    Great bar back
    Jim P.

Arrived here an hour early in order to enjoy a drink or 2 and dine before listening to a presentation about historic Astoria waterfront. At 6:00PM, we were the only people present and had our choice of where to sit in this comfortable and historic brick building. Chose to sit at the bar and over the next hour watched over 100 people arrive for a packed house! The food menu is limited to chowder, a few sandwiches, shrimp/ crab cocktails and the posted specials of a turkey sandwich or crabcakes. We both opted for the crabcakes which were two small but meaty portions, tasty and fresh, sided with a cup of tasty coleslaw. They offer a full bar with their own gin and Vodka as their whiskey is still aging. I started with Pendleton whiskey rocks, then a smooth Manhattan and finished with a delicious Gin fizz. The food and drink were expensive however, also proving you get what you pay for which was a very nice evening.

Finding Absinthe is rare, but Pilot House has it, and it's the real deal with the wormwood. They even have the absinthe pour tap, so they can do it up right. In addition to the absinthe, which I absolutely had to get, I also ordered a gin flight. My server, John, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The patrons there were all friendly. The atmosphere was comfortable and they had plenty of swag. I bought a tiny bottle of absinthe and a sweatshirt, so I would have fond memories of that fine establishment every time I wore it.

While I got a beer my wife if a Gin and Tonic gal which is not for me at all. Unless its Paint Lady Gin apparently! She stopped me and told me I had to try it. I rolled my eyes a little because gin is an thing you either love or hate and I am not a lover of gin but this Gin and Tonic was great! We ended up doing a flight of their Gin and the regular was still by far our favorite. We saw them at the market that weekend a purchased a bottle to bring home! Truly the best Gin I have ever had! I would also like to say as someone who runs a non profit animal rescue Pilot House Distilling donated towards our auction. I put two and two together later. Just goes to show how much they support local.

WorldMark guests are treated to a complimentary tasting, so The Homie and I decided to check this out on 6/18/25. The counter person there was extremely welcoming and knowlegeable. He replied to my inquiry that they have been in business since 2018. He gave us the rundown of all the featured spirits: vodkas, rums, whiskeys, and liqueurs. The Homie selected 3 whiskeys & 3 liqueurs to sample. I selected all five whiskeys and the coffee liqueur. While we sat outside for our tasting, we also saw a deer and osprey. I ended up buying a 375 mL bottle of the Rhubarb Elderberry liqueur to take home. The Homie and a friend also visited today (3/20/25) and purchased some gin for a family member. Approachable and no upsell pressure experienced, one can make a fairly educated choice and purchase.

Theo was friendly, knowledgeable and gave us recommendations based on what we preferred. He also gave a little backstage tour which gave us more insight into the company and process, and told us about local events, things to do and when the new bottles come out so we could plan future trips. The tasting room is small, just a few stools and one table inside but on a sunny day there are picnic tables outside.

John & Jennifer had a dream and they have made it reality with their passion, hard work and dedication and it shows! We came to Sandstone Distillery through Harvest Host, a membership program that offers unique overnight stays for RV'ers. We arrived on a day the tasting room wasn't open however John & Jennifer graciously opened their doors for us and gave us and evening we'll forever remember! My husband and I each had a different tasting, one was amber spirits and one was clear spirits. The tasting also came with some premixed cocktails they offer. With each spirit and cocktail, John told their story which created a genuine interest in the spirits! We sipped each one and learned so much about the process and passion that it takes to create amazing spirits. We walked away with three different bottles and returned two days later for 3 more!! Jennifer has also created some utterly amazing sipping vinegars, Wild Heart Sipping Vinegar, and will offer a tasting of those as well, make sure you taste them, they're phenomenal! We had a great time at Sandstone Distillery and will definitely be back!

But we do like to change it up and go to a distillery or a winery frim time to time. Stopping at Sandstone was just the perfect stop for this change of pace. We had a small taster set of a few of their different spirits which were great. Everything we had was wonderful and Steve bought a bottle of vodka I believe to take home. The staff were wonderful as they were very friendly and took us around on a small tour going over the distilling process and the history of the equipment there. This was a great stop and one worth making stops at whenever you are nearby. I also believe you can get their products online or at select stores.

Walking in we were greeted with friendliness and seated in an area that we liked. The hostess steered us to a talk that wasn't cold - since that was the one thing I mentioned. I hate being cold. :) I was lucky enough to order their cheeseburger from the happy hour menu. I think it is the same as the one on the regular menu. I had expected just a burger and was pleased to see it came with fries. Our server was prompt, helpful, and nice... the whole team was. The burger was a smash tyupe burger and I found the texture of the meat pleasing and tasty, just a bit of crust as some many people love on a smash burger. The condiments we fresh enough and had good flavor. When I say fresh enough I mean that the lettuce and onions didn't have a crunch to them, but they weren't mushy. Overall one of the better burgers so far. This venue would be good for anything from a family meal to some afterwork laughs or even a romantic dinner. The only reason it didn't get the fifth star is because of the condiments not being nice and crunchy. Solid place to eat and I would recommend.
