis the Mount Adams trail, it is a loop.

Coastline, beaches, lakes, mountains and rivers. And one of them is Sculptured Rocks Natural Area. This beautiful, out of the way location is a State Park that spans 272 acres, is of glacier origin and was formed by the action the Cockermouth River, which carved a narrow canyon on the granite bedrock on its way to Newfound Lake. The grains of sand suspended in the river current, carved the walls of the canyon throughout the years, creating a multitude of shapes, potholes and other rock formations. The lore has it billed as the "Grand Canyon of New Hampshire which is a stretch. But it is worth visiting. The lower part of the park is the most nature-intensive and features a bridge with amazing views. The upper part of the park is shallows and you can relax, cool off, allow your pup to be in the water and enjoy the scene. Getting here is a beautiful drive through forests and lakeside cabins. Then you go to the parking lot, cross the highway and things get nicer. You can do several nice hikes through the woods and up the river canyon, admiring what nature has carved. Yes, bring your pet but they must be on a leash because a) it's the park regulations and b) your dog can get seriously hurt if he/she wonders off and falls in the ravine. If you like to do yoga or meditation, it is indeed an amazing place early, before the folks show up. The sound of the falling water is about the most soothing sound ever.

Then about (5) sets of stairs to the top. Yes, a damn shame there is so much graffiti on the tower. However, it's not in your face w/ bright colors. Ignore it and take in the immense view. This is a better vantage point of both lakes Winnipesauke and Wentworth. Higher up too. I came on a cloudy day and it was still breathtaking. Pair this with the Wright WW2 museum and you have a solid day.

Golf range at Sugar Shack campgrounds is a NH gem- $6 for a small bucket of balls and $8 for a…read morelarge bucket. The honor system is employed to pay. Yardage is incorrect (my range finder says so) and I miss the old buckets and towels that I used to clean my clubs but otherwise, it's a great deal with scenic views. Just up/down Route 175 from the Sugar Shack restaurant (a wedge for Bryson). Kids are welcomed and old clubs are available if necessary.
