This is a very basic grocery store in a low end neighborhood. It has everything you might need and the employees were friendly.

It's a Piggly Wiggly. I'm pretty sure they are all the same and this one is no better or worse than any others. We stopped cuz I needed cold medicine and my girl has not seen a Piggly Wiggly in years. read more

Stopped in after church on Sunday to grab meals. The line was practically to the entrance, but I saw someone I knew checking out, and she said it was moving at a decent pace. It took about 20 minutes. They have desserts, cold sides tempting you as the line moves along the deli & hot food area. I'm not sure if this was a regular Sunday menu, but they had fried chicken, fried fish, baked chicken, BBQ ribs, spaghetti, and baked turkey wings. The sides included red rice, Mac n cheese, green beans, cabbage, white rice, brown gravy, and more. There were about 3 or 4 workers preparing the plates, so they were moving at a good pace. The red rice had good flavor, but had some hard pieces & could've soaked a little longer. My mom did not enjoy the fish because it seemed old and wasn't seasoned well. My mac n cheese came from a new pan and was good, but her serving was not. The ribs were very good and flavorful. Entree with 2 sides costs $9.99, but seafood entree is $12.99. I also ordered a large sweet tea, which I haven't had in so long, and that was really good. Not overly sweet, and made just right. read more

I remember when Piggly Wiggly pretty much ruled the South's grocery market. They had stores that stretched all the way from the East coast to central Texas! A lot has changed since then, and it seems there are fewer and they are farther between. Nonetheless, I'm not to shy to stop in and get a few items when I'm close and in need. This location on Skylark Dr in West Ashley is a pleasant throw back to the past. They harbor an array of truly Southern delicacies you are unlikely to find elsewhere. The deli offers breakfast carry out M-F and I'll tell you that it must be great because there is always a line with at least 3-5 people waiting. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the morning manager has been in Charleston since time began, and knows that store like back of her hand! If you can't find it on the shelf and they have it in stock, she can take you right to it. As with all "older" names in the grocery business, usurped by the fancy and flashy new stores, this location could use some upgrades to lighting, interior design and shelving layout. But visit a couple times and you'll come to know why I'm not shy about stopping in. read more

I've been shopping at this Piggly Wiggly for over 15 years now. The last time I shopped there will be my last and I will shop at Food Lion or Harris Teeter from now on. The meat dept. smells horrible. There is meat still on sale that is green, disgusting. The bakery has expired and stale goods that I've bought. When you call customer service there is NEVER EVER a answer. The cashiers,yell and joke, carry on when your in line along with the manager who never says hello. The parking lot and trashcans are overflowing with garbage. None of my friends shop there anymore and I'm done. Food lion and HT employees and managers are great and stores don't smell bad. read more

Piggly Wiggly is a no-frills, old school, grocery store. If you want hot bars, sushi, smoothies, or build your own trail mix, you won't find them at Piggly Wiggly. They do have a deli and bakery and serve breakfast and lunch to go, which they serve for you (not buffet style). It's always slammed with local workers at lunch. The Piggly Wiggly associates are nice and the sales are comparable with other stores, with lots of buy one get one free items. The store's easy to get in and out of, and carries lots of local products. They recently started selling HardScoop alcoholic ice cream for $8.99 a pint too, which is cheaper than other places. You can also buy Piggly Wiggly merchandise, like shirts with the pig's face that say "I'm Big on the Pig". Piggly Wiggly may not be fancy, but the store's name is super fun to say and the service is good, so I'll be back. read more

Looking for good lunch plus soul food. Stop by piggly wiggly and grab breakfast, lunch or dinner. It's all well worth it. I was full for hours after eating red rice, very well seasoned turkey wings & baked macaroni and cheese. With a nice cold bottle of water on the side. I asked for the brown rice an instead of him saying it's okra brown rice they had to remake my plate because I'm not the person that likes okra. read more

Full disclaimer-My very first paycheck job was at a Piggly Wiggly on Johns Island in the early 80's so I have lots of fond memories and love for Piggly Wiggly. That notwithstanding, this is a 5 star establishment that is well known to locals as having some of the freshest meats in the local area (turkey wings, non-smoked pig tails, neckbones) and being one of the few places you can find local favorites like luncheon meat and liver pudding. The deli area stays packed and that is because the staff that works there can really cook and folks come from miles around for their breakfast, lunch and dinner specials. I personally tried the fried chicken, fried fish (flounder) and mac and cheese my sister purchased and they were all delicious. I will be stopping by here again when i am back in town. This location used to be BI-LO, and before that, it was Piggly Wiggly ... the Pig is back! It's not my first choice for groceries, but it's close to work, and I can get there and back in a pinch without getting fired for job abandonment. Stopped in today, their re-opening day, and picked up a few things for an office pot luck. Quatro de Mayo & Star Wars Day fiesta. Nice upgrades, fully stocked, lots of staff on hand. It's the first day, I know, but not a bad impression as I walked in to gather my goods. read more

The Piggly Wiggly in West Ashley is one of my favorite grocery stores to visit. I really like when they bring back things that I thought were once lost forever. I have always been Big On The Pig and this store delivers on a lot of what the old school Pigs once brought to the area. The deli section is the big reason to come to this store and has real cooking at a good value. I have been impressed every time that I have come here with the service and overall performance of this store. read more

Very poor experience here. I ordered the breakfast platter. It costs $3.99. I then asked to get extra meat. So I got double the ham. I obviously expect to pay more for this. But it changed the price to $9.99. So for $3.99 you get grits, eggs, ham and a biscuit. Adding one more piece of ham adds $6 to the bill. That's ridiculous. I will never shop here again. read more

I let someone talk me into getting food from here in order to obtain some of the famous red rice that Charleston is known for. The line was long and wrapped almost halfway across the back of the grocery store, which strangely gave me the illusion of despite us being in the deli of a classic and dated grocery store, something special must be happening here. We waited almost an hour. I ended up trying the okra rice and the turkey wings. All I can say is I now know without a doubt that my own soul food cooking is the FIRE!!! Everything was simply ok with an ever so slight dash of food poison to go along with it. Not the emergency room kind, just the my stomach hurts kind. Recent Bi-Lo conversion back to the Pig! Popped in here the other night. It was pretty deserted when I popped in to take a look around! I'm not sure if everyone in WA knows that the Pig was moving in, but it seemed like a ghost town in there. At this point, there's not a lot different than the Bi-Lo, as they did move in within a few days of each other! Just left this location that we only really shop at when leaving my gym bc it's right by it and a quick stop for dinner on the way home. I have never been so disrespected. The woman at the register shay made smart remarks under her breath stating that we must've just gotten our EBT card. I was so dumbfounded and felt so disrespected that I could not let it slide. This employee needs to be fired, it is completely unacceptable and if I had an EBT card I would've felt violated. It was completely rude and uncalled for. The store is so clean and orderly I picked up some fresh okra and green onions produce looked so good!

The quality and product selections in this store are lacking and highly over priced. The market has poor quality meats and poor selections to choose from. The teenage cashiers are rude and have no idea where items are located, and some of the management team is no better. They could learn a thing or two about customer service.
