I will never forget the way the Hawaiian breezes felt in my hair. And I will also never forget the outstanding hospitality, accommodations and luxury of this gorgeous hotel. I love that it is in the heart of Waikiki, very walkable to shopping and nightlife should you want to leave the grounds of the resort. The nightly local music with hula under the sky is magical. Reservations for dinner, or grab a first come first serve cocktail table at 5 to watch the sunset! There is also nightly jazz in the bar. La Mer is a one of a kind French experience and Orchids is fantastic for any meal of the day. Just outside the hotel is a delightful oceanfront park where the hotel hosted yoga each day. A highlight for me. Great poolside service. The beach is small, so if you are looking to lounge on the beach, that's not really much of an option. This hotel is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. So you know it has the highest standards. That brand has never steered me wrong. And the fact that it is not under a massive hotel chain umbrella means it can maintain its authentic individuality. Pro tip: if you have a late flight, there is a lounge where you can relax and prepare for your departure, as check out is 11am. read more

The Halekulani staff just keep on raising the bar by delivering excellent service in an absolutely stunning space. I recently came here for a newly opened art exhibition at the hotel: Nanea i ka hulu by Enoka Phillips. The gallery is open from 9am-7pm, I highly recommend coming by to browse the pieces of Hawaiian feather art by this local artist. I didn't know that this gallery area existed and I often walk by when going to House Without a Key. The gallery is so well lit, showcasing the art in the best lighting. It is a small space but the layout is so intentional and you could do a quick walk through or really spend time analyzing and appreciating each piece. I'm never coming to the Halekulani again without also taking a look into their art gallery. read more

I love this place but it was too busy and crowded this weekend with that tech conference. My husband and I got stuck with one of the older rooms for people with disabilities 431. The shower area overflooded because the shower head was facing away from the drain. Ugh. I dislike that setup so much. Not the best room we stayed at but we still enjoyed our time. Staff were friendly from front desk, housekeeping, buffet staff, to the bellboys. House with a key staff will be discussed on their page. How disappointing their dinner service was. It's always clean here and I love their bidets. It's worth every penny to stay especially how close we are to beach but I'd love to have a better room next time. A sanctuary of serenity in the hubbub of Waikiki, Halekulani provided Kelly and me with a restorative escapade on our inaugural Hawaii trip. We cannot wait to return. Flawless service and a gorgeous open air lobby with multiple sites for lounging await you upon checkin. The rooms are large and the bedding comfortable. Most rooms have at least a partial ocean view, but layout, geography, and neighbors mean not all views are equal. I assure you that it is worth paying the premium to get a room with a view of Diamond Head - we did not regret it. Early November, the vibe was very chill and seductively silent, while still sunny and warm (80s in the day). The air is fragrant with flowers and you walk around in a daze. There are luaus every night and tiki drinks abound. For dining, Orchids and La Mer are both flawless fine dining experiences. Lewer's is a seductive cocktail lounge with live jazz. Daily brunch is expansive with superb omelets and freshly squeezed juice. The pool is salt water, and if you go early enough, you can float off on your back in the largest sensory dep tank in the archipelago. I spent multiple mornings floating off into space to start my day, doing my best nihilist interpretation. The pool is also equipped for a chair lift, to ensure that those with disabilities can enjoy the restorative waters. Not much of a beach, but that's par for the course in Waikiki. Walk a bit to the West and you can access a larger beach and boardwalk via a public walkway to the ocean next to the beautiful Hawaii Army Museum. read more

This is for the valet and banquet staff - events and catering. If you want to know what incredible top notch service is, use Halekulani. Yes Halekulani is known as a high-end hotel but there's a reason. This place is leaps and bounds better than any other place I have been. Everyone from top to top is right there when you need them. The place is still kept in great condition after all of these years. But one man in particular is above and beyond. He had a sense of exactly what you needed and when; his name is John Nakama. This is the type of person you want at the best places - almost like a ninja he appears with EXACTLY what you needed - whether it be waters for everyone just as someone mentioned they were thirsty or providing things that we mentioned in passing. I mean, I can't think of anyone that provided this level of service - he made the event! The Halekulani made the event the best I have ever experienced - worth every cent. read more

I have to imagine this is one of the nicest if not the nicest hotel in Waikiki. Ocean front, near shopping, but also quiet which is hard to get in the area. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The few things I personally enjoyed was the thoughtfulness of the room amenities and layout with little gifts each day. They shut down the pool at night which keeps the kid noise from going until 10 like most places. The security guards keeping people from randomly entering the grounds. They have a surfboard/SUP rental onsite and the grounds are immaculately kept. Lastly, they have 3 amazing restaurants onsite too. Just make sure to bring pants for the fancy French restaurant (I only brought shorts and missed out trying that one). Only downside is it's really expensive, but our rates might have been higher than normal due to a Japanese holiday. read more

Beautiful hotel offering gracious bilingual (English/Japanese) service, convenient location and spacious modern rooms. Enjoyed the iconic Diamond Head views from our room, excellent breakfast buffet and spacious immaculate salt water pool with plenty of loungers for everyone. The amazing ikebana flower arrangements placed around the grounds were a beautiful sight to behold every day. Highly recommend the sunset hula show and/or dinner at House Without a Key, along with their fresh fish dishes and light as air coconut cake. Note that Halekulani has great views but no real beach access due to shore erosion (save a sliver of sand accessed through a locked gate with key card access), so beach lovers may not prefer this hotel. Although I did see a few weddings and corporate events while I was there, Halekulani's overall mood is quiet and refined. No loud music, pool games or raucous groups. We've stayed here 10 or 11 times .. has always been one of our favorites! Anywhere!! But this time ... not so great ... they have a large convention here & apparently not enough rooms for conventioneers to meet so they spread out in all the common areas .. we had breakfast at 8:30 , came back at 1:30 for lunch & people were still sitting at tables they occupied for breakfast....5 hrs later ! Same guys ! Staff says it crazy ...all their regular guests are upset . We visited with one older couple we remembered from last year ... they left 3 days early!! I am all for company making money but staff up ... have meeting spaces available for conference attendees. Not sure we'll return Had dinner at Orchid room last night... they were out of 3 of the entrées'!! Come on ... really!! read more

A lovely experience start to finish. Only got to spend two nights here, but I did experience nearly all parts of the resort, and none of them disappointed. On check-in, my Leading Hotels of the World membership got me complimentary breakfast at either the House Without a Key (HWAK) buffet or the Orchids set menu. The perk included tax and gratuity, and the spread at the buffet was really impressive. Also got coupons for two complimentary cocktails at HWAK (also including tax and gratuity). The check-in attendant was superb and gave me a nice overview of how things worked, then led me to the room and showed me the features. The room itself is very comfortable. It's a great size and maybe not as flashy as some others (calming and neutral was the goal), but it looks sleek and sophisticated, and I enjoyed the love seat for lounging. The mattress was firmer than the average, but I slept very well on it. Plenty of closet and drawer space, and the bathroom was large as well. You can access the closet from the entryway or the bathroom. The toilet is high-tech and opens automatically on a motion sensor. It has all kinds of bidet functions and flush settings. It reminded me of the one in The Simpsons when they go to Japan; it did everything but say, "I am pleased to accept your waste." My only minor complaint about the bath facilities was that the water in the shower didn't get quite as hot as one might like. The balcony felt like a good size to me, and even though the furniture wasn't quite as high-end as you might expect, I'm guessing that was a result of the realities of outdoor wear and tear on the ocean. The legs of the tables and chairs had little socks on them, and I realized that was to keep them from scraping on the concrete and making a lot of noise, so that was a nice touch. I had a room categorized as partial ocean view, but it seemed like more than partial to me. It wasn't a direct ocean view, but it was quite sufficient. The pool with its iconic orchid mosaic is a stunner; the lawn with loungers both in sun and shade is expansive and the pool service is terrific. It received plenty of use, but it never felt overcrowded. The hula and music at HWAK in the evenings provide an unbeatable way to savor the sunset. The menu at Orchids restaurant offers a wide array of selections in a less formal (but still very upscale) setting. Dinner at La Mer is a lifetime memory, where you can experience the highest level of service and cuisine and still have control. There are various multi-course tasting menus, but everything is also available by the cart. The expert staff will guide you flawlessly in your selections. Don't miss a nightcap at the L'Aperitif bar on the way out, where the professional bartender will help you wind down after the beautiful meal experience. A final stop at the Lewers Lounge for a final cocktail (or two, who's counting?) and some jazz piano or combo music will end your night elegantly and romantically. Service throughout is impeccable; friendly and very efficient with just a touch of deference, but never losing the aloha vibe. The public areas are exquisite, with giant, stunning flower arrangements all around and manicured lawns sitting off terraces with comfortable but well-appointed decor. Of course, the action of central Waikiki is literally just across the street, but once I'd stepped into the gracious enclave of the Halekulani, there was nothing appealing enough to make me want to leave. read more

Stayed here for a special event with my family and had a wonderful time. Rooms are updated, clean and spacious. Location is SO CONVENIENT! Just walk outside of the hotel and you have access to all of the restaurants, designer shops n Honolulu. We loved the spam musubi shop across the street. Our teenagers were able to explore outside of the hotel on their own and it felt very safe. Hotel buffet is pretty amazing with both western and Asian food choices. My only complaint is limited beach access. If you want to go to the beach, you will have to trek to another beach nearby. The beaches that are accessible from this hotel are limited and the sand section is tiny. Stay here for convenient access to shopping, restaurants, nightlife. read more

I'm captive to the Bonvoy hotel program (Marriott/Sheraton/Ritz Carlton/etc.) so I didn't stay here. This review is for an event I attended at the Halekulani; the hotel is so spectacular I had to review it. [I stayed at another awesome hotel, the Royal Hawaiian, a few sand hills down]. The Halekulani is so serene and beautiful, it almost takes your breath away when you walk up to it. Like other ocean-front properties, it has a giant open lobby to sweep you in. It's not a madhouse either, with a busload of guests and their golf clubs waiting in line to check in. Uniformed, friendly staff is everywhere, ready to help a confused Yelper like me ("I'm here for the Kim wedding?!?") Instead of showing me where to go, a staff person took me -- in the elevator and halfway across the hotel. Location is everything. You need to be on the Waikiki beach side, or you are crossing a busy street with all your beach stuff like a pack mule. The wedding (which I officiated) was scheduled to be outside on a huge terrace but, with a hint of rain in the air, hotel staff sprang into action and moved everything inside (where the dinner would be held). After the ceremony, while we had drinks on the terrace, staff again performed wonders and turned the room back into dinner seating for 200. No review of the Halekulani would be complete without a nod to their famous Coconut Cake, which was our wedding dinner dessert. Do not sleep on this cake -- it is so delicious! Actually, I ate my piece and the bride's piece too, as it was too rich for her Ozempic-reduced appetite that day. Planning an event in Oahu? Look no further! Wonderful getaway for our anniversary. This hotel was perfect in every way. The staff were attentive and full of aloha. They have a wonderful salt water pool we enjoyed and the food was top notch. We ate at Orchids and had delicious Hawaiian sea bass and sashimi and polished off the moist and delicious coconut cake(the best I HAVE EVER HAD!!). Would love to stay at this Hotel, but a bit out of our league this time as we were in a suite at a nearby Hotel with my wife's parents from Japan. The breakfast was incredible and so relaxing with a table with a beautiful view of the ocean, fantastic service, coffee was great and food fantastic. My wife had loco moco and I had the typical breakfast. We also had drinks at the bar by the pool, the typical fruity Mai Tai and such. First- the positives. Halekulani offers the ocean front views and access unmatched in Waikiki. Going from the hotel to the pool to the ocean to snorkeling the reefs in minutes. The live music at Sunset and the quality of food and experience at Orchid's restaurant was a major highlight of the Aloha Spirit (can't remember our Brazilian waiter's name but he was very engaging and provided A+ service) Now- the negative(s). The Halekulani, unfortunately, has lost a bit of its pre-Covid magic (we stayed often pre- 2020). The recently renovated rooms seemed smaller and less upgraded than before. The amazing shampoo and conditioner (I still have a few mini bottles from 2019) are gone. Requested a higher floor at check in (denied). 1 hour later checkout request (denied). Overall- my wife and I have been traveling to Hawaii together for over two decades (she has family there). Waikiki has always been a hallmark of our travels. This time- Waikiki & Halekulani came in second place compared to our North Shore experience (next review coming soon). read more

Pool is quite the oasis with food/beverage/chair service. Carlos & Kawalo right there to help in any way! "Room without a Key" is a lovely breakfast/lunch venue that offers an extensive buffet breakfast catering to all American and Asian tastes. The staff is professional, warm and inviting. Stunning. Beautiful. Perfect!! My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights of our honeymoon and decided to switch hotels for a change of scenery when we extended our honeymoon 3 more nights (HUGE mistake!) The service is incredible. As soon as we entered our room, there was champagne and fresh fruit waiting for us. Everyone we came across was so kind and pleasant, from valet to the poolside servers to housekeeping. They really go above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful stay. The location is great. It feels a little more private than other hotels in the area and has its own beach which was super nice. Room service was quick and delicious, House Without a Key was delicious, and the drinks and dessert at Lewers Lounge were delicious. We went to the jazz club at Lewers Lounge two nights in a row and the entertainment was spectacular. We are currently at the second hotel of our stay with two nights left to go. We cannot stop saying how it was a mistake to not just stay at the Halekulani the entire time. We can't wait to be back! read more

I have stayed at many Four Seasons, Auberge properties and several Ritz'. Although all are very nice and you usually can't go wrong with them, the Halekulani has truly proven to be a 5 star choice. Everyone was so customer service oriented and they all truly seemed happy. The staff will bend over backwards to make sure that you are having the best experience possible. This is the second time we've stayed here and I swear it keeps getting better. The hotel is super clean, and the restaurants are great. There was also entertainment every night at sunset which is super classy and so Hawaiian. I love this place. read more

This is a classic resort located in the heart of Waikiki. The grounds are beautifully manicured and there are lots of quiet places to sit and relax or take in the view of palm trees or the ocean. The in-room dining food was ok, but lacked some seasoning. Unfortunately our AC didn't work properly and we had to call maintenance to repair it. Also, we requested a fan because our room was very warm and they weren't able to locate one after searching for one hour. We ended up canceling the fan request and just went to bed because it was getting late. The bed is excellent and was super comfortable! Unfortunately the bathroom is starting to show its age with the grouted tiles and could benefit from an update. It was extremely clean though! The room was also super clean. The furniture is in great condition and the large tv is nice. The balcony furniture does not have cushions, but you can use a towel on the chair to be more comfortable if the sun has made the metal edges too hot. The pool service was disappointing because the chair cover had a huge tear/hole in it and the staff member saw it but didn't offer to replace it. The passion fruit popsicles were fabulous though!! We stayed here over 15 years ago and had very fond memories from that stay. So for our extended Hawaiian winter vacation we thought we'd stay here again. The first room offered to us, we were not happy about, so we asked for another. They graciously accommodated our request with an upgraded room. We had to wait a little to get in, but that gave us an opportunity to have our first Mai Tai of our vacation. The new room was exactly what we wanted. Very comfortable with a wonderful ocean view. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom very spacious. My only critique would be that the shower is a bit small. But not a big problem. Housekeeping was impeccable. Now that I have finally finished up my UK reviews finally (I think), I am moving on to our more recent trip to Hawaii. We spent several wonderful nights at the Halekulani Hotel during the time we were in Honolulu. We had seen it before and decided we wanted to stay here. We were not disappointed. Everything was outstanding and immaculate. The hotel has a nice architecture, all round, and it retains the historic old main building, over 100 years old, in the centre with two of the restaurants. The grounds around the old building are nice with grass and trees, with partly covered walks around it, and a classic lobby open to the air. Our room, a Diamond Head Ocean Prime, was magnificent. It had a spectacular view over Waikiki to Diamond Head. We had a nice balcony. The room was large, very comfortable, stylishly and carefully designed, with carefully designed, pleasant lighting. It was immaculately clean. The bathroom was magnificent with one of the best showers we have ever used, tub, and "smart" toilet. Service was outstanding, professional, and friendly at all times. Food at Orchids an House without a Key was excellent, the views and ambience excellent. Cocktails were the best we have ever had in Hawaii, balanced, characterful and consistent. Staff were excellent. Live music was low-key and pleasant. The whole ambience was one of classy, quiet retreat from the hubbub, and the often crass craziness of Waikiki. It makes the Royal Hawaiian and Moana seem loud and crass by comparison. We look forward to returning. read more

Overrated... $800-900 for a standard room. Surrounded by other hotels, towering over the property. Only enough lounge chairs at the pool for half the hotel guests. The neighborhood is stimulating however, there were many undesirable type vagrants walking around as well. I felt as though the management tried to make up for these short comings by providing extra service. Well, no amount of smiling or complimentary fruit in the room will accomplish that. The restaurants are nice but, they felt a bit pretentious and stuffy. The Ko'olina properties, Turtle Bay Resort, and the Kahala are better choices for a relaxing experience. One and done. read more

My husband and I stayed here for 8 nights for our honeymoon. Needless to say, we loved our stay in Halekulani! The staff are super helpful and friendly and very kind. Their gym was nice because they offered free fruits and water as well as disposable earphones in case you didn't have one. The pool is very nice and relaxing. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. They cleaned our room twice everyday and a turn down every evening. After every turn down, they would leave a gift and some cute cards that were very much appreciated! The room was very clean and spacious! They provided a coffee machine, kettle, and fridge. They provided water for us which was great! They also gave us with champagne and fruits which we were super delighted with! The only thing I didn't like was that the shower was quite small, but other than that, the room was pretty spacious for a standard room. The hotel was pretty much walking distance to a lot of malls and shops. It's about an 8 minute walk from the Hale Koa parking garage. We rented a car and we didn't want to pay $50/night for parking so we just bought a parking pass from the Hale Koa parking garage. All in all, my husband and I loved our stay at the Halekulani! We will stay here again next time when we come back to Waikiki. We love this hotel so much that when we plan our trip for Japan, we will stay at Halekulani in Okinawa! read more
