For years, I've been waiting for a slice and a soda place to open downtown. I'm not talking gourmet pizza, either. 2 slices of cheese or Pepperoni and a Coke for $5. Quick, standard issue lunchtime fare. Unfortunately, in downtown Durham, rent is sky high and there isn't always a ton of foot traffic. Recognizing that they won't get by on low prices and high volume, most purveyors of fine food opt to charge more than you'd see in most cities so they can pay the bills with a lower volume of sales. Maybe I'm not the target demographic here. I'm used to two slices of high quality 'za and a drink for a five spot. I don't care if the cows that produced my mozz were milked while listening to Gustav Holst or treated to weekly massages. I just want a good, reliable slice at a fair price that's accessible late at night, when I'm downtown for lunch, or after the bars close. If that's your thing, keep walking. If you're interested in tasty, gourmet pizza at $4+ a slice and $9 (?!?) eggplant fries, come on in. read more

This is hands-down the best pizza I have ever had since moving here in 1999. Barb's Margherita pizza was so delicious, and the half pie is very filling. The appetizers are also phenomenal - make sure to try the Brussels sprouts. Everyone was friendly, and the booths and tables are big and comfortable. Excellent place!! read more

I ordered a margherita pizza for delivery. The workers were really nice and the pizza came fast, but it was the worst margherita pizza I've ever had. Only tried for take-out pizza as it is close by and can be ready fairly fast. To my surprise, the pizza was really yummy without being overly salty which is a common issue in restaurant food. I ordered the topping of Canadian bacon with pineapple. So Yummy! :-) The biggest pleasant surprise are the crispy (deep fried) eggplant fries and the Madrona salad. Both are deliciou!! salad tasted super fresh and so flavorful. I am putting this place on top of my pizza place from now on.. I had Pie Pusher for the 1st time last night. All the expectations people said to me was it was one of the good pies in Durham. Had it at Cameron Indoor Stadium and it was THE WORST PIZZA in HISTORY. You guys should be ashamed to serve that at Duke Basketball games. I had a pepperoni and it was hard and taste like CARDBOARD!!! Straight CARDBOARD PIZZA. I was so mad at myself that I even ate it and gave you guys a chance. Cameron Indoor should bring back Dominos Pizza because they blow you guys out of the water. Unfortunately our pesto pizza was not worth how expensive it was. It was rather dry (would prefer more pesto sauce) and then we had to pay for small sides of marinara sauce...but the pizza was already so expensive so that was a bummer. We stopped upstairs for a late dinner about 9pm, the dining room was about half full, the guy behind the counter was quite rude and visibly upset. The atmosphere was cool and our pizzas came out quickly from a very kind server. The poutine was absolutely amazing, however the pizza was really just blah. It took me longer than it should have to check out the new Pie Pushers restaurant. I've had their food truck multiple times and I am happy they opened a brick and mortar location. It's located right above the Pinhook and it is a cool looking spot. You order from the counter and the food will be brought to your table. There is also a bar area to chill at. Pie Pushers has good pizza, I don't rave about it but it has never disappointed me either. The wings I've tried once and I was less impressed by, I can't recommend them. The fried brussel sprouts appetizer is fantastic though. An important thing to note is that Pie Pushers is open til 2 on weekends, giving a great late-night option if you are looking for 1am bite of pizza. They also deliver which I was not aware of it! I'm new to town and on a mission to find good pizza. I give PP 2 states because I see some opportunities to give it 5 someday. All the good stuff (location, ambiance, beer selection) was squashed by two things- poor service and soggy pizza. The counter guy could care less about being there. When I asked if I could get a slice of cheese with jalapeños added, he said 'we don't do that kind of thing'. 'What thing?' I asked. 'Add items to slices' Well, I didn't realize that a slice of cheese was a work of art not to be ruined so I let it go. Not much else here qualified to be considered average customer service. I ordered a Queen Anne and a slice with Brussels. The toppings were great, but the middle crust of each was so soggy it fell off the slice. I'm ready to give this place another shot. As a New York transplant who appreciates a good quick slice and doesn't need anything fancy, Pie Pushers is great at satisfying my pizza cravings. Their regular cheese or pepperoni is solid but their more creative slices get interesting too. Got a pie Togo on a Thursday evening. It wasn't very busy yet as it was only 5pm, but they were very quick! I didn't even have a chance to finish a full beer before my pie was ready. As a transplanted New Yorker I am always in a quest to find good pizza. I wanted to like this place. The decor is real neat as you go up the stairs. I got a regular slice and a pepperoni slice. The cheese slice was unremarkable. Bland and bereft of any flavor. I know some Digiorno frozen pizzas that have a more pronounced flavor. The pepperoni slice didn't fare any better. Great crispy crust no frills and they make pizza so don't expect to cool off on this top floor establishment. The wedge was good could be amazing with some bacon crumbles but everyone is different and still excellent with the balsamic drizzle. Stopped at the new Pie Pushers brick and mortar location before DPAC for a quick bite. I have been a fan of the food truck for a long time and the menu is generally similar. You can order by the slice, half pie, or full pie. The menu is obviously expanded from the food truck, but some of my favorites weren't on the menu. I always liked that Pie Pushers would create some crazy combinations and the menu felt somewhat toned down. The do offer salads, wings and a few other sides as well and several beers as well. My biggest complaint was that it is not handicap friendly. I brought my Mom who has bad knees and there was no avoiding the massive flight of stairs to get up there. Overall, it's a great place for a quick bite that's not going to break the bank downtown. Also, there's the late night window option which I am sure will come in handy one of these days as downtown Durham needs more late night options. read more

Having recently moved to the area I was excited about giving Pie Pushers a try. I ordered Sicilian cheese pizza slice for $4.50 & a glass of red wine. Total $13.00 I'm Sicilian, lived in Buffalo & can make a mean pizza! The crust is way too thick with a minimal amount of a nice sauce. In my mind this is more of a open face pizza sub! The pizza was awesome! I am super picky about my my crust and this had just the right bite. It was popular but not packed on a Friday night, maybe because of its upstairs location. Parking is pretty easy in the deck behind it, but if you don't know the area it can be easy to miss this gem. My daughter loves the Pie Pushers truck, but I don't like eating pizza standing up. Their "Durham-style" hand-tossed thin crust and eclectic seasonal toppings focused on supporting local farmers and artisans. I visited the Main Street location just above Pinhook. Immediately you'll notice that the owners Mike and Becky Hacker have a love and passion for Durham, and they captured that essence perfectly at this location. I ordered a slice of pizza with asparagus, sweet corn, and goat cheese. Each ingredient complimented the other in such a surprisingly fun - and delicious - way. I also enjoyed the dry rub wings, which were pretty good...but I'd stick with the pizza next time. I couldn't get enough of the creative ingredients, slightly crunchy yet fluffy crust, and cheesy goodness on my big slice of heaven. Really, the slices of pie are ginormous making this a great bang for the buck. You can also order an entire pizza and a cold beer. I haven't tried (but hope to!) their Saturday brunch from 9-2. I was very excited to try this pizza (mainly because of the interesting combinations and ingredients offered). I was a bit disappointed with the options we had. I was under the impression that you could customize slices and you can only customize half pies. This proved for a very expensive outing for pizza. I will say that the brussel sprouts were delicious! Don't believe the hype! This place offered curbside to go which was great however the food was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza and two orders of dry rub wings. The pizza which was eaten in the car was LUKE WARM. The cheese was not even melted completely, with barely any sauce. If I wanted cheese bread I could have went to little cesars which would have tasted better at a more reasonable price. The Wings do not taste how they look! I came here for the wings based on reviews however I was let down. The wings had no flavor, and the quality of chicken was very fatty. The ranch saved the day , thank god for hidden valley. My partner ordered a side of curry sauce which was 1.00 extra for a small dipping sauce container. The curry sauce was not good at all. Overall the price point and the flavor/food quality do not align. I did not arrive right before closing so there was no reason I should have received Luke warm pizza and tasteless wings. I would never return to this place again even if the food was free. Tip to the chef, if you are going to re-warm pizza make sure it is fully heated before serving to paying customers! On 04.25.2019, I entered Pie Pushers with another person for dinner. From the start, we were spoken to rudely with eye-rolls at the register. After paying for a whole pizza, we ate with interruption and nasty behavior by staff who grabbed a plate out of my hand as my fork and plate had food on it. The other person I was with had to tell the staff that I was still eating. We didn't notice anyone else like this being treated in the restaurant and were clearly targeted because we were Black. As an lgbtq Black customer, I was appalled that after paying people continually kept clearing our table while we were eating and talking in addition to grabbing food from me as I was eating without me asking or saying it was okay. It ruined the entire meal and the restaurant staff honed in on us. It's not an atmosphere for Black people nor other non-white people. Do not shop at this restaurant.
