The friendly lady who helped us at Pillar Bluff.

Pulling up to Pillar Bluff's nearly-full unpaved parking lot, we saw a live band, BBQ, and a nice little group of people sitting on picnic tables in a giant outdoor gazebo. Attached to the huge plot of land was a small house, which was where the tasting room was. Their tasting room was pretty small, with a counter and 4 stools. Our hostess was a really pretty, friendly blond lady, who gave everyone nothing but smiles. She did the tastings of 6 wines in order on the list. They had fresh jalapeno goat cheese and sun-dried goat cheese with crackers, complimentary like the wine tasting. We tasted wines such as white Merlot (yes, it was white. It's a specialty they only sell during Xmas), bor doe (yes, they spell it differently than how we do), port, and pinot grigio. Dark chocolate chips were served with the port. :) We did not walk out of there with wine, but our brother in law left with a bottle of white Merlot, which was a very sweet wine. The goat wine was from Bradley Farms, a farm right next to the winery. We went there after wine tasting, to purchase some goat cheese ourselves. :)

Such a cute little quant vineyard and winery! We found this spot while doing a wine tour in Fredericksburg and Im sure glad we did. The wine was delicious and the man doing the tour was awesome. So friendly! Also, they told us about the best gold fish recipe ever - spicy ranch hold fish which we now make at home and for parties.

My favorite of the four wineries I visited yesterday. I loved the outdoor seating, the staff was great, and the petite Syrah was delicious!

Great wine! Nice quiet scenery and hospitality to go with it. I recommend the Tempranillo but all the wines are great.

The Vineyard at Florence - Margarita pizza

Had dinner with friends at The Vineyard at Florence Saturday. Started with drinks at the bar…read more Friendly service and the kind of atmosphere that you expect at a high end establishment. Knob Creek rocks, Elijah Craig rocks, a Ranch Water (a bit too sweet), and a classic Italian Aperol Spritz. Dinner on the patio starting with a smoked bacon appetizer followed by a wedge salad. Sugared bacon was delicious. Wedge didn't have the salad core removed which was a bit disappointing. Shared a coal-fired Margarita pizza with chicken added. Pizza was cooked perfectly and was delicious with a healthy amount of ingredients, including the excellent blend of cheeses. Our waiter Peter was very professional, friendly and informative. Definitely recommend the Vineyard for an upscale night out with excellent ambiance featuring a Mediterranean decor. Will go back.

It looked pretty, but nothing came together, and the biscuit was very dry. We also tried the Cuban sandwich--way too fatty and overly thick, hard to enjoy. The loaded croissant, however, was very good, and the fries were solid. The artichoke dip had little to no flavor, and the bread wasn't grilled like the menu said. The atmosphere was beautiful--you feel like you're in a villa. The country drive out there is nice, and the grounds are gorgeous. Drinks were on point and the wine was good, though pricey for a small pour. Our waiter was friendly but not very attentive. Overall, probably won't be back. We've had much better experiences at wineries in Fredericksburg. I don't mind paying for an expensive meal if it's worth it--this just wasn't. Very disappointed.
