My family and I stayed at La Croix and felt it was good value for the remodeled rooms. We spent a…read morefew nights in the un-remodeled room (silver king) and we felt it was quite old and more of a 3*. We had a better experience with the remodeled rooms, which were spacious and the AC was strong. Each room also had its own small balcony with 2 chairs.
I will say that we still were not fans of the remodeled baths. They look okay but they are all a half glass partition, and the rainfall showerhead from the ceiling is not moveable, so you are guaranteed to get water on the floor outside the bath, which was annoying. I can see in the remodeled baths that they tried to replace / paint over the surrounding baseboard, but it would be better if the door closes all the way and there is a higher lip to prevent the water from getting on the bathroom floor at all.
A couple of family members stayed at the beach haus, which could be noisy during pool hours (9 am - 8:30 pm) as the pool is literally 5 feet outside your front door and there is a small gap at the bottom of the door, so sound travels. Also, it's hard to keep the shades next to the door open as people can see inside to the kitchen area, so they mostly kept that closed and only opened the curtains to the patio for sunlight.
The check-in area downstairs is small but around the corner there are some chairs and a table. It wasn't the kind of reception area that people would hang out at, just mostly for checking in and grabbing some filtered water, etc.
The second part of our stay, we also had monkeypod access. It was a nice to have but it's definitely not something I think is worth paying for. We had the hotel breakfast ($20) in the mornings a few times, which is located in the same room as the monkeypod lounge. It usually is the same spread every other day with 4 hot foods - one day it might be fried rice, sausages, scrambled eggs - and the next it would be bacon, pancakes, and scrambled eggs - and it would repeat again. The other items, such as apples and oranges, bottles of water, a coffee machine that makes lattes (just ok), cereal and granola - were available all day, so if you have monkeypod you would be able to access these snacks. Just no hot foods which are breakfast only. It was nice to come up to the pod and see the views over the city as it's on a high floor.
The stand-out and why I am giving 4* is because of their customer service. When I booked back in April, I took screenshots of the final amount and details, as their website does not automatically send me a copy of it. It only emails you to tell you the deposit charged and final amount, no breakdown. When I checked in, the amount didn't look right but I also didn't want to spend my vacation figuring out why. After my trip ended and I returned home, I emailed the hotel with all the info. Within a couple of days, they were able to figure out the billing discrepancy and get back to me with the refund issued. I'm very pleased with their follow-up and that they were able to take the info and figure out the solution, instead of me chasing and following up, so props to their customer service!
TLDR:
- great customer service via email when it comes to billing discrepancies
- silver rooms were not remodeled, expect older, outdated style
- beach haus is noisy
- remodeled room was great, just watch out for water pooling outside of shower stall
- monkeypod is nice to have if it comes with your room access but i wouldn't pay extra for it
- breakfast is basic, skip and eat elsewhere
- pool was small, maybe 10'x15'?
It is on the northern end of Waikiki so to stroll down to international marketplace took about 12-15 min but it's a straight shot and walkable. It was also quieter at night than if you were center of Waikiki, I imagine.
I did get a good deal for the suite booking (2 rooms, 2 baths). If there are no decent promotions, then I think some of the newer boutique hotels closer to mid-Waikiki might be better value.
I was overall happy with the remodeled rooms.
