    6 rib dinner
    Kathy V.

Classic southern bbq is what you'll find at pig out bbq. They've been serving it up since 2012. I shared the 6 rib dinner with a friend which came with a side (aka trimming), coleslaw, pickles and choice of dipping sauce. My side of choice was fries, can't go wrong with fries - they were crispy, a bit oily, made for good bbq eating. Coleslaw and pickles were standard - good but nothing stand out. Can't recall the dipping sauce but I appreciated that there was dipping sauce. The ribs are smoky but I can understand why they came with sauce because they aren't exactly lathered in any. Unlike saucier ribs I've had, these ribs feel a little drier so the sauce helps in that aspect. The meat was delicious and tender but I don't think this is my type of ribs - I guess I'm more of a saucy ribs girl. I would still recommend giving it a try if you'd prefer a smoky, drier rub!

Fantastic BBQ! Fun little atmosphere with a great menu and really really good ribs! Corn bread was just a bit on the dry side but ok. Cole slaw was excellent! Loved this little place near the university!

    Jr. Pig Out Platter (46.95)

Ordered the Jr. Pig Out Platter (46.95) which included half rack of ribs, 1 lb wings, 8 oz beef brisket and we chose mac n cheese and sweet potato fries as the 2 'trimmings', the platter also comes with coleslaw. First off, it's a ton of food. Everything is super filling so it's definitely enough for 2-3 people depending on appetite. I really liked the brisket and ribs both were packed with flavor and tender. The wings were ok, I would've liked it to be tossed with more sauce. Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries were very very good. I'm a sucker for good BBQ and this place definitely satisfied my cravings. Highly recommend!

I decided to try their bbq. I was hesitant being I am used to southern United States smoked bbq and Toronto is as far north as you can get from Texas. The meat was a bit dry. I can tell they don't leave their meat wrapped after being cooked. The brisket was cut with the grain which gives it more pull with your teeth vs. being cut against the grain and easy to pull apart. The ribs were average. Across-the-board their meat could use more flavor but it was a filling lunch. The mac and cheese was decent. It's not velveeta cheese sauce! Last but not least the staff are very friendly.

Now I have a place to go for a delicious beef brisket sandwich! The beef brisket is very tender, can be a bit fatty, but just delicious. I also tried the wings and ribs. My recommendation would be the wings and beef brisket, the ribs isn't the fall off the bone type which I prefer. The wings however is juicy, and the flavor we got (it's garlic something) was really good. Don't let the exterior of the building fools you, the restaurant is renovated and spacious enough to fit quite a number of tables.

With finals coming up, why not relax by pigging out on some delicious food? Pig Out BBQ is a bbq smokehouse that is located in the heart of UofT, and has been opened since 2014 by owners Chris & John! They serve delicious platters that will definitely get you to pig out and feeling satisfied Honestly, a very nice place to visit for students! If you're looking to feast with friends, I recommend their Pig Out Platter which contains: Full Rack of Ribs, 2 Smoked Sausages, Pulled Pork, 1lb of Wings, Beef Brisket, Coleslaw and Pickles. Choice of 3 Large Trimmings (Corn Bread, Fries, Baked Beans, Mac n Cheese, Potato Salad, Salads, Nacho Fries, Poutine, and Pulled Pork Poutine) for $74.95 that can serve up to 4-5 people. Too much? Fear not, they also have their famous Piglet Platter that is just as delicious and filling. The piglet platter contains: 2 ribs, 4 wings and pork, choice of 1 trimming for $19.95. They offer 4 different sizes of platters depending on your needs :) I recommend checking this place out if you're in the area!!

Pig Out is a fast casual restaurant that serves affordable southern style barbecue. This might be the best deal for barbecue in the Toronto core. Orders are placed at the front cash and the cashier delivers the food to your table if eating inside. I split the Jr. Pig out Platter with a friend. It consisted of Wings, Pork Ribs, Brisket (upgraded for a few bucks), Slaw and choice of two sides we went for Baked Beans and Mac and Cheese. The food came out rather fast as we only had a few sips of beers (unfortunately only basic bottled beers i.e. Coors, Molson etc.). Ribs were good but, not great. They were meaty and tender. I'd prefer the meat to be more moist. The brisket could have been served warmer. It was still tender with a decent amount of fat. It was good brisket but, could be more moist. The wings on the other hand were really good, meaty, non-breaded and the buffalo sauce was on point with a lil kick. The sides were also the highlights both the Beans and Mac and cheese were full of flavor. The Beans has a nice boozy punch! It was a very generous portion of food. I felt I had to waddle out of the restaurant clutching my leftovers in my hands. All in all, I recommend Pig out. There is definitely better barbecue in Toronto but for $42 the Jr. Platter is definitely the best bang for your buck/the best choice. You definitely get your money's worth (it fed 2 guys and there was leftovers) and allows you to sample all the classic barbecue meats.

This small little bake shop had a menu hanging up, but I completely ignored it thanks to the baked goods right behind the counter that I was too busy staring at. I knew right away that I was going to order a Chocolate Croissant because, well, I always order a Chocolate Croissant if one is available. After making my first choice, this strange little baked good caught my eye, and it turned out to be something called a Cruffin.......a Cruffin you say? What is a cruffin? WELL, let me tell you. The cruffin is basically like a muffin, but like, with cheese and pepperoni on it so obviously I hate to order that sexy little bad boy right away. This thing wasn't big, but it was very dense and basically tasted like pizza crust which was absolutely delicious. After eating the cruffin, the Chocolate Croissant seemed way less cool but I ate it anyway. It tasted good and the chocolate was actually spread across the whole thing so they get an even bigger thumbs up for doing it right. Overall, COBS Bread was the spot! I had no idea this was a chain, but who cares, this place was great. I really liked the Cruffin I got and the croissant was really good as well. I will absolutely be revisiting COBS Bread when I come back to Canada and devouring a few more cruffins while I'm at it!

The interior is dry while the bottom and top is moist. It's height and width is too high and wide so any attempts to bite (to get that moist sweetness to mask the middle dryness) just guarantees a joker's smile of smeared sugar... so, overall a decent bun, but nothing you'd dream daily about. Want to also add the store is very well organized with their display of goods and the service is professional and efficient.

I literally have nothing to say bad about this place, because that is how much I love their food. The menu is huge with so many varieties of subs/sandwiches to choose from, truly all of them are the best. The staff is so kind and are very welcoming, they allow you to modify the sandwich in case there is anything you don't want on it. There is also a lot of seating for you to come in and eat as well, incase you did not want to take out. Now onto the sandwiches! I kid you not, the bread here is the most softest, fresh bread which also does not get soggy with all the toppings/sauces that get put on it. And then all the toppings that get added are super fresh. These sandwiches truly are addicting but also worth the money! I agree that the price for a sandwich plus side salad is quite pricey ($13 including tax) but I like the fact that everything tastes fresh and light, and you have alot of options to customize your sandwich in a healthy way. I ordered the rosemary focaccia with chicken breast, arugula, avocado and chipotle spread plus their usual sprinkle of salt, pepper and squeeze of lime. It's like a gourmet sandwich - the bread was thick, soft with hints of rosemary and yummy. The salad was mostly arugula with carrots- this was very lightly seasoned but at least I won't be hit with itis going back to work! Definitely would come again, although not regularly since it's kinda pricey.

I'm going to continue with my overtime take out review series with Sandwich Box. You would think making a sandwich is probably not the most complicated task out there, but this place seems to get it all wrong. My order consisted of an egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread with a side salad. When I received it, I only got the sandwich and the restaurant failed to tell me the salad was no longer included in the combo (yet the price remained the same). That's great that the online menu was not updated to include items no longer available, a simple update would address all these problems knowmsayin? Now on to the actual sandwich, the bread was thick. I mean so thick it looked like there was about a half an inch of eggs inside of two encyclopedias worth of bread. The eggs themselves, totally flavorless and bland. Kinda hard to mess up an egg salad sandwich right? Even Tim Horton's can get that right! To make things short and sweet, I'll be looking over this option the next time I'm working late or considering a sandwich in the downtown area.
