When i went in, there was no one else in the store and there were 4 employees working. They went all quiet and starred at me till i said "i'm ready to order". Most restaurants i go to i'm greeted with a "hello, may i take your order". This made me feel unwelcome and as if i was interrupting they're "down time". I could barely hear a word the cashier was saying, he didn't make any eye contact, and appeared overall like he didn't care to be at work. I asked for bbq sauce on my ribs and was instead given sweet sauce. I only ate half the rack as i didn't enjoy the flavor. My friend ordered the pull pork. Only about a quarter of the pulled pork had bbq sauce on it, leaving the rest very dry and unappetizing. We had to apply much more bbq sauce on our leftovers when we arrived home. Was not impressed and I would recommend sticking to home barbecue. read more

I think people who enjoy this place have never had real BBQ. I agree with the other posters that the woman who owns the place is very cold and sort of rude. I mean that's fine if customer service isn't your cup of tea but put someone else up front greeting people and taking orders then. You're the owner, you should know better! I've been there a couple of times. The first time was really bad but the place was still new so I wanted to give it another chance. I'll say this.. the pulled pork was fantastic both times. Moist and delicious and the sauces are yummy. That's pretty much all they have going for them though. The ribs were sooooo dry and tough. My 2 year old loves ribs and eats them all the time but she couldn't even chew these ones. I thought she might choke. And this was the same experience both times I went. The chicken is also dry. The tacos are extremely bland. The fries are meh. The mac and cheese and coleslaw .....just don't even bother. I feel bad giving this place a bad review because it's a start up restaurant and small business and I'm sure they are working hard. I just think they have a lot to work on and I really think the owner needs to improve on her customer service. Long Review...This could be the restaurant to beat! I've been to Pig Out BBQ in Pickering 5 times now and I can say I've NEVER been to a restaurant where the food quality was consistent, amazing, the staff was overly friendly (in a good way) and the chefs were amazing and looked like they enjoyed what they do. I will break down what I've had from first visit to the 4th (my current which I just finished 5 minutes ago) Beef Brisket (visit 1,2): BBQ food is my favorite so to hear there's a restaurant a 5 minute highway drive away! I had to go. First thing I wanted? Brisket. If a restaurant can't get brisket right, the way it's supposed to be made then its not a genuine BBQ restaurant. I walk in to see this guy with a massive grin on his face as he greets me, engages me in conversation strictly about BBQ food and the restaurant then takes my order. Its an open concept kitchen so you can view everything. He puts a generous amount of this BEAUTIFULLY cooked brisket in front of me and piles it high on what seems to be a slight bigger version of a hamburger bun and douses it in sauce. He packs a coleslaw and a random pickle wedge and i'm off. Driving back home I swear I'm speeding because the smell of the food was so good I needed to eat. Well let me tell you! Best brisket I've ever ate. It was tender, saucy, had that amazing smoke flavor and just..no words. This item on the menu is a winner. Pulled Pork (visit 3): Out in Canada BBQ is not OUR thing compared to the states but that doesn't mean that we don't love BBQ as much as they do. In the summer we all look forward to Rib Fest which showcases all the amazing BBQ restaurants that feature our favs like Beef Ribs, Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork and BBQ Chicken. Any BBQ lover will tell you not to skip the Pulled Pork so I figured it's on the menu so let's try it. This sandwich is ridiculously good. I will say that at Pig Out BBQ the sauce they put on their sandwiches isn't thick so the pork isn't heavily saucy. But, what they do have right is the seasoning which saves the sauce. On top of the sandwich they give you the option to add carmalized onion and that is the icing of this meal. Smokey flavour, tender pulled pork, good tasting but watery sauce and this menu item is a hit. Once again though, the bun doesn't hold up well to the sauce. Had they thickened up the sauce the cheap hamburger bun wouldn't go soggy as fast. Also comes with a coleslaw and a pickle wedge. Ribs (visit 4): Ahh the staple to ANY BBQ restaurant. These ribs..wow! Thick cuts of ribs, kept in that smoker till the meat falls off the bone, sauced to perfection, and have the perfect char on them (just around the edges). I cannot compliment these ribs any more. The minimum is 4 so just trying it out I settled for 4. These ribs are so thick that I was stuffed. 10/10. Comes with slaw and a pickle as do the rest. 1 Lb of wings (visit 5 & also today's visit): You walk into any restaurant and you get deep fried wings of various sizes topped in your typical sauces..honey garlic, mild blah blah blah zzzz... You get Pig Out wings and your getting smoked wings, large wings, wings that are sauced evenly and deliciously in flavors like Memphis Sweet Heat and some fancy named spicy ones that I didn't order. This meal comes with large cut fries in the wedge shape, slaw and a pickle. It must have been 10 wings in their pound or maybe I'm so stuffed from them because their huge so i'm exaggerating. I did get Memphis Sweet and it is sweet but it does gradually get spicy so for those with kids who love wings but are afraid of the heat, I'd say order dry wings with the sauce on the side. Another meal with little to no flaws. Another menu winner. ....So basically what I'm getting at is that this restaurant I have no doubts will go so far. They understand what it means to BBQ food. They don't just backyard grill your food. These guys have a decent sized smoker and grill to keep bringing these amazing menu items to us. It's a gem. Pro's: I think I covered it. Almost everything. Take out and dine in is the exact same. There's no lost food quality just because they box it. Decor is very elegant for a bbq place. Cons: The hamburger bun which goes soggy, the sauce which is delicious but not thick, the slaw is a hit or miss(sometimes it's thick and sometimes its watery but meh its free) and the random pickle. Maybe it's me but I don't get it. They would be better off saving the food cost and only hand a giant wedge of pickle to those who ask. I sure won't ruin my brisket sandwich with a massive pickle. Not bad. The value is pretty good and a nice change from the other fast food restaurants in the area. Menu is simple and well priced. Not a fan of pork so I can't comment on that. The smoked meat is not the best and I'm not a fan of the sauce, the Mac and Cheese sucks. The chicken Tacos are great, love the thick french fries and Onion rings. The Jr. Pig out platter is great way to sample everything. Staff is friendly, place is clean. I go pretty often. Me and I family ended up in Pickering after a long drive and came across Pig Out BBQ. We had the sample platter that consisted of Ribs, Chicken, Brisket and a coupe of sides. We got the mac-n-cheese and fries. My kids loved the Mac-n-Cheese so much we ordered another side of it. Everything was really good. Brisket was tasty with a good smoke flavour. The chicken wings were the big plump kind and were my favourite. The spicy side sauces on the table were a nice touch to spice up the meat for us and keep is milder for the kids. The only thing I would say is I had to let the person behind the counter know that the ribs were cold when we got them. He immediately took them back and heated them up on the grill. They came back hot and sauced, So great customer service. I will definitely be back as my kids are still asking about the Mac-n-cheese. read more

Went to check out Pig Out yesterday night with the GF (about 8:15 PM), and while it had some redeeming qualities, it was overall very bland, uninspired BBQ, and pretty poor service. I will be going back in a month or so to try it again and see if it was just a matter of them working out the kinks. Considering that this place has delivery and is open till 3AM on the weekend, I would really like them to work out. Our order: GF: Two BBQ soft tacos (one chicken, one brisket), fries, mac n' cheese. Me: 4 Rib dinner, baked beans, coleslaw, pickles The breakdown: Service: Our orders were taken by a woman who appeared to be either the owner or the owner's wife, and she was not friendly, in fact I felt a little awkward while telling her what I wanted. We didn't wait long for our meals, (which is pretty normal for BBQ as most of it is pre-cooked, essentially) but the tacos+sides came out about 5-8 minutes earlier than my ribs (maybe they thought they were apps?). When my ribs did come out, I watched the staff scramble to figure out who's they were, and bring them to two patrons incorrectly before we waved them down ourselves. The pickles were served sliced, still plastic-wrapped and in a pool of BBQ sauce which was incredibly unappetizing and thoughtless. Was told to leave my dishes at the table; the table behind us had not been cleared for 20 minutes. On our way out, the women who took our order, who was closest to the door, made no effort to ask us how our meal was, or to even say goodbye. I realize this is a fast-food joint, but friendliness and courtesy go a long way, and it's bad business to not obtain feedback. The Food: Soft Tacos: the tacos were served a la 'bell" (lettuce, tomato, cheese) with BBQ sauce on the the meat, pretty uninspired and boring, but the brisket itself was very tasty. The chicken was bland, and the tacos were cool and slightly tough. Fries: frozen flat-wedge fries, poorly fried (some crispy, some soft; inconsistent colour), tossed with seasoning salt. Very meh. Mac n' Cheese: pretty bland, noodles were too soft (overcooked) and the ramekin it was served in was HALFWAY FULL of butter and/or cheese grease. It was pretty disgusting, we had a couple of bites and left it. Ribs: inconsistent; sometimes tasty, but mostly bland. For every bite of fatty, charred goodness, there were two bites of over-sauced, tough-to-chew boredom. I was disappointed but not overly so. Baked Beans: bland, but in a weird tangy way that was off-putting. I guess they put brisket in their beans (great idea) because my very first bite was ENTIRELY fat, a whole cube of it (poor execution). We left it after one bite each. Coleslaw: delicious. Fresh, crisp n' crunchy, a nice balance between vinegary and creamy, and not overly dressed. Only a small plastic container; by the end of the meal I wish I had more to fill up on. Pickles: did not eat based on service. Looked store-bought. Atmosphere: Nice, clean place. Walking in, employees were busy cleaning surfaces and cooking. Throughout our meal the woman who took our orders (who I assume is the owner) seemed to stand idly by, with a scowl, staring angrily at her staff. I went to Pig Out BBQ in Pickering last week to get some take out for dinner. I waited in line far too long while the cashier finished a conversation with her friend. I ordered a little bit of everything, pulled pork, ribs, brisket and chicken wings. Fries, mac & cheese, coleslaw and their sauces. The ribs are dry and flavorless. There is no "bbq" flavour to these at all. We threw them out. The Brisket is good, but only if you get the fatty part at the end. If you get the sliced part it is so dry its like chewing dry wheat. The chicken wings were so over fried that we could not even bite through the skin! They were burnt and not good. The pulled pork was ok. It was moist with sauce and had an ok flavour but I dont think I would eat it without sauce. The sauces taste like commercial sauces with sugar added in one and spice added in the other. Nothing special or unique about it. The fries were decent. Needed more salt. The worst part other then the meat was the Mac & cheese. It was soggy wet noodles quickly heated with shredded cheese. It a was lumpy, grainy, mess. It was sad to say that we threw out over 40 dollars worth of food because most of it was just not good. And NOT BBQ quality. The Coleslaw...STAY AWAY it pre packaged with commercial watered down dressing. Sorry Pig Out BBQ... I think you need more practice in the BBQ pit. read more

I drive up kingston road on a daily basis as I live in Ajax. The wonderfull Pig Out sign caught my eye as soon as it went up!! I made a uturn the day I saw it..and went straight into the resturaunt to check it out. I am the self proclaimed BBQ and PORK king of the northern hemeshpere!! I had to try this out cause having a place like this so close to home would be gods gift to man kind. Turns out they werent open yet, but I did meet the owner. Had a nice little convo with him and took a menu. He assured me the place would be open the following Thursday or something. The opening night.. Low and behold straight from work I went there! Waiting for this opening night like a kid waiting for xmas day! Got there around 6:30.. had a couple people in the place. Didnt pay much attention to any one, I already planned from the week before what I wanted with the menu in hand, so wasted no time ordering!. Cashier seemed to be pre occupied and I found her to be ... not quite rude, but more like uninterested in taking my order :S. By the time I got there, apparently they ran out of ribs and brisket. CRAP! Thats what I wanted !! So I settled for a pulled pork sandwich... NO extras. Didnt bother with the Coleslaw or Macaroni, because my wife ordered the BBQ chicken with all those things. We sat there for litteraly 20-30 min waiting on our oder. During that time sitting there..at least 4 irrate customers either started yelling about their food... one lady who was waiting there, just got up, swore out loud and left! and I think she already paid too!!. Then another couple came in from outside, with theyre bag of food, (looked like they bought takeout and took it home a little bit before) plopped it on the counter..looked like the containers were still full..and demanded they get their money back and didnt want the food. WOW I thought.. man the place cant be THIS bad. Well after our half hour of getting gas pain due to the wait for our food, we got it. The chicken didnt look like BBQ. First thing it reminded me of, was a peice of that frozen neanderthal man that national geographic dug up in the alps a couple years ago. Looked just brown and DRY! my wife took one bite and was like ..wtf. Tastes like carboard. Sure enough..i took a bite,.. she was wrong! I think cardboard would have tasted better and been more moist than this chicken was. She left the chicken, and said,..ah well, its just their first day.. Ill just eat the Coleslaw and Mac n cheese. How do you mess up coleslaw and mac n cheese. Doesnt mac n cheese come from a box? Ive never tasted anything so disgusting in my life. Dont start me up on the close slaw. Im no big coleslaw fan, but i llike the KFC one (which you would think would be inferior) or even the premade 2 dollar ones you get a no frills... even the one you get at Costco! However, this coleslaw litterally tasted like cabage and water. After all that, I was hesitant to try my pulled pork sandwich, but I did. Didnt taste horrible like the rest of the stuff, but it certainly wasnt anything to talk about. I could make a better pulled pork sandwich in my microwave. I usualy dont like to give resturaunts bad reviews, cause I know its a tough bussiness and not every day is a good day. BUT.. Pig Out, should change theire name to F#$K OUT!. cause thats what you are going to want to do!. I couldnt beleive I spent close to 30$ for that! and we couldnt even eat our food!. My wife and I left, and went to the Mary Browns in the same plaza. Pig out was a total disapointment. Felt like a kid at christmas waiting for this place to open, but ultimately felt like when I opened my present, I got SOCKS! and was forced to eat them. Pretty good BBQ for being in this area. Unfortunately, I grew up in the Deep South of the USA and have very high expectations for BBQ. Really good BBQ is hard to find anywhere now, though. The place is rustic, the staff friendly and helpful. The food is good but I couldn't say great. The portions are quite large and when I get homesick, this is probably the closest thing that I can get to actual Southern food up here, even with its shortcomings. read more

The meat was like rubber. My hubby couldn't finish his beef sandwich or his potato salad. I had a house salad and also beef sandwich with different sauce. The potato salad was not cold at all. I think they store it on the counter because hubby was sick all night. The best part of this meal was the house salad, but don't expect any vegetables in it. Lettuce, some shredded carrot and cabbage, and a yellow tomato. The service was not better than the food. It was not busy at all but got bad service. The food is really good. I was there last weekend. However, two people in my party had the chicken and found it to be really dry. I'm sure if they brought it to the attention of the staff the problem would have been rectified. My only negative is that the restaurant is a bit unclean. It is an open kitchen and the glass on the preparation area looked like someone took a dirty rag and wiped it. Also, the bathroom was cold and unkept. The stickers were still on the toilet bowl. Looked like someone was smoking in there as there was cigarette ash on the sink. I think the owner should have the teenage workers clean when the restaurant is quiet instead of standing by the cash register looking at their phones and having private conversations. read more

Went into Pig Out BBQ last night for dinner, when me and my husband walked in there was a delicious smoky meat smell in the air. We decided to order a bit of everything so we could try it out. We ordered ribs, wings, brisket, sausage and pork. Our sides were coleslaw, mac n cheese, potato salad and onion rings. The ribs were delicious, probably the best ribs I have ever eaten. I'm not a big fan of wings but my husband ate them and said they were good. The brisket was extremely delicious, meat was soft almost melted in your mouth. The sausage was really good, actually my favourite but they should post that it is quite spicy so people who don't like spice don't order it. The pulled pork was moist and juicy but nothing unique. The coleslaw was delicious, homemade as the owner told me after when she came over to the table to see how everything was, as well as the potato salad which is also a homemade recipe. The mac n cheese was ok, apparently they are still trying to nail down the right recipe for it, the onion rings were previously frozen but surprisingly really good even though not homemade. The girl at cash was really friendly and made an effort to ask how everything was and say goodbye, even though it was really busy. Definately will recommend this place to friends and will be going back. read more

There is BBQ and there is southern bbq whats the difference you say well southern bbq has a slow cooked charred meat flavor to it that is smooth and tender and melts in your mouth and the bbq sauce is a signature of each smokehouse I have ate in every southern bbq state in the USA and Pig Out overall rates in my top three in Ontario when it comes to there bbq meat items. Sides and desserts are a different story. There platter dinner portions are huge and there burgers are amazing I only wish they toasted the bun so it could stand up to the bbq sauce without going soggy it must be ate pronto or you are left with a sloppy wet bun. They are very accommodating with substitutions i asked instead of wings on my platter if i could have brisket it was no problem there platters are overflowing with meat there burgers have a distinctive ground steak texture and taste and with a topping of brisket heaven. Their pulled pork is tender and just plain good there brisket was excellent and though I didn't have the wings everyone who was there with me said they were the best wings they ever had, the ribs are great and they are generous with the portion size. Their coleslaw has a nice sweet, sour balance with just the right amount of creamy. There bbq sauce is sweet, savory and smokey you can tell many hours of tasting and experimenting went into the making of this sauce be the champion it is. I hope one day soon the start bottling it and making it available to buy. I suggest ordering some on the side because sometimes there is the right amount of your meat and sometimes it seems to get forgotten completely. They serve every meal with a dill pickle that is really good like grandma made them in her farm house kitchen good. The roasted chicken dinners are moist and flavorful. Monday night is pulled pork sandwich special night i think they are around the three to four dollar price range and you won't be disappointed they are full of meat and flavor. Now on to there sides the baked beans left me wanting i was hoping they would be more like a old- fashioned Canadian baked been with a sweet molasses flavor and a smokey touch to them but they are very smokey almost bitter they are missing the sweet and authentic down home flavour that baked beans should have they are in fact better cold then hot. The mac and cheese wasn't great it was overcooked and didn't have any zing like a good mac and cheese should have. I was so hoping it would have a bit of smoked cheese in it to compliment their excellent bbq and a rich cheddar flavour it missed out on both marks. They make a standard french fry that is quite good they also make a sweet potato fry that is ok as long as you eat them as soon as they hit the table the thinness of the cut makes them go cold and dry out quickly. They have corn bread which was bland, dry and lack luster southern bbq's sides are just as important as the bbq itself and that is where pig out needs some work. They also make a banana bread it is one of those kind of recipes you will either love it or hate it there is no in between this dessert it is was like a combination of bread pudding and banana bread there is big chunks of bread and banana it is served cut into cubes with a brown Betty type sauce over top the sauce was the best part of the dessert. The banana bread misses the sweet flavour and the scent of inviting spices like cinnamon and nutmeg and in there attempt to revamp the classic loved banana bread something gets lost in translation. The other disappointment is the lack of sweet tea if you know and love bbq, sweet tea is the nectar needed to wash down bbq. Finally the decor of the restaurant is stone mixed with modern fixtures and the place is clean bottom line is when you taste Pig Outs bbq all your mind will be on is the great food Pig Out has to offer. One more warning things are crazy busy in there Friday, Saturday evenings that i saw i am sure there is other days things must be nuts as well if you are ordering take out i suggest calling ahead if you are eating in anyday i suggest calling for a table though i am not sure if they reserve dinning area is limited as are tables so your wait time could be long if you don't think ahead for dine in and take out. I do know they also offer delivery. read more
