    Absinthe and a tasting flight
    David D.

We dropped in to do a spirit flight. Helpful and friendly bartender and interesting interpretations of gin, whiskey, and agave

I was in Astoria on vacation 3 years ago and stopped into this wonderful spot. I celebrated the Dodger victory by opening a bottle I bought on that trip. I enjoyed it so much !!! Great taste and quality I can't wait to restock. Unfortunately they don't ship to California but I will find a way to replenish the stock.

Just a quick tip: they have extended their hours on Saturday till 9pm. Have a tasting flight and mini cocktails. No food. Great liquor and great service. A nice place to have a quiet drink before dinner.

Cool little distillery with a tasting room, bar, and some snacks to go along with a flight or drinks. They have a great location, next to other breweries (like Fort George), and easy walking distance to food and other shops in downtown. They have a nice collection of different liquors to try, including a whisky and a few gins, one of which we really liked (Painted Lady iirc). The bartender was helpful and friendly, giving us history and info about their liquor and chatting while I tried a flight. Their prices are reasonable and they're fairly easy to find in liquor stores as well, just wish they were in Texas!

Really wasn't expecting such a fabulous find, while wandering the side streets of Astoria, but Pilot House drew us in and wowed us, from the layout of the tasting room, to the various liquors available. We were alone when we first arrived, although other guests show up shortly afterward. It was so quiet, at first, you could hear a pin drop; I didn't even see the bartender at first, until she greeted us. We poked around and marveled at the distillery in the back at first, then browsed the menu, while our server explained the history of Pilot House's operation, as well as the various products available on the tasting menu. I settled on the $10 flight of three, selecting jalapeno lime vodka, chai tea vodka, and ocean aged whiskey. I also ponied up for the separate absinthe tasting, itself $10, because apparently I am a fan of absinthe, despite abhorring licorice flavor in all other forms. I should have asked how many times they're filtered, because each of the sampled liquors was incredibly smooth. Other than a quick hit of spice upon the first sip of the jalapeno lime, each of them went down easy. It would be hard to choose a favorite, although the chai tea vodka would probably see the most play in our house, as it would mix wonderfully in just about everything, from coffee, tea, eggnog, and whatever else we could come up with. It bears a wonderful aroma of gingerbread, and immediately warms you up! As for the other two, the ocean aged whiskey was a pleasant surprise; apparently it is aged in barrels that are stored and rotated through various ocean-faring vessels for months at a time, imparting a gentle saltiness that is almost imperceptible. The absinthe was also excellent, the bitterness of the wormwood cut down by the dissolved sugar. I would get in a lot of trouble if I had bottles of that at home! We grabbed a few bottles and mixers to go, and learned, thankfully, that there is another tasting room back home in Portland, off of Mississippi Avenue, so I expect to drop in and check that location out soon, as well!

Friendly staff and good spirits. Casual setting will high quality spirits. They also make their own mixers like tonic and a variety of liqueur. I'm biased towards gin, and they do have a good selection. Highly recommend when in Astoria!

We were visiting Astoria for the day and walked in. Great place! Bartender was so friendly! Had a great time talking to him..We had 3 mini cocktails, the mule, Irish cofee and snickerdoodle. All very good!

Very dog friendly! Their tip jar is currently going to dog rescue!
    Christopher P.

Very friendly owner/bartender who is knowledgeable about her liquor selection and also the town itself.I heard her make more than one recommendation to others as they stopped in, even if it was for someplace to get a beer instead of liquor at her distillery. The seating inside is nice although not very big so if you've got a large group, you may be out of luck. They are very dog friendly and even had a tip jar that collected donations for a dog rescue. We will definitely be coming back!

If Distillery Tasting is what you're looking for instead of breweries, you need to check this place out. They have several vodkas, gins, whiskeys, & tequilas. $3.00 tastings or 3 for $10.00. Also picked up the unique square glasses that are perfect for sipping that great drink.

No food just yummy cocktails. Great space for a beverage. They have canned cocktails to go as well.

sampled some great spirits...left with absinthe and gin

If you're in Astoria and you like tasting spirits, stop by Pilot House! We walked in and took a seat at the high tables and the owner came over to personally greet us. He brought us samples of everything we wanted to try: absinthe, gin, a few vodkas. The drinking vinegars were very unique, I had never thought about sampling vinegars before this visit. The rhubarb vinegar was actually really good sipped alongside the sample of chocolate mint vodka. We left with a bottle of absinthe and gin...both delicious and smooth! I love visiting OR and shopping because there's no sales tax and the liquor taxes here are also cheaper than WA...good deals and good booze, what a winning combination! Be sure to give this place a visit. Well worth it and great customer service!

So unfortunately the tasting room wasn't open but.. the guy behind e counter was amazing. We bought a small bottle of the reposado tequila. Omg this is amazing. The flavor is pretty close to a don Julio 1942! It's amazing. The flavor is full and has a hint of vanilla. Needless to say we went back and bought a way bigger bottle. Give this spot a try it's amazing

Wide variety of distilled spirits, including absinthe. A-O whiskey was really good/smoothe. Try the spicy Bloody Mary mix.

WorldMark guests are treated to a complimentary tasting, so The Homie and I decided to check this out on 6/18/25. The counter person there was extremely welcoming and knowlegeable. He replied to my inquiry that they have been in business since 2018. He gave us the rundown of all the featured spirits: vodkas, rums, whiskeys, and liqueurs. The Homie selected 3 whiskeys & 3 liqueurs to sample. I selected all five whiskeys and the coffee liqueur. While we sat outside for our tasting, we also saw a deer and osprey. I ended up buying a 375 mL bottle of the Rhubarb Elderberry liqueur to take home. The Homie and a friend also visited today (3/20/25) and purchased some gin for a family member. Approachable and no upsell pressure experienced, one can make a fairly educated choice and purchase.

He also gave a little backstage tour which gave us more insight into the company and process, and told us about local events, things to do and when the new bottles come out so we could plan future trips. We came to Sandstone Distillery through Harvest Host, a membership program that offers unique overnight stays for RV'ers. We arrived on a day the tasting room wasn't open however John & Jennifer graciously opened their doors for us and gave us and evening we'll forever remember! My husband and I each had a different tasting, one was amber spirits and one was clear spirits. The tasting also came with some premixed cocktails they offer. With each spirit and cocktail, John told their story which created a genuine interest in the spirits! We sipped each one and learned so much about the process and passion that it takes to create amazing spirits. We walked away with three different bottles and returned two days later for 3 more!! Jennifer has also created some utterly amazing sipping vinegars, Wild Heart Sipping Vinegar, and will offer a tasting of those as well, make sure you taste them, they're phenomenal! We had a great time at Sandstone Distillery and will definitely be back!

We got there around 6:30 PM on Thursday evening and the wait was about 20 minutes for families, but we sat at the bar at a high top and got right in. We found service to be friendly and prompt. The gentleman who was taking care of us was attentive without being pushy. We started with the fried pickles which came out with ranch and aïoli for dipping. It was a huge portion. Tasty indeed. While I know pickles are inherently salty, I did find these to be exceptionally salty, leaving me to wonder if the batter was also salted, which definitely would not be necessary. Just know that if you are planning on ordering them. We also both got the Smoked Steak Salad. The salad was fresh and nicely dressed. Both of them came with a very generous serving of meat. The meat was just OK. They do not ask you how you would like your steak cooked, so once I got it, that made sense. I'm guessing they don't just smoke it for a little bit and finish the cooking it another way because it is well done with some rough bits - perhaps leftovers from something else. Honestly, I would prefer to have a nice juicy steak on top of a salad, and while I enjoyed this enough, I probably would not get it again for this reason. We both got a beer flight too, and found all four choices to be really good! I will definitely come back here when I'm tired of options at Great Wolf. I'd be interested in trying their sandwiches, as I saw a couple people with French Dips that looked really good.

We were excited, greeted nicely and were sat down pretty quickly. Then it took a turn. Our waiter took alittle while to get to us. Once he did, he was basically rushing to get our order. 20 mins later came back with our water and my husbands Bourbon Flight. This is me by the way looking at my photo album to track the time. 25 mins later our appetizer came and they were delish. We had ordered Garlic Parmesan Wings and Giant Pretzel. We waited over an hour and our waiter finally comes back to tell us that due to a Big Table outside our food is running behind, we said that's fine. 30 mins later, he comes back and tells us he mistakenly did not put our orders in and he takes full accountability but the fact that he only placed 1/2 of order and realized it an hour and a half later and waited 30 mins passed to tell us was beyond acceptable. We had a 1 year old and a 2.5 year old babies with us, we got there at 5:15pm and left at 8pm with no Main Course, we decided to leave and they offered to give us our main dishes for free and that had to pay for our apps and drinks. At that point, we weren't even hungry anymore- we were more upset than hungry. Word of Advise- don't dismiss a table of 5 for a table of 20. That party of 20 already includes 16%-18% Gratuity on their Tab, whereas a table of 5 could be giving you 20%-25% Gratuity for yourself only & not to have to share with other servers esp. if you are given cash. That table of 5 could sit there for hours just sitting and chatting and won't turn the tables over to new guest, whereas a table of 5 can eat, enjoy their meal, give good tip and leave within an hour and a half. And you'll have new table instantly, more money for you. To the kitchen staff, don't walk past your guests when they're asking you a question and as if they didn't exist. I'd hate to think it's Race Discrimination because we were the only Asians there but that's definitely how it felt.
