So far I have tried their coffee bar. It was delicious. Organic coffee, organic milk, organic juice, really good. Price is fair $3.25 for an organic Latte, other place could cost $5 and they don't even use organic ingredients. The place is clean, well organized. They carry many local, handcrafted, organic products like chocolates, pasta sauces, salsas, etc. I think the staff can be more friendly, but again I only go get a coffee, not a dining experience so doesn't matter. read more

There is an upstairs home goods section. Downstairs is a food store of sorts, plus a women's clothing store and a wine bistro. So it is a mini department store in Montecito. Brought here by a friend who lives in the area and we got the Quinoa salad for lunch. It was OK. Santa Barbara area is a food desert like San Luis Obispo and San Simeon areas. We came in on a Thursday early evening, and no one would wait on us..there were 5 people working but they just ignored us..no greeting nothing, then we asked if we could receive service and one lady in the front end said "just wait". She was very rude with a rude tone..and the complete customer experience is the worst based on my 25 years in Santa Barbara. I believe this is reverse racism. Considering we're Caucasian and Jewish. With 4-5 workers in the deli it would of been easy to complete service, but it's obvious the personnel dislikes their job and customers, I'm 72 years old and have never witnessed such disrespect and discrimination. We will never be back and are boycotting all friends snd relatives to never come back. We are considering filing a civil lawsuit suit for Gross discrimination, based on anti Semitic racism and well speak to the DA regarding filing a criminal complaint. read more

Overpriced!! Because they have such poor ingredients in their food! Processed meats and cheese in sandwiches made with cheap white toast bread. Wraps are horrid and smell like they are not fresh. The rice is mush and way too much of that cheese in there. I tried it twice because I thought it's always possible to get one bad meal. But yeah... second time was just as bad. They have an amazing spot there and this could be something really special. A few upgrades in quality of ingredients used and it could be great! The New Cashier at the market is terribly hostile. We have come to the market for years and the cashiers are not friendly but down right hostile is already unacceptable. Also don't you know that the croissants have gone down hill as well since they are stale. The shop is very cute and the bathrooms are very clean. Really loved the atmosphere of the place and their deli food is delicious. They really had a nice variety of things to buy, however, everything is a little pricey so beware. The staff behind the counter aren't super attentive so if you want something you need to make yourself noticed. This place has only gone down hill over the decades. The food is awful! I recently ordered a ham and turkey panini. Pierre Lafond is one of my boyfriend's local spots for coffee and sandwiches. His sister even worked there for a while. We went with a couple friends one day for a casual lunch, and it was more expensive than I expected, but food-wise pretty solid. The place is kind of like a small scale Gelson's or Whole Foods, where you can get food and drink as well as a limited selection of produce and things like picnic baskets and artisan chocolates. The deli area is in the middle, and you order at a counter and pay at a register. The staff is friendly all around. My boyfriend and one of our friends are pathologically picky eaters, and they ordered grilled cheese sandwiches off the kid's menu for under $4. No one on staff so much as commented. My hungrier friend and I split the Summerland and the Kobe burger. The Summerland came with roasted turkey, brie, whole grain mustard, and cranberry chutney on toasted brioche. The sandwich was a bit too sweet and the amount of brie should have been halved, but it was still decent. The Kobe burger was quite good, with roasted portobellos, balsamic marinated onions, white cheddar, and garlic aioli on a toasted bun. The meat was pretty good and juicy, formed into an irregularly shaped patty. Portobellos and balsamic onions are such a hack, but you can't argue with tasty results. The Summerland was $13 and the burger was $15, making Pierre Lafond pretty pricy for such a casual place. Still, the food was definitely good and I'd consider coming back. The place has a lovely outdoor patio with plentiful seating, and we enjoyed a relaxing meal in beautiful Santa Barbara weather that I would not mind repeating. read more

Any time I'm in the area I absolutely must stop at this market for a Farm Cake. It's like this muffin / cupcake that's rich in chocolate chips and cream cheese. Probably not the best description but they are amazing! The coffee bar and staff are also great. I love looking into the clothing shop that's connected to the market too. What a pretentious place full of snotty yuppies. The food is meh.,, I had vegan polenta and as I was cutting it, found 2 hairs in it (which is disgusting). The cookie I got tasted stale. As I was opening the door to go eat on the patio (my hands are full w/a plate of food) some rude woman covered in her uppity designer wear and diamonds tried to push past me and almost knocked the food out of my hand. Yes they are next door to one another and yes Pierre owns them both. But one is a gourmet deli...like order your food, pay at a register, and then carry your food to sit outside. There are two small eating areas inside as well. They have everything. Sandwiches, hot foods, salad bar, breakfast, pastries, coffee bar, fresh juice and smoothies, deserts, candy, beer, odd and unusual drinks, and a fantastic selection of wine. The food is reliably good. It is made in house. You can see them cooking it from scratch in there. I've eaten about everything here and I'm pleased. It does seem like they don't warm up the deli case items enough sometimes. The problem? The staff sucks. They just don't give a crap. They never smile. Speak about you in Spanish behind your back. I know, but they don't think that I speak Spanish. And the lady who manages the place is an absolute grouch....that's the nicest word that I could use for her. This is our Dean and Deluca. I stopped going there for no good reason, given it's a 5 minute drive from my boyfriend's condo where I live over half the year. But he's not as enamored of takeout as I am. I don't get it: he will eat a can of chili or a boring salad he makes with bacon bits and a jar dressing if not going out, but doesn't want to pick up amazing stuff to eat home at the deli. He'd even rather get hole-in-the-wall good Thai in a ridiculously tacky space (Your Place on Milpas) than get gourmet takeout (10 a person for a lot of it) to eat in his beautiful condo. I never have understood his aversion to this form of eating when not going out! So I've been going more of late and loving it so much: enchiladas, flatbreads, soups, sandwiches, veggie/side salads. PLF is wonderful and it's immaculate. Also most of the people who shop here regularly are Montecito locals and it is a cozy, friendly vibe. Also it's fun to gawk at the giant rocks and other jewelry about which you can only dream. Chicken noodle is probably the best in town. I like their egg salad too. Dave's Gourmet pasta sauce is 11.75 and like homemade. I've tried only the heirloom tomato (I was sick and avoiding spicy foods so didn't try the spicy heirloom tomato) but all of them looked great. read more

I really, really wanted to like this place. We visited while on vacation in Santa Barbara and I was in the mood for a light lunch somewhere with a more upscale, chichi feel. Of course that means Montecito:-) First off, it is very, very expensive for what you get. Sandwiches are $10-12. You'll pay $10-15 per person for a simple counter service light muffin & coffee breakfast. This place has great people-watching. Ask a native Californian to form a mental image of old Montecito and the people you'll see here are probably what you have in mind. There's the young, tan blond mom with her two blond kids in all-white tennis clothes; older couples in golf clothes having a lunch meeting with financial advisor; "ladies who lunch" out lunching together in groups of threes and fours. We stopped in at 2 pm on a weekday so it wasn't busy. I've heard that this place can get very busy in the mornings but it was definitely not crowded when we were there. We had sandwiches from the deli counter (made to order) that were quite good. Terrific bread. The surprise hit of our meal was my husband's black bean enchiladas (sitting in the deli case but they warmed them up for him.) Baked goods looked a little tired - maybe the type that don't weather time well and looked better several hours earlier? The salad bar was a joke. I'd lured my husband here because he loves salad bars, especially the kind like Whole Foods which have a bunch of prepared items like couscous, etc. This one was teeny and everything looked a little wilted. Worst of all, many of the items did not look fresh, like the pineapple and canned mandarin oranges (WHY? This is California and it's tangerine season.) They had stuff like dried apricot halves. Just weird and not appetizing. They serve Peet's coffees and teas. Coffee/tea counter was fast and friendly. Could have been a little tidier inside. Presuming they had a morning rush, after it ended they could do things like pick up empty sugar packets, sweep and wipe near the trash bins etc. Lovely outdoor patio seating with enough choices of shade, sun, or both to make everyone happy. Old dude at table next to us was making a deal to buy real estate in Scotland while we ate and that was just such classic Montecito that it made the trip to Pierre Lafond worthwhile for the people watching alone. read more
