    Chicken fried steak special
    Alex F.

True down home cooking and venue. I had the chicken fried steak special, which came with delicious whipped potatoes and gravy. I got collards for my side. They made a perfect 50/50 sweet tea/unsweetened tea mix. The steak was good but the ambience was even better. Dress code was jeans and ball caps worn indoors!

Pulled chicken sandwich, collards, and baked beans

A bit of a mixed review for the meal. Positives: neat place, friendly staff, I liked the chicken sandwich and baked beans. Slight misses: large hush puppies that were a bit dry, collards could use a little more seasoning. I'd be curious to try some of the other items.

    Mac&Yuck

First time here, stopped in for lunch while we were in the area. The restaurant was rustic and nicely decorated. Clean and quaint atmosphere. Serving staff was very friendly and efficient. I got the pork BBQ sandwich platter which was served with 2 sides. I chosee mac-n-cheese and coleslaw. The Sandwich was piled high with moist, tender pulled pork. It was yummy! The coleslaw was creamy & delish. The Mac-n-cheese, umm... it was probably the worst I've ever had! Not much taste, hardly any cheese involved, and sitting in a pool of grease. yuck. So, go for the BBQ. Skip the mac&cheese.

    side of fries heheheh

Their menu is great, such a nice assortment of soooo many things I absolutely LOVE, but our server told me how amazing the taco assortment and the smash burger was that we got one of each, with me getting the smash burger. Our food came out rather quickly and was amazing, fresh, tasty, and PERFECTLY PREPARED!!! My smash burger was excellent! Exactly what a smash burger should be. I asked for jalapeños to be added to it and they added fresh sliced jalapeños which nicely enhanced the flavor. I typically don't eat the fries that come as a side dish, but these were so darn amazing that I ate them all! They were perfectly double-fried for crispness, yet were fresh, hot, perfectly salted, and sooo tasty! Our experience, the food, the quality, and the service was very nice. I will definitely return!

For an appetizer, we ordered the salsa, spinach artichoke dip and hips. My son ended up going with his standby favorite, a cheeseburger, while I got the pulled pork sandwich and my partner and daughter shared the spaghetti topped with shrimp. Basically, all our favorite foods! For dessert, we recommend the paletas (delicious ice pops). Our kids had so much fun picking out their favorites. Our daughter got the cookies and cream that was packed with full-sized oreos inside, while my son got the classic cherry flavor. The restaurant is decorated for the holidays and we loved getting our photo in front of their Christmas tree. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. This is a definite must-stop spot in Madison.

Service: kind staff but slow service. Seating was full, so likely some of the wait was due to that. Ambiance: loud to the point it was hard to hear the people sitting at our own table. Table across from us was full of children with no adult supervision, and the younger kids were rambunctious, and the older kids wound up screaming at them. Same kids were yelling outside the bathrooms and wandering in and out of the back repeatedly. Just too loud for me and my group.

The wines are excellent and there are several tasting options you can choose- I believe there was a red flight, a white flight, and a "signature" option that had both. You also have the option to build your own flight, which I always love. The 2024 rosé is a standout, we picked up several bottles to bring home. We could not believe how good the food was- it was worth a trip in its own right! It's on the pricier side but it is clear why, the plates wouldn't be out of place at a fine dining restaurant. We also had the kindest server, Chelsie, who made our experience so special and memorable! She stopped by to chat several times, gave us great recommendations, and she could not have been nicer to me and my friends. We were lucky enough to attend our dear friends' wedding here and it was a spectacular wedding venue. The space is just beautiful and the catering was incredible- some of the best wedding food we've had by far. We liked it so much we came back to visit the tasting room the next day :) This is a perfect stop on the way to Charlottesville from the DMV and a gorgeous place to spend an afternoon.

Serving American classics with high quality and great hospitality…read more Sandwiched between two floors of antique malls, Jack's was the perfect stop in the day to get some no-frills nourishment. Their breakfast is incredibly generous and made with ingredients that were fresh, clean, and meticulous in detail. The design of their menu is just so promising with unique twists that are not unheard of, but just an elevated touch when it comes to American diner food as a whole. Things like truffle infused hollandaise, fried green tomato BLT, pairing balsamic with goat cheese, a blackened pork, even mushrooms on the breakfast menu all hint that people developing their menu are confident in their skills in offering something more when it comes to breakfast plates and sandwiches. Their homemade aiolis (highly recommend their pesto aioli) and hot sauce tie any dish together-- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things made to this quality are not to be unremarked. Came in with friends so we can try everything on their menu, and we were pleasantly surprised on all fronts. Presentation, ingredients, preparation all elements that made our meals great and were evident across all dishes ranging from protein to carb. Details like toasted bread with already spread with butter, perfectly poached eggs, and brioche as the bun of choice were things we peeped. We would have left satisfied if these details weren't accounted for, but we were so impressed this became a revisit during our short vacation. Their space is greatly spacious, with an open drinks station so its just not pretentious. There is even a section in the front to pick up goods made by local artisans. Apparently, currently the only day of the week they offer Brunch is on Sundays. I showed up about 11:00 am. The place was full of diners - so instead of waiting for a table, I sat at the bar. It's not a large bar - I'd say it seats approximately 9-10 people. I ordered the Boudin balls - which come with a tasty dipping sauce called "Swamp Mustard." I also ordered the Cajun Omelette - which is stuffed with "smushed Boudin balls." Comes with a side of rather unexciting breakfast potatoes. The Boudin balls were tasty - and had a nice crispy texture. The Swamp Mustard is really good with the balls. The Cajun Omelette was rather ho-hum - I was expecting and hoping for something with more complexity and heat. The smushed Boudin balls were rather bland. The Omelette was cooked properly. Great Find In Luray…read more Went hiking with my family in Shenandoah National Park this weekend and overnighted in Luray. We happened across The Chop House by mistake and a lucky one it was! Everything about the meal was fantastic! Our server Pete was terrific. My brother-in-law hit the nail on the head when he said "He was the most unpretentious, informative and friendly server I've run across". Very polite and helpful, you could just tell it made Pete happy to be helpful. The menu is not large, but the dishes we ordered were all top notch. First the Focaccia Bread came and it was just right, a good sigh of things to come. Next the Crab Dip. We are from Annapolis, a crab crazy town on the Chesapeake, where every restaurant has their own "award winning" crab dip, so we are very well acquainted with some of the best, but this one knocked it out of the park. It would win the "Best of Annapolis 2026" if this restaurant was in Annapolis. Next came the Sirloin, at Pete's recommendation. Salted perfectly, and cooked correctly to medium rare, with a side of asparagus cooked to crisp perfection and seasoned with a garlic butter that was just fantastic. We rapped it up with a flight of deserts to share, at Pete's recommendation. Deconstructed Cheese Cake, German Chocolate Cake, Creme Brûlée, and three of their house made ice creams. Again, just Wow. And when the bill came, again a very pleasant surprise. Steak dinner for 4, with cocktails and wine and the bill came to $250. Back in Annapolis that meal would have easily been $400 or more at Lunes Steakhouse, Ruth Chris or the Chart House. My wife and I agreed this meal was better than any we've had at any of these high end resturants. I can't recommend this place highly enough. We'll be back, and nothing against the other servers, but we'll make sure it's on a night Pete is working. Great job Pete and to everyone in the kitchen, just a terrific meal.
