I was in the neighborhood enjoying some Crafting fun across the street & noticed this Great little store. Very friendly & helpful young lady who enjoys some therapeutic crocheting! Nice looking veggies. I picked up some oyster mushrooms and Lions main. The Spinach and baby Arugula was so FRESH looking. Can't wait to try sautéed shrooms & spinach with pasta topped with Arugula and sprinkling of grated cheese. I also picked up some interesting beverages. Definitely on my return list! read more

I noticed this store walking down Spring street and popped in to see what it was all about. This is a healthy convenience store that sells fresh vegetables(a lot locally grown). They sell all sorts of milk and a variety of cheeses . They even sell several nonalcoholic beer options. Cool store. read more

Thanks to EW, she told me about the Veggie Bin on Instagram. I started following them and saw all of the great local veggies they carry, and jumped in the car Saturday afternoon and headed downtown. It's a small, what appears to be, an old quicky mart. The guy working was friendly and let me know they were already out of the beautiful purple cauliflower I had seen a couple days before on Instagram. I really wanted to get some but was able to get the yellow instead. I also was excited to get local watermelon radishes, local rainbow carrots, and heirloom tomatoes. I used some of everything I bought and it was all fresh and yummy. A couple of pro tips: if you carry a big purse, put it in the trunk of your car before you go in. The rows are tight. I ended up knocking a bottle of sauce off a shelf grabbing a bag to put veggies in. It didn't break, but it scared the heck out of me!!! And if you have your own cloth shopping bag, bring that in with you. It's definitely a store that wants to help do our part to save the planet!! read more

Absolute worst experience. Walked in with my sons to get something for their mom, who is Vegan. Store was packed. We said let's get takeout from pink cactus next door and walk back in when it's not so crowded. The girl in the shop was rude and clearly heard us say that. She could have told us, hey we are in a battle with pink cactus and you're about to be an innocent bystander in that battle. She called tow truck and I went to my car and got in before the tow truck could hook up to my vehicle. Literally at the same time we were walking back into veggie bin to do some shopping, was when the tow truck was pulling back to hook up to my vehicle. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! I got in my car and left and was thankful I wasn't hit with a $500+ tow bill and didn't get stranded with my kids. I get the limited parking, but we were parked there for 15 minutes. Clearly the chick in the veggie bin is just working there to sniff out who she can tow next. What a joke of a store and a giant joke of an employee. Get a life. read more

Visiting from Boston, we stopped by the Veggie Bin and asked the clerk for local recommendations. Later, as we passed by, we saw her closing up--and to our surprise, she had handwritten two pages of must-see spots, complete with thoughtful details on why we'd love them. Her suggestions were absolutely spot on! Thanks to her, we discovered incredible hidden gems we never would have found on our own. She truly made our trip unforgettable! Five stars...y'all...people and product. Spoke with owner on the phone because I needed a refill of my Big Kick Coffee. Super friendly and helpful. Picked up one of my favorites, Breakfast Blend and wanted to try the Jamaican me crazy flavored and it smells awesome...owner ground it for me so I didn't have to flavor my grinder...can't wait to brew it up. You can also get the coffee at the Charleston open air market. No visit to Charleston is complete without picking up a few pounds of Big Kick to take hone with you. I would ordinarily have frequented a place with this name and orientation. However, I had a terrible experience with the owner (?) yesterday. A brunette woman was super-rude to me when she asked if I was there for their store at closing time. I was not; it was the only apparent parking for The Pink Cactus, to its Left. I thought it all strange. I had to run in the Pink Cactus for a few minutes. She went on to tell me NOT to park in Veggie Bin's parking lot, even after it was closed. Super unprofessional and belligerently rude, I implore you and all my many friends not to support the Veggie Bin. read more

A small one-room store with specialty food items. I came in search of sea beans; apparently some seaweed is farmed locally. I found one or two other things, but there wasn't a ton that was worth buying for me. Even if I were local, it seems like a place I would only come to for small-niche things I couldn't get elsewhere. I happened upon this little gem of a greengrocer's right next door to Pink Cactus. Parking conveniently allocated right outside the door. What a fabulous find. I bought all my fresh organic vegetables for the week here. They also have coffee beans with a grinder, fresh breads, oils, butter etc. I'm sure the people who live in this neighborhood downtown are very happy to have this shop nearby. It's perfect for those items "forgot" at the grocery store. I just love supporting local and the prices are very fair. The staff today super helpful and appreciative that I stopped in. They also have bins full of beans and lentils. It's definitely a stop to make do that you can complete dinner at home without having to run to the large grocery store. We're so grateful to live in a neighborhood with a place like the Veggie Bin. We do 99% of our weekly grocery shopping there and it's perfect for picking up wine and cheese for happy hour and supporting SC farms for produce and meat. I wish every Charleston neighborhood had a Veggie Bin! read more

Convenient stop for fresh, local produce and other grocery items. Fresh bread and baked goods are typically available along with greens, squash, avocados...pretty much whatever you've run out of and you're like "oh crap Rite Aid doesn't sell that". They have bulk bins, frozen food (including King of Pups!), olive oil, etc...basically items to expect in a hipster bodega (a good thing in my book). The staff is always friendly and helpful and parking is usually available in their lot. read more

I love this place. I have pretty much stopped buying my vegetables and fruit from the bi lo and only buy from the veggie bin. The prices are cheap and the vegetables are fresh. Also- the people who work here are super friendly as well. For example, today I went and got an onion, a jalapeno, a red pepper and a green pepper for $2.69. I mean come on! You cant beat that. At any other grocery store the onion alone would be around $2.00 They also have a small selection of pastas and pasta and pasta sauces that look amazing. I haven't tried those yet but I'm sure I will in the near future. This has been a great addition the the neighborhood and I highly recommend checking this place out and picking up some fruits and veggies while you're here! read more

The Veggie Bin is a must for Charleston. With all of the fried food selections it was nice to see a healthy store. They had a small selection of snacks, meats and cheeses along with the vegetables and fruits. The selection was better than any corner store if you wanted to pick up a couple of things. The vegetables and fruits were market value and not overpriced. The people that work here were friendly and helped me pick out the few items I needed. read more

We were excited to check out what looked like a fun local shop, but didn't even manage to get in the door before being treated rudely by staff. Parking there is reserved for customers of the veggie bin only, but there is another business right next door sharing the same lot. Anyways, we parked, walked a few feet towards the other business just to see what it was, and were about to go in the veggie bin when a woman came out and informed us with a pretty nasty tone that we couldn't park there/parking was reserved for their customers only. We'd been there literally less than thirty seconds, and left after the way we were spoken to without bothering to go in. Try treating potential customers with respect (or just basic decency), and maybe they'll stick around. read more

We have needed a decent grocery in this area for a long time. Friendly and helpful staff, fresh, healthy, and convenient. They have a selection of local and organic goods that changes with the season and prices are reasonable. I love that they stock more than just veggies. .. milk, sour cream, bread... little conveniences that are nice to have close to home. I'm super happy to have them in the neighborhood. read more
