The area and shops etc was fine, we felt like locals. The beach is incredible, and the walk down in literally 2 min. You take your coffee cup down there, and there might have been 2 people and 6 miles of beach. Water safe and warm and clean and amazing. Local park right next to us was pleasant and not a disturbance. We where there new years on 2024, and had the time of our lives

Unfortunately, the conditions of the cottages weren't accurately depicted in the website photos. Neglected upkeep, noticeably inadequate cleaning, insects crawling on the floors, and unprofessional interactions with the management team. There aren't many options on this side of Oahu, but I don't recommend staying here. We were expecting rustic, but this property fell short on the following for us. 1. Grungy bathroom with only a retrofit micro shower. 2. Smoke detector missing from one of the bedroom ceilings. 3. Greasy substance on kitchen counter and cabinet doors. 4. Debris on top of the backrest of the well-worn couch. 5. Dirty windows and worn out screens. 6. Gross trash on the sidewalk at the stairs up to cottage 11. 7. Lots of rust and dry rot that require exterior repairs. 8. Flock of about 150 pigeons roosting and defecating on the roofs and power lines at the property entrance and parking area. 9. Worn out bedding blanket. 10. Window blinds in disrepair. We tolerated all of this without complaint. However, we did ask the person at the onsite office, Jennifer, to ask the guests staying in the unit above ours to please respect the stated quiet hours, especially when their young children would wake up and loudly begin their day before 6:00 AM. She said she'd have Tommy address this with them that afternoon. No change that night, and we checked the onsite office multiple times the next day but it was always locked. After another two nights of disrupted sleep for all four of us without follow up from management, we decided to cut our losses and leave a day early. Since the office was still unstaffed, we called the offsite management office. At that point, things went from bad to worse when they were extremely rude to us. They kept saying that we did not give them an opportunity to address the issues when we had done exactly that in person a few days before. But in their minds, since we had not called the emergency phone number, our other efforts did not count. Carolyn Rose's apology to us consisted of, "I'm sorry you were confused about how to contact us about the situation."

Hogan answered my emails & basically gave excuses why the washer was / dryer is occupied - no time or when the washer & dryer will be emptied. I find this 100% bad customer service No one is on property - i don't like being ignored - just words up - keeping Yelp customers informed - Big Complaint Mrs C disliking Payapa Paradise - and - unhappy - I still need to wash/dry only one load.

Smells of cat urine smack you in the face the moment you open that room door. The floors feel dirty and nasty. The air is thick and smells like mildew and cat piss. You instantly regret believing those online profile pics. You realize you've been catfished. The valet person is unfriendly and you first think, "hmm. Maybe just a bad day." You go to check-in and that's a breeze. You walk towards the elevator and look back and see the receptionist who checked you in is looking at you. Later, you realize he's wondering how long you'll last. You go into the dated and dirty-floored elevator that took too long to get to you. It takes you up to the fourth floor where you enter into the lair of doom. A flimsy lock opens at your keycard and in you go. Peeling wallpaper, dirty doors, lifting floor tiles, stained windows. You feel like this is a mistake. Your family is too afraid to get into bed. They keep their outside clothes on to protect them from bedbugs. You go downstairs to ask to be moved to another room. The night worked, Yuta or Yura greets you with kindness. He apologizes and says that they're all booked up and no rooms are available. You ask him to check if someone might be leaving tomorrow so you can get an idea if there's somewhere to move to tomorrow. He apologizes and says that he can't share that info. You're confused. Why can't he check the computer and see who is leaving tomorrow that might open up some availability for you? You ask to clarify. "So, can you give me some kind of guess or estimate to see who might be leaving tomorrow? Or some kind of idea if the answer will be yes or no if we can change rooms?" He then begins to repeat himself three or four times while blinking profusely. "I'm so sorry I can't help you. I'm so sorry I can't, I'm so sorry I can't help you." Panic hits you as you've seen 20/20 and First 48 and this type of outburst looks familiar. You apologize and slowly back away. Now you have to find a new hotel because what the heck was that? You try to get some rest after a long flight and strange encounters. But you can't. There's yelling, hooting, hollering, and a loud and obnoxious bass thumping in the distance. All. Night. Long. Finally at 3 a.m. you look outside and see, there's a club outside and the patrons have now gathered in the street just below your balcony across the street. It doesn't matter that the windows and doors are all closed, these sliding doors are from the 80s and they're paper thin. Finally, morning arrives and you get up to watch the sunrise. That's nice. After you head back, you go to check out their "continental breakfast". It's just an awful joke that won't stop giving. After everyone in your family is awake and your bags are packed, you go to leave. Before leaving, you stop and talk with the receptionist, Yama, Yana, or Yara. She says she'll refund the resort fee since there is no true resort. She's heard these same complaints before and did not seem shocked at my reporting at all. This place is ideal for someone on a budget, traveling without kids, and who doesn't mind a little dirt under their fingernails. I get home a week later and find that the resort fee was not refunded, and I have to call them back again. After all fees and taxes, a one-night stay in Leonardo DiCaprio's nightmare motel was about $548 USD. Wow. What a tale.

The small unit has a queen or king size bed, a mini kitchen, no oven, microwave etc. It has a full size bathroom, and it accessible. I would say the small unit is for two people, ike a couple or a small family with one child. I would 100% come again! You should definitely stay here!

Checking for availability was a simple e-mail inquiry, though I could have called as well. Response was prompt and concise. Reserved room through e-mail and called to give them the credit card info. There are two units, both sectioned off from the house with private bathrooms, one with more space and a kitchen. We chose the smaller unit which was cheaper, only $75 a night for the end of January. The place is two blocks from the beach and there are two beach access points nearby. I was nervous, given the low price and my unfamiliarity with Kailua. All my fears were gone the minute I saw the place. A large bed, a private bathroom, a mini-fridge, microwave and toaster oven. Even a television with cable and room for our stuff. While not top of the line, the room was everything I expected. Barbara and her husband were gracious hosts. We had immediate answers to any questions and a nice patio with a pool at our disposal. Bottom line: if you want a nice, simple starting point for your daily excursions, check into Auntie Barbara's now. For the price and amenities offered it can't be beat. It missed four stars for only one reason: parking. The house is set back from the road down a narrow driveway flanked by a concrete wall and a fence. Parking next to the house and getting back out is a nightmare. Thankfully we were able to utilize street parking and walked down the driveway to our unit after the first day.

The lobby is closed from approximately 11p-7a. However, it seems that they are nearby if you call them for some assistance outside those hours. I landed in Hawaii close to midnight but during those closed hours. They were very nice and called me to see if I was still coming. I told them that I just landed and would be there ASAP. The guy working at the front desk was very kind and waiting for me to show up. I give that man 10/10 stars! He was very friendly and I appreciated the call so I didn't get stranded outside for a little bit. On the other side of the lobby are two elevators and a door that leads to the parking lot. It is small and you have to pay but I didn't have a car with me. Also, there is a water station right next to the door which they keep covered during the night. It was very cold and very fresh. I appreciated that there! My room was very nice. It is very spacious. However, it was also very hot. It took my wife and I a little time to figure out how to cool down the room with the AC unit. There is no central air if it bothers you...I was okay but my wife hated that because she likes to be cold while she sleeps. It did not happen here until she slept on the futon under the unit! There is a full kitchen with supplies and a big fridge if you plan on cooking your meals... we did not cook anything. The bathroom was very nice. It has a sliding door which I dislike slightly. And all the doors/windows were frosted. So, someone in the bathroom during the night does shine up the whole place. The shower itself was amazing but unnecessarily huge. A group of 4 could easily shower together if that is what you are interested in. They do get half a star knocked down for hair all over the walls of the bathroom... one of my biggest icks. The bedroom was nice. However, there was no working light switch. I had to walk to the opposite wall to plug in a lamp. However, one of the walls has a window shade that we left completely open. The lack of easy access light in the room was another slight star ding. The location is amazing! There are plenty of restaurants near the hotel. And there are even two dessert places that I was aware of. I loved the shaved ice nearby. ABC store is right outside the door. The beach was only ~8-minute walk. And while there is no pool here, the pool is at the other main hotel location which was ~5 minutes away.

I wanted to see if the bar could make me a virgin Mai Tai, but they didn't open for another two hours. She said that they open at 3 PM. I'm not sure if that's every day of the week.... So instead, I went over to the snack bar, and I ordered a spam musubi, and an açai bowl. What a combination, eh? The spam musubi was very large, and it was delicious! The rice was tender, and the SPAM was done just right. It took a little bit longer to get my açai bowl, as they are made to order! When I did, I took it out back so I could eat overlooking the ocean. What a beautiful view, just so absolutely peaceful. This is just such an amazing place. The açai bowl was amazing. They were very generous with the toppings, the granola underneath the fruit was very good, and the açai itself was very slightly frozen, it melted perfectly as I went through the meal. Just a total home run. Bellows is a wonderful place for military recreation, let's hope it stays that way. Thank you for being there.

But the cabin was great and I would definitely stay again. We were in a cabin fronting the ocean and I liked that we had direct beach access. Some of the cabins you can fish from, but I prefer the ones in front of the beach. Our cabin didn't have AC, so next time I would bring a fan. There are two bedrooms - one with a Queen and the other with two twin beds. The bathroom is tiny, but has soap. You'll need to bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Outside the cabin is a picnic table, shower, hose, a grill and even a laundry line. Lots of people brought pop up tents. During our stay, my friend's son was stung by Portuguese man of war twice, so it may be helpful to bring vinegar for the sting. Don't forget your body boards or fishing poles! But even if you do, you can easily rent from Turtle Cove. During our stay, we didn't have housekeeping, although I think you can request it. One thing that I didn't note was that you are supposed to take out your trash and clean your dishes before you check out. They should probably remind you this when you check in. We had so much fun! Be sure to wake up for sunrise!

My sister and I stayed here for several days and did not feel it was unsafe. But know what you're getting into. There is a tiny lobby that's open from 8 am to 8 pm. The rooms are tiny -- think European capitol-sized -- with concrete block walls. The elevator is on the street, next to the lobby, and is accessed with your room key, right from the sidewalk. The carpet hasn't been cleaned in many months (or maybe years) and the pillows and sheets are not new. There is a Korean BBQ food truck next door and you can smell BBQ being grilled all day and Into the night (this was not a negative for us, BTW). There is no housekeeping service unless you're staying for over a week. There is no pool or gym. This is not a resort hotel by any means. But you're a couple of blocks from the beach in the middle of Waikiki. How much time are you going to spend in the room, anyway? If you're like us, not much. And you can borrow beach towels and boogie boards for that beach visit -- and use the sunscreen and the mosquito spray before you head out on adventures. There are dozens of restaurants within just a few blocks. As long as you're not entertaining customers or having a romantic weekend, it's a great place to stay.

Super friendly staff. Our room had a refrigerator and microwave which we utilized everyday. On the downside, the beds are not the most comfortable. If you can put up with the Korean BBQ smell all day from the food truck next door, you'll be fine. If you're on a budget, this is the spot in Waikiki.
