    Dining area for breakfast

I was not sure what I was going to get when I booked this place. I am so happy that I did! Located in Manoa it still gave me the comfort of semi country life no hustle or bustle of city life. The whole trip was planned to visit our newly born grandson and this location was within minutes of their home. The place is on the National Historic list and I loved the whole atmosphere of the area. It is run by a family that resides on the premises and is available should you need them.

The beloved and I have just arrived in this airy, historical, darling home.

My boyfriend and I were in a pinch and needed a room last minute. I was a little bit nervous because I read the reviews about there not being a shower, breakfast being lousy and it smelling like wet dog and whatever else people had said. My experience was completely different. We were welcomed by a beautiful Japanese woman who explained to us the house has been around since 1912 and was family-owned-and-operated. Due to the house being of age they kept an old fashioned style throughout the home. I found it very endearing. We stayed in the Baldwin room and my boyfriend whom is 6ft 2in did have a hard time fitting into the bed I on the other hand had no problem at my 5 foot stature. The shower is very roomy the bathroom is super cute and the bed was comfortable. The only issue I had was in the morning I was woken up by the rooster with the window open so that night I close the window and I had no issue the following morning. When we went downstairs we felt like we were in our families home a young man made us pancakes which were great with homemade strawberry jam and there was plenty of other selection of food items for breakfast including coffee, milk, fresh fruit, potatoes, bacon and more. I would prefer staying at a home like this over a hotel any day. They did have some dogs running around that you only saw in the morning but I didn't care. The dogs are well-behaved and didn't bother me whatsoever.

My wife and I had a very pleasant stay at Manoa Valley Inn. Tomomi and the rest of the family were extremely hospitable, including their dogs Peace, Duncan, and Yoda! The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was perfect! And, its location was nicely nestled in the Manoa Valley and we felt very safe throughout our stay. I would highly recommend staying there, whether you're a tourist or a Local.

    Nice salt water pool.

We stayed in the Baldwin room. It's a very spacious has an up-to-date modern bathroom with old world light fixtures. Great hot water. The bed was king size. The breakfast was very tasty. With eggs cooked order, toast and English muffins, various meats and potatoes. Lots of good coffee. The owners are on site and very willing to chat at the end of the day. We jumped into the saltwater pool, just to give it a go. The weather was not warm but the pool felt very nice. Really enjoyed the sound of the water, the visual of the gardens, the sound of the birds, just beautiful. The only downside was that I felt the bed was too firm for me. My husband was fine with it. When I spoke with the owners they sent some additional bedding for me to put down to soften the bed.

The view from my breakfast table.

This Inn has many wonderful attributes. A comfortable, quiet atmosphere with a nice second floor public room, 1st floor porch, and garden. Big turn of the century rooms and big windows through which a nice breeze and bird songs waft through. Great breakfast - rice w/ vegetables, or fruit, or pancakes or eggs. And, an incredible view down the valley from the breakfast porch. Just a five minute walk to the central UH campus. A great, attentive staff. But - dont' stay here if you want the air-conditioned, standard room, hotel experience. You won't be happy.

Very relaxing love everything in here there friendly met some people from Marseille they are friendly until next time

Seriously a dream staycation! Loved this place! and how it took you to a different era! I stayed in the Cooke's room which is ideally good for 2 people and possible a little one. Definitely recommend booking at least one night stay here. Staff is very nice! Place offers wifi, a/c, tv, private room, private bath, towels, clean sheets, blankets, hair dryer, body soap, and breakfast/coffee 7:30 am - 9:30 am. There is a beautiful garden and pool in the back. Check-in is easy and after 3 pm. I booked through airbnb and from start the finish the service here is superb! Keep in the mind the house is historic so it's not your luxury 5 star hotel, but it's so cozy and lovely i would chose this place over an expensive waikiki hotel any day! My only suggestion is to bring your own shampoo/conditioner as that is not provided. There are also 4 adorable dogs on the property! Parking is on property as there are is a small parking lot in the back.

Upon arrival, we noticed that the house was at the end of a well off neighborhood. The backyard contained a lot of wooden antiques and knick-knacks stored from floor to ceiling. These were blended into a huge two-level backyard that flourished with huge trees, a menagerie of plants, and wildlife... specifically Sunny the cat, who would mew his greetings to us and bask in the sun. Our host, Brooke, was born and raised on the island and was a great source of recommendations and insight towards our experience. She made sure we had local fruit and homemade breakfast each day during our stay, and was more than accommodating with extra supplies (cooler, beach towels, sunscreen/mosquito repellent). We stayed for two nights in grandpa's apartment and when we had to head out extra early for our first day on the island, Brooke set aside our breakfast so we could have food when we got back. We would definitely come back and recommend it for people who value making connections and experiencing the island with people who call Hawaii home.

That's where the good ends. The bathroom isn't great, there isn't a light over the shower so it's quite dark in there, plus it wasn't draining well so our showers were turning into baths. Room was pretty nice overall. We signed up for SUP, and it was my girlfriend's first time ever doing it. We expected someone from the resort to be there to show us the ropes and give us some information...there was absolutely nobody. We went searching for people, and the maintenance people didn't really say much of anything. We went into the Kahaluu bay area and I fell off my SUP once and ended up scratching up my leg and foot pretty bad...would have been nice to know the bay was only a few feet deep in some parts, with rocks on the seafloor to avoid. We also signed up for their big Saturday "Paradise Bay Experience Package" out to the reef to snorkel and to the sandbar to walk around. We signed up for a 10 am departure time. They called at 9:50 am to double check we were still going on the experience and I confirmed yes to checking out and yes to the experience. We went upstairs to checkout a few minutes later, and it took us a few minutes to do so because they said they wouldn't trust us to not return our towels and car parking pass after the experience, so we had to grab them RIGHT THEN. Okay fine, we bring those to them and notice from the front desk the boat for the experience literally leaving the dock at 9:58 am...WHY?!? I ask them and they say it was our fault, and we were supposed to be there at the boat 5 minutes early...NOBODY TOLD US THAT! Not when we signed up for the experience, and not in the follow-up email we received about it, which I'll attach below. So then they rush to call the boat captain to say to come back to the dock. You JUST called me 10 minutes prior and I said we were going on the experience, did you not communicate that with the boat staff? Clearly not. We end up jumping on the boat at 9:59 am after it had returned, so after all that hassle we were a minute early. No sorry from anyone, not even any acknowledgement from the boat staff. Long story short, this could easily be a 5-star hotel and experience if the hotel had a completely different staff, filled with people with more compassion, customers service skills, and a greater care for hospitality.

For breakfast, we found a healthy selection of fruit, juice, pastries, yogurt, and bottled water waiting for us in the refrigerator. There were also many kinds of k-cup coffees and teas for us to choose from. The towels were fluffy, the bedding was comfortable, and the toiletries were quality organic products. We loved walking to the quiet Kailua beach and to the shopping plaza across the street for delicious poke bowls. I was beginning my work week at the time we spoke. Jeanette requested I mail a personal check. I sent the check in the mail about six days later from the mainland. I received a voicemail eleven days later saying my reservation had been cancelled because she had not received my deposit within ten days. Jeanette never said anything about a ten day limit. Also, I am not sure why she expects a ten day limit when people are likely sending checks from various places in the world. Although displeased with her level of service, I asked Jeanette to please wait on her decision, as I had already put the check in the mail almost five days earlier and we were really looking forward to our stay there. She said she would wait one day for the check to arrive. I thanked her for that and said I hoped the postal service would come through for me in time. I gently suggested she make it clear on the phone to her customers about the ten day rule when reservations are being made, to limit any confusion about that. She responded saying she would consider that for the future and to now consider my stay with them cancelled. I was so surprised at this! I made attempts to be peaceful with Jeanette and even told her I was sorry she felt upset, and I had no intentions of making her feel badly. I told her I was just suggesting it for the ease of things. It seemed Jeanette could not accept she had contributed confusion to the situation, let alone be told that by a customer. I was very docile and non-agressive with Jeanette throughout the whole phone conversation. It is a shame she is so limited with her communication skills and was so defensive. In the end, I think I am really glad we are not staying there. I'd rather find out about this sort of problem beforehand, especially a place as personal and intimate as a B & B! Let's hope she sends my check back! :P

There are two units, both sectioned off from the house with private bathrooms, one with more space and a kitchen. We chose the smaller unit which was cheaper, only $75 a night for the end of January. The place is two blocks from the beach and there are two beach access points nearby. I was nervous, given the low price and my unfamiliarity with Kailua. All my fears were gone the minute I saw the place. A large bed, a private bathroom, a mini-fridge, microwave and toaster oven. Even a television with cable and room for our stuff. It missed four stars for only one reason: parking. The house is set back from the road down a narrow driveway flanked by a concrete wall and a fence.
